Nothing against Nerchio, but I'm hoping White-Ra takes it. He's just got that champion aura. Plus, who DOESN'T love White-RA?
That said, I have a feeling Nerchio will surprise everyone with a win. The guy's been looking unbeatable lately. But maybe I'm just still in awe of his ZvZ @_@

i don't know, Nerchio seems quite unstoppable. the format is favoring White-ra of course.
No matter who wins, I just hope people tune in to watch. A $50,000 prizepool for a tournament that has so far averaged 10k viewers doesn't seem economically sound to me.

I think pretty much everyone is hoping for White-Ra to take it. I have nothing against Nerchio, but he is a pretty controversial figure whereas White-Ra is maybe the the biggest fan favorite of EU.

The schedule is very confusing. Whenever I tune in they are streaming completely random matches that doesn't have anything to do with the tournament. It's very frustrating and I stopped following IPL for a while now.
white-ra is a boss, but nerchio is like top1 non-korean atm, so i actually don't care who wins, they both deserves it, just let it be fkin AWESOME GAMES

Sorry you're having difficulties! Here is where you can find our schedule:
Basically it is always our new content at 5 PM PDT or 6:30 PM CEST followed by previous content for those who haven't seen it or want to see it again in a community setting. We are working to continue to expand our calendar's presence, so if there's an obvious thing we missed, please let us know!
So, is the final played live or was it also played weeks ago? Great tournament, thanks! But I must admit that not having the games played live (or almost live) takes away a lot of charm.

That is not a joke. One can debate whether he or someone else has that spot, but Nerchio is definitely in contention for it. Although everything is quite close at the top.
The NA guys often dont know him that well, but in Europe he is considered as one of the very best.

Even in Europe I can come up with several names that are better than him right away....Nani, Socke, White-Ra, Dimaga, Stephano, Thorzain, Tarson.
I mean, he's not a bad player, but what has he accomplished before...ever?

His name has been floating around for a while, he's been in a lot of online tournaments in Europe, you can see his name every two weeks in the Team Liquid prize roundup, he's always winning something or other.
He's probably one of the best foreign Zergs right now along with Sen, Dimaga and possibly Stephano. He's quite possibly a contender for best foreigner, but that's a list with like 10-12 other players so it's not exactly clear cut.

Wasn't these matches played weeks ago? It would be interesting to know when the match was played to know if they implemented new playstyles, form from recent tournaments and the peak of the players.
Edit: This does not change the fact that I think this will be a great series! I'm just curious

Yesterday the said the tourney was mostly played in July, so I would guess finals were played about 3 weeks ago.
Nerchio is a zerg beast. His macro is fantastic. He utilizes attacks on multiple fronts. His strategic decisions are sound, for the most part. I think he sold himself short with the early drone cuts in games 1 and 4 vs Mana, trading an even mid- to late-game for a chance at a quick win. With the way the rest of his play looks though, it's possible that these maneuvers are part of his BoX plan, forcing safe play from his opponents.

Hehe no offence but Europe just has the best players overall(except for korea then ofcourse).
I think Nerchio is a very good player. But you can't call him the top foreigner when he hasn't won a big tournament. Winning IPL would be huge for his career as it would be his first really big win. But calling him the best non Korean, its just too soon. Can he compete with the best? Yes. But is he the best? No. He just doesn't have the major wins that you need to be considered the best. You have to be at your best when the lights are at their brightest, thats what really separates the best from the rest. Winning IPL would be a step in the right direction. Next would be taking down a lan event.
European vs European final that airs at a time where us Europeans cant watch it. I'm trying hard not to sleep but it's impossible. I believe it is my time. Sorry IPL, I would have loved to watch it.

Yeah, this has been a nice tournament there's some things to fix of course like for us europeans we don't really like the rebroadcasts I want to watch it when it's "live" but 2 AM - 4-5 AM is quite the stretch. Some days it's not even IPL it's some random showmatch or something that I don't care about. The live part is also a problem but I heard PainUser talk about it on inside the game so I guess you know that. It's much more exciting if the games are actually live, sure some problems could occur from that but it makes the games more exciting so it's a trade that I think everyone is willing to make.
anyways I have enjoyed the games when I've actually watched them so keep on keeping on hopefully the finals will be nice.

i would normally cheer for whitera but nerchios run through the entire losers bracket and the plethora of top players he has beaten means im pretty neutral on this one.

Wow...do all double elimination tournaments have this rule? It does make total sense that you have to eliminate winners' bracket winner twice too, just hadn't thought about it.

Aye, that's the basis of double elimination. You have to lose two sets to be eliminated.
Haha nice by nerchio, but too early pool I feel. We discussed on another thread how protoss always forge expand on this map and how a semi early pool could be devastating.
So happy for whitera, after he finishes winning ipl season 2, he will have won a substantial amount of prize money from starcraft 2, so glad to see him performing in starcraft 2 when a lot of previous starcraft 1 progamers have faltered!
omg IPL, you guys have such great production quality. I really hope you guys can make a live-event or atleast a more up-to-date event :p. It would be one of the best events in SCII for sure.

Of course, that's how it's been the whole time, and it prevents lag issues with casters and all. Until there's LAN (hamachi-like, or b.net1 p2p), it's probably the simplest way to cast games.
Not sure I agree with all the attention they were giving that pylon. Okay, sure he could have re-planted his natural, but White-Ra had zealots on Nerchio's drone line and void rays on the way with no queens alive. It was already over.
I have to say this analysis is really bad, particularly hd saying that a zerg is commonly going to open 15 hatch on this map. 15 hatch on this map is borderline suicide because it's so common for the protoss to forge expand. If the zerg goes hatch first it's really hard to stop a cannon rush. Early pool on this map is also really common because of the aforementioned forge expand. If you do a 9 pool into 6 lings into fast queen you can delay the toss from dropping the expansion because they have to complete the wall-in and you get an early queen. You also have the added benefit of potentially winning if the lings get in and kill the pylon.
Yeah, comments and after game analysis makes me think this is going to be a quick series. Like GSL July played all those "Baneling" segments between games in order to stall for time to prevent what looked like a straight 4-0.
Cool production values on this, if your going to cast from replays there is no reason not to add in all these extra bits like the replay of how it went down etc. I really like this...although the theme is a little odd to me but thats simply personal preference, its certainly not bad.
The ONLY downside is that nothing is done live. I simply can't get hyped or pumped or find myself anywhere near as excited for these matches knowing that it all happened months ago.
It's kinda weird that HD and Painuser still has so little chemistry when they've casted two seasons already. I think it's just because the difference in game knowledge is so great.

I think Nerchio cancelled the hydra den at 50%, started the spire, cancelled the spire at the last second and restarted hydra den. Can't do that against a pro.

No, they aren't, the one-person minerals is a quirk of the result-hiding maps they use. The games are ~1.5 months old, if I recall correctly.

Nerchio just beat himself the first two games. He made some very basic scouting errors which doesn't do normaly. I hope he pulls it together. Thusfar mana vs. nerchio was way better. It would be a pity if the finals end like this.

He arrived just some hours before EU Bnet invitational from US and he tweeted that he slept two times on the site during games. No to say that Nerchio would not win anyway, but White-ra played terribly badly and made it easy for Nerchio.

It doesn't really bother me. Recorded is functionally the exact same as live as long as noone knows the results!
true enough, although if there has been a metagame shift in the interim period it is quite obvious.
This makes me want to start banning people who misuse the world metagame so badly... please stop.
Didn't you guys (or at least chill) ban people for a period of time right before SC2 beta for misusing metagame (also caster just got the use right I think)? I recall that happening right around when Flash first got dual finals.

watching White-ra sit there as that zerg army got right up in his face was painful. If he micro'd the colossus back he could have won that battle convincingly.
Bahahaha, despite the fact that WhiteRa lost, he still managed to kill three times the units of Nericho, so it's pretty clear who the better player is.

nah white ra did, no dmg with his stargate play, which let the zerg take a 4th base, if he defends it, which he did with almost no loses. this sets up a damn near unbeatable timing from zerg, where you need perfect micro to defend, and you likely may never take a 4th.

Also when the zerg makes that many queens in the beginning of the game don't bother throwing away units in order to kill them. It is 100% pointless to do so because if you kill 1 of the 4 queens there are still 3 that are available to 2 hatcheries. =/
It's funny that Zerg actually make hydra in the first push to kill all thge air, then only make roaches lings. That's how bad hydra are for zerg, a silly unit you have to make to deal with air, and then forget about it. :/

Best of Seven is likely too much because of the fact that the tournament is double elimination. That would mean players in the finals would have to play a maximum of 14 games, which most people would agree to be just be too much. I think Bo5 is enough anyway but for double elimination I don't think you can do more than that.

yeah i like it too, the atmosphere is fantastic, it's pleasant to listen to them. i'm working meanwhile but it's just good to listen to in the background(gotta admit not the most effective working of my life heh)
i dont mind that the games are casted from replays but I think over a month (maybe longer?) old is too much. the game changes so much right now month 2 month and it feels like im watching outdated play.
Man it'd be great if they actually just banned everyone who repeatedly complained about the casters in chat... it might make using the chat viable for me. Oh well. Good games so far.

Similar openers as this game. Nerchio takes a very quick third and deflects the void ray + phoenix pressure very well, thanks in part to WhiteRa not microing his VR away in time.
Nerchio techs to roaches and hydras and begins pressuring the third of WhiteRa after taking down the destructible rocks. He kills it several times, and takes his fourth in the meantime. WhiteRa at one point techs to double robo Colossi and finishes thermal lance, as well as continuing some Void Ray production, but it isn't enough to hold Nerchio's constant attacks with lings, roaches, and hydras at his third, and GG's out.
On August 15 2011 10:05 Psyqo wrote: Can anyone give me a quick G3 recap? Saw g1 and g2 missed g3.
white ra failed to do any damage with his quick stargate harass on terminus, nerchio macroed up, poked around ra's 2nd and 3rd with roach-ling-hydra and destroyed buildings here and there, killed his 3rd two times, and was able to remake stuff much faster, white-ra made voids and coloxen and immortals and held for fairly long but eventually got starved out.
So many things could have won nerchio the game considering how many bases he was on... infestors... banelings... mass ling/muta vs mass stalker/colossus doesn't end well for ling/muta :c
Woohoo white-ra! I admit I didn't think he could do it but he proved me wrong.
Fun fact: With the $15,000 he just won, White-ra is now the highest earning non-Korean SC2 progamer in terms of prize money, suprassing Huk by a couple grand.
Did White-Ra scout the muta's in any way? It just seems so weird that he continued production of phoenixes after his harass failed. It's logical if you play Darkforce who has been known to do that but I can't remember seeing Nerchio ever doing this.
While the casting was decent, it was apparent that the casters always knew the winners of the games before the casting was actually done. I could tell in the first 5 minutes of every match (based on how they were talking about each player) who was going to win.
Poor Nerchio. That was such an interesting strat choice, but you just CAN'T send lings against 4 Colossus. And you CAN'T send mutas against 30 stalkers.

Liked the idea of an early pool right off the bat on G1, esp on a map like Shakuras where 15 hatch is almost assumed. G2 I didn't care much for. I would have liked the heavy droning and infestor switch if he scouted a bit more to make sure that he wasn't opening himself up to a huge attack like he ended up doing. G3 I really liked the constant aggression he was displaying to make sure that 3rd could never kick in. G4 I liked the unit comp but he didn't play it out right - as others have said you are supposed to base trade with it, not do direct engagements when he comes to attack you.

That was and is everybodies main point about nerchio when they criticize him though, that he lacks offline/"LAN" wins.
I personally think that's awash because bnet was his first big LAN and he still performed decent even while clearly playing quite nervous and timid. In time even in LAN's he'll be a force.

Didn't know Siw, Chelovek and Slivko (3 of the last 4 players Nerchio played against in EU cups) were considered the best in EU. Yes, Nerchio does play against top players but often times he plays against the players I listed as well.
Offline play will forever be counted as the place where you put-up-or-shutup. If you can't perform offline, what business do you have being considered a better player than those that do perform against the absolute best in the most pressured situations?

But the thing is, they were even commentating the phoenix harass, they were there with the camera, afaik atleast ONE of the casters actually controls that camera right? ok, perhaps they could have done a better job, and it's ok to suggest improvements that they could have made. but to call them "shit" for one misread is to do them a disservice to the SC2 community at hand and reflects a selfish attitude that you have that everyone must be held to a Day[9] level of casting. get over it, not everyone is Day[9], not everyone is Husky (and I know a lot of people don't like him too), but they got to where they are because people like them, and if the majority of people think they're decent casters, i would say that would be the case.

I don't think that's very likely, Sen left Fnatic because he wanted to play in the TeSL and most of those teams don't send their players to other tournaments they just play in Taiwan.

Yeah, thats what I am worry about too. Sen seems to take up a role to develop e-sports in Taiwan and chose to stay there instead of international fame. I mean, if he join any decent international team like TL or EG, his chance of ripping faces at NA/EU tournament will greatly increase.
But his new team also state that they will send him whenever he wants to go to attend foreign tourney.

That is beyond a dumb comment. White-Ra has shown that he can beat amazing players. Look at his games vs. MC.
Yes, I admit there is variance is SC2 which allows much worse players to sometimes win single games (As was the case when White Ra cheesed MC in the already volatile PvP format). My point is were WR or Nerchio to play say a best of 100 with any Code A player I think they would lose almost to every single player. They may be capable of beating about 5-10% of Code A players in such a format but even that's optimistic in my opinion.

That is beyond a dumb comment. White-Ra has shown that he can beat amazing players. Look at his games vs. MC.
Yes, I admit there is variance is SC2 which allows much worse players to sometimes win. My point is were WR or Nerchio to play say a best of 100 with any Code A player I think they would lose almost every single one. They may be capable of beating about 5-10% in this format of Code A players but even that's optimistic, in my opinion.

As long as you have a little scv icon beside your name with less than 2 digits post numbers, your opinion counts as trolling here. Especially when you make somewhat retarded claims (i also consider little scvs with less then 2 digit posts numbers to have no game knowledge and be ignorants trolls in general, btw) sorry
Well that's a rather foolish way of making characterizations.
Your position is that there's a linear relationship between post count and "game knowledge"/intelligence? It's pretty self-evident how simplistic and nonsensical this is, yes?

The only trolling going on here is your awful post

your opinion. I am only answering to some guy that take it upon himself to drop ¨knowledge bombs¨ on LR threads. Take me for a troll? go ahead. Now he isnt wrong on the point that those guys would prolly lose to a code A player who actually train more and have to suffer stronger competition, but there is a time, a place and a way to say it. Doing so in a LR thread of a non korean tournament isn't the place nor the time IMO, and when you make a new account seemingly for the SOLE purpose to do so pretty much goes into trolling in my book. This is also what i was meaning with my initial post, that, i confess, could had been written in a much better way, now that I reread it.

If i remember correctly White-Ra got cheesed by MC to lose 2-3. Especially then losing to MC was no shame. Your argument (if it could be called that) could be used against you as well. MC won cause of variance/because PvP is volatile (obv. I too agree that MC is stronger then white-ra, just making a point). Besides that your post is just: I think GSL code A players would crush these guys. Great argument..
Congratz WhiteRa for a well deserved win. and also to Nerchio for fighting it out all the way to the very end. And of course thank you to the IPL team, great production this season! Awesome finals, looking forward to next season!

It's not a dig he's making at people with low post counts (besides, you have a two digit post number), it's specifically against these previously banned users who roll up new accounts just to piss people off by insulting as wide a cross-section as they can; in this case, the entire roster of the IPL S2.
Also I remember losing to nerchio 1-2 in one of the last IPL qualis... pretty awesome he made it to the finals! gg's thx for running everything IGN awesome league like usual great production games casting and everything. Can't wait for season 3.

My post was not made with the intention of "pissing off as many people as I can" but merely to state a thought which crossed my mind while watching the match. I have never had a previous account on TL so contrary to what you assume, not everyone who thinks differently from the status quo should immediately be classified as a "troll".
I simply found the level of play to be striking when contrasted with its huge production and prize pool. I honestly believe I see better play in random code A matches every weeknight on GSL.
i'm a little betrayed that it says the finals are still running on the side. you're just showing replays. thats not cool imo, it's over take it off. there are other ways to get publicity.
I am quite happy that White-Ra has won :D he deserved it more than me in this series because i didn't play too well especially in the last 2 series(vs Mana, and vs White-ra) but on the other hand i am not too good vs Protoss. Also was a little bit unlucky - first game i made 2 lings to stop cannon rush but the probe sneaked in and i didn't see it so it didn't turn out too good for me, and in the last game unfortunately he saw my mutas coming out so he could continue phoenix production.

Cheers for showing manners! Soon enough you'll plow the way in e-sports with the polish flag in hand. ^_^

The schedule is very confusing. Whenever I tune in they are streaming completely random matches that doesn't have anything to do with the tournament. It's very frustrating and I stopped following IPL for a while now.
It can be economically sound when 10k viewers watch 80+games
its not that nerchio has been able to win only some small online cups, but he also won some bigger online tournaments and invitationals. Check out his results.

First thing First.....White Ra and Nerchio were at the Bnet EU invitational and not at Assembly.
Nerchio at THIS moment is most likely better then White Ra so at the Invitational Nerchio deserved to win from White Ra. White Ra said himself that because of travelling and not practising he has dropped huge amount of "skill". 4 days ago when he streamed you could see on his stream how many mistakes he made and the big amount of games he lost. Then the day after he streamed again and went like 33-2 in games....so i think some good rest and proper practice he will be as gosu again as when he beat Nerchio a month ago for this IPL Final.
Im a big WhiteRa fan but Nerchio Went through the Loser bracket like a fcking beast. He made through : Kiwikaki Minigun Vibe Goody Ret Idra Thorzain Mana....with some 3-0s on ret and idra making them look bad.
BUT in the End the better player at that moment won and that was the mighty Ra!!!

Uhhhhhh, why would you read the live report thread if you're trying to avoid spoilers? You KNOW it was already played for the US timezones. You KNOW people are going to talk about it. Why wouldn't they? Nobody is forcing you to go beyond the first page in this thread. Nobody posted spoilers outside of this thread and the Fanclub threads (another place you logically DON'T go if you're trying to avoid spoilers).

The whole point of a live report thread is to talk about the games being played. Apart from the opening post, there is no such thing as a spoiler in a live report thread.
This is awesome. Great tournament by white-ra, I would have been happy with either player winning the finals, but that finish was just perfect. Does anybody know if he played this before or after mlg anaheim?
