Next PPV does anyone think Smith has a chance against Jon Jones? I don't see anyone in LW who can take him down.
|
I always wanted to see jones vs rumble. Sucks he retired.
Maybe they should put him vs greg hardy so he could finally be tge good guy.
|
I think Smith has a chance, or at least a path to victory but he's clearly not a favorite in my book. On his feet, he'll probably not be much of a problem to Jones, and his takedowns aren't really good either. If somehow he finds himself on top, on the ground, he has the spirit of a finisher. Kind of a shame since I though Volkan Oezdemir was a better match-up against Jones, but he fucked up.
Jones vs Rumble would have been a fun fight, if not a balanced one!
|
I'm disappointed as well with the fact Jon Jones vs Rumble never happened. Then again do you think Jon would have dealt with him as DC did? I'm not sure Rumble would have won that match against JBJ. Shame it didn't happen.
|
Yeah I don't think Rumble would have won either, but it's one of those dream matches that never happened sadly.
I have no idea how Jones would have fought against Rumble to be honest, he could have gone the DC way (cut the spacing and went to the ground both times right?), or stayed long range and pick his shots. I'm not too sure about dirty fighting in the pocket either, I'd still put Jones as an advantage, which leaves the midrange to Rumble, but that's a scary place to be against JBJ's counters.
For me it's a clear Jones win but Rumble has a heart, man, he'd go through most of the punishment for a fight of a night.

I was looking forward to that fight too. Remember being so pumped after seeing the poster for that fight. It can be annoying having fighters either pop for roids or get injured for a fight when we are pumped up for it.
|
Yeah, Khabib vs Tony comes to mind too when it comes down to injuries, cancelled four times by now. I would have loved to see JDS vs Ubereem when they were both on juice, too. Kind of like an experimental fight.
|
I wanted to see Jon Jones vs a guy with knock out power at all times in a fight like rumble has. It would be very exciting to see him get clipped and how he reacts. I think this is why he doesn't want to fight at HW even though he has the size. Almost all the LHW guys win with volume not one punch. Rumble and Oezdemir have the one punch. But rumble is gone and Oez is not well rounded enough IMO.

Israel Adesanya and Kelvin Gastelum will square off at UFC 236 on April 13 at a venue to be determined. MMA Fighting confirmed an initial report Tuesday by ESPN. 5'9 vs 6'4
|
Hopefully, Bobby knuckles can be healthy to face the winner. I was really looking forward to his match against Gastelum to.
I think Israel will get the win over Kevin Gastelum and face Robert Whittaker.
|
Props to Gastelum for taking this fight after that aborted title match. On paper it sounds like a good fight, gonna have to take a deeper look into it!

Yeah overall I agree, Oezdemir has the best shot at Jones in my opinion, still not favorite but he has the potential for. But yea not as well rounded as Jones, and a bit inconsistent too.

Gastelum is a little like Edgar to small for his division but still making waves. Of course edgar it wasn't because of diet issues that he went up weight classes. He just liked fighting and beating bigger guys but still fun to watch.

Yawn, he has one fight in the past 5 years. He has been retired for a long time. And with "retirements" these days who knows we might see him again.
Hopefully he was smart with his money and enjoys his life. No doubt GOAT in my mind, so dominate and no PED crap.

It would get a ton of cash and be an amazing send off for GSP. That being said Kabib is probably the second coming of GSP. Wrestling so oppressive and dominant that you genuinely feel bad for those poor guys who have to suffer through it.
This is a guy whos dad had him wrestle baby bears because he was starting his wrestling gym and wanted people to show up, and then just didn't stop him until he was a teenager and wanted to compete in the local combat sambo tournament.
All due respect but Dagestan is not the nation I would have wanted to grow up with, most wrestlers think suffering is their ally but they merely adopted it in training. Kabib was born in it, molded by it, by the time he tasted victory and success he was blinded by it.

GSP and Khabib have a different way of approaching wrestling too, which would have made for a very interesting match-up. Really stocked for this weekend's card, the line-up is insane.

Weirdly the fight I'm most looking forward to isn't even on the main card. Stephens vs Zabit should be great!
