awesome stuff, thanks Colbi!
Thanks very much for this, definitely useful
So is he going to give mostly advice towards zerg players, or does he also give some tips/pointers to other races? Thank you for these! Will definitely look over a few of them :D
Edit: ooh. he gives certain details as to why his opponents do certain things. Pretty cool.
awesome, gonna eat this up. ty!
definitely useful! thanks for posting colbi. I would advise any player to watch these as they give very thorough insight into these matchups and maps
Really nice, keep up the good work Mr.Fields

I've been trying to find all of these thinking I've missed some, and I did. Thanks for putting this together.

Cool idea and initiative. But the ads are too aggressive and there are too many of them Also, no HD ? Or Youtube is encoding them ? Hope it gets improved soon, keep it up !

Sweet!!! I am speechless! The quality is great, he sounds great, and he is providing great analysis in the games. What else can we ask for?!
IdrA ftw!

Excellent analysis of the games. I like how he focuses entirely on engagements, tactics, and economy whereas Day[9] focuses more on overall strategy and metagame concepts.
My only concern is the way he moves his camera. Mouse scrolling makes the viewing experience very jagged. My eyes can't follow what he's talking about. It's better to use the arrow keys to move around and then use the mouse as a highlighting tool for what he's talking about. This smooths out the camera for me and makes it much easier to watch.
Wow, that's really awesome! Can't wait to go through them better when I've got some time.
Holy crap, this is awesome! I look forward to watching all of this. I love watching Idra, he has a lot of great insight.
Edit: Also I don't think the advertisements were that big of a deal, gotta make a living somehow, and it's not like we're watching this for constant action, just for learning's sake.

Haha those are cool videos.
I bought some Kingston HyperX just because of this
These are really cool. mad props to Idra for doing this, its a really good community building thing imo.
Don't know if this has been mentioned, but the IdrA vs KiWiKaki game on scrap station links to idra vs qxc
I have to say, the picture with IdrA and sparkles shooting off of it is quite interesting.

awsome hd quality next time :D

Great Stuff Greg. Keep it up ^^

The ad guy talking about the Kingston hyper X sounds like DJwheat don't you think.
awesome banner and great vods!
Thanks for posting, too bad theres ads, but because there are ads its free. :D [Edit] I would also like to say the background music is pretty chill. I love it.
Awesome, will be watching this later tonight after GSL
Message to IdrA: I love your commentary. I defer to you.
This is awesome.
Good to see him contributing a lot to the community; maybe it will help clear up the bad reputation he seems to have with a lot of people.
This is great but I wish you could leave out that monotone repeating elevator music that's on all the videos. Getting on my nerves.
Anyone else think DJ Wheat is doing the intro/ad to these videos?
On January 29 2011 12:26 TheDemigod wrote: Anyone else think DJ Wheat is doing the intro/ad to these videos?
He is.
Is he going to release newer games? 'Cause these are sorta old still relevant, but There aren't a lot of videos.
It's actually funny watching him "teach", sure he knows what he's talking about, but, well, He's like a teacher that has a masters from yale, but never interacts with the students and says "listen to me, I'm a genius, NO QUESTIONS."
Although, as a complaint, I REALLY think you should upload higher quality videos. They kind of look ugly the way they are now.

free with ads is not bad, you can skip the ones at the beginning & end
He is actually a very good caster hehe
the background music is driving me insane, can't enjoy the videos as much as i could have :/
wow, something that makes me almost have respect for idra. i still feel his scouting needs work and the predictability of his play creates issues against observant opponents and somewhat boring (for me) to watch. but it's interesting to see his justification of his very map specific strategies.
if the ads bother you they're extremely easy to skip by scrolling forward, and if you care that much about the quality of the vids, i'm pretty sure you can find most of these matches elsewhere and maybe synch up and sub in that video on mute (though you'll likely need to subscribe to various tournament casts). i'd be very surprised if idra loses any of these anyway.
Thanks for the collection. Idra insight is always appreciated.

That probably explains it. Probably.
Awesome! I saw one of these videos a while back but had forgotten about them. I'm just getting back into playing SC2 after 2.5 months off, so this should really help. I'm definitely rusty.
Someone mentioned that a section or thread should be made for all professional gamer help given to us normal people, this should definitely happen :D
Love the videos! Very well-produced and professional. Great strategy + tactics explanation. I like the detail he goes into with what to deduce from limited scouting information.
Only improvement would be if he could remove fog (have full vision of the map) while Idra is explaining the map overview as the game starts as I'm not that familiar with all the maps yet, and it's a bit hard for me to see/figure out exactly what he's pointing at sometimes.
Also, maybe using some of the replay hotkeys (production, army, supply, harvesters, etc) would help to explain his point better about how is economy is dominating or how he has more units but not a critical mass yet, for example. It's very pro how he can remember everything, but might be easier to follow if we can see production all the time .
The videos get this awkward atmosphere with that ugly green screen, bad editing when IdrA is finishing a sentence and staring straight into the camera like 1 or 2 seconds before the cut. Also, the music is annoying crap.
But the cause of these videos is really good tho, but It can be improved so much. It's kinda wierd how EG have been doing this type of videos for at least 2 years but in CS 1.6 and they look exactly the same without any improvements at all. :O
;D shameless advertisement... hahaha
but great commentary and explanation. he doesn't sound/look that happy tho o.o
Idra loves doing pro tips. And he loves corn.

Very nice, I've seen most of these already, but its always great to look back on some great feedback from the internets favourite kraken.

I found all of these vids very helpful. Thanks for sharing. I knew about a few but didn't know there were so many.

IdrA plays zerg, he loses when he cheeses because of 1 marine. Where have you been lately?

IdrA plays zerg, he loses when he cheeses because of 1 marine. Where have you been lately? almost every loss i've ever seen from idra has been due to poor scouting of 2port banshee/void rays or overdroning and not dealing with pressure (he also occassionally throws units into a meat grinder while mistakenly believing he's waring down his opponent's front who in actuality is suffering much lower losses than idra, but i can honestly only think of two replays where he's done this, just the rarity of getting replays of him makes this seem like a more common mistake than i think it actually is).
he's seriously amazing at macro, but i personally (though i understand people disagree) don't find his play particularly interesting to watch when he frequently bms or makes mistakes i find glaring early game like not properly placing a scouting overlord.
Idra is doing pretty awesome. A bit dry and emotionless, but I guess that's just how he is. Nevertheless it's some great insight and really helpful for anybody imho.
On the other hand I'm quite disappointed by the sponsors - not only is the sheer amount of unnecessarily forced commercials astonishing, but also the video quality is way too bad, especially considering it's an ad stuffed VOD. I want to be able to clearly read the resource and food count - therefore video quality needs to improve and you also might want to not cut off the top most pixels of the picture.
Good work guys (Wheat, Idra, Kingston, EG)! Really love the content, and the idea behind it.
Brother Mack reallllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllly surprised me on the youtube related links. Good times, gotta give it up.
awesome awesome videos. IdrA seems to be pretty monotone so its easy to understand and pretty humorous. thanks OP
Best thing about Idra is he's direct and doesn't inflate his videos with BS or fluff. Straight to the point, and he makes lots of good points and provides great insight. Aside from the occasional BM Idra's the man!
Thank you for this post! Great information from IdrA. It's most useful for Zerg, but I like how he comments occasionally on what his opponents could do.
I also think this is a great way for sponsors to support players. It generates revenue for players and serves as a great resource for the community.
I saw a couple of these videos before-hand on EG's website. It really helped me understand a lot what to do when I see certain builds, especially against Protoss.
something like this i would like to see of the BW pros.
thank you Idra for making these amazing video! I didn't really mind the adds like some, if you are giving me free content I understand having ads.
Aw, I came to this thread thinking it was sarcastic. (e.g. IdrA vs Drewbie protips)
Really looking forward to these, I've always liked Idra because he focuses so much on improving his mechanics and fundamentals and doesn't use cheese or FOTM builds. It sometimes holds back his tournament play (I'm glad to see that he all-ins every once in a while now, to keep his opponent off guard) but when you're focusing on improving your game, that's the right attitude.
The music is weirdly awesome. Sounds like something that could be used in the beginning of a porn movie, but at the same time is very chilled, and increases IdrA's awesomeness. I like it =)
Note: If you hear some worrisome noises, that sound a bit like a dying hard drive - then you most probably can relax now - the noises are coming from those videos :D
So it's either their hard drive dying or maybe just a really really loud mechanical clock^^ (well, actually it stops for a few seconds sometimes... so I guess - not a clock *g*)
Fucking awesome! Love IdrA!!!!!!
IdrA ftw, best way to learn the game from someone who has been their and done that. Great post
I appreciate all this. I love you, IdrA!
Thanks for sharing, I've already seen a few of them and some of the tips are very helpful, going to finish the rest now!
Would be awesome if any Top Protoss would do the same.
You can learn so much when a pro analyses his own game
I enjoy watching IdrA to a backing of porno music. A lot of real information to be gained from these videos, and not just raw info. you get actual reasoning.. thought processes, things that can take years to develop alone
This is really excellent, showing how much thought goes into decisions in game. Thanks a lot, Idra!
Any chance of doing this with Korean games?
Edited because GSL obviously has GOM rights issues, but maybe a ladder game against other GSl players...

I've watched 3 replays so far, are there ANY where IdrA loses or comes in danger of losing? Everything I see so far is one-sided. I would prefer some replays of him on the Korean ladder, recent games.

Well he loses vs Kiwikaki in one game. Iirc it was on Blistering Sands and a lesson about not being greedy
Thanks alot OP, and of course, thanks IdrA, lets hope you make more in the future(:

Priceless analysis, I'd be excited for this regardless of who the pro was doing self-analysis.

Thanks a lot, these videos will help my play for sure. I love Idra's insight on the game.

Thanks for these videos, I just finished watching the last of them.

This is some useful content, but the question of quality is something that shouldn't be ignored. 480p!? Really!? There is no reason not to upload an HD resolution.

It's sad that people are so used to 1080p shoutcasts on youtube, that something completely different has to conform to the same set of standards.

is there Killer 2100 Gaming Network Card actually going to help any more than a regular network card? I mean we have bnet, opponents lag, as well as our ISP that we have no control over whatsoever.

It works by setting up the priority of gaming related packages over other things your computer sends&recieves. Gives you a tiny advantage for much money, that you don't really need if you're not playing FPS games at super high level. And by super high I mean cyborg. Important if you often get killed because you have a latency of 50ms instead of 47ms ^^
Invest that money into some coffeine or a more comfortable chair. Will boost your "skills" about the same level.

seriously sick, long live grack fields

Looking forward to more of these, idra is really informative. It really helps zerg player understanding the decisions that go into high level play.
I started off zerg and went protoss, and I tell you its no easy task as zerg! so much to consistently do and 1 fuck up can throw you off so bad.
this brought back my swarm spirit, thanks a lot idra and sponsors, keep up the great work!
Fantastic, very useful even if I'm not understanding everything at the moment. May be, I'm not good enough to understand all decision. Anyway, I'm working on it.
Thx Idra.

IdrA has a very nice style as a teacher imo.

Snake Oil, and it bothers me that Idra and DJWheat are peddling these for them. They are reminiscent of Monster Cables, to me. You could get the benefit (the very, very, very small benefit) from getting any non-integrated NIC, and they are usually much cheaper.
Hm, on the blistering sands Big foots Network replay, at around 6:26 he says he drops a creep tumor to defend. I don't understand how that would truly help him defend? Minor bonus to speed on a tiny patch of area RIGHT before a drop?
