Luke Walton’s last days? How the Lakers strayed from their values and are now set to betray their coach
While Buss has been an ardent backer of Walton, she has also empowered Johnson, who has been less resolute in his support. His efforts have all worked against his coach rather than with him. After delivering James in July, Johnson ignored the pleas of the coaching staff that he retain Brook Lopez and Julius Randle. Instead, he signed controversial and limited journeymen JaVale McGee, Michael Beasley and Lance Stephenson.

The players, at least those with professional aspirations, don't benefit at all from the university system. They are better off with a proper minor league system. The coaches, athletic directors and other support staff benefit far more from the system. Just look at the fuckery involved in player transfers while the coaches can just jump from job to job without any repercussions. I propose removing the athletics fee from students' tuition first. Let's see how many students actually watch the games if they weren't forced to pay part of the ticket price already. If the boosters want a personal fiefdom tied to the university's name, they can do it solely with their own money.
I just saw this story come up and it is another way rich people are abusing the amateurism. They are paying coaches to pretending that their kids are great athletes so their kids can get into prestigious schools. Not only does this hurt actual student athletes but it shows what a joke the whole system is and how it is really all about the $$$ for the schools.

How would you fix this? Would paying the athletes prevent this?

Would paying the athletes prevent this? The first step is just a lazy rule like: You can't play on a college's team if your SAT score is not equal to the college's median SAT. The NCAA already has a rule about the SAT that they only accept scores done at certain times (namely not done at your HS campus). Implementing a few other anti-fraud rules and we get the system closer to the point it was designed for (for actual students to play sports).

And MASSIVE fines to the colleges that break these rules. Like 10's of millions.

This westbrook thing has evolved to the "Westbrook wins" timeline, but I think he looks even worse than ever. He can claim whatever he wants, but he just looks like a clownshow. I've faced worse taunts from middle school parents as both a player and ref. If you only watched Russ's version of events you'd think the guy said, "get on your knees and start pickin my cotton N******." This is not even close. He got riled by classic trashtalk and then rationalized it later by playing the race card.

I thought it was initially reported as "put some ice on your knees".

The NBA has confirmed it. Trae Young ejected for "starring" because it was judged that "starring" at his opponent's back was a "taunt". Ok guys... For what was Wayne Selden ejected last night? LOL.
I just want the NBA officials to start using the term "micro aggression". That'll be Seinfeld level comedy if they start throwing that made up term around to explain these kinds of decisions where they are reading players' minds.
If the NBA holds Kyle Lowry to the same standard as Trae Young and Wayne Selden , Lowry would never make it out of the first quarter.
Remember those eye-bulging stares Tim Duncan used to do when he thought a referee made an incorrect call. I wonder in today's NBA... if that is a tech. LOL.

These aren't even major revenue sports. It has more to do with colleges placing too much emphasis on non-academic bs in the admissions game. It could've easily been about music, leadership, community relations, personal rapport in the interview and other crap. Just the kind of stuff they pull to reduce the number of Asians in the admitted class. Athletic departments are just an easy way in because of how corrupt and out of control they are. It's pretty insane how universities relax admissions standards even for the sports nobody watches.

thats what the fan said he said. westbrook and felton said the fan said "get down on your knees like you used to", from what i've read.
the fan is suing (surprise)
the fan also deleted his twitter account, including tweets where he called someone the N word and some angry tweets about russ

The fan suing means he thinks he can prove Russ was wrong which is funny.

meh, until its filed it has not happened. This is all just talk.. He "plans" on suing. I "plan" on being declared the king of england after queen elizabeth the 2nd dies. She is probably going to live until she is 200 though. So I'm out of luck.
Any one know what the woman said to Westbrook? Any one know what the Utah Jazz are saying about the woman ? Is Westbrook appealing the $25,000 fine?
I'd wait a while for more facts to arise. This is all pretty knee-jerk right now.
The Jazz should've temporarily banned him for the rest of the year and did a longer investigation and taken their time. The year is almost over any way. They could take a few months to figure it all out.
The problem is that this appears to be knee-jerk reaction instant "justice" and it appears as though they are placating an angry mob rather than delivering a sober, appropriate, measured punishment.

well apparently they have several accounts to back russ up (video review, eyewitnesses according to the utah jazz official statement), how much more of an investigation can they do? russ said the wife repeated what the husband said.

There' is definitely some side to the NBA that we only see glimpses of (before NBA and media kills them) but never actually see out in the open. From Sterling to the Jazz kerfuffle, whether it's racism or just billionaire owners and fans being entitled couchebags, it has to be exposed.
