Lin took 1 year to fully recover from a ruptured tendon below his knee cap. Oladipo ruptured the tendon above his knee cap. Best case is that the tendon ruptured where the quad muscle meets the quad tendon. That is unlikely though... its probably where the tendon meets the bone. My guess is he'll have a recovery arc and timeline similar to Jeremy Lin. Complete ruptures almost never get misread//misdiagnosed. So its not like they're going to come back in 4 days and say they got it wrong and its only a partial tear. Here is the opinion of a resident doctor specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation. His stuff has been solid in the past.

Until the surgeons figure out how to reconstruct the tendon its impossible to know if its "a good thing" relative to a ligament tear. ESPN/SI will probably relay the surgeon's conclusions after the surgery.

What asset that the Lakers have would the Pelicans (who would be tanking if they trade Davis) actually want? None will still be on rookie contracts by the time the Pels would have a new core in place. None are going to be NBA All Pros. Its unlikely any is better than the 4th best player on a team that wins a second playoff series unless that team has Davis + Lebron level talents. If you trade them Davis the Laker's picks aren't going to be good for 8 years anyways. Essentially, any trade they make with the Lakers just puts them in the same place they are now for the next 7 years (assuming Davis leaves), except they wont have Anthony Davis for the first 2 of those.

Good points. I think that waiting until Summer makes the most sense for the Pelicans. I could then see a team like the Knicks offering Porzingus Knox, Nkita and their first pick which should be top 3 (which they might do if they can convince KD to sign up). I think that would be easier to sell to your fan base. But it would involve taking a step back in regards to production and maybe as a small market they don't want to do that. With a Okafor/Randle Kuzma/Mioritc Ingram Jrue Ball lineup maybe they think they can fight for the bottom of the playoffs and hope to develop. Boston would be the clear favorite if Sac was doing worse. But now with Tatum taking a bit of step back I'm not sure that there offer is going to be clearly the best. I think all signs

I think Kuzma has a decent chance to become a really good player.

AD drama is so dominating the news one week until the trade deadline. Who else do people think have a high chance of moving? I think AD will stay with the Pels until the summer. I think Kanter gets moved. Plus a bunch of spare parts from the hawks and other tankers.
