Thanks, kinda thought that one would be German.
|
there should be TB is over their now and is casting this tournament just dont know when.
|
Is there a possiblity to mute Mori's stream permanently? I am currently watching some GSL in the background, but the ads keep unmuting the stream...
|
Mori just gave a heads up, TB is setting up his stream and should hopefully be online soon. Dont worry !
|
Hey everybody,
a small Update we had some fucked up problems with the graphics card for the production pc (werent able to use 3 monitors which is need for picture in picture). we are using my private graphics card now, which is now working we are now in the process of finalizing everything. and the stream will be up soon
@SpecialEndrey on twitter for more updates

The poll results looks crazy. C'mon guys, let's get ReaL.

Technical difficulties are killing charities.

I kind of want to support TLO in this, but I like his beard too much. Tough times.

Because TB might use TBO's stream i reckon.

Great way to deal with delays :D
|
So, first they had problems with their graphics and now it's the sound. Couldn't they test and fix this before the event started?
|
if moris studio is in berlin just get tb there asap - problem solved
|
please change the elevator music
|
Just check the cables on the production pc...
And lower music volume on stream... We can't hear TB at all.
|
haha i enjoying the delay, the zvz was entertaining. Who needs roaches i gots infested terrans! More suprisingly the fight was so close if not for the spines. basically 2 fungals on grubbys side where missing and there would have been just infestors left on both sides + few hydras.
|
beautiful host! and TB also looks nice with the beard!
|
they checked cables like 20 times
|
That's just ridiculous that they don't have anyone who would be able to fix audio feedback.
|
is this the same organization from battle in berlin?
|
the humming is so ... steady. I don't think it origins from a recording device or mic, more likely that it's caused by the processing, no?
what do you guys think? any ideas?

And the sad thing is that they didn't even learn from their previous mistakes. I mean cmon, same shit as BiB, are you serious? I feel so sad because the idea behind this was so good but the executions destroys it so badly.

|
I didn't watch BiB.
I'm currently in skype contact with one of them, so if you guys have any idea on the sound issues... feel free to guess
|
Some jack not really plugged in or a broken cable? ;o)
|
If that is true please relay to them that the sound issue is a grounding issue. Meaning that the electrical setup itself, how it's wired is sending feedback through the ground wire. This can be as simple as having a fan plugged into the same spot as the sound. How it's wired electrically is what is causing the problem. I have typed this out in chat sevral times.
|
@GPCyanide - Tell them to unplug the sound card, uninstall the drivers, plug-in the sound card and then install the drivers. If they have an internal one, try changing the PCI-E port (i have SoundBlaster and it also does this kind of noises, when put in to close to a graphics card). Also, my father's work is all about audio systems and he told me that it sounds like the cable was broken, so you should try changing the cables.
|
Looks like Mori will cast in english
or not

If you run a wire from a sound system in one room on 'ground loop A' across the hall into the streaming setup in another room on 'ground loop B' without disconnecting the grounding of the wire (through whatever audio technicans use), then these loops connect through the breaker box (or just along the powerline between different sockets) into a giant antenna and voltage bleeds into the audio, humming like crazy..
You really need to disconnect them or at least try to unplug one system and 'reverse polarity' by plugging them upside down, sometimes that's already enough to cancel the effect..
I had that issue at home while connecting a console to a audio system with power sockets that were right next to each other..was scary&loud as hell.. xD

I forwarded this... but these were first thoughts exactly yet they stated that they have unplugged everything... broken jack could be the issue but i dont see any fixing of that any time soon...
Personally I think they should have checked several hours beforehand.

That caster looks like a mix between Djwheat and Day9, lookwise.

As did I. In the example I used, I was the idiot who plugged his fan into the same power strip. It took me hours to figure out what was happening. When I did, I can not explain in words how mad I was.

NOOOOO where is da english stream
|
For some reason, the streams have no sound for me
|
This tournament is such a fail. Only german stream available and my ears hurt (no offense to germans, I just don't like how their language sounds).
|
Oh no, that's really bad! Well, I watch the german stream.
|
if they would at least play game sound or... like only plug in TBs mic in the streaming PC... but yeah it's a live event
|
so a streaming plattform sponsors this event and is not able to get the streams running. TT
|
So is this german guy at the site? I mean if u get one stream working shouldnt you prioritize an english caster on that one?

why not drive TB there?
|
Because TB is commentanting on the main stage
|
Is TB casting for a live audience too? Otherwise I dont get the choice to bring him to Germany for this. All the trouble setting up a stream when u could have an english caster to the same thing that this guy Mori is doing.
|
exchange the casters, it's a german audience at the venue anyway...
|
I second the opinion that this does sound exactly like a ground loop ("Brummschleife" is the German buzzword). You can verify this by measuring the frequency of the hum - it should be exactly 50Hz, the frequency of the alternating current in Germany.
If you can, get a trained sound engineer on site, ideally some older guy who has experience with the analog side of things. (As far as I know there is no simple fix to this, as it depends on the connections between the audio equipment, plus the details of the power wiring to each piece of machinery.)
Possibly workaround: filter out the 50Hz hum electronically in the digital sound stream. This will not eliminate it completely, but could make it much more bearable.
|
you cannot live filter the 50Hz issue via software - you need a simple hardware 50 Hz filter do surpass that problem, we/they are still working on it
|

Sorry, but this event is a joke. U want to charity some foundation with money from stream adds, when stream is lagging or without sound ? U should prepare everything 2 days before main event and test it. I want to tune in, but i need to forgive this event. Better would be if i donate directly one foundation than watching this stream without sound...
|
Someone should rescue that stream

Possibly workaround: filter out the 50Hz hum electronically in the digital sound stream. This will not eliminate it completely, but could make it much more bearable. Well, there are 2 'easy&dirty' possible fixes for that. =) One is to unplug the power of the computer and plugging it back in upside down, a very cheap try to cancel the hum, but it doesn't always work.
The other option is to physically disconnect the grounding of the audio wire, depending on the plug used, that can be as simply as wrapping a piece of tape around the bottom of the plug or pressing a button on the device. But it can cause a variety of other issue and usually isn't a good idea..
Aside from those last resort options, yeah the only solid way to actually fix it is a professional technican, who knows what he's doing and has the proper tools available to deal with it, but for some reason I doubt they have one available, as they haven't fixed it nor seem to know what's wrong, which seems quite obvious after hearing that they 'unplugged everything', but there's no point in unplugging things (which I assume as 'only audio wires', since the stream wasn't down long enough for a reboot), when you plug all connections back in, in the same way and don't isolate the connection that causes the issue.
Either way it sucks, for the people in the venue, because the waiting was boring and for the people at home, because nothing happens.. :/
|
I'm happy to see Tarson back at a good level
|
this is incredibly disappointing.
Especially with charities involved, this cannot happen.
|
I hope they at least let a random english caster cast it off-site. I don't really mind the german but i see no reason not to get in an english caster untill the local issues are fixed.
Also: Mori9's stream isn't lagging for me at all. Edit: It just started lagging for me >.<
|
I don't understand why they can't get an emergency caster not on site to join games and cast in English while they sort out TB's problem. It's a charity event ffs, anyone would do it.

Im so happy seeing TLO winning , and by watching the muted TB stream it looks like he is flirting with the girl

Good performance by TLO so far (better than I thought) and pretty entertaining games. I think he could have won the first game against Real but I really didn't think he'd win the first game against Tarson, so well done, sir.

Game 2 vs Tarson was just beautiful played. I`m not sure whether winning this cup qualifies for him getting shaved but maybe as a little reward he might trim his beard somewhat (to the level that he can eat tomato sauce again without making a mess)!

What an AWESOME play by Grubbster! He's definitely now one of the best tosses out there. So glad that he finally managed to up his game. Now I only hope we can see one day Grubby dominating same way as he did in WC3.

The warp prism + sentry micro to keep the ramp FF'ed was probably the coolest thing i've seen in a while. Grubby fighting!

So is it meant to be no sound on the tbo stream? where are you tb?

really unlucky game for TLO, he saw that warp prisms play coming and defended that Push with practically no units, by awesome decision making and still lost, because this sentry block is simply stupid ( and i say that as a protoss player ), still well executed by Grubby

If it is so easy to defend, it wouldnt be such a popular tactic. Zerg units are useless if they are split, and you cant stop the reinforcing, in my eyes, you shouldnt be able to warp in on creep, you cant build pylons there either!

GG TLO IS BACK! Probably the best game ive seen in a long time, TLO was so dead, but this ling runbys won him the game, also this Neutral Parasite on the Mothership, Vortexing the Protoss army, just priceless !

he had to push with the carriers after killing everything TLO had >_<
goddamn carriers @_@

Carrier would even lose to Ultralisks in a straight up fight :D

On February 05 2012 06:25 Tarotis wrote:Thats why you dont go for carrier Carriers were not the problem, the problem was that Grubby lost his mining expansions to ling runbys and was down like 2 or 3 bases....That could've happened with other compositions too.

5 cannons? np, ling runby nexus snipe.
5 spines? shit, no zealot hatchery snipes.
|
TLO won with that clutch NP on the mothership. Grubby was feedbacking the infestors in the wrong order, haha.
|
feels like the mothership is so crucial, being able to vortex the corrupters with archons around would make a huge difference.
Also a few phoenix could be helpful, graviton beam cancels neural parasite.

I don't wanna read through all these pages but is the TBO stream muted for everyone? and do you guys have lag issues with the special endrey stream as well? (LQ AND HQ)

Seems like TLO´s dedication is slowly but surely paying off. He showed some really impressive games today. That or maybe he just wants to get rid of the beard ^^.

I like how SpecialEndrey seems to completely shut off for a few seconds every other minute^^ The guy should definitely get some rest (as soon as the tourney is done of course).

Oh man, Endrey is really tired :D

No way he'll be still awake during the finals, they should really get him a co-caster... and a space heater.

Great fights by TLO (good flanks and he knows when to pull back) and also denying the third base for Grubby is really good for him.
|
Grubby had 1,6k mins @ 2 bases
|
What the hell is Grubby doing?
|
Yeah TLO! Happy to see him doing well!

nice comeback by TLO. I thought he was done after losing the 3rd.

hey what do you know, TLO still got it if he wants to..

TBO's stream has no sound because of technical issues, it hasn't had good sound for the entire event so I don't think it'll be fixed before it ends.
Watch Endrey's stream for english commentary or Mori09's stream for german

I don't hear commentary on Endrey's stream, only in-game sounds. >_>

I'd like to take the opportunity to say thanks to the orgas (dispite some horrible technical issues...), to the players, who agreed to participate for no revenue, and to the casters. Special thanks to Special Endrey, who sacrifed almost the entire day - out of the schedule - for making english commentaries possible. Always nice cast by him.
I saw some great games and a reasonable event. More charity in starcraft please!

Gratz TLO! Props to Endrey for casting under this circumstances!

i guess this tournament is only worth a trim :X
nice games, in particular the tlo vs grubby series (last game?), def. worth a watch!

I would have loved to get some impressions of the venue as well as TBs cast with some pros but nevertheless it was a very enjoyable event for me! Thanks to all the organizers and SpecialEndrey for his emergency cast.
|
I only catched the playoffs so it seems i didn't have to endure a lot of problems. Quite sad TBO-stream was without sound, but Grubby giving TLO his scarf was one of the cutest things ever anyways ^^ Hope the organizers learn from their mistakes and won't be flamed to much. The event was a great idea and it's simply unfortunate it turned out like that.
So: GZ TLO - you earned it big times
Thx for this cool charity tounament
And plz hurry to upload the VODs :D:D

hope there will be VODs of all the awesome interviews we could only watch without sound

GZ TLO nice to see him getting better. GL with the technical issues next time, shit happens. Thx to all the people how make it possible.

Missed the finals, need Vod!
Gratz TLO!

yey finally TLO won something
well played and i hope you will finally shave now
thanks also to the organizers and the other players for doing so much for charity

I feel like a criminal.
I want to apologize for the huge messup. I'm entirely responsible myself for all the technical issues. We got a fine sound signal out of the audio mixer for the on-site sound system and when connecting speakers or headphones instead of the 2 different sound cards we had on the production computer we also had a very clear signal there.
I still don't quite understand what happened, especially as when we tested it before we got a good signal into the computer. My biggest offence probably is that I tried to make the production work like it was planned to instead of realizing that it would be better to give up some parts but have the basics working. In the end the fixes we tried to do messed up the video production too anyways.
I could go into lengthy details what caused us to lose so much time that despite being at the venue since Thursday we couldn't get stuff done properly when it mattered, but in the end it comes down to mistakes on my side.
I'm so sorry for the players, Totalbiscuit, the audience and most of all the charities.. You deserved better.
I disappointed you.

Not really. And even if it were so, there is no need to kill yourself over it.
Please realize that you (and many other young entrepreneurs in this fledgling field of e-sports) are pioneers. You are actively shaping the future. Maybe not in a "save the world" way, but in a significant way, if you compare to "traditional" sports events, and the experience these can be for the competitors and for the audience. (Or if you are a hopeless cynic, look at the amount of money that is being shifted in the traditional sports market.)
As I said, you are a pioneer. Everything is new. There are no established routines, no traditions yet. There is no safe knowledge yet as to what works and what doesn't. Mistakes are bound to happen. If you were discouraged all too easily, we'd all be at a loss.

Having come over from the UK for my first SC2 tournament, I had an amazing time. It was great to meet everyone, watch the games, listen to the casters (and try to absorb all their knowledge through osmosis or something). Aurel is an amazing host and really generous. The guys at CK-99 were really accomodating, too. Thanks guys! I came for a particular reason, a project that Aurel and I were working on: StarGraphed. Sadly, due to the aforementioned technical difficulties and TB needing my laptop more than I did, I couldn't show it during the stream. However, I got the prototype working and learned the important information from it: - Any existing map can be modified. - Neither players nor casters experienced lag, even with the pretty heavy stat output - It didn't crash horribly
The Eagle Eyed among you may have seen, on Metropolis, some text output saying "Races: 1, 2" for example. Entirely my doing. I didn't upload the new version for that one that removed the debug text. Oops!
Antiga Shipyard didn't work and, stupidly, I made it rely on human interaction. That human being unreliable and really tired: me.
Therefore, we don't get output from all the games. However, We did get a few: Games 1 - 4 of the final (5 was on Antiga >:|) The awesome 40 mintute game between TLO and Grubby. A few others.
What this is: It is a stat capturing system for modified maps in SC2. The maps are modified to be identical apart from the outputting of information within the game. The idea of this prototype demonstration was to capture: Supply makeup, split into workers t1/t2/t3 (ish. Depends on the race, the legends explain the graph) A heat map of unit combat throughout the map. Unit deaths are recorded by the map and output for StarGraphed to interpret and create a heat map of where everything died.
This is all generated from the gameplay data within 20 seconds of the game finishing!
Introductory map for this: TLO vs Grubby Group Stage Game 3
Game 3 of TLO vs Real - TLO's Drone rush (What a game that was):
Game 2 of TLO vs Grubby (DESTRUCTION!):
Disclaimer: I know this one starts at 118/140 food. This is entirely my fault. Thankfully not much fighting had happened at that point.
Full album is available here.
I hope to work on this more in future, add some other features (ability to see only one persons kills in the heat map, allow it to fill in over time, etc)
I must thanks Aurel for taking the time even when organising the tournament to provide me with the maps to edit, and for doing the first draft of the map triggers.
I hope people enjoy seeing Star Graphed and very much hope that it is taken up and used in more tournaments.
Thanks again to Aurel, TotalBiscuit and Soe, as well as the people at CK-99 for running a great tournament. I look forward to going to another tournament soon!

This. I could not have said this any better really. I've only exclusively heard positive reactions about this amazing event.
I'd like to give a special shoutout to SpecialEndrey for being a boss and providing us with an English stream, eventhough he was severly sleep-deprived and was casting the HEAT charity event from a freezing cold back-office ( Oh the irony... ) You sir are a hero.
Also thanks to Mori for keeping the non-german speaking viewers updated at the start of the event, your English is not bad at all and honestly the accent only adds to the charm !
@ Gowerly : that is some really awesome stuff right there, very intresting ! :O

Don't feel like that. It is so awesome that you did this event and as i sad it's simply unfortunate that there were such problems.
I work as an IT-guy myself and I know how hard it is to identify and solve a problem on the spot. Especially when all the testing beforehands seemed to work.
Just try to look at it as a learning experience. You had an amazing idea and a lot of the production stuff was great and showed what passion you and the staff put into it.
I actually look forward to your future events - so stick with it!!

I am everything but dissapointed.
Working in the industry since 5 years and I can honestly say I have been doing a ton of bad events. That said I need to point out that this one really wasnt one of them. Sure, some things didn't work. Sure, it was annoying and I felt sorry for the guys at home who couldnt watch the stream they were looking for. But the people at the venue did everything they possibly could have done to try and fix it. U guys prepared for this event long in advance (also tested it beforehand etc.) and what counts the most, u put your heart into it, trying to make it the best u can because it was important to u and every single person here should do nothing other than appreciate your effort. Things just cannot always go right, thats how the universe apparently works.
All I can say is that I am grateful I got asked todo the hosting there, I enjoyed working with u guys at the first Heat tournament u asked me to, and the same applies for this one aswell despite the issues. You have done all you could to make it as nice as possible for everyone at home aswell as at the venue itself. There are things you can neither controle nor forsee and I am very sure the next event is going to be great!
I wanna thank everyone who has been patient and understanding, aswell as everyone who helped out or tried to help out, be it with a comment here on tl or otherwise.
And if there was only fucking (s'cuse me) 5 dollars of stream revenue and just a single donation, I'd say it was absolutely worth the effort because every single person..every single cent..and every event such as this one, makes a difference and helps the world aswell as our community.
Loads of blahblah, to get to the point: Thank you for the event and I personally hope for many more heat events to come!
ps: sorry for the typos, I am still tried lol
|
I'll admit, I was a bit annoyed with the delay at the beginning, thinking "why couldn't they test the f**ing sound beforehand ??". I just had to realize that I completely forgot about Murphy's law on the one hand and that it's all about charity on the other hand. Also, with the stream being for free, you don't have the right to be annoyed when a gift from somebody is not perfect
I think you all did a great show for the audience who paid their entrance fees and Special Endrey saved everyone's day who was watching the stream with his polar bear impersonation. Thank you for all your hard work, for everyone's patience and for this awesome tournament

Hey TBO,
I was there yesterday on site and in the end I really enjoyed it. I admit I get a little cranky when I have to wait somewhere for 2h and it doesnt start. Working in IT I know how it is and I know all the shit that can happen and will happen if you least expect it or need it too, but in the end on theses days im only a normal guy getting a little frustrated that again at a live event i have to sit in a chair for 2h. I applaud you for doing the interviews with TLO and TB to give us at least a little entertainment that helped and was nice. After everything started I had greart time yesterday. Even my gf who isnt really inte SC2 got really into it and enjoyed the evening. So maybe that gets your spirit up a little, you entertained a non Starcraft fan that evening. I admit the great TLO games helped
In the end all I wanna say is, I feel kinda sorry for being "mad" at you for all the waiting (it wasnt really personal directed at u, more a frustration about waiting ) yesterday and that it still was a great little tournement especially since TLO won something and I was F**** there We had a great time ....
PS.: I live in Berlin and seeing this was now the 2nd event I was at in berlin and recognized a lot of people from the first, is there a way to help? Id really like getting involved and lending u guys a hand with this sorta stuff.

Nah, you did well, Aurel.
There is only so much you can do, and given the circumstances you did all you could. I can attest to that because I was sitting right next to you, Schlumpfine, and Gowerly (awesome tech stuff btw, Mr Heat Map Guy! ) for quite some time. I'm glad I could help out some with updating the thread and assisting Schlumpfine.
Let me know if you need help for the next installment of HEAT or a similar event in Berlin.
Shoutouts to all the tech guys, Aurel, Marco, Schlumpfine, Gowerly, the CK-99 staff, the players for the great games they played, Soe for hosting and the great player interviews, TotalBiscuit for the relentless professional casting, Dennis a.k.a. TaKe for the guest casting, and Special Endrey for the impromptu casting from a freezing office! Well done!
Next time I will stay until the end again.
