no worries yo
you do a lot of threads and work so we forgive you for any and all minor slip ups in the process.
9 pool into fast expand at the gold had me a little worried for Paralyze, but he just kept holding on and had great army control. Interesting game. ^_^

lots of zerg players wish early pools/early aggression were actually viable in this game. it's ironic that the other races complain about our rampant droning ability, because it gets very boring playing that way. defense, defense, no units unless we have to! never control the pace of the game!
unlike us, life is just good enough to make shitty aggressive zerg builds work (well, "work")
I think its funny how everyone complained about GOM not streaming all of Code A and then you look on the side and there are 3000 viewers lol.. makes u wonder how many of those that bitched are actually watching.

Because WCS AM is going on, 13k viewers on that. Lotta NA players watching that.

You don't have to be as good as Life to pull off playing aggressively.

When they don't stream, there are no VoDs either. EU is still asleep.

The majority of sc2 viewers live in europe.
This is a pretty bad time for Europe.
There is a youtube stream too.
Edit: and WCS America
Link the youtube stream please.
Oh, lichter OP is a lie or it isnt online anymore cause he edited it out now too. ;;

also, as a US citizen who works, vods are a necessity. These matches are just starting and I'm already late to bed.

Isn't it 5:45am where he is?
Not sure tbh but in his life post in blogs(or w/e section it was in), he was saying how he would sleep really late or wake up early and described the whole life vs mvp finals and how passionate he was about life winning and such. Waking up early(~6 isn't that early lol) is what a passionate fan does.

That whole chase thing would've worked out a lot better in a game where your opponent can't proxy their entire production across the map for 100 minerals. As it was he just left himself wide open for his forces to get divided and conquered.

Ya it's weird, I don't know why people don't want to watch Code A matches. Kinda sucks because they decided to stream every group and now people don't even watch. But a lot of people watch the VoD's instead because of timezone differences.
On January 22 2014 14:42 teddyoojo wrote: whys wcs am have twice the viewers of code a?
Their loss.
Code A is a way higher quality of game than WCS America. WCS America gets good in the later rounds but the games I did watch earlier today before Code A came one were actually cringe worthy.

Squirtle utilized great Phoenix play on game 1 while on Game 2, he used early Zealot aggression, coupled with oracles and Phoenixes. Basically, Squritle outsmarted him, and Life did not know what to do.

My stomach and sides hurt from laughing so hard. Wolf was so appalled by both players the whole game, and then when he yelled "AND HE DOESNT STIM, OR SPLIT HIS ARMY, OR ANYTHING" i curled up into a ball and convulsed in laughter until the GG. What a silly game
That game was just silly, I was actually starting to think skyhigh was pretty decent because of his games against Squirtle, but man that was just not good. He must just get Paralyzed by the AfroToss

Honestly you think that Terran deserves to advance? seriously? Maybe if there were any decent Terran's out there it wouldn't be so ridiculous but man, that was just bad. And it doesn't help when terran's like Fantasy and Bbyong are all in the same group or else the ratio wouldn't be so bad imo. There's just a major shortage of Korean Terran's right now, especially with Flash getting knocked out.

No Squirtle advances already, it's Paralyze vs Life in the losers match. Winner of this series advances to Code S.

Life better destroy Paralyze. That's all I'll say.

Ya I really hope he does, it's unfortunate he's had to play against Protoss arguably his weakest match-up. Here's to Life showing Paralyze how it's done!

Life lost a lot of zerglings, but he was even on harvesters, up 1 base, and Paralyze had to waste so much resources rebuilding all those structures to build that wall so Life probably came out ahead actually even though he lost a lot of lings.

Yeah, it looks the only way.
Nexus Cannon makes a Nexus high threat priority too. I don't mind the wide ramp, but it would be nice if the map had some features in the middle - like maybe on Neo Planet S so that the approach to the enemy main is somewhat circular.
As much as I think these guys are over emphasizing the imba on this map and not enough legit race balance issues (my terran bretheren are really struggling) they have a point. GSL is the highest individual league in the world. There is no excuse to have a map like this in the map pool.
hahhaha wolf i can really imagine this guy sitting there hands on his head and screaming NOOOOO WHAT HAVE I DONE :D this map, at least it creates some jokes and we can have a funny time watching this :D
I think they're being unfair on the map tbh, Try a different strategy that doesnt require a forge wall off at the natural, its one of those maps which requires thinking differently.

Ya the ramp isn't the only thing that sucks, it's the practically wide open middle of the map so every other expansion is wide open as well. It's just so zerg favored in every matchup it's ridiculous. Whoever made this map needs to have their map making privileges taken away immediately.
Like I like funny and interesting maps (i dont want every map to be the same or you have the same play for each map). But I agree with khaldor this map has no business in the WCS pool. Unacceptable.

That is fine on Ladder, but in Competitive rotation with no veto in bo3 format?? It has no business being in the map pool. Same with Heavy Rain to an extent, in PvT Blink is so strong it puts terran at an immediate disadvantage. And what Khaldor is saying right now is completely true and these players careers and lives are at stake.

It was balanced with Kespa-designed maps. There are always raw trash maps when blizzard themselves make them. Daedulus point is proof positive that blizzard is incompetent. They spend millions on esports and then sharply cut off the aftermath coverage of the WCS finals and now this. It just goes on and on. How stupid are they?
Someone needs to be fired for this map. This map is auto-win for zerg.

If they want to take an early expansion against Zerg they do. It's been like that since the beginning of Starcraft time.

With the way zerg production works, it has to be that way or early lings just overwhelms.
On January 22 2014 16:20 Popkiller wrote: my question is should protoss/terran require a full wall vs zerg? seems like that really limits the possibilities.
Well you kind of have to. As terran you can go for a lot of helions early on and that helps with the lings but roach aggression would screw you over in that case..

Only thing I can think of is an old school 2/3 gate Sentry expand, and that gives the Z a huge eco and tech lead.

Well when players are having their careers and lives depend on the success in this WCS tournament system, and in a bo3 format that has no Vetoes they throw in a map that has 0 testing on it right into competitive play when anyone who looked at that map before it was released immediately noticed how fucked it was. I applaud Khaldor for speaking out because Blizzard deserves to be fucking embarrassed about this.

Yeah I agree with Khaldor. I feel really bad for protoss players because they can't win against zerg on that map, but I don't feel bad for Terran who can't win on any map against protoss. His whining is annoying when there are already 11 protoss in code S and only 2 terrans.

Normally I would agree with you. But this is WCS! WC f'n S. I dont want to see players career being destroyed or effected by by a really gimmicky map. I think they have a good point.
Again though they are harping way too much about 1 map and they have not touched ONE race balance issue. I think thats a bit of a double standard.

not all people, khaldor seems to love every map with free 3rd where you can see a death ball vs a free ball.
This map is fine on the ladder, completely OK with that, but in a WCS system where players careers and lives depend on the success of this tournament, it has no fucking business being in the map pool. Especially in a bo3 format with no vetoes. At least put the map out on ladder for a season at least to test results. But this map is different in the shittiest way possible. There is absolutely nothing special about this map that allows people to look passed the shortcomings, it's just a wide open map with no personality, it's just different for the sake of being different without any redeeming qualities. The theme of the map is even boring as hell.

Im down for experimentation, it's more interesting even if you do get a couple of maps that are terrible. A veto system would probably fix everything though.

If I am not mistaken WCS NA and EU have 1 veto per player, but GSL is an exception... So the problem comes from different rules for regions.

Ya well you would think the most prestigious event in Korea would be able to get a map pool that isn't completely retarded and imbalanced. There is completely no testing that goes on beforehand to see how the results turn out. Putting a map like this on ladder is completely fine, test it out first though before putting it into competition play where players careers and lives are at stake, especially in the WCS system where the cumulative points system counts from the very beginning. Same goes for Heavy Rain and the TvP matchup, it's extremely favored for Blink and shouldn't be in the WCS map pool.

When else the time to comment on it? You just go through the match without saying anything even though it's fucking obvious to everyone who's watching how retarded it is? I hope Blizzard was watching. I hope they feel stupid and embarrassed because these players they claim to care so much about have gotten the big D of Blizzard from this map pool. Like I said, the same goes for Heavy Rain and TvP. And PvZ as well but it's just the rush distance that sucks. They need to release the maps on ladder first and test the results before putting them into the WCS map pool imo. Or a simple veto system would solve a lot of problems.

I agree, I just don't think it's the time to comment on it.
You're acting like nobody else is commenting and that Khaldor is making some stand for justice. We all know it's fucking stupid, yet an impassioned speech during the games won't achieve anything except annoy people/make people laugh
That is not true. It makes Blizzard look like idiots for not fixing the map pool ASAFP. This is a good thing. If Blizzard look/feel like idiots, then they have an incentive to fix the map pool ASAFP. That's what we want.

It was balanced with Kespa-designed maps. There are always raw trash maps when blizzard themselves make them.
Someone has never heard of Battle Royale?
that shit was phased out after like 2 months iirc. Meanwhile we'll probably see Daedalus till 2015
I need to find vods of Demon's Forest some day. The stories I've heard about that map are incredible.
I cant recall seeing that map, when is it from?
It's before my time, hence why I've never actually seen it, but apparently it was a map used in a Starleague that had terrain so impossible it actually bugged out units.

Yes, because somehow talking about the shittiness of maps during a sacred game is some evil sin? You honestly think Blizzard is combing through TL forums looking for comments on Daedalus Point? Really? seriously? You're not serious are you? I'd much rather have all the casters bashing the map everytime it's played in some elimination bo3 that completely screws over whatever player is matched up against a zerg. Because so far Life is the only Zerg that hasn't picked it in a series but even he picked it in the elimination match. So stop acting like casters talking about a map is somehow some unthinkable thing, I happen to think a caster sticking up for the fucking players getting fucked by having to play on this map is something that should happen, especially during an elimination series in the supposedly the most important tournament in the world.
So, why Tempestes instead of Carriers? Is the little bit of longer range really so much better than massively more dps? Or are they to costly because of the Interceptors?

Ya i heard on Artosis's podcast Meta that making them more of a hit and run unit instead of a turtle unit would make it more micro intensive and much more enjoyable to use and watch. Like make them move faster and burrow un-burrow a lot quicker, but make the locusts not last nearly as long, maybe a slight damage reduction or something as well. I duno it would have to be tweaked but that would make them usable in regular compositions and you could like siege an expansion, hit the mineral line, and run away. I think that's the best idea I have heard so far and it sounds really fun actually.

Uh, I absolutely hate free units. As a general concept in RTSs even, not only their implementation in SC2. But I like Life a lot, so that game was weird. Disgusting and enjoyable at the same time.

Free units in WC3 actually worked pretty well IMO as you had hero exp and AOE dispels.

Hmm, yeah, I didn't think about it for some reason. The general game design and their implementation is vastly different there, but they worked relatively fine. Maybe aside of some specific cases, like Human players abusing invisible summons. But even that wasn't game breaking, so you are right I suppose.

Life at his peak was the scariest Zerg I've ever seen, I think he has it in him again to reach that level of skill. Early Hots was the best Starcraft in a short period of time.

Not really. He played pretty well against Squirtle, and had better control than ParalyzE for 99% of their game. If we're basing our opinions of players on one series, I guess Life should have gotten knocked out after his loss to Squirtle, because that was pretty painful.
But Life and Squirtle obviously should have gotten through and they did, so justice was done.

you cant really compare hero's one or two summons at once with uncountable waves of free units with ridiculous damage (necro's spell is a joke and it requires corpses and no one ever used it)

Not really, Life was in control of that game from start to finish. Once a certain amount of broodlords and swarm hosts are massed then there isn't really anything protoss can do.

Correct, that's exactly why I have said "The general game design and their implementation is vastly different there". ssxsilver pointed it to me that free units as a concept is not inherently bad and used WC3 as an example. I've just agreed with his correction/note to my first post.
Free units in SC2 are still disgusting though. I wish they would be removed from the game completely and replaced with something other.
