Rough translation follows.
Former acting coach of Pantech Curitel and former coach of WeMade Fox, Mr. Won Joongwook has returned to the e-sports scene as the head coach of the brand new Starcraft II team 'STARTALE.'
Mr. Won, who played a key role in the founding of WeMade Fox, began his e-Sports career in march of 2003 with Toona SG, the predecessor of WeMade Fox. He remained with the team through its multiple sponsor changes, as SG Family, Pantech and Curitel Curriors, Pantech EX, and finally as WeMade FOX.
Joining STARTALE will be a number of well known ex-Brood War pros. Most notable is JulyZerg, there are also many other familiar names such as ZergLee, IntotheRainbow, and Silver. Even Silent_Control will be joining them soon in October, when his military service ends. Rounding up the lineup is Ssoja, a protoss player who has competed in the GSL as of late.
Startale (called ST for short) will begin activities as a team in earnest this coming October.

i don't know whether startale or the scv life is the worser team name.

Horrible names I agree. Quite old names I see there, like Silver. Going to be interesting. Go JulyZerg.

Quoting Milkis's post from Broodwar Transfer thread as a reminder;

Progamer A - Wanted to participate for this season of GSL, but was not able to due to his contract with his team. He is looking to participate in the preliminaries of the second season of GSL this upcoming October. He is still practicing hard, and said that if he participated in the preliminaries, he would have been able to make it to the main stages. He updated us on his situation by saying that next season, he is preparing hard so that he could make it the semi finals. Pretty much confirmed to be July. Progamer B - Has already left the team and is living by himself. He announced to hsi team that he is not going to have another contract, and preparing for the switch to SC2. There is a very high chance that he will join the SC2 game team that Progamer A is a part of. Has enjoyed playing since the beta test, and is preparing to participate in the preliminaries. Rumors have it that this is NaDa.
In case you somehow missed it ; Progamer B ( rumored to be NaDa ) will probably join the same team with Progamer A ( July! ) NaDaST soon ?

silent_control? wow...
Reminds me of that game game vs. Reason in the wcg, sick brazilian roll =p

Wow silent_control, there's a name I thought I'd never see again.
|
Awesome news but I agree with the terrible team names >_<
|
omg if nada plays terran he will roflstomp everyone for a long time to come ^^

as good as Koreans are at SC, they suck so much at picking nicknames and teamnames. I wonder how these teams will do in comparison with the original SC2 teams (Prime, OGS)

korean pro scene slowly shaping up.
|
wow, I was thinking yesterday what happened to silent_control
|
OmG JulY ZerGGG!!! WoWOWOOWoW ^^
Really excited for this new team, thanks for the source!!
|
wow that is some name...then again when i look back to other names like "julyzerg" name..i think 'what does it mean?'?
lets hope for nada!
|
Thats some really big names in BW history . This team is going to own .
|
SILENT CONTROOOOOOL :DDDD
|
Wow that is one hell of a roster, really awesome to have some names in the scene that raise some memories...
|
remember kids, name is overrated as much as long sausage xD : ) i love We Made Fox, have no idea who is julyzerg but i hope i will get it soon GL
|
|
So what will guys like flash, jaedong, effort etc. do when they hear that all those old pros are making more money now with sc2 as they do with bw? how long will it take for them to switch to sc2? money rules the world.

my guess is that they will switch to sc2 for 2011 season.

Julyzerg, IntoTheRainbow and Silent_Control :3

kinda weirdish names the got going on there.. but, best of luck though..

Oh July? Well.. he ain't that big. Just the 3rd best zerg of all time, the first zerg to really dominate the scene for a period of time, AND the first zerg to win a golden mouse. But really, does that mean you guys don't know like.. perhaps.. Flash or Jaedong?
|
So cool to see the sc2 pro scene growing. I expect a massive switch of B-teamers and lower A-teamers within a couple of months when more tournaments come up and they realize the potential. When you have Flash and Jaedong to catch up to in sc1 there really isn't much you can do other than switching games.

Good thing team names and nicknames have nothing to do with it. They'll be just as good as the other teams. It's a smart move on their behalf. Lots of those guys were pioneers of SC:BW and many of them know each other very, very well. Looks like it's deja vu.

Sorry but money is still not with SC2 . Flash , Jaedong , Effort and most top players are well paid , so unless there are more leagues and paid salaries they won't change . And with the current balance of SC2 i see no reason for top players to switch for just only GSL and have some terran player use 1 of 100 rush builds and cheese them out of the league . Then they will only be watching SC2 on TV . Unless you are bad/retired in BW and you still want to be a progamer there is no other reason for top BW players switching to SC 2 .

I would say flash is able to win 80% of the gsl tournaments in 2011. that has to be around 500.000$. i dont think he earns that much money with playing bw.

Actually, he earns 300k this year only from his salary, according to Milkis(?) and his sources. http://twitter.com/SC_OddsAndEnds

I doubt Flash would care if he gets 500k in SC2 or 400k in BW . He will be playing the game that is more advanced in e - sports and has a higher entertainig value to the audience . Seriuosly companies pay millions of dollars to sustain teams in BW . I don't know how much teams in SC2 are actually paying their players to play SC 2 or are they just practising together for 1 tournament and who ever gets lucky wins while the others suck on a shoe . Only 16 players in SC2 are actually making any "real money" and thats the top16 players in the GSL . You have to have companies sponsoring teams or only a few players will actually make real money in SC 2 .

Yea if flash can repeat next year he's a millionaire if not already.

Silver is coming back
|
Horrible name :/. m too new to know most of those guys. I know IntoTheRainbow from the Gom intel classic tourney and Julyzerg is just obvious. Have no clue who the rest are lol.
|
the coach is JULYZERG's Twin?
|
Has IntoTheRainbow given a reason as to why he's leaving OGS? Is he leaving for similar reasons as Cool and Tester did? Maybe this team offers more star players such as JulyZerg and Silent_Control? Are like the remaining members of OGS just not that impressive, especially with TheSTC going on Military leave?

July? SIlver? epic.
Are those guys playing the same races as in BW, or is it normal to switch in SC2?
|
All these people thinking Flash and other current pros will immediately switch are kinda deluding themselves. Why would they switch to a game they don't know (sc2) from a game that is currently making them thousands of dollars(bw)?
If sc:bw dies out, or they start getting into a slump, sure they'll switch then, but until so, there's absolutely no reason for the top tier sc:bw players to switch.

I wonder why all the teams choose to get their name in English instead of Korean.

I'd say Flash has easily earned over 500K this year just with his salary and tournament wins. This is not even including his endorsements.

IntoTheRainbow is already playing in GSL and July will most likely try to qualify since he doesn't have anything to stop it.

it would be so great if more oldschoolers like midas iloveoov boxer & co would switch to sc2

hoping to see some high rank bw pro to SC2
SC2 indeed is harder, u harder to mirco, and u can't build pure 2 units in the entire game, u need bunch of random unit to support the big battle army and etc

Pretty exciting though to see all these awesome players switching over to SC2.

SC2 indeed is harder, u harder to mirco, and u can't build pure 2 units in the entire game, u need bunch of random unit to support the big battle army and etc
rofl i remember watching some VOD where ppl were commenting about high APM in sc2. the players APM was around 150-160 for both of them. oh yeah, sc2 is much harder.
the macro is harder the clicking 36 units is harder the smart casting is harder the automining is harder hmmmm
yep i guess any of these sc2 pros can switch to BW and dominate flash right? no wonder washed up BW players are switching to SC2... for the challenge

Micro and control is much more important, and macro isn't as easy as people assume it to be. So 150 is like 200 BW APM or more, if I've got the numbers right. As for the old BW pros switching, the speed/skill required isn't known yet. The potential isn't met. When it is, younger players will dominate again. Also, all the current generation of pro players pretty much copy the older generation and so on. They aren't creative. The SC2 players HAVE to be at least somewhat creative. You don't know the proper response to x yet, so you have to make it up.

DO THEY GET PAID?
cuz if so, i will be joining the ranks of the "bw is dead" guys self quote cuz i habe no answer yet none of these teams have sponsers yet as far as i know so they do not currently get paid. iirc [Oops]Lee's team TSL (Team SCV Life) is sponsored in part by Gskill (around $15k) and EVGA/etc. That's still very low in the grand scheme of things, but there is some sponsorship.
edit: found their sponsor list. + Show Spoiler +

Oh man, this gets me soooooo giddy, I liked whitera and the beta bunch, but seeing all these BW guys come back makes me sooooo happy I loved July

it's about time for oGs to get a proper sponsor. I guess theyr still more like a clan than a team ?

I'm sure its been joked about endlessly but heres to hoping Silent Control does not feint at a GSL ^_^

so what your syaing in SCBW will be composed of the top 5% of their players and everyone else goes to SC2? fun!

while Macro is technically easier to do it really just means there are more things you can do at once, it just changes where your attention is put. people need to get that

If you smart mine to get 7% more minerals it requires individual manipulation of scvs which is harder than the current mining requirements in BW so that is out of the question. Almost all units have an on use or special ability making incombat micro more difficult. The SC2 APM recorder puts out 40% less than BW. So when you see NoNy playing at 250 its really closer to 400. TLO against losira playing at 300 is really closer to 500. So the APM argument is out of the question. The constant chronoboost/larvae/3 options for command centres make a massive long term macro difference in the game and requires an immense depth of knowledge of the game to determine what is the correct choice for a player that needs every single last edge in a game.
My friends that are BELOW the top 200 push around 200 apm for an entire game and they still regard themselves as slow being unable to perfectly bounce between their macro mechanics and perfect incombat skill-usage splitting their 4-5 different units and skill types in their fights for the best effect.
Saying sc2 isn't comparable to the BW in terms of taxing its players simply isn't a fair or reasonable request. Saying one is harder than the other is also far from anyones judgement except for those that DO play on the absolute bleeding edge, if you're just a scrub that plays casually and cant break into the 1500 diamond levels or push into the a- range of iccup then honestly you have no right to say what is hard and easy.

The thing is, B-teamers still get some salaries, they may not be as much as top players get, but people still can live with them, which is something SC2 doesn't have, there are no sponsored teams, so you either win or starve, which doesn't attract many StarCraft players

Actually, this thing about APM that Tasteless said is utter bullshit, there is no such thing, it is just that in BW AND SC2 clicks are not registered as actions.

no, b-teamers just get to live for free

And living for free is still better than having to beat a lot of pros to get money to live.

No, they don't. They may not get as much as A-teamers, but they still get some money, enough to make a living, its a job after all, you get paid

no, you have to be succesful to earn money. so you should at least be a part of the a-team. note that its korea and not the western world. being in the b-team is just to be able to practise all day and fully concentrate on becoming good enough to play in proleague. why should the teams pay them any money if it makes no sense for them? those kids are happy if they can stay in a team's house and play all day.
even bad a-teamers barely earn any money, especially at teams like estro.
wasnt there a big thread about progaming being like slavery with lots of inside looks?

It's a cute name, makes me think of some cartoon. I cringed a bit at first, but relative to all the other sc team names it wasnt that bad.
I am excited by this, but everytime I see JulyZerg I can only think of that panda costume now...

Stop with this bw/sc2 comparison plz. T_T Btw : Intotherainbow =/= intotherain Even though they may have almost the same name and are the same race they're two different persons.

omgwtfbbqnubcaek! I can't wait for this all to be set in motion. I'm having flashbacks to the spectacular matches from 2004... Man, Nada vs Silent_Control from that series was spectacular.
And in case anyone missed it, ST = Sanitary Towel, also known as a maxi pad. Hence why the name is funnier than you realize.

Koreans sure are awful att naming teams ^^ :D
