A little while ago on my stream, we got into a discussion about weird extension mods and maps in Starcraft 2. Mr_G_W decided it would be hilarious to put together an extension mod named “Nuclear Launch,” and mLtySC decided he’d be a sick nerd baller and put up $100 to sponsor a showmatch between PartinG and RagnaroK. Thanks to a contribution by the amazing DSK, the prize pool has been increased to $150 ($115/$35 Split) and I'll be running an opening match between FuturE and Silky which will be a Bo5 for $50 ($35/15 split)!
What is Nuclear Launch?
In the Nuclear Launch extension mod, the players will play on normal ladder maps, with one twist: nukes will drop randomly with increasing frequency at randomized locations around the map (excluding main base locations). Every minute, more nukes will fall and the craziness will increase exponentially. It’ll be a wild ride as we see how the players try to adapt to the situation. It should be available to try out on all servers at this point titled "GW - Nuclear launch".
When: May 2nd, 8:30 PM EST May 3rd, 2:30 AM CEST, 9:30 AM KST
Where: I’ll be casting the showmatch on my channel at www.twitch.tv/pengwin_sc. The players are also welcome to stream their FPV on their respective channels: www.twitch.tv/partingbigboy and www.twitch.tv/sc2_ragnarok.

I'll put in $50.00, hit me up yo.

holy crap that sounds like a scary mod, but it will harden someone like who panicks when I have to deal nukes. That's gonna be a fun watch!

I know of a really good platform for that.

Parting is showmatching it up! Love it!

awesome idea for a mod! obviously neither of these players is terran, but i think mech would have the worst time with this mod - repositioning siege units and losing turrets seems like it would be a problem. i'd love to see more showmatches with this mod

but doesn't really make zerg at a deficit?

Slight time change: It will be happening 30 minutes earlier than previously announced. Time updated in OP. There will also be another Best of 5 between Future and Silky prior to the Parting vs Ragnarok match thanks to based god DSK.

I'm looking forward to this

When and where VoD?

Also, who else misses showmatches like this where you had a featured one and then a "who the hell is this" warm-up match. 2011 I miss you so

Future and Silky make a pretty legit undercard match. Future especially is being hyped up by everyone as the young up and coming NA player to watch.

It's too bad Ragnarok won't be able to play, but I'm still hyped for Kane.

Super fun first series. For anyone interested in VODs I highly recommend checking out game 2 on Backwater.
Ragnarok's internet is dead, so he will be replaced by Kane to face Parting in a few minutes

Thanks for organising this, PengWin! Looking forward to watching the VODs.

Just watched. Was pretty good. I really do think that very non-standard and occasional batshit crazy maps like New Polaris Rhapsody and this are required if people don't want the scene to do die. Great mechanical play on a standard 1v1 map in GSL finals in great but new these kind of things are needed to create OH SHIT moments, generate discussion and intrigue new players.

This is a great point. Many friends of mine ended up playing competitively/competitive game types after starting out in the casual ones.

If it's too nonstandard, it will end up on the ban list, and people won't want to play it. I like nonstandard maps, but those maps have a tendency to be widely imbalanced and hated by at least one of the races.

No one is talking about ladder, however maps that aren't the same standard 4 corners or opposite end fortress maps are needed. Maps like Ulrena for example are required. When you actually think about it, we've been playing the same 2 or 3 maps for the past 6 years for the most part. They've just been reskinned and slightly tweeked to avoid someone calling them out for it

I think you might have misunderstood my point somewhat, but I see where you're coming from.
I've seen many TL forum goers say they started off in UMS, team leagues or AI bashing. Its gettimg that initial interest. Some in Quake 3/Live might start off in public DM/CTF servers (or crazy stuff like Mr Pant's Overkill mod) and end up playimg CPM/competitive duel.
Having said that, too much variety and competitive elements get drowned out.
