"When I was a teenager, I spent 4-5h per day playing Broodwar and got placements in some local tournaments. I was respected as a great Broodwar player, but my parents regarded me as a “lost teenager”. Later in life, after a degree in psychology and three years in a Danish Reconnaissance unit, I found myself building a business in the online space of selling images for websites, designs etc. The decision making I had trained so much in my Broodwar days suddenly became useful again, and as my business grew, and market positioning, timing and when to invest became important, I definitively had an upper hand. Starcraft, over any other game, trains your mind to think logically, and make decisions fast that are decisive and potent. Useful stuff! Now its about giving back to my beloved Starcraft, which this tournament is about. I hope you enjoy, and if you meet me online in the high diamond/low masters ranked games…. Don’t snow mercy. I need the training! " - Yuri Arcurs, Founder, PeopleImages.com

HYPE! What an amazing caster line up. So excited for this!!
|
You should do an event with Mcanning and colttarren to see how closely they sound like each other.
|
No matcherino for this? What does the $6000+ mean in the header image?
Did I understand this correctly: each group stage player gets $50 and only $50, regardless of maps won (or if participating in 2 groups)?

Looks hype!! Super excited to watch!! And that would be hilarious FrkFrJss, haha

Haven't undestood the format, excited to watch it and find out!

I find it so difficult when these threads dont include liquipedia links. Totally accustomed to going to the thread for them ^^
Does anyone have a link to the liquipedia thread? I can't find it.

Update regarding the Reynor 10-0 situation:
After long discussions with the sponsors on how to handle the incredible and rare 10-0 that we experienced, we've realized it's a much larger conversation and we certainly need to create a proper plan for next season should this happen again. To simplify things for now, we'll be inviting a player of the sponsors choosing from the 2 EU groups that played, and they will be directly placed into the Ro8. That player will be Harstem!

Ah, sad for HeRoMaRinE and his 3-1

I honestly think inviting Harstem is unfair towards other players. Especially towards those who had a better record than Harstem e.g. Heromarine, Serral, uThermal. Harstem played twice yet failed to take a map if I recall correctly. Other players performed better with only 1 life so to speak.
Nevertheless I unterstand that this is an extremely difficult situation to handle and finding a solution which satisfies everyone is probably impossible.

I think the decision fits well with the overall system. For the players it is unfair to begin with. Might have been refreshing for the viewers, but honestly, koth is a bad format for qualifiers...

In part, I think it's out of design than anything else. I don't think they said that they were trying to hold "fair" qualifiers. And knowing past BTTV events, they have often held "fair" qualifiers (BTSL Vancouver, for instance). Now, if the players feel it is unfair, they can choose whether or not to play, but a bo1 does favour the weaker player in terms of upsets.

I agree with you koth is unfair format, but making something even more unfair and inviting a seemingly random person is more unfair. I would've been happier if they made it truly random (though there are better ways to do things). And I have nothing against harstem, I think he is an entertaining player to watch.

Should've played a FFA between all the tied players

We'll go with majority vote of the players (my vote being a tie breaker) discussing with them today.

The cast was So Damn Funny today.

Impressed by Reynor's resilience. He managed to come back game 1, and hung on to a completely lost game 2 for 10 minutes.

HeroMarine is so good, i hope he can qualify for the Blizzcon

This is totally awesome. Rifkin as Host/dedicated observer i assume and 2 super knowledgable casters, this is better than WCS production wise atm.

He commonly gets offline jitters but I think he is definitely one of the strongest foreign terrans rn, would love to see him do well. I remember talking to him very briefly at WCS Montreal 2016 and how happy I was about his run and he had no idea how to react because he didnt expect to make semis.

Why do you think that? The only offline tournaments he didnt do at least okay in the last 18 months were homestory cups and the IEM in Korea. Other than HSC’s he only played IEM Katowize in 2017. He reached groupstage, where he nearly got into the playoffs.
In 2018 he played both in WCS Leipzig, the IEM in Korea and IEM Katowize this far. (And has qualified for WCS Austin.) He got eliminated in the Ro16 by Neeb in WCS Leipzig. (At that time TvP was utter bullshit. BTW he only lost that single match in that tournament.) At the IEM in Korea he got eliminated by Kela. But Gabriel still had jet-lag. And in IEM Katowice he again reached the groupstage. Even won against Elazer in said groupstage and only loosing to Koreans.
I dont see ‘offline jitters‘

Wow sick reverse sweep congrats Heromarine!!
Well played by Reynor but drop play really is his vice it seems.
