I am pleased to announce Texas StarCraft Showdown, hosted by Texas e-Sports Association, a University of Texas at Austin student organization. Registration for this tournament is open on a first come, first served basis to those that can attend in person on the day of the tournament. The tournament will occur in two separate, distinct phases which are detailed further below. The second, LAN, phase will include live commentary, contests, giveaways, raffles, and a substantial prize pool.
** Thanks to the generous support of AT&T, our prize pool has DOUBLED to $3000!! **
Official Website Post: http://studentorgs.utexas.edu/tespa/starcraftshowdown.html
TeSPA hosted its first two StarCraft II tournaments in November, 2010 and April, 2011. Both tournaments were warmly met by both the community and participants. In the first, 64 participants battled it out for the cash prize pool of $700 USD in the first tournament. Notable names included the like of EG.Strifecro, ZpuX, and more. There were memorable moments that were captured here for all to view. The second tournament boasted a $1500 USD prize pool with 128 participants with players including vileHawk and TriMaster.
Given the previous success of the past tournaments, TeSPA has decided to raise the stakes yet again to make this tournament even more successful. We requested feedback on both tournament, and the participants provided accordingly. We have listened to both the compliments and complaints, and have taken the necessary steps to resolve previous concerns.
Total Participants: 128 Prize Pool: $3000 Date: 10/22* (Online), 10/29 (LAN) Location: Austin, Texas – University of Texas at Austin campus *Pool play dates are somewhat flexible. Minor timing conflicts should not deter registration.
We are pleased to announce that the event will be cast by none other than Evil Geniuses' Geoff "iNcontroL" Robinson! We're very excited to have him with us, live and in-person, for this great event. His incredible energy, passion, and game knowledge is sure to make the spectator experience unforgettable!
This is an event for everyone!
Attention Bronze to Diamond league players: We are pleased to announce *additional cash prizes* for the furthest advancing players from each league. We will determine the top advancing player through a simple point system. Each winners bracket game win will yield the player two points and each losers bracket game win will yield one point. A prize for each league will be awarded: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond.
Attention StarCraft-loving Universities We are pleased to be able to offer a 24 port HP Procurve switch and 10 ethernet cables as a prize to the University that has the most number of attendees (other than UT)! Players and spectators both count, so be sure to register early and put in your bid to start your own gaming house! Bring your best players and your best fans to show your love for eSports.
Player Challenges >> The player that wins the most games (more than 2) under 6 minutes will win a X-Armor Cherry MX brown switch mechanical keyboard. >> The player that wins the most games (more than 2) with the lowest APM greater than 25, will win a Logitech G500 laser.
Games from the pool play carry into the brackets for the LAN Ro64 and all count towards this prize.
Due to a previous participant cutoff last tournament, we have decided to conduct the tournament in two distinct phases in an effort to better seed players while including all participants that may want to compete. The first phase will be online, pool play, 128-player bracket with 4 players per pool. The second phase will be a LAN, double elimination, 64-player bracket.
Phase I: Online Seeding Date: 10/22 (primary) & 10/23 (back-up) Start Time: 4 PM CST End Time: 8 PM CST (Estimated) Players: 128 Style:4 person pool play Seeding:Ladder score will determine group seeding Result:The top 56 players will advance to the LAN portion of the tournament in Austin, Texas on 10/29. So you must get top 64 in Online Phase to go to compete correct?
|
On October 05 2011 08:23 BradfordLove wrote: So you must get top 64 in Online Phase to go to compete correct?
Yes, because of location logistics we will only be able to have 64 computers at this event. However, if fewer than 64 people sign up, then everybody will advance without need to qualify.

As soon as we hit 64, we can let you know. Other than that, the latest time you'll know is the last day we will accept sign ups. Although with that said, spots are rapidly being taken, so I'd anticipate a full bracket.
To anyone who has been considering registering for our tournament, make sure you sign up done soon! We are filling up fast and won't be able to guarantee anyone a spot after we fill up. I'm really excited about the improvements we have in store this time around - the event is going to be awesome! If you have any questions, feel free to post them or PM one of our coordinators.

The venue looks really sick!
I'm coming up from San Antonio. IF you are a roadrunner from UTSA, or ur just from san antonio PM me if you need ride. skype is dontbicme

There will be limited parking at the venue, but we will have a drop off area for all computer equipment. In about a week, we will begin selling parking passes (which we may subsidize part of) on the street adjacent to the venue and submit a bulk order to the University. Otherwise, we will have detailed maps and instructions for off-campus parking (~5-10 minute walk) for anyone who wishes to find parking elsewhere. Because of the limited parking outside the venue, we highly encourage car-pooling. In the past, we've done this and things have gone smoothly.

Trust us, we'll have the internet very well taken care of. Bandwidth and speeds will not be an issue. Our connection was so good on our last stream that we were forced to turn the quality down so people could watch it.

that speedtest got me super excited!!! and i already submitted my aplication but since then ive ranked up 150 points on ladder so should i contact someone in the next week saying my new ranking cuz i think 200-300 point difference will matter in seeding. But regardless i am super stoked for this event. If anyone needs anything as far as clarification or any good places to hang out if your coming from outside of austin go ahead and ask and I will see what I can do!!! Esports!!!

Signed up! If anybody is in Dallas and needs help getting down there, send me a PM.

spots filling up super fastt SIGN UP AND GRAB YOUR SPOTS !

that speed of 100mbps up down is per IP address. the university is on fiber backbone with 10 Gbps cards to Dallas.
MLG's got nothing compared to this. not even close.

|
Yep - dorm resistants can even request a gigabit port be installed so they can access higher speeds if they so wish.

There are about 100 participants thus far, hurry and sign up before we fill up.

few spots left don't miss your chance for eternal epicness

I'll probably submit the paypal payment Friday =o.
So since I've already said I'm unavailable this Saturday, what day-time will I be playing/how will this work out? I'm available Sunday nights for CSL anyways, so if that works that would be awesome.

Thanks to the generous support of AT&T, we were able to extend the early-bird prices throughout the registration period. The registration fee is $15 for players ($12 for TeSPA members). For non-players to spectate, it costs $5 ($2 for TeSPA members) to get in the door, but all spectators are automatically entered into many of the raffles we'll be having. Add an additional $5 if you wish to purchase catered lunch from Chipotle (we must have the payment in advance to ensure we order enough).
We'll be making a few exciting announcements tomorrow about what players and spectators can expect! Our team has been working tirelessly to ensure this event surpasses all expectations and are all very excited about the direction in which we're heading.

TIEBREAKER RULES
If player A and player B have the same numberof wins, but A has won over B in a previous game then A will be the winner. Ifa tie still exists, a rematch will be played.
In the case of a 3 way tie, the player that has beaten the other two players automaticallyadvances. The winner of the remaining players then advances. If there is stilla tie, they will rematch.
Example:
Player A: 3-1
Player B: 2-2
Player C: 2-2
Player D: 2-2
Player E: 1-3
Player B, C, and D go 2-2 in their pool
Player B beats player C and D. Player B advances. If Player C has beaten D (or vice versa),that player advances. If there’s still a tie, then the player with the mostgame wins advances. If there is still a tie, another match will be played.
In the case of a 5 way tie, the player with the most game wins advances. In case of a tie, rematch will be played.

If nothing else, a refund is the least we can do. We'll try to work it out, though.

So is this just te group play for the kids who can make it on saturday right? For the people who play on monday a different group play list will be released?
|
Yes, there will be a different pool play for those playing on Monday
|
|
So I went 2-2 in the prelims, is there anyway for me to determine if I got into to the LAN or not?
|

For full pool play brackets, schedules, and rules, please see our website: http://studentorgs.utexas.edu/tespa/tssprelim.html

For the monday pool you sent out, there are only 3 rounds. Shouldnt there be more? Also, the monday schedule happens to coincide with a test I have to take but I checked the box to play on monday bc i didnt have any other choice. Is there any way for me to play my matches on Tuesday or Sunday?

Thanks Odien!!! ur kind words helped me win my rounds!

Important Parking Info: October 29th is a football game day at the University of Texas campus, which means a lot of the available parking on campus will be restricted. We have access to parking passes near the Student Activities Center (the location of the event), must purchase these passes in advance. If you do not purchase a pass, you will need to park in a nearby lot off campus, which we will provide detailed instructions for next week. If you park off campus (~10 min walk), we will have an unloading zone available where you can drop off your computer and accessories if you wish.
If you would like to purchase an on-campus parking pass for $15, e-mail me at AdamRosen75@gmail.com by 12PM Sunday. Carpooling is highly recommend!

Apparently the seeded spots went to the previous people from the top 8: TriMaster binski vileHawk Exo
As well as some other 4 selected individuals (idk if they competed at the first tespa, I wasn't there , I don't recall them at #2 ) vileState Axel Prophet QxGiNkA
So there will be some pretty good protoss there =(

Drakke, Snaug, and SnixSnipe, I wont be back home till about 8 central monday night. If we can please delay our games til about 8:30 central, it would greatly be appreciated! Hopefully you guys look at teamliquid :D

After all of the qualifiers finish this evening, we'll post a list of all of the players who advanced to play in the live event. As a reminder, those who do not advance will receive free entrance into the event in addition to some other benefits. Good luck in your matches if you have yet to play!

The scene you guys are putting together in Texas is amazing. Good job guys! We're working on something similar here in SoCal.

-Keyboard -Mouse -Headphones -Ethernet Cable -Power strip or extender (if you require more than one electrical outlet)
u guys have monitors handy? ill prob bring my computer
Also , if i read correctly there are no map vetos for the winner? ie loser can pick any map out of the pool

We may have an extra monitor, but I can't guarantee it. Most of the monitors we have will be reserved for 'rental' computers. If we have any extras, you are certainly welcome to use one, but I can't make any promises. If you are bringing your own computer, I highly recommend bringing a monitor also. In addition, ethernet cables are no longer required.
Currently no map vetos. We'll discuss this again tonight. If it changes, I'll be sure to let you know.

Saw the ad for this in the Daily Texan, pretty cool. It's still a shame you aren't doing any BW related things anymore.
I've been trying for little over a year now to spark something in that area.
G HF to you all!

is anyone interested in a SC1BW King of the Hill booth?
yes. a real live king of the "hill". winner stays, loser leaves. then for every consecutive game you win...

Will the bracket be posted in a couple of days?

If there is BW im there 100%. Hell even a community run BW side tourney would be fun (if ya'll are busy with sc2 stuff).
Also can non tourney players bring a comp to play with people?

I remember last year it was really easy to find everything because yall provided a map with colored areas where the event was, where the drop off area was, and where potential parking locations were. Will that exist for this event? I feel it would be very useful.

Is there an ETA to the brackets posting or will we find out the day of?

Who who's attending? By final count, we'll have attendees from 16 different universities in the region!
Austin Community College Art Institute of Dallas Baylor University Southern Methodist University St. Edwards University Stephen F. Austin State University Texas A&M University Texas State University Trinity University University of Houston University of North Texas University of Texas at Arlington University of Texas at Austin University of Texas at Dallas University of Texas at San Antonio University of Tulsa
Also, we're happy to announce that we'll be having a costume contest! Come sporting your Halloween costume (bonus points for game related) and have a chance at winning some additional great raffle prizes. Right now, we have well over $1000 worth of raffle prizes that will be up for grabs!

We'll get brackets up soon. Right now, we're waiting on a few stragglers to sign up for the z33k bracket, so no promises on timing since it relies on them. We're doing our best, though.

IMPORTANT PARKING INFORMATION FOR ALL PLAYERS AND SPECTATORS Saturday 10/29 is a Football game day on the University of Texas campus, so parking instructions must be followed very carefully. Please enter campus only as instructed on the parking map or you will run into problems.
>> Parking Map <<
Parking Instructions The event will be held in the ballroom on floor 2 of the Student Activities Center (SAC). If you get lost once you have parked on campus, ask anyone you see for instructions - it is the newest building on campus and located on Speedway, across from Inner Campus Drive and north of Gregory Gym. There will be no prepaid parking passes.
Spectators: Enter campus on 24th street from Guadalupe. Stop at the gatehouse at 24th and University Avenue, pay $15 for parking, and go park where instructed. After you have parked, walk to the Student Events center.
Players with laptops: Follow the spectator parking instructions above.
Players with desktops: Enter campus on 21st street from Guadalupe. Stop at the gatehouse at 21st and pick up an unloading permit from the TeSPA volunteer there. If no volunteer is present, explain that you must enter campus to *unload* equipment for an event in the SAC. Call (972)834-8503 if you have problems. Proceed to the event location, the "Student Activities Center," to unload your computer and monitor. Afterwards, exit campus the way you came in and follow the spectator instructions above.
Note: The game does not start until 6pm so there should be plenty of parking on speedway. If there is no parking left, the workers at the gatehouses will instruct you to the closest parking place.

Hmm OP still says check in from 8:30AM - 9AM o.o
And by "doors open" does that mean we can't set up our equipment until 10AM? So there is no reason to show up before 10AM?

All I hear is 'blah blah blah I can cheese a best of 1' PEOPLE ARE RAGING IN A TESPA THREAD! WE'VE MADE IT TO THE BIG LEAGUES!!!!
But really, I'm so sad I couldn't come. I spent most of the day working on school work and then the evening at a party which was ruined when someone stole a friends phone. I think I would have had more fun with you awesome people.
