No.
P sOs vs T FlaSh - Out Boxer T Cure vs Z hitmaN - Frost Z TRUE vs P Stats - Overgrowth Z Rogue vs T TY - Merry Go Round P Avenge vs P Zest - King Sejong Station T Maru vs Z Action- Habitation Station
I want Flash to reinvente TvP with mech. TRUE to go full hatchery baller mode. And TY to play a mindblowingly good TvZ. I like both teams so I win. (kinda pullin for KT though for the telecom rivalry!)
I think this lines up really well for Jin Air at least on paper. sOs vs Flash will be crucial, but I feel like sOs has the edge. Cure should have the advantage over hitmaN, TRUE/Stats is too close to call, I'd favor TY over Rogue, Zest is certainly favored over Avenge but Avenge has a chance because it's PvP and Maru should kill Action not because Action is bad but because Maru is Maru.
KT's lack of depth is showing in playoffs now that they're out of a Bo5 setting; Action/Sleep/hitmaN is just not a strong enough backup to their top 4.
sOs > Flash Cure > hitmaN TRUE > Stats Rogue < TY Avenge < Zest Maru > Action
You know its getting serious when they let hitmaN to play :D Looking forward to this, really shows that all these top 4 teams deserved to be here, the games have been very close in both semis!

Yeah, this is confusing. As much as I wanted Sleep to play, sending him against the #1 Terran after two ZvP's... Why not Action, Stats or anyone else? Saving TY for later and starting with Sleep might've worked out nicely. And now hitmaN?
What the balls is Action doing playing against Maru? I'm hoping they've been training a snipe build for him for the last week which includes the inevitable proxy rax build defense.

Yeah, I think this is partly it. Also, I think he can be seen as a safe pair of hands to stave off an ace match in the event Jin Air are a game up before he plays; or, he can secure the ace match if they're a game behind, and maybe come straight out as the ace player immediately afterwards. I think it's quite a smart choice.

Maru likes taking calculated risks. It's what makes him very unpredictable and even more intimidating as an apponent. He can beat you lategame with ease, so you might want to secure every advantage you can get. Sadly, he is more than willing to completely destroy you with an aggressive opening. It's what keeps his opponents honest. MVP used to do it, but I think Maru does it even better.

And you always keep the pressure on KT to close the series fast because Maru will 90% take his game and both Maru and SoS (possible True too) have no equal in KT except for possibly (the predictable choice of) Zest.
On July 29 2014 04:42 meshfusion wrote: I dont understand the logics behind playing maru for last... seems absurd. Can someone enlighten me?
Okay. It takes a SK Telecom T1 fan to explain this properly. If KT had certain players such as hitman developing snipe builds for Maru then GW played it smart and said, "hey they won't expect our best guy to be on the last map." So if hitman was planning a build for Maru it is now wasted on Cure. However, KT was smart and stuck action last as they are confident in his abilities and also probably has a snipe build prepared. Basically both coaches are trying to outsmart each other. Many would argue GW got the better match ups, but KT has some of the best line up coaches in the history of Starcraft and it definitely shows here.
The far fetched but still possible theory is that January swapped out the lineups with her own custom GW trollerary lineups.
My initial thought when I looked at the lineups was "damn this is going to be really bad for KT."
But thinking about it more, KT needs to prove they are worth being in the finals. Day 1 had great matchups for KT, day two our ace couldn't go the distance... the last couple of rounds have been so-so for the team... this is the chance for us to show we can handle the pressure and be clutch. Win or lose, I think it will say a lot about the state of the team and for that reason I'm actually really excited.
On July 29 2014 04:42 meshfusion wrote: I dont understand the logics behind playing maru for last... seems absurd. Can someone enlighten me?
i dont see the logics behind preferring any spot above any other to any meaningfull degree at all
It does matter to a certain extent if you believe other matches affect the player in the booth. For instance, if Maru comes out and dominates the first game, does the rest of Jin Air play better than if they are down 0-1? Or, knowing Maru is likely to win set 6, does a player think "if I can just bring it to set 6 we can win" and somehow play more determined/in the zone?
Obviously these are just guesses and may not reflect actuality, but I believe player order matters to an extent. It may, it may not though.
sOs > Flash Cure >> hitmaN TRUE ? Stats Rogue ? TY Avenge << Zest Maru >> Action
There are a few that are easy to call, one that I'm willing to call that isn't so easy, and two that I seriously have no idea what to expect. I definitely think that Jin Air has a huge advantage with this lineup.
The first map will be really important. I could see KT still win even if FlaSh lost (with Stats, TY and Zest winning their games), but if FlaSh could show everyone why he was called the Ultimate Weapon, it would definitely help his team a great deal.
I'm also super curious to see if KT had the time to prepare some more stuff (island expo, proxy, any kind of snipe build) as IMHO they had the advantage on the preparation front in day 1.
Can't wait ! HYPUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU !!!
Gogogogo KT, for an all telecom finals on floating fucking islands !

I thought SKT will lose the finals because the majority of their team chokes so hard in finals.
So stoked for sOs-Flash, everyone's saying Jin Air, that's what I thought too coming into the playoffs but now that I see the lineups, honestly, I see a lot of risk factors for Jin Air. KT have led with their big 4 and unlike many I actually I think they landed some pretty good matchups. If KT take a big early lead that will put a lot of pressure on Jin Air. Putting Maru last is another risk, the first risk is of course he doesn't get to play at all, the second is that his 2-rax runs into a pool first
But if it goes to the ace match, which I think has a pretty good chance of happening, I think Jin Air will have it in the bag. So really hard to call, that's what makes it exciting! 4-3 Jin Air, I think.

I think they just think that multiple bo's in the finals destroys the hype. And I agree.

More suspense in the finals, if it was BO3, in the second match you wouldn't be sure if the second series was the last one (and you needed to hype it) or if there would be a third series to hype more.

It's like that in football champions league as well.
Bo3 is fairer as it is more protected from variance, i.e. the better team wins more often. But Bo1 is more exciting than Bo3 as the stakes are higher. Hence, this format makes it easier for the best teams to get to the finals, and the finals becomes one epic showdown.

I prefer Terrans who don't go reapers in TvZ at all and instead build marines. Zergs get way too greedy with their first overlord, it's so easy to snipe them with 2 early marines. Also no Zerg loses anything against Reapers at all anymore (except for that one poor guy on the ladder yesterday who lost 6 drones to 2 reapers and then ragequit)

Yeah but Reaper for scouting more important, also the reaper x3 and the 4-6hellion push is where you can do damage is why i like it LOL Cure thinks all in is incoming xD

but there's not much to scout with reapers that early. I mean who does 10pools anyways? The really important scouting happens when hellions are out so you can use them instead

But he actually had more than enough to hold, he just straight up took a fight he didn't have to in a terrible position that he had absolutely no chance of winning. A complete misjudgement of army strengths that should not happen at pro level.

by the way, i don't think it takes a pro level to understand CURE fucked up. I am mid-master T and when I saw him attack down the ramp with mostly marines into a huge roach concave I thought he was gonna loose the game, this is how things spiral out of control. He also could have pulled back from the 3rd instead he took a TERRIBLE fight.
Truthfully, this game was more thrown away by CURE than won by Hitman.

What does it matter? It's not all kill format.
Putting your best players in games that might not happen is terrible selection policy. It'd be like putting your best striker 5th in a penalty shootout.
Well, you place your players based on their mental state not their quality(obv. they have quality since they are in A team). If the player is able to handle the possible pressure being the last one and the one who has to score he goes last. As you can see Cure could not handle being second, how would he handled being the last when he has to win? ;-)

No im on about when they were fighting on the rocks before he let the rocks up. He kept trying to position his mines more than micro his bio for me. There he was waiting for the bunkers to finish, soon as they did he should of sniped the overseer, dived into the bunker and then began planting his mines imo. Firebear ins bunkers with SCVs being pulled should of held that.

Well, he invested 300 minerals and almost let it finish. He basically made 4 hatcheries before spawning pool and Stats can't do a thing about it
Well you don't really have to do anything about it, super late queens and a very low drone count will put the Protoss miles ahead in tech with gateway first. If you aren't going gateway first you can do something about it.

True is so predictable with his builds. All of his recent games follow a simple rule, make mass mineral only units: queens, zerglings and then switch to mutas.

Sometimes their thoughts conflict between trying to keep the hatchery alive or trying to keep the troops alive. Of course trying to do both would mean doing both sub-par, effectively ending up with Zerg losing on both fronts but in the heat of the moment it's hard to decide on a course of action and stick to it.
What i was confused about it why he stopped at 1-1 he was sat with so much gas and minerals he should of pushed 2-2 lings and he would of got slightly better trades. But oh well he fucked up due to roach ling all in doing 0 damage lol.
Also, can someone explain me why zergs don't go away FF - in this game he was running with his zerglings around an army surrounded by forcefield wall... dafuq? Free kills ><

against such heavy gateway army which he knew was comming, good old infestor tech would not have been a bad choice at all especially since swarm hosts are really good on that map aswell as possible follow up.

But there was still a good bit of space until the Stalkers would get in range of the Hatchery, and the Stalkers were trapped too. Sure they could blink forward but Blinking beyond your Forcefields into that many Zerglings doesn't seem like a good idea. True essentially threw half of his army away completely for free, not really any different in outcome from being caught on move command or something.

The coach was confident in the first 3 players to at least take a point or two. But yes, he should've put Maru in the middle or close to the end, not the actual end of the line.

He had a full surround on the Stalkers. This helps prevent the Stalkers from blinking back as they took damage from Roaches, as they'd then get attacked by Zerglings. But Stats managed his Blink/Forcefield micro well enough to have gaps were Stalkers at the front being attacked by Roaches could still Blink and be safe from Zerglings. Miscalculation by True.
EDIT:
It's hard for Zerg because there isn't much micro you can do with Roach/Ling vs. Forcefield/Blink. He needed to get that Ling surround and he managed to do it, but Stats dealt with it perfectly.
That isn't what I saw at all. At the start of the engagement True had like a couple of Roaches in the fight and over 100 Zerglings. He just charged them in and pushed up against a solid wall of Forcefields dealing absolutely 0 damage until they expired, at which point almost all of his lings had died without getting a single hit in. By the time the reinforcing Roaches had trickled in to support the scraps of lings that were left the game was over, and Stats barely needed to blink at all to crush the fight.
And I find it hilarious that Zergs call forcefields anti-micro when they are actually about the only thing that forces the Zerg to actually micro against Protoss, but even then they are still so reluctant to do anything but a-move in and push up against Forcefields until the Protoss misses one or runs out of energy.

PvP is Zest's worst match up
It's his best
Well, the thing with Zest's PvP is that he is THE protoss that modern PvP is modeled after. He might lose PvPs these days but it's because he dominated the matchup so hard that people studied him and tried to become him.
What I am saying is that Aligulac doesn't take the game itself into consideration.
A lot of Zest's PvPs have been quite close and he doesn't give me the invincible aura (even though he wins a lot) but when he faces zergs I pity the zergs :p

Fantastic stuff BisuDagger, you are being made an honorary KT fan. I got my honorary membership when I correctly predicted KT 4-1 SKT in the 2012-2013 proleague.
Wonder if an offensive hail mary DT would of been better? And haven't we seen this multiple times, with PartinG and Zest? If you go DT vs Blink after expand you sacrifice the natural and keep the nexus cannon at home to survive and than try to win with DTs.

I guess this is really cool for the fans in Korea though. Starcraft 2 seems to be finding it's place in Korea, so much hype and the next season is already confirmed and will be even better .

Ace match 2014 season. SKT ace revealed. Bisu runs up from the audience! Proceeds to proxy-Zealot Flash who starts crying and then explodes in the booth
Fireworks explode, people around the globe cease their wars and gaze up at the sky, people stop writing dumb shit on the Internet and extraterrestrials who have been monitoring humanity for centuries decide to finally take up first contact

Meh, they pretty much are a 2 man team and benefit quite a lot from this season format. In previous season they would have way worse record.
Also, I hate Maru since he defeated Rain in that cursed OSL finals
Rain's style is completely boring, even if solid. Also when he was hyped he wasn't able to deliver side by side GSL/OSL championships. And after that he denied Parting WCS Asia championship. At least Parting finished his countdown series with a gold.

Are you a robot? They was probably the most emotionally charged finals ever. When maru won his team started crying, his mom started crying, his grandparents started crying. Maru picked up his little sister and gave her a big hug. Right in the feels.
To people saying Jin Air is a two-man team, sOs and Maru are very good, very very good. But do not ignore True (Ro4), Rogue (really fucking good), and their other players. Jin Air has the top dogs, KT had luck on their side in this Bo3. I think Jin Air had some bad luck and would be way, way better in a bo7 or bo9 than KT, because, frankly KT lacks players past their first 3.

being a KT fan from way back when the image of Flash carrying the team on his own was real, saying "KT lacks players past the first 3" doesn't really feel like a diss.

You do realize that they just played 3 of those in 3 days, right ? And that outside of the Allkill round (which actually favors the top heavy teams, not the deep rosters), KT won twice ?
Edit: deleted part of my comment because it wasn't relevant to the discussion (not trying to argue which team is more top heavy, just meaning to show that KT has a deeper/better lineup that you seem to think).

I think he might to refer to a bo7 like in a 7 rounds of 7 Bo1 matches (on 7 days)
Anyway both team were close and as expected the sOs vs Flash game determined the final winner
Notably, every single match of the playoffs so far that I've LR'd, the team I was rooting for won. And every time I didn't LR, the team I was rooting for lost...

I partly agree with BisuDagger. SKT vs KT is tied 3-3 and when they're deciding the aces, Bisu runs up from the audience! Unfortunately, KT picks Zest and Zest plays a normal game, destroying Bisu in the most one-sided game of the year.

So happy KT did it ! Now we just have to wait 10-ish days to get the best final. Can't wait !
I just hope the korean public will show up, lots of people at the venue, and an awesome show, awesome games, awesome ceremonies (oh how I'd like a FlaSh vs Parting game, ending in a FlaSh win and a ceremony) !!

This is why KT magicians was their best name. Because as soon as you call them out they disappear.
Le sigh SKT fans... no one's posting pictures of or talking about our long since retired players when hyping for this PL finals . Bisu, Best and Fantasy... all retired . Only Sun is left from your BW days...
KT on the other hand... Flash, Stats, Action, Hoejja, and Violet (and Wooki I suppose) are still in the game from BW holding strong season after season for the team. <3. The team of true passion and the best Korean Telecom without a doubt.

Violet passed away... I don't find the joke there. Hoejja doesn't play.
Soo and Rain play as much as Flash + Stats. Fantasy has played as much as Action. ParalyzE remains on the team too. Then Classic and Soulkey are as much BW as Baby.
On other note - it's interesting that in the finals are two teams the essentially ignored whole race. SKT's Terran lineup is nearly nonexistent while KT's Zergs don't exist.
On the other hand Jin Air and CJ are more or less evenly split, having at least one Code S level player of each race.

being wrong is one thing but just randomly calling him insensitive is another thing altogether, violet is still with us in spirit, you know like tassadar, cause he plays protoss.
Oh SKT fan, unable to see that saying Violet is still with the team is far from insensitive (actually a tribute to him/he is there in spirit is a sign of respect/love) and that saying Fantasy is retired is pretty standard trash talk/is a joke. .
The reason Fantasy playing as much as Action is sad is because Action was never considered an elite member of his team . How the mighty of SKT has fallen.
I didn't include Baby on the legacy KT list for a reason... I'm merely trash talking the SKT legacy in response to Bisu pictures/ace match going up and reminding fans that KT will be this season's winners. That is all SKT fan!
PS. Hoejja is still on the team... coaching us to victory, KT playoff zerg style. See you in the finale!
I had to miss these matches because of sleep. For some reason, my dreams last night involved checking the scores in the morning only to see Jin Air win 4-2 or 4-3. I'm glad those dreams did not come true.
I knew it. KT has a good team, while Jin Air is relying a lot on sOs and Maru. As I wanted they paid for not letting Maru play early on. I'm sure a lead would've helped them psychologically

hybrid league!
whats that? *HORRID FLASHBACKS WOOSHING*
OH GOD NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I've been trying to pitch the return of hybrid proleague lately. bo3 BW bo3 WoL bo3 HoTS would be the greatest ESPORTing event of all time.
no.
I know I know. I have it thought out. BW and WoL assign a half point for winning the bo3. That way HoTS bo3 is always needed. And then the ace is played in Vanilla SC.

Tries so hard to make Bisu actually relevant in the scene again

Flash is one of the top performing players in PL. I don't understand why people are surprised. He's also in the GSL. Cure on the other hand was sniped by hitman. Something KT is great at preparing for.

yes, Flash is a top performer in proleague. However, sOs has more wins than Flash, a better win % than Flash, and a historically better track record in the matchup than Flash. I would say it was an upset for Flash to beat sOs
6 of sOs' 13 losses also came in round 1 so he was probably close to if not the best performing player in proleague from rounds 2-4

I thought KT Zergs were bad at ZvT though D:
Dude, it's the playoffs
This ^. The KT Zergs train all year for this shit.
I missed the games earlier, but watched the VODs, ecstatic KT won 4-1. Flash over sOs was pretty awesome.
Really hoping for KT zergs to show up in force. Especially Action. Would be awesome if Mafiazerg can take out Soulkey or soO in a ZvZ, but extremely unlikely.

Might as well throw in WC3:TFT, vanilla WC3, and WC2.
Wow, was really worried for KT today. They definitely had worse draws for todays line-up than on Sunday. SO glad that Flash managed to beat sOs. All around stellar performance from KT!
See you in the finals, SKT! Please look forward to being mauled by Zest again.

I'm unimpressed.
You'll be impressed when Jin Air 4-0's KT tonight
*yawn*
You'll be yawning when… Jin Air… 4-0's… KT… tonight? This isn't going well.
Anyways I am super tired but it's ok because when I wake up Jin Air will have won.
I failed you Jin Air D:
Ooops! Accused the wrong guy (sorry Shellshock). All you pens and hammers look the same...
nah I'll own up. I predicted a 4-0 win too ^^ I thought Jin Air had some pretty favorable matchups but it looks like KT really brought their A game to the playoffs

If they had 2 All Kill formats instead of 2 Proleague formats, Jin Air probably would've won. Don't know why they put Maru at the end and risk not having him playing when he's doing most of the heavy lifting. He was the only who got them into the deciding 3rd match.

We don't know that. Maybe KT would've just fielded Zest whenever Maru come up to avoid that from happening again. Maybe it could've been worse. I thought SKT would've been much better in Pro-league format against CJ yet their best performance came from all-kill format with PartinG crushing both CJ aces Bbyong/herO.

They had 2 top players, puting one in first match and the other in last match is not that stupid.
The real incredibly great move here is Flash asking to be put in game one to snipe wether sOs or Maru and give momentum to his team.
As I never followed BW, I've never been impressed by Flash (yes he did good things, but ugly ones as well) but yesterday I must admit I changed my mind about him...

Indeed, incredible nerves from flash dominating sos in such fashion. Things would have been different if it was the other way around. You could see the KT players stepping up with confidence after flash's win.
