Maru-sOs at IEM was such an interesting match. I hope their GSL face-off is of similar quality. I'm hoping Maru wins again, and actually I think it's the most likely outcome, but this is one of those matches that I think could wind up with any score. We could see a 3-0 in either direction. But I think we'll see 2-3 with a nail-biting final game.
Back in Heart of the Swarm, one would have had to wait at least thirty minutes before seeing a Protoss air fleet pace nervously in front of a wall of Spore Crawlers like this. The future is truly filled with wonders.
Zest essentially saw this coming from the three minute mark, and yet... It definitely feels like he should have been able to hold that. I wonder if he saw it early enough to build a robo instead of a stargate.
Well since Protoss can't open anything other than stargate nowadays, a few queens and spores at your gate are basically invincible. Robo opening would crush this rush but no one would do that or they die to ling drop/ling flood.

That build essentially telegraphs itself though. I think he could have noticed that it was a proxy hatch early enough to build a robo instead.

Zest isn't allowed to cannon rush ever again.
Sounds like a story I can't remember. Could you provide a link?

People should stop throwing shit in the ocean
But they're immensely scaled up, so I'm pretty sure they're not supposed to be tires. I expect it's meant to be some sort of submarine mineral formation, but I don't know what.

It's obviously an artistic representation of the disproportionate influence littering has on fragile marine ecosystems

Abyssal has been in the map pool for so long that it started degrading.

Didn't know they play 3 games on Neon Violet Square

Has beat Maru with it in pretty average fashion on Catalyst and in 400 IQ fashion on Abyssal.
What the hell was Maru supposed to do there? He did a ton of harass damage, played super safe with the low-mineral third. Yet sos just goes ahead and takes 4 real bases while simultaneously being able to make twice as many units.
- looses an oracle to unstimmed marines in front of the terran's natural - scouts the marine moveout with a probe - looses a phenix to said marines for no reason - doest forcefield in time and gets surprised while fighting out of range of his shield batteries

SoS best protoss rofl
Yeah, sOs made a fuckton of mistakes in unit control

NAILED IT.
Not a bad night though, I really really like the semi-final lineup. Cheering for SoO

To be fair that phoenix wouldn't have done anything for him should it lived.

Haha! Yeah, that last game was unexpected. Their IEM match was a bit better, I think. But I did find it interesting to see them square off overall still.
Yeah, I tend to agree with the overall sentiment here that soO, Dark or Maru winning the whole thing would be a positive. - Obviously would be a first for these guys as well as something that's been far too long in the making...
lmao at that last game. Okay, think we now have a good snapshot of what Maru vs sOs looks like. Don't need anymore of that.
3/4 for ro8. Damn it sOs -_-
oh well, Maru makes things more interesting now. We got two former finalists on one side and two guys who have never been to a GSL final despite being incredibly good on the other. inb4 Maru crushes soO's dreams again.

Yep. And yet, it was a very close series, only 3-2. Reminds me of IEM where SoS had poor unit control but still almost won against Maru in a close series. I hope Blizzard fixes TvsP. You just have to play perfectly as Terran to beat Protoss at the top level (and by perfectly, I mean literally - refer to Rotti's breakdown of how Maru had to pull off the perfect battle to beat SoS when Maru was down supply at IEM).

Stats winning would mean Soo won't have to lose another final. Also he would maybe get his due respect after winning 3rd star league title that other guys can get by winning none.

Why the fact that you have to play perfectly being down so much supply to have a chance at winning surprising at all? I thought it should be that way? I guess your point is Terran should have an equal chance down so much supply by playing sub optimally.

No. Dark vs Zest was pretty average, and Maru vs sOs was quite bad.
Dark vs Zest games 1 and 4 were pretty cool
I guess game 1 was pretty good. I wasn't too fond of game 4 though personally--too much passivity and doing the Abyssal Reef skytoss vs late game zerg routine.
Fuck didn't know it was today! Maru won? The fucking savior of terran, it would be such an incredible feat if he managed to win GSL in such dark times.
Last game sos with so many micro mistakes. I guess something must have gone off plan. As others mentioned:
Lost oracle and phoenix for no reason Oracle didn't do anything at Maru's base although it could have easily sniped scvs (especially the one building a structure)
on abyssal, why zest didn't spam cannons and shield batteries like dark spammed spores? Ofc it would be super boring, but with recalls and some place to retreat zest could have traded more efficient and maybe won.

I agree. I've seen a strat where you basically make an outpost with massive matrix of pylons, shield batteries, and cannons, so that you can safely hold down a decent location in the middle of the map. That is a better way to spend minerals than saving for a total re-max that everyone knows isn't gonna happen.
On March 11 2018 01:00 Fanatic-Templar wrote: Ha ha ha, what was that final game? It felt like 2010 when the Protoss would miss a Force Field on their ramp and Terran just walks up and wins.
Most pros a liable to make mistakes like that, just depends where they're looking at the time really. That being said sOs was on tilt already that game.

Good point re re-max that never happens. I wonder if shield battery play works.
I always thought it was a bad idea to play 20NR against Zerg? Their tech switches are made for ultra late game

Definitely agree and I assume Zest made a mistake there/didn't know what to do. I mean even pros are not perfect and don't play that much late game compared to early/mid game. But maybe there is a reason why and Zest knows better, I doubt it though.
