I was asking that myself. Don´t think that´s fair. Although others might do that too, it´s not exactly smart to do that on Stream. I think, someone should have a word with them.

one can prevent hacking, but you cannot prevent what ret and haypro are doing. or do you wanna control how players get advice from their friends while playing sc2?

If one could prevent hacking why does it still appear and people win games with them? If you think Spades is the only person in Starcraft 2 who's hacked for tournament's, you're very naive.
It's not okay to have someone sit next to you and help you play in a tournament, no matter what.
Ret coaching haypro doesn't matter. If anything it was a distraction. That's why Haypro asked him to stop. It's hard to concentrate on the game when someone is telling you what to do. It's not like he was stream cheating or anything.

What's the difference exactly? If I have a maphack that spots drops for me, or if I have a friend who spots them for me? What if I have a pro friend who tells me when to take my gases, what units to make and when and where to defend, like ret was doing for Haypro?
On June 28 2012 01:37 nepeta wrote: Ret coaching Haypro, is that even legal ^^
Shouldn't be, pretty much cheating xD
Don't think it is a direct breach of rules though.
Don´t think so neither. But doing it on Stream somewhat reminds me of a stupid, unnecessary "not-foul" in football. When the ball will go outside anyway and it´s very close to a foul which would mean penalty. I sometimes feel that people deserve a yellow card there just for stupidity.

That was not was ret was doing. It seems you are intentionally trying to give people the completely wrong impression. Ret saw haypro playing and made a couple of simple comments. He didn't sit spotting for drops, or "coached". He stopped after about 1 min since it distracted haypro and it probably wasn't a good idea because of people like you.

That's exactly what ret was doing. I was literally hearing him telling Haypro there's a drop coming to his main, that he needs to take more gases, and that he should make corruptors. I didn't just pull that out of my ass. And he was doing it for a lot more than one minute. If anyone is fabricating things, it's you.

Currently though we are warning/discouraging players from doing this. I believe Hayder and Ret have stopped.
Haypro was ignoring most of Ret's tips anyway, never built any crawlers in his bases and got dropped like crazy. Still, Insanely fast response time, one day TL will regret having set the bar so high.
Oh, and can you confirm Rich having written a program to play protoss? Or did Haypro get another faux pas in there as well :p

tgun is currently 1-0 over KawaiiRice in Ro32 as well.

Really like this format with point qualifiers, makes for a lot more interesting qualifiers.
Interesting to see who is going to win this one now, I would say that all the big name players are pretty much out now. Maybe Protosser? Hope for Forsen though ^^

Terrans are starting to build a few bunkers on the low ground to stop zergs from spreading creep so quickly (now that they are all going mass queen). It's basically like map control with hellions, except stationary and less vulnerable to queens. Probably will eventually replace hellion openings eventually.
Oh God, I go off for lunch and come back to this. HuK, why.
Qualifier is so wide open right now, this is awesome. Will say though, if Haypro comes out with this given the past 2 days of Liquid results, I'm ready to drink whatever Kool-Aid they're drinking.
I have no idea how Mycerion advances so far every time. Kawaii played him yesterday and he seemed not very good. Has he ever taken down a notable player? I'm so confused by him :p

His PvT is his worst MU, which makes this a very fortuitous time to be qualifying.

Now I was surporised with how much tgun had given his number of bases, but facts remain kr let him come back.

Yeah but atleast nani and thorzain won qualifiers. Not to be a hater or anything but all mycerion does is getting through som rounds and never beating anyone notable and getting easy points. Still impressive that he manages to be more consistant than pro gamers like huk, machine and incontrol
What happened that game was KawaiiRice turtled on 3-4 bases and built a death ball of battle cruisers + vikings + ravens, and tgun was not able to stop it with infestors, ultras, zerglings, and corrupters.

Max out 1-2 times on corrupters and come in from different directions to reach maximum split. Infestors, though effective vs. a couple of BCs using NP, aren't that useful against mass BCs because a decent Terran is just going to aim them down with the BC one shot ability and EMPs. A maxed out BC + Viking + Raven fleet is very expensive and killing it once is game over for the Terran.

Balance whining is extremely annoying to read no matter what race is QQ'ing, back when zergs QQ'd all the time I found it annoying as hell (me being a zerg). Even if I agreed with it, don't QQ about it in every thread a zerg loses/wins terran win/loses protoss win/loses, etc. Just annoying to read and takes away any credit the other player got for winning even if he completely out played him anyway.

If the mycerion vs welmu series doesn't end up getting casted, you should all download the replays.
They are not allowed to cast the ro8 (in order to protect suspense I guess?).
At least, that's the theory. Some players regularly stream their ro8, or have their ro8 casted. Looks like they're following the rule today though, for a change.
So Mycerion has made his way into the top 8 and Welmu is likely in as well. Pink and Select are displaced. DBS, Bling, or ToD needs to take 2nd place today to have an effect, possibly knocking down Morrow or putting Morrow and Welmu in a tie for 8th place.

Btw., again just one zerg in the top 8, with three terrans being there. TvZ series in the top 32 4-2 in favor of terran atm. (I am not trying to whine here, I just want to stop the terrans from doing that as well.)

It's especially weird to look at the round of 8 with one zerg and don't look at round of 32 where there were 14 zergs and only 7 terrans. But I guess people in general just twist statistics until they look the way they want them to look. That's why I never trust them.

I have a basic understanding of statistics I would assume, but you have to beat them with their own arguments. This is irrelevant in any case, even if the sample size would be bigger, because of the cross server lag. But whiny terrans have been talking about every tourney sinc the buff, so it has to be mentioned against them as well.

what you are saying is to fight bad arguments with more bad arguments? why not construct something thats logically sound? do you not see how your approach just perpetuates more stupidity from terran whiners as well as anti-terran whiners?
and you dont have to tell me that there are other variables, i do realize this. but the sample size alone is enough to discredit your statements.

It´s not about the arguing itself, of course something logically sound is more usefull in the actual discussion about balance. But my first post is not looking to say smth. about the balance, it´s more to get a little bit of revenge for the annoyment of the last weeks. Anyway, I think we both agree about the actual relevance of the "statistics" here, so let´s just watch the games from now on.

Tbh, his SC2 history of constantly ditching teams (and not in a very graceful manner) is enough to make his potential future employers wary of the prospect. Plus, he doesn't have an endearing personality, and no major results to speak of. He'd need some very convincing tournament showings (like, qualifying for Code A at minimum) in order to override the stink surrounding him, imo.

He didn't really DO anything particularly notorious. He can be a bit of a dick, and western teams tend to be a bit whiny and obsess about their "image" and "professionalism". When people talk about him on forums one could get the impression that he did god knows what in his dark, dark past. -_-

Its not really risky to cheese game 1 though. Especially on Daybreak.
Either way he is playing standard this game, but he has put Welmu on edge which will keep him cautious for the rest of the series.

It's a korean build. Usually you only get 3 tanks and that keeps you safe against all 2 base warp-gate allins, but since Juan saw fast collosus, I'm guessing he thought it was a good idea to make a few more to supplement the vikings before switching to full bio.

There's a reason why no serious team wants him at this point, bro.
Has he done anything recently? I know he's done a lot of... less than stellar things in his past. Its such a shame that he's fucked over by what he did when he was what 15/16?
He left ROOT/got kicked out - bunch of drama Some additional drama with ONE/GoSu cause he was supposed to join them but didn't or some shit Leaves sixjax - sixjax dies a week later, people start shitting on him again for some reason Joins xSix - leaves saying he has a new team, now teamless
It's funny that people think that he's bad. You can poke fun at his team-hopping and his awkward behavior but there's one thing that's certain, kid is fucking good at starcraft.
I knew all of that stuff, the last thing I know about him is that he had been in the TSL house for a period of time and then left. I haven't heard anything bad recently
EDIT: I still remember when he was at MLG and I think Clutch asked if he wanted to say anything to his fans "I don't think I have any"
Are you sure? Because I saw Naniwa say that exact thing to that exact question at MLG.
Also he is not "fucked over by stuff he did when he was 15/16", but stuff he's doing at his current age.
what has he done lol. a lot of foreign pros have done shady stuffs, major just gets more shit because he doesnt do a good job of hiding his mistakes
Well if Major had the upgrades the game would have looked so different so. Welmu played very well tho responding to every drop Major did which was very very good.

I have no idea, ask the teams that doesn't want to keep him around. I doubt there's some sort of vendetta against him where the teams he's been on parts way with him for no reason at all.
iirc major said to his viewers in his stream chat that he was going to join one of the broodwar teams switching over, and that the coach/players all liked him etc etc but kespa wouldnt let him

Yeah, I need Welmu to win this, otherwise he'll have over 160 points meaning he'll take up a spot in the top eight which could otherwise go to HuK after a few decent finishes in the next few qualifiers from HuK
Now this one looks like the opening Byun did vs HerO on Daybreak.
Hellion drop into cloak expo and tanks after.
Wonder if he'll try marine/tank too xD

Didn't see what he scouted (if anything) but if you know there's lone marines out on the map and you've seen a gas chances are there's probably a drop or banshee headed to your main at that kind of timing.
Man Welmu did play really really well this game. Holding off all those drops all the time and still coming out with the bigger armé. Hes playing really well here.
When he goes bio on stream he rolls through Code A-S players on KR ladder, I can understand tanks on a map like Cloud or Entombed but on Ohana? If that was equal supply in marauders he would have won ><
On June 28 2012 07:38 Obelisco wrote: No Combat shields with marine/tank against colossus and losing all the vikings lost him the game
yeah losing all those vikings wasn't good at all for Major lol. And the slow upgrades wasn't good either;[
well i guess slow upgrades were kinda compensated by killing the forges, but he wasnt even researching combat shields, my guess is that he forgot them or lifted off his tech-lab barracks before it finished
If Goody doesn't go double fact siege tanks in TvP anymore, there is a good reason noone should Also donated vikings and around 2 tanks that never got produced due to the factory being stuck. But I believe in Princess,go go proxy marauders for the final win!!!

Byun fucking STOMPED through both Protoss in his group by using 2 rax siege timings into 2 factory marine medivac timings on 2-3 bases. It seems to be all execution, idk if it was nerves or what, but especially without CS MajOr stood no chance in those engages.

Byun did it once vs HerO on Daybreak (the same build Major tried then)

That's because the byunjwa is the best player ever he can do anything he wants and win.
After the previous game I definitely wouldn't put my forges in a similar spot. Isn't it better to put them somewhere between the bases instead of risking them at the edges where Major could drop and snipe?
Yeah, when MajOr doesn't lose games with tanks this series turns pretty one sided, really like Welmu's PvP but his PvT isn't up to MajOr's macro and multitasking in standard compositions.

Between the main and the natural is a safer spot, but almost certain to get scanned. Stuff on the edges is more vulnerable to drops, but less likely to get spotted. Guess it depends on what you care about more.
Majors viking control this series has been awful, but it is really late where he is so I can understand it. I bet he won't make those mistakes in the actual TSL ( I think he's got this game so far)
This game is pretty intense actually. Drops everywhere, good engages from both players. Welmu still holding the drops off. A lot of back and forth here. silsol like<3

meh major is so fast he gets sloppy as weird as it sounds, he really should work on playing clean hes already faster than some top kr pros..
On June 28 2012 07:52 Shellshock1122 wrote: TvP is major's worst MU right?
Historically yes, by far lol. His TvT has always been his best, and his TvZ is very solid, even in the late game. He tends to push engagements too far in TvP just to end the game quick.
On June 28 2012 07:52 Shellshock1122 wrote: TvP is major's worst MU right?
It appears so, on an unrelated note I took another look at his statistics he's actually got a 75% win rate internationally in TvT which came as a massive shock to me (I imagine it's heavily inflated by mediocre NA terrans though).

What? People are essentially saying Major must be tired because it's inconceivable to make such big mistakes for a high level player... He's not "so so good" regardless, more like "so so" :D
This is really old school (For SC2) but major reminded me of tankboyprime and ogslittleboy this series, for what it's worth their harass was always excellent but when push came to shove with the big fights they screwed up and died.

WOW what was Welmu waiting for seriously?! He could of won that game so much earlier. Well i can understand why he sits back and doesn't want to make that much of mistakes but wtf? Well he played really well in this serie. I really thought Major was gonna win this serie but i was wrong. Gj Welmu.
Such a surprising winner with all the other names in the qualifier but these are the kinds of winners I like to see. Congratulations to Welmu and NT from Major.
And, of course, shout out to the new peoples champion mycerion for another good event.

We are now at the point where coming 2nd won't be enough to keep you in the top 8, so people will really have to keep winning extra points if they want to keep their placement.

You should really play as many EU qualifiers as you can as well for the points. 2nd place gets you high, but you can't depend on it.

Yes, also LaLush and DarkForce are almost certain to participate in the TSL4.

If you add points leaders it's:
10 zergs, 11-12 protoss, and 3-4 terran plus 7 more direct winners.

I was rooting for you mate. You still played very well despite the circumstances. Looking forward to seeing you making it deep in tournaments again!
Sad for Major, I really would've granted him the tsl4 qualification. But where would the world be, if a EU player allows a player from the NA server to win the open TSL 4 qualifiers? ;-)
The second place is great nonetheless for Major. With the 100 points under his belt, he still has a realistic chance to make it. And incredible performance by Welmu considering how little known he was before!
Wooot! Grats Welmu! That significantly helps the chances of anyone just below the top 8. Having a 160+ point player in the top eight woulda been tough.

I was cheering for you, so please keep trying. You forgot combat shields, you went too long without upgrades, your viking control was terrible, your drops didn't do enough and you didn't stop even when Welmu was well prepared, and your banshee control wasn't great either. What happened?, that's not the Major I know. Lag is one thing but you played like you haven't slept in a week.
Please keep trying and we'll keep cheering you on.

Happy for Welmu though, I watched him lose to ret in rather heartbreaking fashion a couple of qualifiers ago in a series he should've won, afterwords he said nvm, I'll win the next one, and he kinda did, gratz!

Edit: And don't give me any elfi bull crap
Elfi... Have you seen his friggin' pvp? :D
Is it really that good though? He seems to have 4 gate builds down to millisecond perfection, (which isn't exactly inspiring to watch) and whenever he tries anything else he just he just seems distinctly average. Admittedly I haven't really seen anything from him since winter 2011 so maybe he's changed it up since that. Last game I saw him play was his last game for Acer in the IPL:TAC, that was a PvP and he was totally bested.

Cool for Welmu but bad for the SC2 scene whenever a shady organization like "Eclypsia" gets one of their players into a tournament, that actually gets some attention.
