I doubt that the cap will go up that much, but it certainly is going to keep going up and may hit $200 million at some point during Jimmy G's contract. Throw in the fact that the Niners have a shitton of cap space and a young team, and this is very clearly a deal that the Niners can carry. Jimmy G is the real deal and worthy of a franchise QB type of contract given what he did with an offense that was utterly bereft of talent. There's no point fucking around with the franchise tag and creating another type of Kirk Cousins situation when you just know that there are a bunch of teams out there ready to pounce and snatch him away in free agency. It's much better to just lock him up now and make him the guy. Now the Niners need to go out and buy an O-Line and #1 receiver (and a good edge rusher if one becomes available). EDIT: A Niners beat guy is reporting $74 million is guaranteed, and the contract is frontloaded with ~$90 million being payable over the first 3 years.

Lol, the Eagles and their fans certainly didn't disappoint today. All the "Big Dick Nick" stuff was particularly on point.

However maybe it will end up being worth. if he turns out to be a stud and niners only gave him a 3yr contract he would command a much higher salary.

NFL ratings have been going down in recent years. The only reason I can see for the cap going up a significant amount is if tech companies started overpaying for NFL content to beef up their streaming business.

If I were the Colts, I'd just put my stock next year into Brissett and hope for the best. I honestly don't think Luck touches the field until mid-season.

When Drew Brees signed his last long-term contract extension (before the fix-it extensions), he got $20MM/year under a cap of $120.6MM, or 16.6%. When Matt Ryan signed his extension, it was $20.75MM/year against a $123MM cap, or 16.8%. Rodgers was $22MM/year against that same $123MM cap, at 17.9%. Jimmy is signing for $27.5MM against a $177MM cap, or 15.5%.
