its March 28th and the Toronto Raptors having a better winning percentage than Golden State... LOL. I missed the game what was going on with derozan? Derozan played very well on offense and was horrific on defense last night. As a result, Casey benched Derozan in the 4th quarter and played a Lowry+Bench line up. award winning Raptors analyst Jack Armstrong is one of the few Raptors analysts with the balls to call out Derozan on his garbage, lazy, sloppy, dumb defense.
It is odd, I watched that game (super fun game to watch) and their was no mention of a benching and Jack said both glowing things about Derozan and some bad about his defense, I missed those particular adjectives mind you. He finished 15-1-8 with 2 steals in 30 mins and was a +1. He does average 34 mins, so he played less then normal! You have to be careful taking our "raptors reporter" to seriously he tends to be on the way too negative side too starters and on the way to positive side to back-ups who show up on espns RAPM lists.
The way I saw it, and the way the broadcasters conveyed it was, the raps second unit, which is one of the best in basketball was super hot. Especially the bigs, Siakam and Poertel were awesome. They got rolling and were taking it to the Den so he never pulled them out. He just let them roll all the 4th quarter. Deron

After the game Armstrong talked about Casey going with the best defenders. Armstrong frequently talked about how bad Derozan's defense was during individual plays and went into detail about what he was doing wrong.
As Tom Thibodeau has noted in the past... steals are sometimes an indicator of undue risk taking rather than a sign of good stick-to-the-scheme defense. We'd need to go through the video on Derozan's 2 steals to assess them.
In general , Derozan is by far the worst defender Toronto has playing a guard position.

Do you think I'm posting that DD is a good defender? You keep replying right after about him being a bad defender?
|
Guess it ended with him bein g back and looking good no Torn rotator cuff, guess it is another case of the reality not living up to the Drama.
He did take out Embid tonight. Perhaps a feud could be created!

FFS Can we put the posting ban back on these guys?
I'm so fucking tired of this shit spamming up this thread for no good reason. No wonder only like 5 people post here.
Fuck.

do u guys think players like simmons who missed an entire year should still be eligible for ROY?
i understand that he didnt play a regular season game, but its still a whole year that he got trained/coached like a pro, is that still a rookie?
|
Just being on the bench and doing light practicing is a big advantage over incoming players
|
In hockey there is a game limit, so like Murray won the cup with the Pens then was eligible for the Calder the next year.
I think it is fine, you only get one shot at rookie of the year, and it would be shitty if your injury robbed you of that too.
But I get what you are saying it does seem like an advantage.

With memphis beating Portland, I think Dame needs some MVP love!
And Saric was an absolute monster tonight after Embid went down.

They even fail at tanking.
Towns also broke the single game points for twolves with 56! Against ATL but I guess it still counts.

MarShon Brooks was out of the league for 4 years then comes back last night and drops 21. Is it just me or is there a shocking amount of players this year that have come back after super long times away to play, and make a difference.
|
its not like he was flipping burgers for 4 years and then came back. he was still making money playing ball. not sure if he was ripping up the china league or not tho. (i guess maybe? he was a CBA all star last year)

Despite certain posters looking at Derozan's play through rose-coloured glasses ... he was pretty lousy in his last game and has now been excused from the team to be with his family in LA. a good clue something was up was his lack of a post game interview and no interview during March 29 practice.
hope everything is ok.

Embiid will not travel with the team so he will miss at least 1 game. No word on any diagnosis yet. It is a mystery at this point. The 76ers saying nothing is a great way to "control the message".
Darius Beazley pulled out of Syracuse and will spend 1 year in the NBA G-League. First guy to say "fuck the NCAA" and go directly into the G League. The nitty gritty of the rules for high schoolers going straight into the G League are in the link below. + Show Spoiler + For those of y'all that don't know...
The G-League team he signs with will own his rights, the NBA team that owns said G-League team will not.
He cannot be called up by whatever NBA team owns the G-League team, he will be in the G-League the entire year.
To play/sign with a team in the NBA you have to submit yourself through the (NBA) draft. To submit yourself to the draft, you still have to be 1 year removed from graduation of high school. Since he cannot submit himself through the draft until next year, he can't be called up or sign with a NBA team on a 2 way contract or something of that nature.
After the year is up, he'll enter next year's draft as usual like any other prospect and go to whatever team drafts him.

Good. People who couldn't have passed high school without help shouldn't be the most privileged people on a university campus.
