The guy did 3-0 someone and then hears he did it for nothing and he has to play the strongest player in the tournament in the same round. I don't think anyone can play properly then Idra wouldve probably GGed before the game.
Someone as important as IdrA would've been clear to everyone what seed he was because he has followers. But we're talking about TT1 here.

Really lame for TT1, but good call nonetheless. Next time, hire better refs tough. Following rules is hurting esports? This should have never happened but at least they stuck to their rules which is by far more preffered. it would have been equaly lame for DRG to play top when he got top seed.

Honestly, they played the game out already. Seeding error, sure, that sucks. But man up and accept YOUR error. Don't fuck the players over for it.
Yargh. Stupid IEM, now I HAVE to cheer for TT1, and I don't want to do that!!! They did accept their error though, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have to be fixed. It would've been rough on DRG that way. This way all players get the chance to play the right matchups. Yea, I understand that and I get their point of view. At the same time, TT1 is now at a disadvantage. He'll have had to win more games than anyone else to win the tournament. How? He's going to have to win the exact same number of games. If Gatored won this matchup, it would still not count, so he didn't have to win this. Yes, TT1 is obviously fucked by this decision, but it was the most fair resolution - no player is eliminated, everyone still gets to play the correct matchups. It's tough psychologically after you've just won a match, but the fact is that NO ONE is "punished" in terms of format and results. On the other hand, if they stuck to this, then players WOULD get directly punished by the tournament organization (DRG and TOP). There is only one fair way to resolve this, and they've had the guts to pick it. The easiest thing to do for IEM was to just go on with the tournament. Instead, they've picked the correct way to handle the situation even if it will get them a ton more hate. Mistakes suck, but we should respect IEM for making a tough but correct decision.
I get your point, and I see it as well, but I just don't agree. I feel this is the type of mistake that the onus should fall on the tournament organizer for. THEY fucked up the seeding. TT1 accepted the hand dealt to him and won his series nicely.
Is it an ideal situation? Of course not, but now TT1 is being forced to completely reset his psychological frame. I'd be ok with it if they'd noticed a game in, or when (hypothetically) it had ended up 1-1, or 2-1. But at a 3-0 sweep, it just seems like bullshit to me.
And I understand that DRG and TOP are getting fucked by the brackets being dealt incorrectly as well. However, I feel TT1 is getting MORE screwed than them in this situation.
Shitty place to be, so be it. <3
Go TT1? Feels weird typing that >.<

All the guys bashing IEM for doing this after the match was played. Ever considered they just found out after the games? And that they then had the choice of correcting the mistake and screw one guy over or let it stand and make the whole tournament a joke for not sticking with the rules?

i still think/hope this might be trolling -_-;;

It'd be kinda deligitimising the tourney if TT1 advanced due to a match that shouldn't have happened. That said, I understand it sucks hard for him, but maybe you should hold back in some of your comments, as they are quite harsh. I'm mad that my player and good friend got fucked over O_O what's hard to understand It is easy to understand YOUR anger. But don't expect IEM organisers, DRG, fans watching etc to feel the same kind of outrage. Tournament organizers made a misstake, they corrected it, show continues shortly. One referee made a misstake, IEM corrected it. Ofc it is regrettable, but it is not a HUGE deal tbh. I vented and I'm ok now... I don't expect anyone else to feel the same outrage.
I understand your need to vent 100% :>. And tbh, as a protoss player and a regular supporter of foreign players, in the face of more and more common korean threat in tournaments i am also "slighltly" outraged by this "misstake". However i feel that the tournaments rules/fairness trumps TT1 having to play an extra Bo5 and thinking he won. I really do feel sorry for TT1 though, and for fnatic in general i suppose :>

I wonder if TT1 or Gatored should have realized that they actually didn't need to play each other before the match actually started.
Tough situation.

Meh, I'm bowing out here. I hope they at least compensate TT1 somehow (maybe auto-qualify him for the next IEM or something). Not at all, if I felt that letting the games stand would be any fairer, I'd be behind that. I however don't, both are incredibly unfair, but playing it out right is the way to go. *HOWEVER* I don't really think IEM must compensate whomever they are unfair to.

Gatored is gonna come back to win this. Calling it now!

How do these people get fucking paid full time to do this shit? Lol, bashing a lot ? Where is it written in law that you cannot overturn results of games that were played against the rules ? Oh, yes, you do not like it because that means TT1 is likely out. Too bad, but either way they go it will be unfair to someone and there is no objective reason to argue that one way is more unfair than the other. TT1 actually palyed games and won, that's why its more unfair to him? O_O THE GAME NEVER MATTERED. Is this really hard to understand? Then why did they play it? How about we ask TT1 and Gatored if the game mattered or not? ROFL. Did you listen to what carmac said? They weren't supposed to play eachother so that match doesn't count at all. It means nothing to the tourny. You didn't answer my question of why they played it. I know they weren't supposed to. But they did. Someone told them to play. Someone told them to play because whoever won will get to the semifinals. Did you even think that they didn't find out until the games were over? Thats my best guess. Then the tournament should live with the consequences of their mistake. Not the player. That would break the correct format and fuck over everyone else. So they had to either fuck over tt1 or fuck over everyone else. Logical choice is one person over many. They are the tournament organizers. They can say that this is now the format (even though it's wrong) because of a mistake. To me, that's more reasonable than telling a competitor that they played an illegitimate game because the organizers fucked up. I'm curious who would be up in arms if they had not said anything at all.

I agree. Maybe TT1 could get some compensation for it.

You have no idea how tilting that is as a player. You're responding like an asshole. Firstly as a semi-public figure you should be more careful, secondly your tournament isn't perfect either, thirdly your earlier posts were a lot less calm and collected than this one to say the least. If you have a professional problem, bitching in this thread is probably the least useful thing you could do.
What does this have to do with my tournament? Because my tournament isn't the best means I can't criticize people for bad mistakes? That logic doesn't make sense. I accept responsibility for all mistakes NASL makes, as did IEM, as should anyone who runs a tournament.
I vented and I'm better now, nothing I say can change the IEM decision, and it's fine, I've moved on already. Going to enjoy the rest of the tournament this weekend just the same as I would have normally.

Atleast this thread has been a source of entertainment between the downtime. First watching a nice PvP series and then checking the thread to watch a Xeris vs TL Bo1.
Now, feed me more games IEM, nom nom nom CONTENT.

Tough situation. I believe that if any of them did realize that they would have just called a referee and ask him to double check the brackets or something.

Actully its DRGs seed that was wrong.

@ Xeris I totally understand you're defending a friend, but just think if Gatored had won, TT1 would of had a life line and you'd be jumping for joy?
Look at it from an organisers perspective. A bit of impartiality, common sense and professionalism is required. Players got screwed, they'd be majorly pissed off, so should be compensated in some way at least.

So... (as I assumed) the commentators were wrong, when talking about randomly picked brackets from a bowl etc. Rather, the bracket is fixed: A1vD2, A2vD1, B1vC2, B2vC1; which again makes it unpredictable, because the results in a group determine who faces who. In that sense, of course, the commentators were correct that getting certain subgroup of players in the same final bracket is completely up to themselves. If Koreans had two 1st and two 2nd places in the right configuration, they had to face each other, but that's not something that can be predicted, obviously.

Just another problem that could have been fixed by letting Liquipedia be the referees! :D :D
