It's almost 4 days until StarCraft 2 Wings of Liberty will be released ot the world, but two young fanatics have already started to que out side Webhallen in Stockholm.
Blizzard will have their StarCraft 2 Wings of Liberty at Webhallen in central Stockholm on Tuesday 27th. But there is already two StarCraft fans queued up outside Webhallen.
The first ten people will be offered to buy the Collector’s Edition for just 1 SEK (0.1 EURO). So if you are out of money just head to the store and que!
That's quite some dedication. I've gone to midnight releases for Blizzard games, usually an hour before midnight. However, I don't think I could ever wait days outside a store just for a game.
Ha, go do some work for your neighbors, pay for the game, and plenty of extra stuff along the way, don't wait out in front of the store for the free ones.
If I had someone to wait with me I wouldn't mind doing that. After all, I'm just wasting away here anyways attempting to find something to keep my mind off the ever slowly approaching release date.
I live close to where they're at, I might go interview (throw apples at) them lol.

Dedication? More like stupidity. Okay, maybe 1 night of camping could be fun but 4 days? That's pointless.
With unemployment as it is, you could probably find someone to wait 3 days in line for you for 50 bucks or so. That is, if this were in Michigan, USA. Not so sure about Sweden.

15 degrees isn't really cold for us. You Germans are weaklings
The most tragic part in this is that these guys could spend their time training in the build order tester to get Really good at the game when it´s released I queded for 12 hours for Wrath of The Lich King, got the last Collectors edition, totally not worth it, hehe.

Camping?, Since lasts years blizzard game release i think it was, it has become illegal to put up tents on the sidewalk, so there is no camping going on at all. And for your information there is over 10 people in the queue right now =)
Request pictures from somebody in Stockholm! Still havent got my game from webhallen so I'm kinda pissed needz it @ monday or else I'll take a plane down to stockholm and request a free copy of the game from webhallen
By Pictures I mean like in the middle of night or in rain, to see if they stand their ground
Pics of these guys would be great. Please post them. If I were a kid without a job and income and Starcraft 2 came out for this price I would definately be one of the first 10 in line....maybe drive by everyday to make sure the line hasnt already started.....but I wouldn't pitch a tent on my first trip to town.

15 degrees is definitely shorts weather. At least for running.

That is no where close to the most tragic thing.
If they are not allowed shelter (tent) , they could possibly get sick (or worst case: die) in 15 degree rainy weather for 4 days....and ..in a line, where I assume, they will not risk leaving, will have no way to get food.

Pft... Are you calling IRL more important than gaming now? Shame on you. I get your point ^^
Well food-wise i think they perhaps have family or friends comign by with food for em? i remember my younger days when attending the D2 release at midnight , i was about 14 i belive or so. Then my family came by and brought me burgers and stuff.
So hopefully they got some sort of similar plan. Doubt they'll die tho :D I dont think the store employees nor the police (that normaly check by ever so often during these types of events to keep an eye on people) whould allow that to happen. And the store also sell Drink and candy so whooo care

well, yes, its very very very unlikely anyone will die. I was exaggerating to make a point.
I was kinda figuring I'll just show up late to the midnight release after line dwindled down. I assume it's not worth it to wait in line for the promotional stuff. How long afterwords do they stay open?
Longest I have ever waited for anything was I waited outside a movie theater for all the releases of the new starwars movies.. But it was 3-4 hrs befor show time to make sure I could get a ticket. At 4 hrs out I got about 30th in line or so.

Maybe they want it basicly for free, and signed by Chris Sigaty :D plsu they will get an exclusive StarCraft 2 poster, everyone that buys it int he store at midnight will get the poster.

Just went out for a run i Stockholm, can't say i froze to death but it was a bit cold. These guys are sitting, i should get down there and offer them some hot chocolate. Don't agree with you who thinks this is stupidity, this is entirely dedication! "Smart has the plans, Stupid has the stories. Be Stupid!"
Did those stores get authorization to sell the games early? I know it doesn't really matter much because the servers are offline until the 27th, but I find it strange.
lol crazy guys . They should get a job for a day and buy themselfs a copy of sc2 and some extra cash and sleep for the other 3 days to be ready for some marathon sc2 playing !
On July 25 2010 02:35 holy_war wrote: Did those stores get authorization to sell the games early? I know it doesn't really matter much because the servers are offline until the 27th, but I find it strange.
Well webhallen is not selling the game early, they have sent out the Pre-orders but they have not reached the mailboxes yet. The store will open at 23:00 GMT+1/CET and there will be a live band playign starcraft tunes. The game will not go on sale before 00:00 however. So they are not allowed to sell earlier. Tho some other sites in sweden have already sent out their pre-orders and people have recived their copys, just as other stores in europe have done.
Darn i made my first post on TL in this thread, and now it just feels like im typing way way to much lol
ps webhallen will also sell the standars copy for 38,45 EUR / 49,58 USD to people buying it at the live event. so some pretty decent deals going down in sweden
On July 25 2010 02:40 Plexa wrote: This is one of the stupidest things I've read. Why would you queue for Starcraft II for that long....
Because it's a fun story! "Remember the time we queued for 4 day?" "Yeah, how stupid where we? =)" I really feel like defending those guys, maybe because i chickend out and stayed home until tomorrow...
Maybe, just maybe, they've actually preordered the CE and now have a chance of getting another CE for more or less nothing. Then go on to sell that CE on ebay for ginormous profit. just maybe. Dont think they'll be making the kind of profit to actually warrant waiting in line for 4 days but then again it's about the memories and the experience as well.
Atm its raining and its cold as hell in sweden, cant be fun to be there atm. And they are getting toys and other random stuff, not just the CE. if anyone was wondering.

If they are doing this for toys and not sc2 it's worst imo.
thats a joke isn't? i mean who can really be that stupid? really!! i would never sit in front of a shop days and nights just for getting one starcraft 2 game...
...while there is the king of the beta turney running;)
my CE's arriving on the 27th by special delivery so im all set. well you cant question their commitment and dedication though it seems a little overboard.
To be perfectly honest I don't think they do it for the money. I'd rather play 4 days of SC:BW than sittin outside waitin for SC2, but then again, the store I'm going to is probably only going to have 20 people at release day/night.
I completely understand them. That price is symbolic. Practically they queue up for a free collector's edition. All they have to do is to be within the first 10. Man, I can imagine many people would run there right now if they could, and sleep on the street.
Note that collector's editions are practically finished, and their prices are gonna be unlimited soon on the black market...
If I didn't have a job and my parents supported me 100% and I had absolutely NO LIFE I would do that too. But I think 4 days is overkill, the lol part is by the time they get the game "first", they'll be so freakin' tired at that point they'll probably not be able to manage to play for a while. Ohhh, poor little, confused kids...
Those two are going to feel reaaaalllly silly when they realize people will only start showing up a few hours before the game is released. It's starcraft 2.... It's not a new iphone, or a new halo game or something.
according to the comments on the shops website there are supposedly already over ten people in the line now. (Those ten people will get the CE for next to free+merch)
well... they are getting it for super cheap! 0.1 euro? I don't know how much that is in USD but my guess is a nickel? who wouldn't want to buy sc2 for a nickel?
On July 25 2010 04:07 Wr3k wrote: Such idiots.... how hard is it to arrange getting a copy before the servers come up without waiting in line?
Yet one more who doesn't get it. I'm quite sure they're standing in line four days prior to release not because they're afraid to not get a copy but to get the collector's edition for 1 SEK. Webhallen in Stockholm is selling the CE for 1 SEK to the first 10 people in line at their release event (plus potential extra give-aways).
They must just be doing it for kicks or a bet or something like that. Otherwise they could just work a minimum wage job and get enough money to have starcraft2 delivered to their homes in the same amount of time...
EDIT: Ugh, I can't believe I wasted my 500 on this trash. EDIT EDIT: Ohh shit, hydralisk.

This is sad. I'm a huge fan of many video games, Starcraft especially, and I'm probably looking forward to this just as much as any one else. But I would never catch myself wasting days or even hours in line for the game.
I wonder how long it'll be before other people actually decide to get in line. I'll bet it won't be till the 26th. I can understand the idea of wanting to get there early to secure a good spot, but this is just too extreme.

There are several people there already. Over ten people in line according to some comments on the shops webpage.
Why all the hate? Is it so bad that a couple, with no harm to you, decide to queue up for a game that we all love for four days? It's a once in a lifetime experience and you get a nice present for the time spent.
Would I do this? No, but it's a wonderful idea and I'm happy for them. Yes, we're all aware people can do math and take minimum wage * 4 days > $100 but if that's what you're posting here you're missing the point.
For those near Stockholm send them some TL love and if you can photos and interviews. These are two intriguing souls. Need to know more :-)

Extremely stupid? That's a bit too much hyperbole for my taste. In addition, they're not standing in the middle of traffic they're hanging out with other people on the street for four days that also love Starcraft 2 and then they get a free CE copy and merchandise.
This is something this community should support or at the very least understand.
I don't see how it could be defined an "experience". Staying 4 days sitting and doing nothing just to buy a game is not an experience, it's just plain stupid
Okey, since I live pretty close to Webhallen I decided to check it out at around 11pm. I really thought it over beforehand though since its raining so much outside that you could literally get more dry swimming in the ocean.
And tbh I expected them all to be sitting at Mcdonalds or somewhere else. But when I get there I see 13 nerds camping like it was the fucking first starwars movie, eating their canned soups and whatever.

So much negativity from people probably browsing their lives away for days doing absolutely nothing. I hope these kids actually sell the extra stuff they get on ebay for a good buck just so that everyone calms down. Sc2 comes out only once ffs.

Yeah and playing video games is super smart. Seriously, where do you get this reasoning? You think playing non-competitive WoW for 10 hours is somehow adding you "experience" while chilling outside with a bunch of fans showing dedication while shooting shit for hours does not? If I had nothing to do and was given this choice I'd pick waiting (maybe because I can't stand WoW).

Wow, that bugs me. By all means, I would NEVER do something like this, as I value spare time over money, and I have more money than I know what to do with, but I respect that other people do it. If you're into that kind of thing, I'm sure it must be really fun to do it, but I'm not though.

4 days is pretty bad. Most I've waited is like 8 hours or something outside bestbuy for black friday sales, but it's pretty silly to wait that long for a game, considering most people preordered.
Severely discounted tvs, computers, dvd players etc. are far different from a game because the stock is so limited on those items. Those people are nuts.

Thanks for the help. My local bestbuy has preorders left online for in-store pickup but not in-store (when I checked the other day). Do you see any reason why they don't have in-store preorders left but still have them online? I'm hoping the website isn't just wrong or anything like that.

It's where you draw the line. You are a starcraft fan but someone else is a WoW fan, how is this a valid argument? Point is, you "waste" time on many things in life, gaming is one of them.
If you sit down for a minute you can make a list of stupid things you do every day, I'm positive there will be worse issues than camping outside promoting the game you love trying to be the first customer. Imagine how many people asked them what were they waiting for? How many of them thought - "maybe I should buy this for my kid"?
It definitely is less of a waste than most things you do by yourself casually.
4 days is a bit too much for me w/o some other incentive, seems like a waste. And making ur GF wait with you is kind of messed up imo (plus how can she bring u food if she is in line with you). I've waited in line for halo 2 and 3 for 2hrs each and it was boring. None of my friends were nerdy enough to go with me either so I had to go alone (and my brother last min bailed on me on both even though I was buying him a copy).
As for me I have schoolwork to do and a lot of it, but I just haven't been able to get it done. I need to finish a 15+ page report and use my syllabus to get ahead but I just want to sit here till sc2 comes out. In fact I'd rather sit outside a store for 4 days for SC2 than have to do tons of schoolwork. I know I will play sc2 when it comes out, so I know I gotta get ahead in school. FUUUUUUUUUUUU

It amuses me

In all seriousness, I wish i had friends this much committed to the game..! Sitting for hours, waiting for release is awesome .
I'm gonna be sitting 6 hours in front of my block buster for sure =)
Someone should order them a pizza. Seriously, what's the address of that store?

hey... what's wrong with being a nerd??
edit: is it the one on Ekensbergsvägen? would the pizza place understand english?
what is wrong with the pre-download offered from blizzard? Blizzard stated that servers go live at 10am, so for people getting the game from midnight releases, will it even be playable?

Yeah swedes understand English fine. And you are an awesome dude for thinking this =).
That's pretty cool. Very admirable to be waiting that long and especially in the rain for something that you love

It's probably been said 10 times in this thread already but I'll say it again; They've said that the servers go live at 00:01, it's the digital download you just dont receive before 10am.
Blizzard will have their StarCraft 2 Wings of Liberty at Webhallen in central Stockholm on Tuesday 27th. But there is already two StarCraft fans queued up outside Webhallen.

HEY NEW GUY!!!!
Gtfo... I also just realized you said you drove there to see the people waiting and THEY have no life?? Wow you are pretty sad dude. Lol.
"People are waiting for something they like. I had nothing better to do and was so much of a loser I decided to drive over there and make fun of them. Then I decided to post about it and act hxc on some webforums that are all about the game and it's predecessor. I am hard as shit motherfucker!"
Well thats not an image of stuff included in the CE (explaning if you were not trying to be sarcastic) The image is there to show whats being sold at the event and what is being given away for free/competitions. The 11th person in the queue got the Puzzle, then they got a chance to get the Poker set, but they couldent answer the question correctly any of them. So the first person with the correct answer on the website was given a poker set. =) Whould have been a amazing deal if all could get all of that in the CE

Yeah these guys can't really be enjoying themselves atm... been raining for like 36h straight and we've dropped 10-12 degrees celsius over the same time.
I am currently 7th in line for the SC2 launch event, which means I've been standing outside the store since friday, and I'm getting the game for free basically . Gonna rip some mad SC2 gaming when I get home.
It's been raining like crazy, living and loving the life of a hobo tho.

Awesome, you guys got laptops to kill time? How many people are there now? Did anyone post pictures yet?
Someone should definitely order a pizza or two for you lol, nice dedication
I was just over at Webhallen to buy some hardware and there seemed to be like 20 people camping there now.
As for the hardware, yes, I am building a completely new computer just for the launch of starcraft 2 and, yes, I will be eating very little this month.
I don't blame them for waiting outside for the game. Not only are they getting the CE for 0.1 euro, and free merchandise. But its looks like it could be fun to.
And who wants to work there butt off for 2 days when they can just sit down for that duration and get the same results. Star Craft 2 CE with some stuff. Its win win I think.
I have to admit, the first five pages of this thread was pretty hilarious, it was like a giant clusterfuck of nerds crying about how they were less nerdy then the other nerds.
Anyway, I could never do this myself lol, my respects anyway to the guys(and girls) waiting :p. I haven't even preordered yet, just gonna ninja a CE from a friend who works at gamestop tomorrow or something.

Lol Sweden is awsome. Im walking 8 miles to get my copy cause my Sister stole the car from me. But thats nothing compared to your dedication
On July 26 2010 02:20 Zealot)KT( wrote: You could just work a few days, get money, and pay the damn 90 euros for the CE.
I think its more about the experience then the actual money itself lol. If my GF was into gaming and my local gamestop had a deal like this I'd probably be camping out with her too :p.
On July 26 2010 06:38 mercurial wrote: so 96 hours for 90 euros, thats way below the average, they should go sew the store imo.
But they can just play hand held games or read the whole time. If they have someone to bring them food it really isn't that bad... except the sleeping part.

Most likely, and it's this one: Stockholm, Sveavägen 39
If you feel the need to camp the entrance of a store for a video game... YOU HAVE ISSUES !
At any rate it isn't worth getting starcraft 2 maybe before 1 week after its released. Just like for wow (whose servers are MUCH more stable btw), Bnet 2.0 is going to crash in flames and take a few days if not a week to be upgraded.
It was already lagging like hell at the end of the beta when they were pushing the slots; What do you think will happen when 100x more people try to connect at once ?
On July 25 2010 06:13 sword_siege wrote: Why all the hate? Is it so bad that a couple, with no harm to you, decide to queue up for a game that we all love for four days? It's a once in a lifetime experience and you get a nice present for the time spent.
Would I do this? No, but it's a wonderful idea and I'm happy for them. Yes, we're all aware people can do math and take minimum wage * 4 days > $100 but if that's what you're posting here you're missing the point.
For those near Stockholm send them some TL love and if you can photos and interviews. These are two intriguing souls. Need to know more :-)
Someone standing in the middle of traffic doesn't harm me, but it's still extremely stupid.
Missed the point. Even if something doesn't effect me in the slightest or is harmless, still doesn't mean I can't criticize it.

KA-BOOM BABY !

Missing Point :p.
I seriously doubt that their there because they absolutely need to play it the second it releases, or for the money. There are far easier ways of doing so, like buying a key from an online site, having it emailed, then installing from pre-downloaded games.
Its just about the "fun" and "experience" of being a hardcore fan lol. Its like why people pay 1k$+ to go to blizzcon or whatever. It isn't just to see the expos, its about the enviroment and the fandom.

I'm really enjoying myself :/.
Love it when a random kid with who has an obscure quote from a five year old cult video game about vampires as his sig on an site about competitive "electronic-sports" judges other people for being passionate about stuff

15°C is perfect shorts weather in New Zealand.
You are even sicker than the Swedes (Jinro said wearing short while running was ok)! Are you proud of this? *cuddles his warm blanket at night*

:D.
A kid wouldn't have played VTMB and neither would you remember that if you didn't like that particular moment in the first place :D
I could have used "Igne Natura Renovatur Integra" as signature too. Go google it up so you can share your e-gnorance :D
I can read a book/books for 4 days straight, mine as well hop in line with a beach chair, 20$ to order food, and a crisp dollar bill for that SC2 Collectors Edition.
Cheers to them, whoever said patience doesn't pay, well... their just unaware of this thread.
Edit: I'd probably start a day or two before though, not 4 :D
Huh, im from sweden too and i just went down to my local computer store and bougth a copy of starcraft 2. Doesnt even work to install it untill 27th so why dont they just sell the games so ppl can get home? Sick. I guess local computer stores are more friendly than the big ones.
I don't think anyone will line up at our local stores. I'm planning to just walk into the store tomorrow and buy a copy lol. Will take pictures if there's anything interesting happening
On July 25 2010 05:15 mapthesoul wrote: ITT people don't understand the Webhallen queuing culture.
Just going to repeat this once more. They're not queuing mainly for the 1kr CE price, it's for the fun of the event. They're having a live band playing, contests, cosplay and whatnot going on.
This always happens during big releases at webhallen and people just come to queue to hang out with other people that love the same thing. I could see myself doing something similar if it was something I really really loved and had the time for it but alas I do not.
I'll definitely be there sometime this evening to pick my copy up just to get it signed by Chris Sigaty, sporting my TL t-shirt of course . I'd be very surprised if the queue isn't 100+ by then.
Everything isn't about money, as long as you're happy... right?

trolling or are they really already selling it somewhere?
At least my local computer store sells, i know a lot of people that got their copy already too when they pre-orderd from online stores like cdon, spelbutiken, etc. It even says on spelbutiken.se that you get your copy 26th so you can play it at release.
I mean, if blizzard already protected themselves so ppl cant even play the game or install it before 27th, then its just smart for smaller local stores to sell the game when they can to get more customers.
What happened with ordering pizza for the people in line? I could also contribute and donate a little to Jinro or some other swedish guy we can trust, so they can order a pizza from the TL members!
Yea I added contrast to the most recent picture and she's definitely still there. She's the second one to the left, still wearing the SC2 shirt. She has her hair down now.
Just got home from Webhallen. Purchased a brand new BenQ 24" to connect to my laptop tonight. Been playing enitre beta with 14.1" laptop so I tought that to honor SC2, I'd buy myself a new monitor.
The que was really long now with atleast 50+ people and the first two definitly need a shower
I'll be getting my copy at EB Games in Gallerian to avoid a crowd. They are also doing a midnight release.
fuuu I wish I could be there it sounds kind of awesome now that I think about it. But... Some of us have work in the morning. and ordering pizza to all 50+ people at this point sounds kind of too late. =/ Has the servers already opened in east asia and where its already the 27th?
Dont think so no, I preordered it today at EB Games in Gallerian. Altough I would recommend you go to Webhallen since its 349 kr there, vs the 559 kr I paid at EB Games. WH is having special discounts for the Midnight Release.
Shit... If I go there I will probably miss my last train home and be stranded in Stockholm. I don't think I would get anyone to join me. I don't know what's worse, going to bed at home without SC2 in my hands or sitting alone in the streets of Stockholm with no place to sleep but with a copy in my hand.
I think webhallen is selling it for 429 after the midnight release, but other stores like gamestop seems to take 500something? So I think Im going there tomorrow. Maybe Game was cheap as well.

I was at GameStop checking out some games and buying a gc for WoW, and the dude asked me "you preordered SC2 yet?"
"-Yeah, at webhallen"
"Oh? Why not here?
"-how much?
"only about 600"
"-yeah, I get it for 379:- @ webhallen"

GameStop is a fucking joke. Anyway, going to queue soon, yey ~ webhallen queueing culture is awesome by the way, don't get why so much hate.

Meh. I'm getting it at gamestop now since there is no webhallen in uppsala open at midnight I hope it's not too expensive.
Installing Starcraft 2 now. Luckily I only had to stand in line for about 40 minutes Would definitely be up for the 4 days for a free collector though if I lived in the city and had someone to do it with me.
