We are very excited to announce that FnaticMSI will from now on have its own Academy team from South Korea. The new project is aimed to develop talented players from Korea who haven't had the chance to show their true potential to the scene.
With FnaticMSI's knowledge and experience in eSports and the players' talent we are sure to form some world-class players to climb to the top of the Starcraft 2 leagues.
At the start of this project the players will participate in several online tournaments such as ZOTAC Cups, Go4SC2 and the TL Open. Once they can show FnaticMSI successful results they may receive an opportunity to join our A-team. This will not only open doors for our Academy players, but also our A-team players who will get to know different play-styles and tactics. In the end it will pay off for the whole FnaticMSI Starcraft 2 division and will be a huge chance for everyone.
On the next page you will get to know the three players better; who are the current FnaticMSI Academy team? We also added replaypacks for you.
FnaticMSI's General Manager Elroy Pinto added a statement about our Academy team:
"Today we begin a new chapter in StarCraft 2 in FnaticMSI. We are happy to welcome 3 talented Korean amateurs into our team. Thanks to efforts of Vestige and Brian we find oursevles taking up this project where we look to develop the untapped talent available in South Korea. August, Skit & Porigo will be joined by some more players in the coming months. We are looking forward to their progress and are very sure that they will perform to the highest standard needed to compete internationally and we will be there to support them right from their first baby steps! Please give them a warm welcome and a big thanks to MSI, SteelSeries, EIZO & RaidCall for their support on this."
Additional statements from the team members can be seen HERE.
Awesome news, look forward to a new season of GSTL Don't think I have seen anything involving Porigo or Link(since he switched to Zerg) but, Skit was featured against Destiny and he did very well.

lol this.
Why don't you just put them into the regular roster? :S
That's a cool idea - training your own talents to become pro's. Also hopefully a good deal for the koreans for earning some money and having more exposure to the community.

Or to EG (I know its bad, but I still had to do it) Back to topic, best of luck with the new team it sounds like really great news and I'm hoping to see not only all the players but also their effect on the team.
Very cool. Too bad there aren't any protosses, but I am sure there will be some (eventually). I like it, I mean look at where HerO came from, he was in OGS, yes, but I don't know if he even got some televised matches for them. And what a player he is! Looking forward to see all of these players play in some tournaments!

He started 1 game in the GSTL for oGs before joining Liquid, but yeah, there's just a lot of hidden scary good players out there.
Seems like a great idea for Fnatic and wish them the best of luck.

Any plans on forming a team house in korea?
I would say even korean amateurs are on the lvl of top foreigners. Especially since August (augustwerra) used to be a pro gamer.
I think the top foreigners have shown they can compete with top level Koreans (Nani, Sase, Fenix, Thorzain, Idra, Mana, Stephano etc.) Korean amateurs are like the level of high level EU players.
As for Fnatic B team. Awesome shit, B teams are what really pull teams from casual to hardcore.

I agree. I'm pretty sure this would happen if they ever got good enough to be offered a good contract. I'm guessing they would at least need code S though so thats some ways away.

None of those players can compete with top Koreans.
MMA, Bomber, MVP, Nestea, Losira (and most of Code S) are well ahead of any of those guys.
There is a reason Sase, Nani, Thorzain etc.. all got eliminated from Code A in the first round.
Title seems a little misleading but cool initiative none the less, especially since amateur Koreans are probably on par with most of the higher-tier foreigners.
All I can say is, I am glad more money is going into the "Korean Method". I'm sure if they can make a living doing this, at least a few will surely play the game like a job.

Is there going to be a team house where players (even if just the future 'A'-team) receive room and board? I'm getting the impression the answer is "no."
why is the sc scene so racist , i'm pretty sure there are 99999 "foreigner" pros out there who would have deserved those sponsorships from fnatic more..

Me obviously. Well actually these Koreans deserve it more, atm there is so few foreign free agents with any skill lol.

It's actually the opposite way around, August is a better player than the majority of foreigners and there's countless guys on Korean teams better than any foreign players who are making almost no money from Sc2.
I really, really, really dislike the trend every team is following at the moment... Why do you have to have koreans? Some people may argue that they are better, even though it's true for a lot of them ( taking a look at Dreamhack, Code S obviously etc. ). On a side note though, have a look at the foreigners like ThorZain ( sorry if written wrong :x ), Fenix, HuK... they are going berserk at the moment just because their teams put trust into them instead of picking some koreans.
The thing is, obviously you want your teams to win and I fully understand and agree with you there, since it's a business. On the one hand there's a logical reason behind this, having some new and upcoming stars in your A-Team later on. On the other hand though, it's one of the worst moves possible. Besides the already very poorly dealt PR thing with fenix and sen, fnatic misses a HUGE chance to gain some bonus in the community by providing an academy for foreigners to see them grow and advance in their playstyle. Of course you may ask why you should pick foreigners over koreans? The possibility I and many others, see there is, that you can: 1. raise your reputation within the community, relating in more visitors on your site and maybe more customers for your shop 2. Every team is picking up koreans nowadays and it's really really nothing special even more and even more unspectacular if they are not even A-team worthy right now. 3. If you would have picked up rising foreigners , this would have been something outstanding. Something we haven't seen as often as korean picks. Also if you would provide a cup with the winner being transferred to your academy for 1 month to prac with your pros, it would have a huge impact on your daily visitors and would make fnatic look even more professionel ( comparing it to professional sports like football, soccer etc. )
Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating on the decision but I'm clearly not seeing the point in it at all. To me it's just such a poor news compared to what it could have been.

i fail to see how thats racist? I can only think of 1 team off the top of my head that gives foreigners a chance who havent "proved themselves" in a tournament(complexity..even having a tourny to find players for their academy). Hows it racist to want to see the same chances offered to korean players(korean teams have had b teams since forever or a team like slayers who've been known to pick up "nobodys"), since no foreign team does atm.
Look, the KR server has tons of talent who just need a chance to be invited onto a team.
This is a good step to bring some unknowns from KR server to foreign tournaments or tournaments in KR.
The competition is too hard to get into Code A and sometimes you lose to cheese in those qualifier games but doesn't mean those players are horrible.
Foreigners get an easy ride into Code A just because they won a tournament outside KR. Not all of Koreans have this opportunity due to language barrier.

I don't really think that's a fair statement though -- Koreans land one day before every MLG and have to play for two whole days non-stop while tired and jetlagged. And of course, they win every single time in an overwhelming fashion.

just a thought in general. Why dont players change their sleep scheduale prior to their trip. They know they have to fly to korea. A week before they fly slowly change their sleep scheduale to fit korean time. Its not like pro gamers have a job where they have to be up at a certain time...

How am I being racist? oO Sorry if you think this post is meant as such, but it clearly isn't. The thing is e-Sports is already very very big in korea and I would love to see some organizations to put in some efforts to improve it in "outer-korea". It's getting really boring to only see koreans win and I desperately hope for some foreigners to win at least 1 or 2 big events in the near future. The only problem is, that in korea, the good players already have teams, a team house , an overall nice praticing environment whereas foreigners just don't. You don't even give them a chance by picking up koreans. That's my point of view. It's got nothing to do with racism but rather with wanting to see some foreigners smallering the skillgap :/
This is a chance for us to develop unknown, talented players. It just happens that they're Koreans... makes no difference if they're white, asian, black, green, etc.
For me it does make a difference. I mean, if I was in your position , I would want my teams to win. Many koreans got it what it takes to win big events. No doubt about it. But what you are having here is an academy and I would love to cheer for some foreigner guys instead of more koreans. It's the same if you are cheering for a , let's say small soccer club. If you are playing against Real Madrid with tons and tons of skilled players and your small club makes a score or plays really well, it's just way more fun to cheer for them than for the big, expected-to-win team.

You don't need to 'give players a chance' in Sc2 because players themselves can easilly sign up to endless online tournament and work their way up the ladder for free.
The only thing you need a team for is LAN events or invite only tournaments, which are not at all necessary in order to make a name for yourself.
Just look at a guy like Nerchio, he isn't where he is because of a team, it's all his own hard work and grinding out ladder and free (or cheap) to enter online cups.
You only need a team to finance you once you're hitting LAN's, which will be no problem to find if you're posting good results in online tournaments and hitting the top end of the ladder.
It's racist because you shouldn't care where a player is from (unless he's from your own country). People should like players for their play.
There's nothing sadder and more amusing to me about this scene than when a guy from Brazil is desperate that anyone from the Ukraine beats anyone from South Korea.

Please be more racist.
Just my 2 cents though
'Your team' isn't every damn country in the world that isn't South Korea.
And the current situation in Sc2 is that Korea has all the skill and the foreigners have all the money. Personally I like to see players with the most skill make the most money.

The bolded text is a fairly general statement but it's pretty accurate. Sure there are 4-5 non korean players that can perform at the Code S level....but there are about 30 koreans who are also at that level...and every team obviously wants to be as good as they can be.

None of those players can compete with top Koreans.
MMA, Bomber, MVP, Nestea, Losira (and most of Code S) are well ahead of any of those guys.
There is a reason Sase, Nani, Thorzain etc.. all got eliminated from Code A in the first round.
ye the reason being that they landed in Korea one day before playing
I don't really think that's a fair statement though -- Koreans land one day before every MLG and have to play for two whole days non-stop while tired and jetlagged. And of course, they win every single time in an overwhelming fashion.
just a thought in general. Why dont players change their sleep scheduale prior to their trip. They know they have to fly to korea. A week before they fly slowly change their sleep scheduale to fit korean time. Its not like pro gamers have a job where they have to be up at a certain time...
Changing your sleep schedule is easier said than done. Jetlag will always be an issue. You can minimize it, but you can never evade it completely.
And the current situation in Sc2 is that Korea has all the skill.
first of all that is more racist than my posts before.
My question to you is, why sign koreans when they can prove themselves through tournaments like Code-A and Code-S since that is where the skill is at its highest. Also I'm fairly sure that Fenix, ThorZain etc. are on the same level as those guys on the fnatic B-Team. Another thing to notice is that, if you want to see the best players, why sign B-Teamers instead of really good players for your A-team or why would you release someone like Sen? All in all your statements lack some logic there. Anyways I'm not here to flame or discredit anything. I just think everyone's like "wow they are koreans and the korean server is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more difficult ( in fact it is but not as much as you want it to be ) so they are good and all foreigners are just terrible"
I don't see anything wrong in wanting some foreigners to win instead of koreans because as I said, it's just getting freaking boring.

I don't know why you're posting when you have no idea about the facts of situations.
Firstly Code S and Code A are the two hardest competitions in the world, the third hardest is the Code A qualifiers there are extremely few opportunities for Koreans to compete that isn't extremely high level. Where as EU and NA have countless small tournaments all the time.
Sen was not released by Fnatic, he wanted to play in the Taiwanese Star League, Fnatic 100% wanted to keep Sen it was Sen who didn't want to renew his contract with Fnatic.
I assume they're signing B Teamers because they're cheaper and all the A teamers are already on teams (and post Puma debacle contracted). But unlike American or EU B teamers these guys are actually good and talented. The number of EU/NA players with the potential to win or place well at tournaments within the next year but who aren't already on a team are extremely few where as Korea is a gold mine of untapped talent. Just look at Hero, Puma, Hwangsin and Rain and how they're dominating clan wars for their teams. Hero will cost Liquid a fraction of what EG are paying Huk but he's arguably a better player.
This will be interesting. Not sure how well this will work out considering they really need more then just 3 players. Maybe they will invite some foreigners to come practice with them.

i fail to see how thats racist? I can only think of 1 team off the top of my head that gives foreigners a chance who havent "proved themselves" in a tournament(complexity..even having a tourny to find players for their academy). Hows it racist to want to see the same chances offered to korean players(korean teams have had b teams since forever or a team like slayers who've been known to pick up "nobodys"), since no foreign team does atm.
This is a great idea on so many different levels. It gives support to unknown Korean players and it provides Fnatic players with skilled practice partners. Totally a win-win situation. It will also make a bigger name for Fnatic and MSI in Korea.
I actually think this is a better idea than just poaching Korean players outright because you get more practice partners for a much lesser price.
Sounds very nice. And a good way to make up for the recent loss of Fenix and Sen! For a moment I thought Fnatic might go the way of MYM, but looks like you're fine :D
