Here's a preview of tomorrow's Washington vs Chicago match, broadcasted at 7 PM PST!
- University of Washington (3-0) has a lot of history in the CSL, culminating in a championship in the 2014-2015 season. However, they have not been able to replicate their success since then, likely due to the graduation of their former ace player, CSL all-time-great KawaiiRice. In the past two years, they have had trouble against high-powered teams like Temple and Waterloo who have eliminated them from the playoffs.
- University of Washington looks to have a better result this year after acquiring a new up-and-coming freshman player, LambSauce. They have also retained two players from that 2014-2015 championship roster: Zeal, a strong GM Protoss ace, and GarageDoor, a 2v2 specialist. With such a well-rounded team, it’s no wonder that they’ve managed to place in the top 5 of the CSL power rankings.
- Meanwhile, University of Chicago (2-1) is also a school that has participated in CSL from the beginning. However, they have been unable to produce a real breakout season for themselves.
- Chicago has lost one of their most important players from last season to graduation: former team coordinator Tagged. This puts a lot of pressure on their ace, Protoss GM omgabanana, to pretty much win every game he plays. Against a team like Washington, he will need some help from his teammates.
- Last season, the two teams faced each other and the result was 3-1 Chicago. However, we note that this season Chicago has lost a strong player in Tagged while Washington has gained one in LambSauce, so it won’t be as easy for Chicago in this rematch.
- Look out for set 4 to be a pivotal map for both teams. Jayxp and pso are not star players for either squad, but both of their teams need them to come up big in support of their heavy hitters.
- Prediction: Chicago 3-2 Washington.

Here's a preview of tomorrow's UC San Diego vs UC Berkeley match, broadcasted at 7 PM PST!
- UC San Diego (3-0) is a team on the rise. After hitting a low point in the 2015-2016 season and missing the playoffs, UCSD has managed to acquire a set of strong young players.
- Then-freshmen Flume (P) and Liqht (Z) helped UCSD make the playoffs last season (2016-2017), but they were unfortunately eliminated by the powerful University of Waterloo. Now sophomores, these two are looking to build upon what they have achieved.
- Last week, we were surprised by LambSauce of University of Washington, a freshman player who managed to defeat Chicago’s most legendary player, omgabanana. This year, UCSD has an up-and-coming freshman of their own in longzhis (P) (English: DragonGod). UCSD is hopeful that the addition of longzhis can propel them to the next level.
- On the other hand, UC Berkeley (2-1) is the greatest school in CSL history. Thanks to the GOAT, Suppy, they were able to achieve three CSL championships during his time with the team. However, due to the graduation of Suppy and a few others after 2016, Berkeley has had some trouble keeping up in recent times.
- “Form is temporary, class is permanent.” This is what Berkeley will tell itself going into this match. They will be looking for a strong performance from Silky (Z) and Padre (P), both veteran players who have been around for a long time.
- This match has two different stories colliding. One school is on the upswing featuring young, passionate players, while the other is relying on old mainstays who are not necessarily as committed to practicing as much as they were in the past. Berkeley has been the king of the west since the beginning of CSL; will this be the year where a team from the west finally dethrones them?
- Prediction: UC San Diego 3-1 UC Berkeley.

Here's a preview of tomorrow's RIT vs UConn match, broadcasted at 7 PM PST!
- RIT (1-3) enters this match struggling to maintain relevancy after losing last year's superstar ace, Pokebunny, to graduation. They are led by the veteran, ilovecolorin (Z), but they don't really have the firepower to reliably compete anymore.
- Meanwhile, UConn (3-1) is one of the juggernauts of CSL. Last season, they managed to reach the semi-finals off the back of their three great GM Protoss players: Hjax, printf, and TurkeyDano. This year, they have brought back their core and will be looking to improve on their results thanks to the new balance patch.
- Expect UConn's success this season to be determined by the performance of the enigmatic printf (P). This player is a master of using cannon rushes to gain an advantage over his opponents. Thanks to his ingenious play, he has taken games off the best players in the world on the ladder. However, he may run into problems if he encounters opponents who are prepared to counter his strategies.
- Given the current state of RIT, it would be a miracle if they manage to win this series.
- Prediction: UConn 3-0 RIT.

Here's a preview of tomorrow's SFU vs MSU match, broadcasted at 7 PM PST!
- Simon Fraser University (1-2) is an interesting school in the CSL. Although their student population of under 35,000 makes it one of the smaller schools in CSL, they might actually be the only school in North America to have an official Starcraft Club.
- Although the SFU Starcraft Club has over 80 enthusiastic members, they unfortunately do not have a lot of players that have made it past Diamond league. This could be a problem when it comes to actually competing. However, with such a large and supportive community, do not be surprised if a few members manage to greatly improve their skill over time.
- Michigan State (2-1) has had a solid start to their season, with their only loss coming to the deadly University of Waterloo. Although historically not a super competitive team, they have received helped this year from their ace player, Tambi, who has recently reached Grandmaster league.
- SFU definitely has a lot of passion, and eventually we will see this passion translate to wins. At this point, it's not a matter of "if", but "when".

Here's a preview of tomorrow's Michigan State vs Washington match, broadcasted at 7 PM PST!
- Michigan State (3-1) did quite well in the first half, with their only loss coming to the deadly University of Waterloo.
- Once again, Michigan State will rely on their sole Grandmaster player, Tambi (Z), to try to carry them in this series.
- On the other side, Washington (4-0) comes in as the heavy favourites, having achieved a top seed for their performance in the first group stage. With a +9 map differential which leads all schools, they have proven themselves to be a well-balanced force this CSL season.
- Previously, we saw Washington's up-and-coming freshman player, LambSauce (Z), impress as he was able to unexpectedly defeat Chicago's best player, omgabanana. Once again, he will have to face the strongest player on the opposing team; can he make it two in a row?

Here's a preview of tomorrow's UConn vs Waterloo match, broadcasted at 7 PM PST!
- University of Connecticut (4-1) is a juggernaut team in the CSL, featuring three Grandmaster Protoss players: printf, Hjax, and TurkeyDano. Off the back of their strong Protoss play, UConn was able to reach the final four last season.
- Once again, the enigmatic player for UConn is printf (P). This is a player who relies solely on the cannon rush to win games; however, he often runs in to trouble trying to use it against Terran opponents. Will he be able to pull off an upset against his nemesis, Buster?
- Waterloo (4-1) is widely considered to be the second best team in CSL this season. With an incredibly talented roster headlined by THERIDDLER (T) and Buster (T), this group has the most Grandmaster talent out of any school in the CSL.
- Waterloo's clan, aivNA, is one of the most famous on the North America ladder and its members can often be seen in the Grandmaster division. The clan is also notable for carrying many members with the ID "avilo".

Here's a preview of tomorrow's Washington vs Georgia Tech match, broadcasted at 7 PM PST!
- University of Washington (5-0) has risen to the top this season thanks to ace player Zeal (P) and their new up-and-coming freshman, LambSauce (Z).
- Once again, LambSauce is the player to watch. Washington is 8-1 in sets he's played for an 89% win rate. LambSauce already has a couple impressive wins under his belt (Chicago's omgabanana (P) and Michigan State's Tambi (Z)). Look for him to dominate once again.
- Georgia Tech (4-2) is another school that has benefited from a new addition this season, but in a different way. In contrast to Washington gaining a freshman in LambSauce, Georgia Tech welcomes back TheoRy (P), their former ace player from the 2014-2015 season who has returned as a graduate student.
- Georgia Tech has made an interesting lineup decision by putting their best player, TheoRy, in the 4th set. By doing this, they are running a high risk of getting swept. On the other hand, if they can take just one out of the first three maps, they would have a decent chance with TheoRy coming in for sets 4 and 5.
- In the 2v2 set, Georgia Tech is going for their signature lineup, the "Cube Brothers" jiseokcube (P) and BoxedCube (T). Although individually not at the same level as the elite players of the CSL, they do exhibit great teamwork which sometimes helps to overcome their individual deficiencies. They will need to show a great gameplan to defeat Washington's 2v2 team led by LambSauce, however.
- Prediction: Washington 3-0 Georgia Tech.

Here's a preview of tomorrow's RPI vs UOIT match, broadcasted at 7 PM PST!
- RPI (4-2) has had a shaky run so far, as expected. They are blessed to have the best player in the CSL this year, the one and only JonSnow (Z). However, the rest of the team is comprised solely of Diamond players that he has to carry.
- UOIT (2-4) has a roster that is much deeper than that of RPI. For one reason or another, their ace player, Jason (T), has yet to make a meaningful appearance for them, which explains UOIT's terrible record.
- Unfortunately, Jason will not be able to attend this match due to scheduling conflicts. In order to make up for Jason's absence, UOIT will need to have their supporting cast step up. In particular, beaRs (Z), previously a semi-pro player back in Wings of Liberty then known as coLRyze, brings a veteran Starcraft presence to the UOIT squad.
- The most important map of the day will be set 4 between Brilliant (P) of RPI and KeRo (Z) of UOIT. These Diamond players are evenly matched with each other in terms of ranking, and the result of the match will likely be decided through this game.
- For those unaware, the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) is a fairly new school founded in 2002 and is situated in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada.
- Prediction: UOIT 3-1 RPI.

Hey all, just an update about broadcasts: We will now be adding SC2 broadcasts on Thursdays for the rest of the season starting with UConn vs Chicago on Thursday, February 1! Refer to the main post for the full schedule.

Tomorrow we will have a special Thursday cast at 7 PM PST! Here's a preview of UConn vs Chicago!
- UConn (5-2) is looking to rebound after a disappointing sweep against Waterloo. With 3 Grandmaster Protoss players on their roster, it is very rare indeed to see them dominated in that fashion.
- Chicago (4-2) is looking good in the standings thanks to a surprise win against the aforementioned team Waterloo. They have been fielding stronger lineups in the second group stage which has been leading to better results.
- UConn's ace player for this match will likely be printf (P). This cannon rusher will be glad to find that nobody on the other team plays Terran, which is by far the most difficult race to cannon rush. Look for printf to bounce back after dropping a map to Buster in UConn's match against Waterloo.
- Chicago's lineup looks strong throughout. At the top they have ace omgabanana (P), who is probably the strongest overall player in this match. However, it will be tough to win against printf as Protoss in a possible ace set.
- In order to have a chance in this series, Chicago needs a great performance from pso (Z). pso used to be a high master ace player for Chicago back in 2015, but has not played regularly since then. Can pso recapture his old form?
- Prediction: UConn 3-1 Chicago.

Here's a preview of tomorrow's Chicago vs UC Berkeley match, broadcasted at 7 PM PST!
- This is one of the toughest predictions of the season. Both teams come in with evenly matched lineups down to every map. The result of this match will be a key factor in determining playoff seeding.
- Chicago (4-3) is coming in after a narrow 3-2 loss to UConn, where Chicago ace omgabanana (P) was unable to counter the cannon rush from printf (P).
- UC Berkeley (3-3) has definitely underachieved so far this season, but they are now beginning to put forth their maximum effort as the season nears an end. Featuring GMs such as Silky (Z) and IntuitioN (P), this Berkeley lineup is one of the best on paper.
- The key matchup is obviously omgabanana vs Silky. They will play once in set 1 and will potentially meet again in set 5. At the rate this is going, we will likely see an ace match in this series.
- Prediction: UC Berkeley 3-2 Chicago.

Here's a preview of tomorrow's SFU vs Temple match, broadcasted at 7 PM PST!
- We haven't seen Temple (6-1) this season, and probably for good reason: the majority of their matches have been stomps. Previously the runner-up finishers of last season, Temple has benefited from last year's champions, Universite de Montreal, exiting the league this season. Although they have one loss this season, that can mostly be attributed to Tesla (P) sleeping in past 3 PM on game day for that match.
- Last year's champions, Universite de Montreal, gave up on this season after one of their best players, Jig (Z), transferred schools. Although they still had Semper (T), he was unwilling to carry a bunch of low Master and Diamond players through another season.
- Prior to this season, Temple was facing a similar fate with one of their own best players from last season, Raze (T), also transferring schools. They, too, were extremely close to leaving the CSL. However, thanks to a loophole in the CSL rulebook, Temple was able to recruit former UC Berkeley ace Suppy (Z), who happens to be attending medical school at a nearby institution, Thomas Jefferson University. Due to his school's geographical proximity to Temple, Suppy was allowed an exception to play for Temple in the CSL. Since Temple has been able to retain their GM Tesla while also adding Suppy, they are now easily the favourites to win the entire tournament.
- SFU (2-3) is in the middle of the pack at best when it comes to the strength of their Starcraft team. However, they do have one of the biggest, most passionate local communities in the Starcraft scene.
- SFU's best chance to take a game will be in map 2 when they send out the unpredictable Daydreamer (P). Daydreamer recently had a great performance in the TeSPA 1v1 Training Grounds tournament, where he managed to reach the round of 8 before being knocked off by eventual champion Semper, 3-1.
- Prediction: Temple 3-0 SFU.

Here's a preview of tomorrow's Waterloo vs UC Berkeley match, broadcasted at 7 PM PST!
- Waterloo (6-1) has found themselves in a tough situation; thanks to an unexpected loss to omgabanana's UChicago team, they are in danger for their last match of the season against UC Berkeley. The proposition is simple: with a win against Berkeley, Waterloo can take 1st place in their conference. On the other hand, a loss against Berkeley would put Waterloo in 4th place, which would be truly unfavourable.
- UC Berkeley (4-3) is in a similar situation for this match. A win against Waterloo would propel them to 2nd place in their conference, while a loss would punt them down to 4th place. UC Berkeley is facing this peril due to a terrible loss against a weak UCLA team in the previous group stage, where the absence of their best player, Silky (Z), turned a potential 3-2 victory into a 1-3 loss.
- UC Berkeley enjoys the advantage of having the best player on either side, Silky. They will be happy if the series goes to a game 5, where they would likely have Silky up against Waterloo's ace, THERIDDLER (T). However, THERIDDLER has been performing well against Zerg in tournaments lately, notably taking maps off of top Zergs such as Losira and HateMe. An ace match against THERIDDLER would probably rank among the hardest matches of Silky's career.
- Other than THERIDDLER, Waterloo also boasts the legendary CSL player Buster (T), a veteran who has brought fear into the eyes of opposing players for years. UC Berkeley will need to play out of their minds to take a map off of Buster.
- Prediction: Waterloo 3-2 UC Berkeley.

If you're talking about like barcrafts or something, no, I don't think Waterloo region has held any of those for a while unfortunately.
In terms of where do they play, they just play from home most of the time because the games are online. As far as I know most teams don't go out of their way to have fancy meetups for these things, but it does happen occasionally.

BTW Has Waterloo established an official club for SC2, or is that too much effort and time that the current team isn't able to invest? Wasn't CombatEX going to be club advisor?

Here's a preview of tomorrow's UT Austin vs RPI match, broadcasted at 7 PM PST!
- It has already been established in previous broadcasts this season that RPI (5-2) is essentially a solo mission by one dude. RPI has the best player in the CSL, JonSnow (Z), and not much else on their roster.
- As evidenced by his team's decent record of 5-2, JonSnow has done an admirable job of carrying so far. However, the difficulty of his solo runs has been increasing by the week. Against certain teams, RPI's lack of depth may be exposed.
- Although most people would think that JonSnow is disgruntled at having to carry such weak players, he is surprisingly positive about the situation. In a recent article he was quoted as saying, "..our team is unbeatable at the moment. If we lose any games it’s just because we are saving strats for the finals."
- UT Austin (3-3) has had a mediocre start to the season, and the main reason is that they do not have a high tier ace player to count on. Last season, they had Cobalt (Z), but today he is no longer with the team.
- UT Austin employs a much deeper lineup than RPI with three high Master players in redVelvet (T), Isaac (Z), and Timorus (T). RPI will need somebody other than JonSnow to take a map off this group. If RPI pulls out a win, it would probably be in the 2v2 where a well-planned strategy may be able to tip the scale in their favour.
- Prediction: UT Austin 3-1 RPI.

Here's a preview of tomorrow's RPI vs UCSD match, broadcasted at 7 PM PST!
- RPI (6-2) has surprised a lot of doubters so far this season with their success. It was once thought that JonSnow (Z) was the only player who could do damage for RPI; however, it turns out that they have a player who might even be more powerful than JonSnow. That player is the legendary SpaceMen (Z).
- RPI's 2v2 team has exceeded expectations this season and is the main reason they have been able to consistently force ace matches for JonSnow. The combination of tfang (T) and SpaceMen has a 5-1 record for an 83% win rate.
- UCSD (7-0) is trying to finish off their regular season as the only undefeated team left in the CSL. This will be RPI's toughest test since October 28, when they lost to UConn 3-1.
- UCSD has a strong roster including 3 GMs in DragonGod (P), Flume (P), and Liqht (Z). Their ace, DragonGod, is an up-and-coming freshman who has carried UCSD to the next level this season. DragonGod has a perfect 8-0 map record, including an impressive win against UC Berkeley star Silky (Z) in an ace match.
- The 2v2 will surely be the deciding factor for this match. UCSD's team of Liqht (Z) and Cloak (Z) is surely stronger than the average opponent, but RPI's squad has shown they are well-prepared for 2v2 matches.

We will be back this week with two bonus matches that were not originally scheduled! First will be UT Austin vs UOIT on Tuesday!
- This is an extremely important match which will determine the final playoff spot for the 2017-2018 CSL season. One of these teams will make the playoffs while the other is knocked out.
- UT Austin (3-4) has a really solid team. Their ace player, GM Timorus (T), is always a threat and he is backed up by high master players in Isaac (Z) and Sangjin (T). However, they are in this position today due to their inability to put away RPI last week, when their 2v2 team did not perform up to par.
- UOIT (2-5) also seems like they should have a better record than they have. Led by GM Jason (T), they also boast a former semi-pro in beaRs (Z), who was previously known as Ryze of Complexity Gaming.
- UOIT's poor record can be explained through a variety of excuses; in the end, it was the combination of key players being unable to show for certain matches and also under-performing in the games they did manage to play.
- Thanks to the CSL's tiebreaker rules, UT Austin only needs to win 2 maps in order to qualify for the playoffs; they are fine if they lose 2-3. On the other hand, UOIT needs to win the series 3-1 or 3-0 in order to qualify.
- Prediction: UOIT 3-2 UT Austin
