Can't sleep on ByuN. He may have got his shit pushed in by Classic, but he made a ro8 last season. Impact is just good in ZvP and is hungry for a ro16 placing
Voting with my heart which I know I shouldn't but why the hell not? Parting and Zest to advance. Though I think its more realistic for Parting and Byun. Byun's style is good against Zest but Parting wouldn't let him get outta the early game. However I think Zest will go through to the winner's match.
For the record that's why Has put his sentry on the map the other day, because if you keep it in the base a bunch of stuff can easily target it and then you have no information
Zest made that look easy but he played that last game really well, that was hard. He had to sacrifice his adepts at the right moment to break in, he had to split the dts, he had to block the probe going into his base, and his positioning on the dark shrine was perfect. If almost anyone else had played that build against him, Parting would have defended.
Also, the way he attacked on the second game was so solid. He kept his units from dying, sniped Partings units, and found a way to split them away from the shieldbatteries. If he keeps playing like this, Maru is going to have a challenge.

Maru seems to be winning no matter what he does. Early tank pushes, normal bio, lategame with Ghost-Liberator. I think the answer is just being better? I have some trouble applying that to my own ladder games though

They don't open their games with a scouted 3rax vs pool first
So what? ByuN had like 140 army supply to 120 but his army couldn't do much. Same when he had 2-2 against 1-1 but could not beat Impact's army. Ghosts would be nice but on such a huge map you lose mobility.
Or you mean that you need to be ahead after your build to have a shot?
Maru beat Leenock 2-1 so I guess we need to wait for next GSL matches to have more data But barely beating Leenock when you are the best player in the world doesn't fare well for the MU
That game one. Oof. By 10 minutes both players were neck and neck, then Impact started making really poor counter attacks and Byun stopped teching. It was like a race to see who could make the worst series of choices.

Git gud.
Nah, I'm fine with being a scrub for the most part. Makes it all the more fun to watch the actual good players

the only way Byun could have won that was a 3-3 maxed timing but Impact starting counter-attacking at the perfect time to keep Byun back and buy enough time. Really good decision making there by Impact
I'm pretty shocked we didn't see the standard tank push on Dreamcatcher. It's one of the more challenging things for Z in this matchup, on that map. And what makes it so irritating is Terrans with perfect control can just get away with it. I believe part of Impacts decision to go up so hard with mutas is to play against those cliffs.
But we didn't see that fast tank push, and barely saw any hop-scotching over cliffs from the micro god. I suspect Byuns going to have trouble getting out of group if his micro isn't razor sharp and he relies on it to carry him again.

These maps aren't particularly big, must be your imagination. Lost and Found and Dreamcatcher are both smaller than King Sejong Station.

Nicely done by Impact Hopefully ByuN beat the protosses

Well, impossible to say if ByuN wanted to do that at some point, but he was put in a horrible spot by the CC cancel.

I think from seeing both matches together, Byun really wanted to just out-micro and constantly attrition his way through by always coming off better in fights. He didn't get that result and his game plan suffered for it.

Seems like a terrible plan for someone who struggles so much with marine splits.
Jesus that timing. You do that same thing, but 30 seconds later and you're in just a world of pain. Storms crap all over your hydras and you're not making headway. You're just churning and making cost ineffective trades.
I cannot stress enough that Impacts timing was as razor thin as it possibly could have been and the madman did it.

He managed to still get stormed to hell lol and I can't believe how sloppily he managed his lurkers. I don't think any of them completed burrowing.

That's exactly what made it nuts. I'm confident that if those storms were there at the start of the engagement Impact would have either backed off or just churned and the game would have gone on neck and neck, or worse.
Parting does not lose to a mere Terran ! Man, I hope Maru and Parting will be in the same group, that would be hilarious. Not so good for Maru, but great entertainment for sure :D

parting's micro was never "pretty". he's not a player like byun whose smooth movements with individual units gain him small advantages. parting's micro is based on a deep understanding of how far he can go with his units and not overcommit, like moving stalkers forward to go for a snipe and keeping them alive, and segmenting armies correctly with force fields so he can trade well. his micro is ugly but effective

Byun is the nice horse owner who takes loving care of all his horses, while PartinG is the hard-driving arsehole who whips all his horses and pushes them to their physical limits, before discarding them.

He might have but I feel like there were decisions that held more blame than misclicks.
Yeah of course, always been the case. But his playstyle might have been bad for his longevity as much as it was the best playstyle for the viewers that like showoff type micro such as me.

It was literally in GSTL under the same name.
I'm sorry for not remembering every single map that has been used over the past 8 years.

It's not about every map, it's about the map that produced this game:

Yeah PartinG's PvT is miles ahead of his other matchups right now, awesome to see Impact advance and I am still not a believer in Zest
