KOTH AustralasiadeL and CyberGamer are bringing you King of the Hill Australia every weekend. Two community-voted players from Australia or New Zealand will be going head to head in a Best-of-Seven series with live commentary and stream. The winner of the BO7 each weekend will go on to play a new challenger drawn from the top of the Australasian SC2 talentpool as voted in by the Oceanic public, as well as score themselves $50 thanks to CyberGamer Australia. Live coverage will be provided by gamestah casters kitfox and daman, with support from local Australian commentators deth and Unstable (varies week to week) on Gamestah TV or deth's livestream. Gamestah TV1The next cast is at 7:00PM on Wednesday the 8th of September. Legionnaire was best known for his StarCraft: Brood War career, where he achieved what others from the Oceania region can only dream about - playing for a professional Korean team. Despite a slow start in SC2, Legionnaire was spurred to become more competitive by several large tournaments boasting prize pools that the former Protoss pro couldn't ignore. And so Legionnaire is back, despite never being completely absent from the top few Protoss players floating around the SEA server, and this week's KOTH series provides the perfect platform to let everyone know. Kowi has been the star of the New Zealand national team in recent tournaments so expect a strong showing from the kiwi protoss. His micro can be attributed to his WC3 status as the best and possibly only world-class player to come out of NZ and his PvP is one of his stronger matchups. Recently he defeated Azz in a showmatch 2-1 but a BO7 will really test his depth as he has been accused of recycling the same build every game with only minor tweaks. But if it ain't broke! The winner recieves AU$50 courtesy of CyberGamer: Legionnaire < Kulas Ravine > Kowi Legionnaire < Blistering Sands > Kowi Legionnaire < Delta Quadrant > Kowi Legionnaire < Lost Temple > Kowi Legionnaire < Steppes of War > Kowi Legionnaire < Metalopolis > Kowi Legionnaire < Xel’Naga Caverns > Kowi Week 1 VODs pinder vs Hectic Week 2 VODs pinder vs KJHWeek 3 VODs Azz vs KJHWeek 4 VODs Azz vs Kowi[url blocked] + Show Spoiler [Week 1 Results] +[url blocked] + Show Spoiler [Week 2 Results] +[url blocked] + Show Spoiler [Week 3 Results] +[url blocked] + Show Spoiler [Week 4 Results] +The Australian and New Zealand community has the chance to participate in the KOTH event via a preliminary KOTH feature soon to be announced! Voting will no longer be used. The sign ups for participating will be situated at CyberGamer.com.au, but as stated the format is yet to be announced.

TL is great because it has a large Oceanic community and also many SEAsians (and US players who we will be connected with eventually) but cybergamer is probably the best for aus/nz only local stuff.
There are one or two other sites in development for Aussie SC2 to keep an eye on too, bringing something new to the table. Teamaus is coming back I heard from a reliable source so that should be cool but the domain name is being camped :3

Honestly its easier to expand to the raised 3rd than your natural as just about every race..the fuck?

Good news guys, CyberGamer has picked up the tab and will be shouting the $50 to the winner so definitely head over to the SC2 section and express your thanks (as well as vote for your favourite players!)

Added sensei (IGN: sAint) to the voting pool!
Good chance for him to start from scratch I think he can be a top player.

Guys I added some polls to teamliquid to speed up the voting. These polls will be weighted less than the cybergamer thread votes because there's no guarantee that people know who the players are, but they still count

I was thinking of changing the time to something more accommodating to other, larger events which may want to happen at this prime time.
While the time of KOTH will be pretty flexible to accommodate these I would like to find a default time to run them so there is some sense of continuity and consistency.

BTW don't worry about stream going down, it may do that between matches to modulate the VODs or fox kitfox's lag or w/e.

Del you might want to fix the results as they're obviously wrong as we all can say with 100% confidence that there is no way a protoss could possibly lose on Delta Quadrant...

haven't watched that much sc2 but in these matches it seems like protoss has more 'options' - but maybe it's down to a skill gap

Need to show some interest or it might not be worth continuing, especially with top players reluctant to play against other top players in BO7 due to the blizz invite tourney.

The reason there are no votes this week is because I am thinking of implementing a format change, what do you guys think of:
BO7, King of the Hill plays against 7 people who sign up, and has to go 7-0 to get a prize or something. So people would sign up and get chosen at random, placed on a map, and play in order. If someone beats the 'King' they get to play the next week?

Note: The next cast is at 8:15PM on Sunday the 29th of August.
If Kowi doesn't show (unable to contact him this week) it will be pp'd to next weekend!

Kowi is rather impressive. In the last koth match he hadnt even played for a week and not even a pratice game before facing azz. Very nice

Re-thinking some of the ideas for this event.
What do people think of the following points?
- Opening it up to SEA nations - Opening it up to all levels of players (so, high level vs low/medium/high levels instead of high level players each week) - Run it so that a high level player has to win against 7 'applicants' who can sign up to play in order to get the prize - Less/more frequent - Run a lower KOTH with less well known players ('Prince' of the hill?) for the right to challenge the main KOTH - Prefer open to all players, or just decently well known players? - Make it a chance for up-and-coming players to test themselves, or prefer to keep it as an exhibition of high level Aus/NZ players? - Throw in some custom maps (e.g. SC1 map remakes) or other fun things? Some less well-known maps perhaps? - Change the time it's run? - Post-match interviews with the player, or some kind of lead-up event beforehand to slowly increase viewers?
|
Pre-match stuff would definately help. Interviews with the players could help psyc it up a bit. I like the idea of custom maps to mix it up. It's nice weekly as it's frequent but I think people miss it a bit coz it is so frequent and thus forget/cant watch every week.
Idea of lower level players is good but how low would you be going? and how do you determine which lower level players would come along? Gets a bit difficult as there are a lot that are in low-mid diamond haha.
|
Less often imo, as you can see finding players every week is a bit hard. Maybe once a month, that way you can hype it up a bit more along with pre-match stuff.
I like the idea of only AUS & NZ. But i guess if its hard just limiting it too AUS & NZ because of player base, its understandable for you to expand it to the whole of SEA server.

Prince of the Hill sounds hilarious, it would be nice as a stand alone tournament (no prize maybe), and like you said, the best player could face off in KOTH.

Just wanted to have something to show instead of yet another postponement. Voices wasn't even on the list for voting into the KOTH.
However, Kowi's reward is that he will be the defending champion when the tournament recieves a facelift.
This event will be on hiatus while the format is reimagined and focus is on PSI Storm!

If your'e going to use the format where qualifiers play each other and the last man standing gets to play the defending champ. Can you have the games a week after the challenger is announced so they can practice for matchup?
