Round 1: Clear Whittaker 10-9, no shots that really stunned, but pressed more, did more damage. Round 2: Whittaker had more volume, Romero stunned Whitaker hard, I'd 70% give that round to Romero. Round 3: Romero demolished Whittaker here, Whittaker was on the end of being knocked out for a while, 50% 10-8 for Romero, 50% 10-9 for Romero. Round 4: I mean here Romero played it dumb, he knew he won Round 3, and was fighting an opponent who wasn't throwing one hand, he really should have applied enough pressure to convincingly win the round, maybe it did take him over 5 minutes to recover, but anyway. Even though Romero got out struck hard, I think that the shots were little more than taps, and I think you could make a case for Romero winning that round by rocking Whittaker hard in that last minute. 60% 10-9 Romero. Round 5: Whittaker was in survival mode the whole round, rocked like 3 times, dropped I think twice. 10% 10-7 Romero, 85% 10-8 Romero, 5% 10-9 Romero. So I would have given Whittaker 0.3*0.4*0.05 = 0.6% of winning that fight, while I'd even be okay with a 49-44 Romero decision, though 48-46 Romero seemed the most reasonable to me.

Also the CM Punk fight was miserable i'm not sure if it wasnt rigged somehow the dude could have finished him at any point(if felt like). Hard to say, I think the average fan left with the feeling of seeing a dominated Whittaker. People wont see him as a legit champ until he beats Romero imo. Though it is shitty and it's tough to say what you should do, given that Romero missed weight for the 2nd time in a row, though it was 0.2lbs. Honestly I have no idea, just giving Romero anyone but Whittaker seems very underwhelming, and Whittaker fighting Gastelum or somebody next seems like the duck of the century. Missing weight lose 75% of your purse clause, and Romero vs Whittaker 3 is what I'd do. Though no idea who Gastelum fights, maybe the winner of Costa vs Hall, or Cuckhold if he ends up not fighting Gustafsson.

It was under the new unified rules, not giving a 10-8 round, especially for R5 was absurd to me.

I was cheering for Whittaker, but shocking decision. That was the only one way that Whittaker could have won, all rounds 10-9, winning round 1, 2, and 4. I'll be needing to rewatch it, but the way I saw it was: Round 1: Clear Whittaker 10-9, no shots that really stunned, but pressed more, did more damage. Lots of damage and definitely dominatng round for Romero but not one sided enough to be 10-8. 10-9 romero round 4: whittaker landed kicks and jabs for 4min40 sec with romero doing almost nothing. Romero landed 2 bombes that hurt whittaker but there was no knock down, i don't think these 2 punches are enough to win the round for romero. 10-9 whittaker 80% round 5: brutal round by romero, knocked down whittaker at 3min:25 and nearly stopped the fight. Whittaker managed to stabilize for the last 2min and finished decently. With the new rules 10-8 is not unreasonnable. i'd say 10-8 romero 50% or 10-9 romero .No way it's a 10-7. therefore i have it 40% 48-47 whittaker, 40% 47-47 draw 20% romero wins

Overall it was a great fight! AS a side note I sure hope Rashad Evans retires. He is going to get some permanent damage if he keeps doing this.

i wonder if Ngannou was badly KO-ed in sparring a couple of weeks before this fight. he is guarding his head so carefully even when Lewis is obviously heaving leg kicks at his legs... Ngannou backs away and guards his head.

I can see why Derrick Lewis fought the the fight he did though, especially in the later rounds. Ngannou must've been fairly fresh in the second and third rounds compared to Lewis. Definitely makes it a scarier proposition for Lewis to engage.

Such a bad fight, Ngannou is more responsible about that for sure.
