Description: An attempt at 3 axis mirror symmetry... mains are rotated with adjacent ramped high ground at nat back entrance. Both nat entrances are 9 units wide.
Description A fantasy steampunk themed map, 3 golds in the centre, map focus is around height difference in the centre and being able to intercept routes throughout the map.
Description The faces of death stare out as harbingers of destruction. This map was designed with 3-way symmetry in mind and to encourage a macro game.
Didn't have enough time to complete a 3 player map for this month due to me being quite busy. If I can manage to get one finished before the submission period ends I'll put one in, otherwise Good luck to all the mappers this month, already have some very nice submissions!

Triangle Love Moon has rotational and mirror symmetry, fun! The natural has two chokes, each two forcefields wide, but you can break the rocks to open them up even more. Zergs: you can always expand away, clockwise/CCW spawn doesn't matter. You're welcome.
Hm weird.. I can't find anything in the rules about the point that you need to give your map a name that's as complicated as possible and misspell it to make it even more fun :o
Description - A somewhat different industrial themed 3-player map. The games will be different depending on spawnlocations, while the map is still balanced no matter where you spawn.
WniO is Pora already online? I would love to take a look at it ^_^ imo ihasaKAROT just threw down the real metalopolis map, lol Overall the aesthetics have gone WAY up in my opinion... some of them maybe so much that they might be hard to play on, but from here they are damn pretty!
GL to the players, and hopefully we get some last minute submissions!
(oh and iGrok, you need to fix the day that the map pool is selected, it still says March ^_^)
Description : Pillar style map in dark ulaan colors and mist but numerous sources of light for vision. One gold and 3 expos per base that expand away from the mains. Weather the storm if you dare.
Unfortunately produced before nullcurrent's symmetry thread so i did the best i could with the angles.
Description: An island 3 player map with no expansions, made for top tier competitive play. Three normal high yield minerals block the path to your opponent. After the gold mineral(s) are mined, you can wall off each pathway with a single barracks. Published on NA as "Shadow Wake" if you want to play.

monitor, did you name the map after the woodland excursion that is Alan Wake? 3p island map is totally ftw too, can't wait to bust this on my friends!

edit: also, go Barrin, you can make it! :D
Haha, no sorry, I don't know about Alan Wake Just randomly named it... Gameplay would be hilarious on it, would love to see replays if you save them!
[edit] Uploaded it on NA as "Shadow Wake". It'll be easier to find without the (3) in front of it.

LOL truth. If I can put some rudimentary textures on my new map I'll have a real submission, but I may end up busting out the 3p gem in my secret stash to rival the Poras and Shadow Wakes. (So awesome btw guys.)
Barrin let's race! \o/
[edit] You win! I'm always late..... it's bad..... but at least I'm not using my 80x80 map. xD
Description - A blasted wasteland with dangerous passageways. Your main base area includes a small expansion, and you can even long distance mine the high yield gas. Rocks at your choke help you wall off. The wings have narrow LosB areas, but every point on the map can be accessed by broad lanes, though roundabout. Also, there are no ramps!
the analyzer seems to be having a hard time with the non-pathable stuff
Pretty straight forward map I guess.
---1gas gold for the bold (or immobile) as well as more reclusive 3rds/4ths. ---Nat can be walled off with 2rax1depot/3rax/simple ramp to nat sim city. Nat opening can then be widened by destroying destructible rocks. ---Nat2nat is the same as 12vs3 metalopolis or slightly less than xel'naga caverns nat2nat.

I love MotM, it makes me want to go start five new maps at once
Thanks! ;D
I totally second that, seeing all the sweet maps in a row is so exciting!
18 maps submitted. That´s so cool. For a while I was worried that most map makers would dodge this challenge. I would have liked to see XelNaga Fortress here as well, but since it´s already in the GSL it´s better to give that slot to an up-and-comer. Great submissions, good luck to everyone!
On April 07 2011 03:06 bahunto28 wrote: has motm #5 challenge been announced yet?? would love to get a headstart. motm is awesome.
I'm pretty sure motm #5 is going to the normal call for any and all melee maps, but I'm disconnected from the judges' channels for this month.
iGrok will weigh in and maybe drop something about MotM #6, too, if we ask nicely
I'm 99% sure MotM #5 will be normal maps (there may be a restriction on bel'shir maps again ) but i'm sure there are a lot of people who didn't want to fight with the editor to make a 3p map (like me~) and want to get another submission in.
On April 07 2011 04:05 lefix wrote: isn't motm#6 supposedly the winners of motm#1-5?
this is my first motm, will there be feedback from the judges when it doesn't make top 5? great job by all the mappers, there are some amazing maps created. and much thanks to winpark for his 3p symmetry calculator app!
along the same lines as bahunto. It would be interesting to see the scores for all the maps in order to see what scored well on what, if the mapper gave approval to allow their score to be posted.
also thanks iGrok and the rest of the MotM team and judges for all the work you put into this.
I hear MotM 7 is maps with no reflective/rotational symmetry allowed ..... jk.

Once all of the judges have submitted their scores mappers can ask iGrok to pm them their scores. What you do with them beyond that is up to you entirely
It's worth noting that the scores don't play a huge role in how we choose our top 5. The scores allow us to round it down easily and filter the good from the bad, but beyond that when the judges get down to the actual map discussion we go over things that are too hard to quantize accurately with a score out of ten and work from there. It's entirely possible that your map - that could potentially score a 30 or better - still doesn't make the top 5. As far as the competition goes, I suggest against trying to read too far into the scores.
as this is my first map entered into the motm, i would love to get any feedback from the judges. there are some really good mappers out there. it'd be nice to hear what/why their maps are so kickass. again, awesome org and stream.
You will get feedback (or request it since last MotM) , you will get a scorecard with some quick pointers on how the judges felt the map could improve or what is spot-on on the map. Most of the guys n gals here arent afraid to post their mapscores, someone usually starts and the rest follows. If you want pure feedback on your map, well thats what the individual maptopics are for.
I think it would be cool if you would release all the map scores publicly but not put the score to the map, just so you can see the whole list. I didn't submit a map this month but the past couple months I always thought it'd be interesting to see all the other scores.
I understand the idea, but personally when I see someone has 2 points more in balance, I want to see how different their maps are from mine, else I still learn nothing

that's why it's important to have strict timetables and "guidelines"... so the judges can spend their time on discussing the data/feeling they got from playing them.. this on as many maps as possible + Show Spoiler +
of course it helps any map when the judges start out by looking at pretty pictures
Do you think that the map makers could get sent a reply of their map being tested after the competition, even if it doesnt make it past the first hurdle?
There's always something nice about seeing someone play/test your map, and if it doesnt make it past the first hurdle, that map might just end up dissapearing into the either anyways. So being able to see one replay of others on your map might be all you get.
Additionally, if the reply consists of ingame chat about the map, its pros/cons etc, then its a general good thing in learning about your map and how to improve in the future.
lol So I have a couple replays. For the record, me and my friends aren't even ranked (well 1 is silver I think), so take that for what it is. On top of that, it's FFA, so while it might not say anything about the balance it does say something about the fun I'm the Protoss player
My friends are generally turtly players, so I was hoping Pora would make them more aggressive. In the end, it was not the case lol. On Shadow Wake I knew I could warp in rush and make them a little annoyed because they wouldn't think about it
I really like the 1base maps actually, makes the units more precious so you take better care of them, esp. cause I'm the type to keep attacking till all my units are lost u.u

Holy shit Admiral Adama D: Glad you and the crew can participate! lol
And ihasaKAROT, yeah, I guess it just makes them more scared. I made a random map where we were close enough to be in each others' naturals but they still tried to turtle :/
The final pool for MotM #4 is set. Thanks to everyone for mapping - I know this month was extra hard due to the restriction, but by and large TL responded with good maps.
This month we had funcmode guest judge. dimfish decided that he wanted to submit one of his own maps, and stepped down for the month. So, funcmode, prodiG, FlopTurnReaver, BoomStevo and myself were left to judge all the 3p maps.
These finalists will be the map pool for the MotM Tournament #4, which will be cast on iCCupTV by our very own prodiG!
But we know why you're really here. It's awards time.
The Sixth Man Award - Strip Mine, Grebliv. Strip Mine was a good map. The forward 3rd golds were very interesting.
Most Attractive Map - The Eighteenth, Silence-; The Machine, Archivan. Both of these maps were really well done aesthetically, and in ways that complemented the map architecture. The Eighteenth was an awesome unique idea and executed perfectly, and The Machine is done with Archi's trademark mystical style with a dash of steampunk that works nicely.
Most Original - Triangle Love Moon, dimfish. Really cool symmetry, bringing back island bases, and the debris piles in the naturals... this map is full of original ideas.
The Guest Judge Award - Masada, winpark. funcmode wanted to specially recognize Masada as one of his favorites this month
prodiG's special awards will be up soon!
I'll be sending out scorecards to anyone who pm's me for them. You do not have to share these with anyone, they are for your information only - if you've got any questions about your score please do it privately. Averages went down this month, but thats to be expected with a difficult restriction like this. For your information, here are the averages this month (last month's in green): Balance/Originality/Fun /Aesthetics/Total 5.37 / 6.66 / 5.07 / 5.89 / 22.98 5.91 / 6.54 / 5.71 / 5.68 / 23.84
Again, thanks to everyone who contributed. MotM 4 is looking great! Just remember that this is only the beginning, that we strongly encourage you to play these top five maps and see what makes them so good! Hang out in channel MotM, I'll set up games on all of these maps when I can on NA, and keep an eye out for events on EU as well!
Next month is back to normal - any map can be submitted. Looking forward to some great maps!
Thanks to everybody who made this possible, FlopTurnReaver, prodiG, funcmode, as well as every one of you mapmakers and players! Looking forward to a great Tournament.
the final 5 is what I thought it would be, especially whilst going through the map entries whilst waiting for scores. (Its bad when you pick your own top 5 and your map isnt in it )
Well done to everyone who took part and especially the final 5, those are some seriously great maps.
On April 11 2011 13:33 WniO wrote: why wasnt mine top 5
IDK man. I gave Pora a 40/40. Not sure why it wasn't picked.
I also think Pora breaks the traditional "12drone rush is strongest rush" mentality. With the starting Gold bases, SCV autorepair becomes very useful, and with proper micro can beat a 12 drone rush. Very interesting dynamics here.
My map is now available for public play and Download. here (Because I'm shameless )
General feed back would be great, coz I'm still learning really. If anyone has any fun games on it I would love to see a replay. Hopefully people can have some fun games on it whilst they wait for the final 5 to really sink their teeth into.

the 12 drone rush never broke any map, if i ever lost to that i think i would throw up.
One day its gonna happen guys I'll be top 5 once , just wait... a while... probably a long while ... for MotM to not be as popular and only have 5 entrants probably
gg all, Silence- I told you so!

Most likely next wednesday. Maybe even saturday afternoon if I'm really bored. Can't guarantee anything though. Gonna announce it in here before I do something though.
