It will be awesome. But lot of zergs on this tournament so he can go out early, I hope he makes a good perf before the nerf

Hopefully that works out better than SHOUTcraft Kings did at Blizzcon last year when they played on the test patch and Zerg went undefeated. I'm sure the event will be great regardless, but it will be less fun if there is some unbalanced timing that turns one or more match up into something impossible to win.

I like living in Canada because of the free health care whenever a foreigner crashes and burns.
Unfortunately I won't be able to watch most of the first two days, but I think it's very interesting to see the testmap in a competetive environment before the release, couldn't have a better way of testing!

The patch isn't live yet, the test map changes were on the front page months ago.
Why are HSC playing them then? That's a lot of money that could be won with something that might be completely broken.
Why wouldn't they? HSC is barely about a competitive SCII tournament. It's SCII entertainment, and seeing the design changes in action for the first time is certainly entertaining. Besides, they're going live in a week anyway. No reason not to play them now.
I have no problem with this if the changes are confirmed to be final, I'd just blame Blizzard if it's going to be protoss OP. But if they're not confirmed changes, I can get how a few people could complain...

It's just more interesting and the patch goes live next week without any chages until then most likely.
The real balance will only be achieved after some tournaments with money have been played on the new patch. Until then the players won't show off the brokes stuff.
Here are the patch notes, some stuff has changed though I think.

Final, as in the changes will go live like this next week. Tons of balance changes will be coming in the coming months for sure though.
You won't be able to balance a new patch before it goes live. No pros play the test map without tournaments and ladder running the new patch.

Nydus is armored too right? Should be possible to focus it down quite effectively.
Especially if you get an early forge. Stalkers get +2 vs armored for every attack upgrade. At +1 attack, stalkers absolutely wreck anything roach based. At +2 they can probably fight ultras head on, lol.
Also didn't try any of the early gateway chronoboost things, but I heard they're good.
I think Elazer plays comletely different than Stephano.
He just goes brute force with ling/hydra with great micro, macro and aggression an all fronts while Stephano was looking to get to infestors and spread creep everywhere every game I think.
So that practice vs Stephano might not be too helpful right now unless Harstem gets to the late game.

How is uThermal up 2-0?
Game 1: uThermal sieged up Neeb's 5th and Neeb didn't handle it well at all (he didn't have enough immortals, air, or even chargelots) which then turned into a funky base trade which uThermal won pretty decisively. Game 2: Neeb scouted the lack of barracks in uThermal's main but handled the proxy reapers poorly. (he maybe chrono'd probes when he needed another stalker)
Neeb lost game 4 due to a pure bio (no medivac) attack on his 3rd. He tried to build some shield batteries, but with his low DPS, smaller army, they couldn't hold up against bio DPS.

He played to sloppy with his build tho, multiple oracles, no SCV damage, even losing some. Uthermal just made units on 2 bases and Neeb had nothing to stop it, I don't thing even the MsC would've mattered, except Uthermal would have gotten a few less marines to have medivacs.

Neeb looked like someone who doesn't have a lot of experience with the new patch and maps. I wouldn't read too much into balance based on his games.

IT would be ok-ish if fungal didn't had such a big radius. I think the extra damage to air can be tonned down but getting 3/3 would be so bad considering that pre patch they were never used.

Time to look towards the next games. Patience vs Solar, Jjakji vs PtitDrogo, and MaNa vs Lambo. Gotta bet some money while I'm sitting here being bored at work.
Zerg scouting got better even without considering the speed buff due to the mothership core not being readily available to shoo away the overlords hanging on the overlord spots. I wonder if there's a way to abuse that with a fast liberator.

I think koreans just play more confident in longer series because they know they're bettwr and getting cheesed won't be enough to eliminate them. Whereas in bo3 you get cheesed 1 time and suddenly your 1 game from losing the series.

So you're probably our next 50k poster...
this changes everything indeed
I find that thread is a bit slow to be honest, which is probably why I also don't have 50k posts yet.

Gotta live up to the name of Ziggurat Of Ur you know.
Fair enough, but this is easily one of the top 8 anime plot twists of all time.
I'm pretty sure I've mentioned it in an LR before... But it does come up once in a while--even had a guy PM me as the 'only other Assyrian' on this site.

10k coming up
I haven't prepared anything. Shellshock's 100k will be just as underwhelming as this.
I bet his 100k will be
"lol"

You've missed years of amazing discussions such as "Is the author wrong about his own work?", "Is ice a state of matter?", and of course the everlasting question of whether or not Enel is the greatest existence in the One Piece universe.

You only chose the metric of offline Bo5 because it artificially deflates the winrate of the foreigners due to all the games with lower level foreigners (as if it needs any deflating). Statistically speaking the difference between a Bo3 and a Bo5 is just something like 5%.
From a pure win% standpoint, I can see how the difference between bo3 and bo5 is minimal. But when it comes to actual players there seems to be a big difference. It's much easier to catch someone of guard with 2 allins than 3. And generally players will have more time to adapt to their opponent, and in many cases take the match more seriously
The preparation is the bigger bit imo, since Bo5 are usually big tournament games. But if you look a things like TING groups or HSC I don't think the results look too different from if they were Bo3s.
Foreigners have no problems winning bo3's as shown at Blizzcon and IEM Katowice
You're comparing only a few dozen series though--I don't think you can draw meaningful conclusions from that.

Well this Blizzcon they have taken more bo3s than they have taken bo5s the entire year

They also played about as many bo3s as bo5s were played all year.

why are Z skipping those? no raven threat?
Overlords are faster. Widow mines are revealed after shooting. Raven harass is no longer an option.
Wow this went exactly how I imagined PvP when I first heard the changes. Except that they didn't rush the first two adepts into the opponent's mineral line. Not encouraging.
As a question, will VODs of this tournament ever appear on youtube and if so where/when? My current net arrangement is quite anti-twitch as much as I am trying to watch live >.<

I wonder if double proxy immo with one of those things that regen shields is going to be broken as fuck, cause it sure feels like it should be in theory.

Maybe but succesfully proxying the shield batteries far enough forward to be useful sounds difficult, especially when your opponent has shield batteries. Also you might lose all your workers to oracles in the meantime.

Sorry I was thinking of PvT, should have mentioned it. In PvP it should run into the same issues as it did in the last patch, as you point out.

I think you should definitely do so on ladder at the very least. Defending stuff is way harder than killing their stuff.
I meant in this particular tournament. I understand the guys haven't done full testing in the amount of time given (or any testing) but it'd be cool to see how they juggle the unit changes, at least in the early game.

Well this is the first PvP we've seen. In other match-ups people have been going for more stalkers generally due to the changes.

woah they released a new album last year lmao
what a find
I mean, good for them, I didn't expect that. The 90's was a magical time.
Drogo had the stalkers behind the mineral line when jjakji was dropping by the gateways then the stalkers by the gateways when jjakji was dropping behind the mineral line. RIP.
When does Charoisaur make a post about how today foreigners have more than doubled their number of wins in offline bo5s against Koreans since last years Blizzcon?

Current consensus seems to be Z > P > T with zerg late game being very good, but I wouldn't draw any conclusions yet. There wasn't any one build that seemed unstoppable or anything.

The results looked more balanced than I expected, but sometimes results are misleading as to how the game actually feels.

They get a bit repetitive sometimes. Hating on foreigners is fine I guess, but it's also a low hanging fruit. If there's some creativity thrown in, some nuanced hatred, then it's pretty good. But this isn't the highest skilled shitposting era, no matter what people say.
