FXO / FXO players will always win when they are considered the underdog. And always lose when they are considered the favourite. That's the curse / gift they got.
FXO always lost to Prime prepatch on WoL. Then they won everytime. Time to crush these little kids MKP :D, reminds Leenock why he wasn't able to beat you.
MKP getting an all kill is possible. He crushed Seed like he was nothing in that showmatch. Even saw a few games of him offracing as toss against Tfunk/Thorzain in Thorzain's HOTS ladder stream and beat him as well. FXO gonna have a hard time against him unless they got someone prepared to snipe him.

Expecting to see Lucky, Choya/Grubby/TheBest/Kong/Acou, Gumiho, Tear (probably roughly in that order) for FXO, MarineKing, ByuN/Classic/Lucy, Creator, Maru for Prime.
Never underestimate FXO in GSTL. They actually care about it. FXO has this. Hopefully we'll finally get to see some Zergs tonight(can't believe I'm saying that. lmao).
I accidentally picked FXO without thinking about it. Then some hours went by, and I realised Prime's prominents position on the HotS ladder. Kinda still in WoL mindset here... Prime is probably the on paper favourites, but I will be crossing fingers for a choke, and FXO winning. :p

Yea but since Leenock got out on the round of 32, he's probably got the chance to play quite a bit of hots

Leenock still has a tough Code A match ahead of him though since he's playing Yonghwa and he's going to IPL6 so he cant really devote as much time to HoTS as he probably would like
I'm wondering what the story of that last song is because the music video doesn't really... make a ton of sense, despite looking like it kinda told one.
So long as zerg units are terrible in small amounts, and so long as the meta game is to be aggressive from a very early period in the game then there is very little chance of zerg winning.
On February 17 2013 14:16 Havik_ wrote: What about Zerg makes them underpowered in hots? I find it very hard to believe that Zerg is UP with how WoL has been for the past year.
Zerg is just too strong in wol because of how well there units work in massive quantities, and there able to get there very easily because of fungal + queens.

P and T both got new early-game toys, which are very powerful. Z didn't.
earlier today there were 3 Prime Terran accounts as the top 3 spots on the ladder as well as another Terran account called PRIME at about 130 in GM and then the LucyPrime protoss account is pretty highly ranked too
MKP opens CC first against Lucky's hatchery first. MKP goes for reactored hellions while Lucky gets some roaches and burrow. Lucky rushes MKP with a few roaches and he has to pull SCVs to hold. Lucky uses his burrow heal to remain in the base, and he manages to kill 16 SCVs. MKP moves out with marine-maruader-hellbat but Lucky has too much defense at home, so MKP retreats and techs up at home. Lucky pressures MKP with roaches again, and has some cute moves to minimise MKP's widow mine defense. However, MKP has too much bio at home and he pushes Lucky back.
MKP drops Lucky's main base with turbovacs and does minimal damage, scouting Lucky's new third. MKP takes out the third base, but Lucky counterattacks with his roaches. A small basetrade situation occurs but MKP's army does much better than Lucky's, killing Lucky's bases faster than MKP loses his own. Lucky GGs!

his decisions were base race or fight that army which wouldve resulted in a massacre
Why is Lucky the one of the first Zergs to use a burrowed Roach to follow an army?
Lucky made some bad decisions that game, but he also did a lot of things that -every- Zerg should do but doesn't do. (Well every Zerg who upgrades Burrow movement anyway)

First game I watched in HotS. Very interesting. Is there anywhere I can find changes in HotS? I couldn't care less how things have transitioned during beta. So, it would be nice if there is a list of changes "directly" from current WoL patch. I heard there have been something like 15 patches so far, but earlier patches must be irrelevant at this point.

Issue isnt about hellbats/marauder here, it's about Zerg early aggression being irrelevant

Its about zerg early units being useless early game.
Who's rank #3 on HotS ladder right now? He has the same clan tag as MaruPrime and KTFlash, and plays Terran. Another Prime player? Maru or MKP's smurf?
Edit: LOLOLOL completely forgot about Byn, it's probably Byun.

MarineKing opens CC-first but Choya delays it and kills 2 SCVs with his probe scout. Choya opens with gateway-cycore-nexus, getting a mothership core. MKP follows up with a third inbase CC. Choya goes up to six gateways and moves out. Choya's attack is a bit too much and MKP has some MKP GG timing.

Lol MKP encourages BM by staying in games as long as he does. If he gg'd at appropriate times there wouldn't be an opportunity for his opponent to BM him

its almost insulting to the other player that he thinks he can win with 9 supply by rebuilding everything at his natural while 60 army supply ravages his main

Tbh, it would have been a fine unit if it was an actual new unit and not a form of the hellion. At least it would be less mobile. Just imagine when pro gamers actually will transform them all the time, a nightmare will occur.

Its like 5 times the size and longer though lol, and the slow is so much that it may as well be an immobilize.

Lol no
At least Blizzard is trying to balance the Hellbat out unlike the Warhound. They barely did anything with it and just removed it. Warhound suffered the same fate the Carrier did except for the fact that the Warhound isn't coming back.

I think it looks okay for now. It's not a spammable ability and it doesn't completely stop movements, so you can't really chain it either. I know you're not talking specifically about this game, but mkp would've lost even without time warp anyway.

Yes, with forcefields early on, it sure feels like too much. Later in the game with ghosts etc. it is probably not such a big issue.

That´s why in GSL you need to prepare for your opponents. It´s like in boxing. If you know the strengths/weaknesses, you need to use them against your opponent. Choya has always played very aggressive and MKP should know that, Choya and MKP have a long history together.

I am speechless. Keep giving Z and P spells like this that cancels micro. At least give terran one to even it up.....
It does not matter if you have crazy micro like MKP. Time warp will negate that. Blizzard And I am sure people want to see good micro, it is entertaining to watch, but how can they with time warp?

But only one unit casts it- you cant have 10 mothership cores. Plus there is a big difference in how you can use this- it is a great spell which can be used very effectively or terribly depending on how good your micro is. It gives a lot of oppurtunities for defense and punishes you for engaging incorrectly

I just think that "punishing greed" is an overused meme and Koreans/high tier foreigners mostly play a balanced range of builds the way a poker player would balance a range of bluffs and strong hands.
That said, it's still an RTS and not poker and you're right about MKP's scouting.
Choya starts by cannon-rushing TerrOr's natural hatchery, forcing a cancel. TerrOr stays on one base and goes for nydus tech, but it's immediately scouted by Choya. After a few failed attempts, TerrOr has to GG out.

I tend to agree, but I think it does apply in this case. To speak generally, MKP bluffs A LOT and when people call his bluffs, he gets burned often.

Choya opens up with a proxy gateway in the middle of the map, while Maru goes for barracks and gas. Choya moves in with two zealots and the probe, and Maru holds well with the SCV pull. Choya follows up with oracles and Maru goes for widow mine drops, but Choya's phoenix minimises the damage. Maru gets double CC while Choya expands at home.
Suddenly a widow mine drop in Choya's main makes him GG out.

Reavers man, Reavers killed workers just as insanely. And you deserve to be punished for a failed proxy gate , having one base, and still not be able to watch the mini-map for drops when you know your opponent has widow mines. Its not hard to pull your probes away really fast as soon as you see the medivac.

Reavers and High Templar and expensive and need a significant tech investment in order to reach them. Widow Mines aren't anything like that.
I like the new reaper builds if I compare them to the old WoL reapers. It looks a lot more even now. A good zerg can easily hold that, while it adds an option to terran play. Let´s hope Blizzard doesn´t change anything too fast.

Maru opens with a proxy barracks at 8 and early gas (reaper rush) against JKS' hatch first. JKS does scout the barracks, but Maru bunkers between JKS' main and in-base natural. Some pretty solid reaper micro takes out a ridiculous amount of drones. Eventually JKS drives Maru off and JKS counterattacks with his zerglings and manages to take out quite a few SCVs.
Maru does expand at home and tech up, while continuing to pressure a bit with the reapers. Maru finally stops the zergling runbys with hellions. The game stabilises as JKS kills off Maru's reapers. JKS goes for a roach-bane allin and he takes the game!

?? Reapers barely do any damage. It take FIVE shots to kill a worker . queens shut it down hard
You can target with the Widow Mine (select it, right click a unit you want it to attack, in range, before it attacks). It only works if the unit is in range when you click on a unit though (before it attacks).

Queens can easily defend that, as can mass zerglings if you build a pool early. So what exactly is your argument here?

Proxy reaper is super strong now. No tech lab combined with their mobility and healing makes them a major annoyance for even queens to deal with on maps like CK.

That's why I put it in inverted commas. It behaves the same way, but unique to widow mines. I assume the game must just consider them "dead" for targeting purposes once the mine's locked onto it but before the projectile hits.

I'd sugest you try to play Z vs that, you will find it most unpleasant. There is a reason why EVERY zerg has huge problems vs just that. The only reason why Z even had a small chance with an extream counter allin was because T didn't have a single unit home and lost 9 freaking SCVs. Take your Terran bias to bed.

The MLG Results? Zerg is 3-4 right now. That's nothing to fret about
SS, you don't understand: if Zerg isn't winning at least 72% of their games in all matchups, including mirrors, the game is imbalanced.

The only reason that was ever remotely close was terran didnt build any depots to wall off. Had he built some depots zerg would be down 9 workers and god knows how much larva.
um the zerg played incredibly greedy vs a rush what do you expect? for the zerg to be able to be as greedy as possible not have a spawning pool done when the reaper arrives and still be able to win if the terran doesn't make a mistake?

Widow Mine intentionally has smart fire attached to it.
It's an auto cast ability with a Validator "No Markers" (which means it can't be targeted by the same unit at the same time I think) The market is set when the Widow Mine attacks (it's under the "WidowMineAttack" "set" effect, and the marker is set in its "Target" tab, and it's linked with WidowMineAttack, so two or more can't be used on the same target at the same time).

Well it comes out in a little under a month, so I don't doubt Browder and Kim are paying very close attention to these games.
Personally, I'm pretty damn happy with HotS right now, and I hope Blizzard doesn't cave to community balance complaints.

Players do it to think the game over after a loss, what they did wrong and whatnot. Also to bother their opponent.
There isn't "0 reason" and to get annoyed at something like that is pretty ridiculous.
Actually, if you have 4 workers, no structures, and no army, there is truly "0 reason".
I just stated two reasons.
1. Think the game over 2. Bother your opponent
Neither of those reasons are tournament valid. #2 is against rules, #1 is why you have time between games.
What? Why do you think bomber manner mules? Why do you think Seed did manner nexus in game 3 of a BO5? To get inside their opponents heads. Why do you think people dance their units? None of that is against the rules, and are completely tournament valid. Thinking over the game at the end is also one of the best things to do to plan your next build. Both of these are the exact reasons people stay in games later.

Or I am just not bad. I've played over 150 games combined with terran and protoss and reapers are not that strong if you have 3 queens
im extremely fed up and frustrated with the current state of tvz in wol. now, the gstl preseason tournament is the first time ever i watch hots - and all the time, everyone talks about how hard tvz and terran's early game antics currently are for zergs in hots. and all i see tonight is terrans getting raped by zerg early game antics. sigh.

I semi-agree with you. That seemed like all-WoL, with the exception of the map. Not the most entertaining, but hey, they wanted to win. I'm sad that ByuN is so sad, though.

I believe that players should think only about their wins and nothing else. It's other people's job to make entertaining games.

That is 100% the fault of the Terran's for leaving themselves so vulnerable to stuff like this. Any solid build w/ scouting wouldn't have died to these zerg builds.

You can't be serious? Didn't you see the games? Can't you put two and two together? JKS got dominated by Reapers first game, counterallins. 2nd game, 1base baneling bust vs super greedy Terran play. These types of comments without any fundation just makes me sad.
just like balance whining on a patch without enough games played to really say __X__ is actually imba.

To be fair, Maru and Byun aren't some of the best Terrans in the game.
Lol, this is a joke.
JKS has been in Code A like what, one time? And he got eliminated in the first round.
ByuN and Maru have both been Code S, with Byun finishing top 4 two times, and Maru and ByuN are both in Code A right now (with ByuN vs Gumiho determining who goes directly to Code S and who goes directly to up and downs).

Yea but it doesnt matter when you don't wall off or in Byun's case play super greedy and not scout and get baneling busted.

This. After they won the first one, I stopped underestimating them. They really do care about team league and are arguably the best at it in this format.
Actually your all correct, letting slow zerglings run across your map twice without walling off to kill your harvester line is an example of good play, and a baneling bust is clearly a sign of zerg being strong.
Respect to JKS for taking games off of Maru and Byun!
Well, fairly enjoyable GSTL tonight. Funny how both nights ended on a WoL game!
And remember guys, this is still a tournament with monetary winnings. In the end, "win at all costs" is the name of the game. HotS stuff is icing on the cake. We have seen some really cool HotS stuff already both today and yesterday, and you have to accept that quite a few games will still look like WoL games, especially in the early scene. That's just how it's gonna go down for now.

I didn't see the opening but I'm assuming ByuN went 1 rax expand into 2 gas. That is not a "super greedy" build at all (unless he did 3x CC and I missed it?), that's about as standard as a 15 Hatch.

1. They were better in WoL, this is different 2. Maybe the prime guys should start scouting again? Stupidly greedy openings without scouting as they are used to in WoL but get punished for in HotS.
You look at the result, not on how the players played. The Prime terrans played awful and died to unscouted allins

It's greedy as fuck if you find out your zerg opponent doesn't have an expo. And Byun did not scout that. Everything in relativity.

I loved it. I still have some issues with that hellbat unit, it just doesn´t seem to fit in the game, but otherwise I love the new Protoss abilities/units. Also, we haven´t even seen any zerg going late in GSTL, yet. We have barely seen anything in this GSTL. I like it a lot more than WoL beta/Open Season. WoL Open Season was just disgusting to watch at times.

Not in HotS. The accomplishments of players in WoL don't really mean as much as people think they do at the very beginning of HotS, since it's all the B-teamers who have been focusing on HotS while all the well known A-teamers were still playing WoL.

Since when did ladder mean anything? >_> It can be an indicator of who's good (obviously, you have to be damn good to get to the top of Korea GM), but when you say "they've done a lot more than JKS has", the only thing that they've done "more" than JKS in HotS is get top ladder spots, and for all we know, Prime's practice regimen is a lot more ladder-heavy than FXO's, the latter of which may emphasize in-house games a lot more. In the end, JKS won in the booth, and since that's what we typically use to judge players instead of ladder rankings in WoL, I see no reason to change that standard in HotS.

Yeah. I think it's just that the original comments can be interpreted in 2 ways, before the game and after the game. Before the game you would thin that Maru and ByuN were the more accomplished and some of the better HoTS Terrans because you only have the ladder to look at. If you look at the comments after the game we see that JKS has beaten both so in HoTS professional matches he is more accomplished. Oh well. Doesn't really matter now because the games are over.

Losing 7 workers and having to dramatically over make zerglings isn't defending lol.
so you're complaining you would have to lose 7 workers and make zerglings when the player went for an early hatch (greedy) and later pool (even more greedy) .... against a build that CUT lots of scvs by building the rax at 8 instead of 12?
Lol Choya winning games? Thankfully it's still the beta. Funny also that everyone is claiming zerg is shit vs T but they are still winning. I gotta try HotS someday to understand better.

EDIT: JKS. Woah!
Choya had no detection, except the one oracle that had no energy left, maybe even lost it. Not a good thing to have your only mineral line blocked and no way to get detection. Could have send in a hallucination every 40 seconds and pulling workers haha.
But already seeing that those greedy Terran openings don't work, that currently own every Zerg. Matches my ladder experience, though those Terrans are even more greedy, makes up for me being pretty bad.
But the LR thread is hilarious, so much people giving false information. It is just an expansion but it feels as bad as WoL release.
I don't know why people are complaining, it will probably take at least six months for the game to stabilize again, so of course these results are mostly meaningless.

Beating someone with a 1 base baneling bust isn't an indicator of anything, besides the fact that someone didn't scout. It just means JKS flipped a coin and said, here's this build that hasn't worked since 2010, but maybe he just won't scout and do a greedy opening, and I'll get an easy win.
Especially now, since Terran has free siege mode ffs, to lose to a baneling bust is just inexcusable.
