You're pretty stupid.
Just because they aren't big names doesn't mean they're any worse. I want more exposure for lesser known players is all.
They're lesser known for a reason lol
Because GSL has a limited player pool and extremely tough format.
Yeah, and only the best qualify
Well lets look at coca for instance. He is having trouble qualifying but he is beating code S players in team leagues/showmatches and what not. It's insanely hard to get through a qualifier so no a lesser known player could be super good but just can't get through the qualifier. Every GSL player has commented how hard it was (even the top tier code S players like drg have commented how hard it is).

Wow only 2 protoss in round of 16 (a bit funny, yesterday only 3 zergs in ro16 en the day before only 1 terran in ro16). But i guess it is ok, hope a terran or zerg wins, already a lot op toss in TSL4. Although i am usually for protoss
Why did HerO not take part in this playing from TLHQ in NYC as it was announced on TLpro.com? NASL is only in two days and he's been in North America since before last weekend because of IPL FC HIN which he won. Was the cross-server lag this bad?
This was his last chance to acquire the necessary points to take part in TSL4 which is now gone. Sigh.

Because he would have to wake up super early to play in the qualifier, there is a huge difference in time between Korea and North America. Better for him to just sleep in and be well rested for NASL at this point.

Because he had to be at NASL at noon today which meant the only possible flight was during the qualifiers.
Seed is out of the qualifier and needs help to stay in on points. Life could get in on points even if he loses in quarters if Hyun/Squirtle gets 1st and Hyun/Squirtle/Keen/Polt get 2nd. Sniper, Top, and Inori need 1st or 2nd. Keen and Polt need 1st.
Edit: Removed Gumiho who was in by mistake, thanks Kieofire

We should have a showmatch between ClouD and KingKong. Both got points in nearly every qualifier, neither qualified, because they usually went out in the Ro32.. T_T

TL releases replays once a round has finished(When everyone in that round have played their games). They are casting thoes
OH that makes more sense. So starting from the quarters, they're casted live, and right now they're just casting replays to fill the time. And this is because they can't possibly cast so many concurrent games live!
Thanks ^^
Sigh, probably going to have to wake up for the results then

No, they cast all the games from replays(Wouldnt make sense to make the koreans wait to play it out, the matches would ennd around 6 AM KST)

According to Liquipedia, the top 5 are already guaranteed. That is Hack, HyuN, First, CoCa and Squirtle. I'll assume their math is correct. The only one in danger as far as points go is Seed.

Polt vs. TOP a year later after their two epic semifinal series. Back then, it was the classic battle of S-Level Micro/Bad Macro vs. S-Level Macro/Bad Micro. A year forward, Polt has upped his macro to being one of the best. Let's see if TOP's control has gotten better.
One this is for sure: TSL has BY FAR the best downtime music of any tournament. I'm enjoying the time between games nearly as much as the games. Games are over? Turn up the volume! :D
Saying that a zerg likes lategame is one of the most meaningless statements bandied about these days. Squirtle needed to switch to gateway units. no way in hell that corrupter army can be dealt with. Gotta switch between vortex archon style/ carriers i supposeish.
Even though he lost he made Carrier/HT look ridiculously strong just now. I definitely think that has potential if you can keep your econ alive while making the switch.
I love how P players start using units (mamaship, carriers) when blizzard announces they will disappear in the next expansion. Mothership was saved, but it's probably too late for the carriers.
I really think that if Carrier took less time to build that transition might be viable. Then you could feasibly switch between gateway style armies + HT and air based armies + HT. I really wish Blizzard would just try something.

We, terran, have the sameproblem with Ravens and somewhat BCs. Blizzard really should do something about the build times or things like that, it would really help a lot.

That focus-fire on the retreating Brood Lords did look pretty deadly. It took a long time for them to reload for each volley though so I can understand why they're less effective when left to their own devices and opposed by anti-air.

its just too hard to do that though... The only real way to keep your econ alive while making the switch is if the zerg just never attacks you with his bl corruptors....
Carrier build time is to long, especially considering you need atleast 4-5 of them to do anything not to mention without upgrades they are shit. So you have to have time to build around 5 and get air upgrades for them to be able to 'look good'

The problem with SC2 carriers in comparison to BW carriers is twofold, first, that they can't be microed effectively because interceptors return to the carrier when an order is issued and second, launch range is really short.
Oh also, interceptors do not recharge shield when they return to the carrier, which makes them really easy to kill, particularly by marines.

Yes, unless TOP gets second place, then TOP qualifies
Looking at the numbers, the only way Life would be unable to qualify is if Sniper wins it and TOP comes second? Please correct me if I'm wrong. I can't see another scenario. But if that happens, both Seed and Life would have less points than TOP at 133 to Life's 131... Still a lot that can happen here.
Edit: Or the other way around, TOP first and Sniper second. Man, these scenarios make my head spin
After Life's win, Seed is #7 in points. He can still get in if: Life/Hyun get 1st to free a spot, and Life/Hyun/Keen/Polt get 2nd so Seed is still #6 in points

Since I never played RA2 apart from the Campaigns, what was the overall problem with the V3?
On-topic: Does anyone have something similar to this for this qualifier?
Nothing, they just said at some point they had in thoughts of introducing a some long range artilery unit, which had longer range than a siege tank to break siege lines. That unit just comes up in my head as long range artilery unit

tbh it sounds like SuperNova has plenty of offers but not one he feels is acceptable yet. He mentioned wanting to be on a particular team but given he's still not signed perhaps they won't meet what he's asking.

I think that SuperNoVa probably doesn't have a team because he's holding out for a better offer. He's better than every Terran on a foreign team, apart from maybe Taeja, so they want him but he probably wants more than they're offering him.

He's only been playing for 6 months though and we keep hearing from people that he's actually the best Zerg in the TSL house, which is very impressive considering that means he's better than Symbol and Shine in practice.
Also Zerg is probably the race where experience has the biggest impact on your ability, because Zerg has to play reactivity to their opponent more often than the other races.

He beat Hyun 2-0 in the IPL5 International Qualifiers. But Hyun beat him 2-0 in one of the former TSL4 qualifiers when Polt seemed to be losing every first round to random people.
I think Apollo is being too harsh on Keen for leaving the opening for a third for Hyun.
With the rocks up and banshees + hellions I think you can be a real nuisance if you let him try take it and then go deny it with your cloakshee and hellion support =)

Interesting that Hyun is playing what I guess I'd consider to be a somewhat old fashioned style (2 base muta into double expo)

Korean TvT has always stick to marine/tank vs marinetank, because they both would die if they try to transition into air play.

What i see just as concerning about the point system is the fact that if keen and sniper meets in the final. Sniper has all incentive to lose, since if he wins he will advance and life will get 6´th spot by points(and keen wont get a spot). But if he loses he will qualify by points and keen will also qualify
Still tho, same scenario just in the final. This is pretty much the reason why i dislike the point qualifier

I'm fairly new to Starcraft, and I haven't watched a lot of the top Koreans before. So everything is exciting and new and boner Amanda-inducing! I really liked Keen's play there though and I'm still cheering for him so we can get another awesome TvT!

Now that ZvT has normalised to a degree in Korea, you're gonna love the GSL, its all the top Korean pros and most of the games are amazing.

a) welcome to Starcraft and TL
b) welcome to the exciting world of korean starcraft!
c) be sure to try catch some of the GSTL in the next 2 days if you haven't before, team leagues are awesome fun!

Keen is certainly pretty awesome too, though I'm not sure how much I fancy his chances on Daybreak xD

Anyone know A: Why they are using that "addon" or whatnot that Orb used in the Korean Weekly and B: Will they use the same for the actual TSL tournament? I guess to each his own but I really can't stand it apart from baneling fireflies
Everytime I watch Hyun I see him get crazy leads with his incredible mechanics... only to lose spectacularly with equally terrible late-game decision-making.

I've played and watched a bunch of strategy games, board and computer, but not Real Time, so it's all new to me in some ways. I've watched about half of Day9's archive though and I'm starting to develop a sense of what's happening. I still suck really hard as a player though, but what's awesome about SC2 is that even if you can't play it well, as you learn the game it's a pure pleasure to watch. The depressing part is starting to play in Bronze league, watching brilliant intense macro games and then play against only four gates and mass void ray ;D

Winner of Sniper/Life is in on points. If Life wins the whole qualifier, another spot opens for Seed gets in on points Polt and Keen must win to get in
winner, 6th in points 1st life , 2nd polt life , seed 1st life , 2nd keen life , seed 1st sniper, 2nd polt sniper, life 1st sniper, 2nd keen sniper, life 1st polt , 2nd sniper polt , sniper 1st keen , 2nd sniper keen , sniper 1st polt , 2nd life polt , life 1st keen , 2nd life keen , life
==================================================== If Hyun > Keen:
sniper/life polt/hyun
hyun is already in on points Life is in unless Polt wins and Sniper gets 2nd place Sniper can get in with 1st or 2nd Polt must win to get in Seed can only get in by: - Life wins and Polt/Hyun in 2nd place - OR: hyun wins, Life 2nd place
winner, 6th in points (and 5th if hyun wins) 1st sniper, 2nd polt sniper, life 1st sniper, 2nd hyun sniper, life 1st life , 2nd polt life , seed 1st life , 2nd hyun life , seed 1st polt , 2nd sniper polt , sniper 1st polt , 2nd life polt , life 1st hyun , 2nd sniper hyun , sniper, life 1st hyun , 2nd life hyun , life , seed

When I was just getting into Starcraft discovering the GSL was the greatest thing ever, you can watch the first match from each game for free without a subscription on the gomtv website.
Also the strategies are irrelevant now, but I think you should go and watch ThorZaIN's matches from the last TSL, every series is worth watching imo, but I am a huge ThorZaIN fanboy.
Gotta love TSL-Zergs style. The first time Symbol caught my eye it was like exclusively banelings, infestors and ultras xD Damn I wonder why more terrans don't put a tank on ramps, awesome.

I'll vouch for that. Though I still prefer MKP, he has the occasional game where he just rolls over his opponents, and it's true that you can't go wrong with Stephano vs Polt
HyuN simply got too wasteful with his Lair tech army, and would constantly attack up that choke. Despite his amazing mechanics, he still needs to learn some basic decision-making and army positioning.

If Seed was a Zerg he would totally go mass changelings to get a Terran with sensor towers out of position.
Life reminds me of Nestea's 2011 ZvZ, just flawless understandings of timings and perfect decision making. Great to watch him just roll an opponent like that.

It's more a question of won't rather than can't. The best GSL players have not bothered, except for a few tries at first place, simply enough.

Many have tried, most get beaten pretty early in the brackets. Almost every notable GSL player participated in the first three qualifiers.

Polt vs Seed.. tough choice
who am I kidding. Life win GOGO!
Piss on that, both of these terrans are AWESOME!
That said, hard to pass up on the tempting possibility of a person going for the double crown of GSL and TSL, and as Naniwa lost last night I guess seed is the last chance for that... Although I suspect this TSL will overlap GSLs so it might not matter. And come on Keens ceremonies in 2011 and Polt's general awesomeness are too hard to pass up on!

I wouldn't go as far as to say that. When it was THE ONLY matchup played for three rounds in the GSL (Quarters, Semis, and Finals) it got to be a little bit boring for seeing the same thing.
Still, right now it's certainly a breath of fresh air.

Sure they tried, but not trying to win by points. As an example, NesTea and DRG only played once. After all, coaches know that there are players that both can win and want to go. I guess the TSL just doesn't hold as much weight in Korea as it does over here (prestige wise).
480p doesn't lag at all for me. Not the best quality, but for the price of $0 it's a good deal and I'm not gonna complain. And yes, one more Keen I'd love to see more of your TvZ!
I love that we got to see both those styles of TvT, the slow, methodical and careful version and Keen's very aggressive style.. And even some mech Lovely!
That was beautiful. Keen's tank positioning was smooth as eggs, never unsieging everything, always making sure to keep 4-5 tanks sieged in the back in case of flanks, having thors in the front to tank damage... what can I say, Keen makes me want to play terran

"Legitimate" as in it works and isn't a stupid "I can't be bothered playing this game, I'll just 6pool" strategy these days.
Aside from that, I'm not sure why being able to cheese greedy play is bad.

Yeah life can be risky/cheesy doesn't matter for him he's in no matter what. I would be playing all relaxed if I knew I 100% was going in the TSL4
Life was risky and cheesy in GSL when all was on the line for him. Its just his style.

I wouldnt say legitimate but abusive play. Works only because of actual metagame, requires 0 skill, provides 0 entertainment. All we want in a RTS game.
It's just plain ol' cheese, nothing especially abusive about it. Beats greedy builds, loses to safe ones. Imo, roach/bling busts are a lot worse in this respect, because they transition easily after doing a modicum of damage and straight-up kill a whole bunch of openings.

Yeah but like this? 3 games in a row 2 6 pools. Pretty sure he just doesn't give a fuck right now.
What a waste of time. I shouldn't have bothered watching after realizing that Life qualified. I knew he'd be a douche and waste the games. I hope he loses first round in TSL 4.
Ugh. After such epic finals yesterday this was pretty disappointing. Still, congrats to both Keen and Life for qualifying with their strong play today.

Because in that case it must suck to be Seed right now.
Keen deserves it for the close series against Polt
These games were probably really late at night by the time it came to the finals and Life had no real incentive of winning except if he really wanted a bit of extra cash.

Nah nani was just BM, particularly considering that tournament was more than anything something for the fans. Life was probably trolling Seed

During the entire tsl4 qualifiers stream has not been very smooth in fact slightly choppy. Im hoping this gets ironed out before the actual tourney begins. Games are far to awesome to allow little things(choppy streaming) take away from them.
Well at least this gives us another terran in the tournament and a good one at that. It feels weird to say that, but I would not have liked to see even more protoss in the tournament, even though I play protoss myself.

The problem with that is dqing people for poor play is a slippery slope.
6-pool against a terran is not a bad strategy once in a while. Proberush against Zerg is not, however. Even if you don't care, it could still be a winning move if your opponent isn't prepared for it so yes, poor play shouldn't be enough to DQ

There was one thrown series in 15 qualification tournaments. The format is fine.
Little uncomfortable watching those games to be honest. I can understand Life just not giving a damn given that he was already qualified but it must REALLY suck to be Seed right now given that Life literally just handed Keen the place ahead of him.

He was already qualified. It would be a joke if keen got #2 and squirtle got in from doing nothing.
Squirtle is already in. And those with points haven't done nothing, they've participated in the other 4 KR qualifiers. That's why the points system exists.

I'm pretty sure the 6pools were part of Life's game plan. There IS incentive for him to carrying on playing, you can an extra $50 more. I'm sure that doesn't seem like a lot to you folks, but I'd definitely play for more money.
And didn't you see Life's Code A games against VINES? He Nydus Worm rushed Game 1 and 6pooled Game 2. This is obviously something Life incorporates into his style.
Don't want to have games like these? Get a qualifier format that doesn't lead to situations like this. Blaming players for not giving a shit about meaningless games is stupid as hell.
Realistically though, this happens in all sorts of competitions all around the world, including ones of a profile much higher than any SC2 tournament. It's like half of TL has never followed any other sport ever, and are suddenly shocked and appaled that a match that is meaningless for one of the parties can influence the standing of others in the tournament.

I like how the Korean qualifier finals was really, really bad, but the EU-NA qualifier finals was insanely good. Fraer and Major both played an amazing best of five, while Keen and Life played the absolute worst best of five I have ever seen. Kinda wish players would not play like that even if there is nothing on the line. Naniwa got a lot of shit for doing something similar in the GSL. You would think players would avoid that after they saw Naniwa's punishment.

Wrong
do you really need to be given a list of famous losses in history to multiple same-cheeses?
Anyways, this is karma payback for the time Keen had to hope Oz beat YuGiOh in the Up and Down matches, but Oz - who already qualified - fucked around with a random strategy and knocked Keen into Code A for a whole season.

People make it like Life just committed a sin or something. He was in the position where he can choose who can go through, if he chooses Keen, that's fine, Seed has no saying whatsoever in this. This game is not like Nestea vs Naniwa where 2 players can't change any results.

no way mayne, Keen got payback PLUS. Making TSL4 is one bazillion times more important than qualifying for GSL "Code Stinky".
I think it was pretty obvious that Life did not care after Game 3. He will do all-ins against protoss from time to time, but never against terran or zerg. This was very very odd to see from him, and it's a safe assumption that he threw the matches for any number of reasons (too tired, knew he was qualified anyway, had to go to school, etc.).
If it was matchfixing between the two players, then there was no reason why Keen should have lost Game 2. He could have easily walled off his ramp and claimed it was a safe reactored hellion expand.
I understand that people are upset because the games were mostly ass (and we want to be entertained) but unless there was blatant evidence of matchfixing, you can only accuse Life of playing like ass. Which he undoubtedly did. I don't think he was even aware of how it would bump Seed out of the qualifiers' circle.

Maybe you can pull 2 cheeses off in a round of a lot. But in the finals you wont take the risk to get cheesed twice on the same way (as you see in how keen did it). Anyhow both life and keen deserved to qualify, only really unlucky for Seed that it has gone this way.

But honestly, the word abusive is used too much and has lost any sort of meaning. I don't think that abusive is the right term to describe 6 pooling in the current ZvT metagame to counter the majority of Terrans going CC first.
What Byun did to NesTea in Game 1 of their most recent Code S series, that was abusive. I love Byun and he's certainly not the only one at fault (GOM should have done a better job to prevent that), but abusing the fact that there was no neutral supply depot is abusive play. That's not how the game is supposed to function.

GSL is deff most prestigious, but there's a special quality about TSL, it only happens once a year I believe, and literally the whole community will be watching.
why did the zergs all in ? as if they didn't want to play? esp the polt vs zerg games.
Life was already guaranteed a spot in the tourney based upon being #1 in the TSL points, so that was why he chose to all-in. Can't speak for the other Z players.
Grats to Keen, however seeing that Life only needed ZvP and ZvZ to advance to the finals, while Keen had to play mostly TvZ before, it doesn't really surprise me that he eventually won. Nevertheless great performance!

Yeha im curious about that too ...
I was wondering if it was thinkable to let them play on the NA server. Since the lag is manageable from the 2 other regions. It's kind of a neutral, middle ground too. :D
