Well, just my guess. Maybe they thought the players they're fielding line up better with whatever KT fields. I mean, at the very least Flash on Deadwing was pretty obvious.

I don't think this game is a good example since it was so wonky.
But generally there is a reason why terrans go for the SCV pulls - they believe they have a greater chance winning with that rather than going for the late game.
And I think they still are quite effective when executed right. Have been seeing some bad engagements lately though, SCVs hiding behind the bio etc.

New Terran unit: Panzer SCV
Just let SCVs transform in Hellbats or HERCs
This is a sick idea. A tier 3 CC add-on that let's SCVs transform into HERCs. This way they don't have to ditch the reasonably cool unit idea. Would require *some* balancing obviously.

They should take some lessons with Happy
They should take lessons from Hack and give up on SCV pulls and learn proper ghost control <.<

yeah, I think FlaSh overestimated his harass damage (maybe he thought sOs had cut probes for the immortal poke?) and wasn't expecting a maxed protoss with 7 colossi. Seemed like a particularly awful SCV pull fail

I dunno, sometimes Prime players enter Berserk mode and kill even the greatest teams/players. That doesn't mean much to me.

Very cost inefficient when you make that many dt's, that waste of minerals hurt him later in the game. Also not cancelling your third base and losing vision of Zest's army

Man this was so fucking anticlimactic.I wanted to see who this build works against an actual defended main and not an empty one where the whole army just left.

Because Stats didn't attack with the immortal bust timing, so Cure thought Stats must have abandoned it

But in that case, you HAVE to check for the expansion. I mean, if you move down the ramp versus proxy Immortal, you get sectioned off by forcefields and slaughtered anyways. I don't understand the lack of a Scan in this game, just to get more information. Even if he doesn't scan the natural, a scan in the main shows you nothing and your spidey senses should start tingling.

He just follows my ladder tip. When I switched from Terran, I started as toss with several army groups, also macro games and drop harass instead of relying on Bullshit (which is way more relaxing to play and the opponent rages about how I could win with 1/3 of his APM). I have learned my lesson :D
Can't figure out what Zest was thinking there. I guess maybe he thought the main army was moving toward his third and the group at the back of the nat was a distraction? Even then, what a weird blink.

What ended the game is Zest not splitting his army correctly to deal with the first big drop into the natural allowing an almost completed third to get canceled.

Chill, Stats has done nothing to prove he could have defended better than Zest in that situation, and Zest probably had more time to prepare for the Ace match which highly likely is Maru than Life.

I can't stand Wolfs analysis because he too often as absolutely no clue what he is talking about. I dunno if he is even gold as protoss, and obviously the other races he only knows from the campaign. He misjudges the most obvious situations so often.

That was always going to get cancelled. The first mine hit basically guarantees it. I've seen and played that exact game a million times.
And sorry, but dropping two mines on an immortal, overcharge, the MSC, a stalker and a zealot, mines getting targetted but still killing 6 probes and the MSC is NOT what I call being the better player.

well no, it just allowed maru to stay in the game, when you invest that much in mines and get nothing you're too far behind to come back.
The real blow was the loss of the third, which was already damn late. (there was also a moment when Zest had like 800 mins and 500 gaz which was wierd)
THe only protoss that wins against this strat on this map are the one able to counter attack very quick, those who stay in there base defending always loose in a slow painfull way.

No it wasn't. Zest had a Colossi, a few stalkers, and some Zealots that were NEITHER defending the drop or defending his third and he still almost got back in time to deflect Maru's force at the third. That's called bad army movement.

Zest crushed Trap. Maru being fielded as ace was unexpected since he wasn't in the original lineup. Flash and Life lost against players that could have been sent out as ace. So it's between Stats and Zest, and we have no proof Stats would have done better.

On March 23 2015 21:47 The_Red_Viper wrote: well maru is really good in tvp, i guess kt didn't expect him to play the ace
Probably expected Rogue? I know I did.
KT should stop auto zesting in ace, you have a lot of good players its ok to rotate them for ace match.
Meh. FlaSh is SC2 FlaSh. Life had no time to prepare for PL, it's already a shame that he got played this week. People keep talking about Stats not being ace while he should be, but I've yet to see ace-worthy performances from him. I mean if he had such a specific build to beat Cure, I honestly don't think he would have stood a chance against Maru.
Stats has a winning record vs Maru historically. 3-3 in matches, 8-7 in games.
And? San was 10-0 against Life a few months ago. HtH records don't mean much unless the matches happened in the last months or so.
It's all played since 2014. I agree that Maru would be favored, but I don't agree with Stats not having a chance in a bo1. He even won 2 games in their recent bo7 series.
Eh. I know I'm a KT fan boy but we don't even often go to the ace match after going 0-2 (from my biased memory.) I think this result is solid given that. I would like to see some Stats for our 0-2 to ace match % (lol.) Go KT!
thats not the point, zest currently has a abysmal ace match record to the point where it might be affecting his mind going into them, which is why I'm saying stats over flash and life because those two aren't doing so hot in PL, actually life would have made a great choice, being in the finals has no bearing on that.

I guess I edited and quoted that at the same time. Just need to blog and PM it now. #drunk . Sorry mods. Fml.

That's not proof he would have done any better against Maru. Not to mention that, as I said, Maru coming out was kinda unexpected, Rogue would have made just as much sense. If you can be 100% sure they'll send out Maru, it's more likely that Life would be picked as ace.

I actually don't think it affects his mind at all tbh. I think Zest's biggest strength is in fact his mental stability. PvT is just not his best matchup, add the map to that AND that he has to play vs Maru on it. But yeah playing other players might be a good change in general, Zest is kinda too predictable at this point

So now KT has lost against SKT, JAGW and CJ. They have to win all other matches to have a shot at the round 2 playoffs, and they have to do well throughout the rest of the year to have a shot at the final playoffs. It's about time to start winning, guys.

If KT goes 4-3 and more than 3 teams are ahead of them, that's a disaster to me. I can accept SKT, JAGW and CJ, but MVP and or Samsung? They shouldn't do better than KT, look at the rosters. Granted, Zest and Flash have stopped looking like complete trainwrecks, but still, they can do better than that.
Brendan and Glade also didn't expect Maru to come out as Ace, but I was almost sure he would, and he did. I don't know if KT expect him. Life would have a better chance against Maru, I'd say 50-50 than Zest. Zest PvT hasn't look to solid, or maybe Maru is a little too good these days.
Although I'd say Life looking a little stress lately, maybe adapting to a strict Kespa training regime, pressure to perform well, etc. Back when he was at Startale, he could pretty much do anything he likes.

Look at it this way, Samsung has yet to play SKT, CJ and us. Like wise for MVP. Even giving MVP a prime win, that's a potential 3-4 for both for them. Highly likely a 4-3 makes the playoffs this round. If we make it there, that's potential more points for us. I know that's a lot of assumptions, but let's have faith. there was no way to expect that maru would come out.

Sure he was. What you think ended the game didn't "end the game."
What ended the game is Zest not splitting his army correctly to deal with the first big drop into the natural allowing an almost completed third to get canceled.
The misreads.
He could have none of those those things and he still shouldn't lose more than 1 probe (or any if he has detection) to a wm. Zest just fucked up.

I respectfully disagree. KT's coach should have definitely account Maru for ace. I know Maru wasn't on the lineup and Jin Air does rotate their ace frequently, but it would be naive to not account for Maru.
on the other hand it would have been a bit too obvious for jin air to assume that zest was gonna come out.
Yea Jin Air probably expected Zest. Much safer to kill him with a Terran.
Look at it this way, Samsung has yet to play SKT, CJ and us. Likewise for MVP. Even giving MVP a free win against Prime, that's 3-4 for them. 4-3 usually makes the playoffs for a round. If we make it there, that's more potential points for us. I know it's a lot of assumptions, but let us keep faith.
Sure, it's all possible. But even if KT wins all games from now, all Samsung has to do is win against CJ or SKT and make the other series go to ace. That's why I really hope the boys bring their A-game next week. And Stats maybe some more weird strats. Whatever it takes to win.

Take heart, my fellow KT fan. Those 3 were literally the hardest, and if we make it 4-3 isn't a disaster. I agree we need to step-up in other rounds though.

Samsung winning against CJ or SKT kekekekeke
You laugh about it, but all it takes is one player losing to Dear (which is easily possible for most players they could send against him, tbh), one player slipping up (i.e. someone getting sniped by Bravo) and an unlucky ace match. Also, Samsung can channel the power of Guilty.

It's unlikely, sure. Out of their last 3 opponents, unfortunately KT is the most likely to lose against them. But it's not over yet. I believe in KT <.<

heh, you got me there, but at the very least he started fielding stats more after that.

They picked up Dear before the season who is now getting better and better, and they got sweet jackets. So if any Korean in a foreign team wants to go back to KeSPA, Samsung's got some great arguments.

Dear and Solar are in theory top players, like potentially among the best of their respective races. Reality, BravO and, in theory, Stork, all have the potential to be strong PL players, and the remaining of the team (Armani, Shine, ...) is strong. There's nothing wrong with Samsung's lineup in itself (it's probably better than last year's CJ, for example). And they had the mighty RorO too.

The gameplan can't be to win every ace. It has to be to win 3 out of 4 games
Well I bet the coach wasn't counting on Life and Flash to lose.

Shame KT lost this match after Stats' sweet build.
Yes, frankly after seeing that build, JAGW should have just forfeited the match. "1 base proxy colossus WITH RANGE? We can't beat that!"
I bet Cure is the only JAGW player this works against, he's the most standard player they have.

Yeah, Stats out-bullshited JAGW like I didn't thought it was possible.

Not this game he wasn't.
Sure he was. What you think ended the game didn't "end the game."
What ended the game is Zest not splitting his army correctly to deal with the first big drop into the natural allowing an almost completed third to get canceled.
The misreads.
He could have none of those those things and he still shouldn't lose more than 1 probe (or any if he has detection) to a wm. Zest just fucked up.
no man Zest just completely outplayed Maru when he didnt move any of his probes away and didn't kill the mine fast enough. Classic DLO whining about protoss being at a disadvantage
Classic indeed. Leaning back in my chair, drinking a glass of whiskey, and enjoying these comments. My drink is oddly salty for some reason, though.

Oh look who's back. How long until you get yourself banned again?
I think KT is just really unlucky - with that roster they are definitely in the top 3 of Proleague, they just don't seem to have the consistency of SKT or Jin Air - Flash slumping, Zest slumping in ace matches, and while their t2 players are strong, they're just not quite as strong as the t2 players of those other teams, who are really stepping up (Dark and Dream (who have already graduated into t1 players) and for Jin Air: Cure, Rogue, and Trap (who is on his way to t1 it looks like))
If at least 2 or 3 out of the following happen:
Flash recovers his usual form Zest recovers his usual form TY somehow gets back to his 2014 ability Life doesn't catch the post-GSL championship slump Stats graduates to highest tier
I would expect to see KT at the top of the rankings of the next 2 rounds. Only question is if they will make final playoffs - and they have fighting odds against Samsung due to Samsung's abysmal r1, and no other team (ST-Y, MVP, Prime) is consistant enough to beat out KT in the long run.

Probably not very long, with moderators who are allowed to enforce rules or ignore them at their whim. It's not how any other professional website that I know of operates, for good reason, but hey, it's their site, and they get to make up whatever rules they wish.

AFAIK the line up was decided days before the gsl finals actually happened so the coach couldn't know if life won or lost his match. There's a reason why recent champions / finalist often lose their team league game right after. Either they celebrate or got discouraged by loss, either way they would be tired and lack prep time.

Well JinAir didn't have a problem with Maru out lol. I can't blame them that badly, I bet KT wasn't expecting Maru to come out so Zest was the best option there. If they knew that Maru would come they obviously wouldn't have sent Zest who is weakest in PvT.

Bad year to be a Zest fan.
He just won the second biggest global tournament of the year... He can suck all year now and still have had a good year 2015...
A good year is relative for a player like Zest. When you hit the peak that he did last year everyone expects more of you and you look 10x worse if you don't continue to keep playing that well. So while he has't been doing bad(he did just win IEM), people expect more of him because he has the ability to be so dominant.
