We at Up Close Gamers have been in Korea staying at the StarTale house for a few days now, we headed down to the media event which is normally only for Korean press only, well we were very lucky to be allowed to film during the press event and have some great videos to share with you.
We have a video containing all the questions asked to Stephano and NaNiwa during the conference, that delves into the NaNiwa vs NesTea situation and Stephano plays it cool.
Interview with Stephano before the games - HERE "I won't say it is difficult, it is useful, playing on European ladder is like having fun, you don't have a lot of challenge, on [Korean] ladder you meet good players"
Press conference with NaNiwa and Stephano - NaNiwa tells NesTea to relax - HERE NaNiwa to NesTea - "I just want to tell NesTea to stop being so angry, should relax a bit more" Watch the full conference to hear NesTea reply!
Stephano talking about who he does not want to play - "I think all the players in my group are really scary and I am not wanting to play anyone but I have to if I want to win"
Don't forget to subscribe to our youtube for more exciting, exclusive and original content.
Check out some of the pictures from yesterday, you can see more content from Blizzard cup day 1 HERE.

Naniwa should really stop pushing NesTeA's buttons
|
On December 13 2011 11:01 mkichy wrote:Naniwa should really stop pushing NesTeA's buttons
No, if anything he should keep pushing them because he needs to make sure he's in Nestea's head for their game in 7 hours to increase his chance of winning.
|
James you are the man! Really love all of the work you and UpClose are doing with all of this coverage of players and events. Can't wait for the next great piece! :D

I like the ongoing Naniwa-NesTea rivalry, but if Nestea just stomps him tomorrow he's going to look foolish.

Meh, nestea answered "I good" at the end which I understand as "no problem" because in the tl interviews he said
The stuff at MLG, that's in the past. I don't care about that now.
|
let's go naniwa! rooting for you tonight
|
He's probably just playing it up for the fans. Why not? Get's people talking about both of them.Any exposure is good exposure (to a certain degree).

More than one word out of Naniwa? Wow that media training is paying dividends....
Oh ya I forgot Naniwa cheated...

The awkwardacity of Naniwa's answers. I love it.
|
Best quote of the interview Naniwa: "Why would I say that" in reference to what style he will play.
|
My favorite part is DRG grinning at the answers.
|
Awesome content! Love both these players.
|
Does the title really have to be something that encourages flame-baiting? I feel like if you're trying to grow e-sports journalism you shouldn't be emulating sensationalist tabloids so much in grabbing quotes out of context.
|
Thanks for the coverage guys! Great interview and pictures.
|
Dam since when did Naniwa get skinny and cute?

I'm hoping for this
honestly who does naniwa think he is? he's won a MLG event (and a very easy one at that) nestea has won THREE GSL championships, just because nani beat nestea at MLG providence doesn't mean he is on the same level as nestea
as much as I understand why he's shittalking nestea, other than his recent performance, he's next to nothing compared to nestea

He also won the global invitational that had MVP and Nestea in it... But all this 'shit talk' is in good fun, just enjoy a rivalry!

Great perspective on the interviews! The ending had some great reaction! Thanks for the content and keep it coming!
|
Love the Nestea/Naniwa growing rivalry and that it seems like neither of them are actually seriously upset with the other. DRG just sitting around laughing during the whole thing made me laugh too
|
hahahaha DRG is getting a kick out of the naniwa/nestea questions
|
Great video haha. thanks guys.

everyone looks so sad except for DRG lol

What did Nestea say at the end to Naniwa? Can't really catch it
|
lmfao naniwa telling someone to relax when he goes apeshit over the smallest of inconveniences? That's like destiny telling someone to be non BM or bitbybit telling someone to not all in. Pretty good answers though, and entertaining watch, thanks for that.
|
LOL "What is your strategy going to be for the games?" Naniwa: "....what..? why would I tell you??"
And you can clearly see that Naniwa and Nestea are clearly made up... They were poking each other all for good fun and I never seen NesTea on a more relaxed side before...he always seems so..serious..
I like how DRG immediately understood what Naniwa said about "relax" and start cracking up on his own while the likes of MVP/NesTea were just like ":|" until it was translated for them
And damn..Stephanos answers...seem so straight forward/direct o.o...he's one honest man.

This is Starcraft. Naniwa is shit talking. I personally enjoy it, the closer things get to fighting games the better imo. Makes things so much more hype. Thank you for the article UCG, going to bookmark your site.

UpClose keeps putting awesome content out there. Good job! (Bit sad that stephano held his mic to far away at the press conferance, could barely hear him)
|
naniwa looks like a kpop star
|
i dont care if naniwa goes 1-3 as long as he defeats nestea
|
That looked like The Council of Elrond, lol. Koreans are visibly more calm, especially MVP and Nestea. I always appreciate that Stephano (when not joking around) is actually quite humble and level-headed. Eg: that participating is achievement for him.
|
After all the MLG drama hype... I have to say (I knew this), but its really lovely to see that NaNi and NesTea can joke around, and theyre both happy about it !
NANIWA & NESTEA FIGHTING! (but mostly NaNi ^^!)
Greatest rivalry in SC2 :D
And yeah, greatest and the most logical answer from Naniwa haha ^^.. Tbh, such an uneccesary question, no player will reveal their play other than saying "Will try to show a good game" like always
|
They didn't really ask any questions to too many of them, it was basically a Stephano and Naniwa interview.
I hope Nestea puts Naniwa in his place.

Of course they spoke to all but the video shows clips of the english questions and answers (at least thats what I THINK)
|
I really hope that Nestea puts Naniwa down....
|
If you watch the press conference (the ones that were in text), you can see that the press conference featured on the video strictly is cut to only Naniwa/Stephano because they were all asked a bunch of questions (especially the funny part on who they want to win the blizzcon :p), you were shown only a small portion of it regarding the foreign players and Nestea's reaction to Naniwa's comments.
|
On December 13 2011 11:04 Danyl wrote: I like the ongoing Naniwa-NesTea rivalry, but if Nestea just stomps him tomorrow he's going to look foolish.
So you think NaNiwa should say -Yeah I assume I will loose.. even if I am 2-1 against NesTea in matches.... Wouldn't make much sense then imo. I would say that he would not look like a fool however, since they would be EQUAL in matches won . I think your comment makes no sense sir!

That was an interesting interview to watch! and to all the people going all "wow I hate Naniwa now for bming Nestea again" and stuff...did you guys even watch the video? It was pretty obvious it was said in joking and taken that way on both sides so chill out a bit people. I'm not a huge Naniwa fan or anything but it's getting kind of irritating to see this said so often now.

great conference though i didnt understand what nestea said in english

I don't see Naniwa getting out of the Group stage though.

lol Naniwa and awkward interviews, never change man. He may come across as a dickhead sometimes but at least he has the heart of a champ and much like Idra he comes across as brutally honest. I guess the lame ass haters on here can't handle that.
....although I do want Nestea beat him down :3
|
Brilliant interviews, good to see Nani and Nestea laughing together! See forum drama lovers, its not serious!
|
Stephano and Naniwa are so bad at interviews, it is kinda embarrassing. >_<
That was a cute jab at Nestea though, "I am lucky to have an opponent that I have beaten twice." Short and sweet, I approve, very well executed. =P
Also Nestea looked like a fucking bear with that jacket and sitting next to those other players.

Yeah omg NesTea is so big! Like twice as tall as MVP haha
|
Naniwa is such a troll. In all seriousness, I think this type of rivalry will be beneficial for most parties involved. There is now a storyline between the two of them, which generates interest, and increased publicity whenever they meet up in the future.
|
I really really hope nani crushes throats. If both foreigners go out R1, that will be sad. Especially because these are the two bests foreigners we have to offer.
|
lolol, I love when John asks if Nani's going to rush, macro, or what style he's planning, and Nani's just like, "Uhhh, why would I answer that..." Rooting for you tonight Naniwa! Hope all your hard work will pay off.
|
naniwa is the worst interviewer ever haha. Its almost comic relief lol.
|
Hero look very nervous unlike mc or DRG mvp, nestea, always laughing, even leenock is more relax than him. I think hero is either overconfident after DHW or just totally nervous that he is missing some crucial timing attack/ cheese early game.
|
It's awesome that GSL put this press conference in for the fans - that's good thinking. Great coverage by UCG. But as someone said before, I am also getting a bit sick of the sensationalist topic starters - that belongs on reddit, not TL.

Actually he adds that it's Code S he wants and trains for, so it's Code S he really want, nothing else matters because without Code S he can't be the best player in the world. Makes sense to me. Maybe not the best answer, but not that aweful if you just listen to everything.

eSports journalism isn't really a set-in-stone thing yet. Most people outside of TL Staff (which I wouldn't consider freelance) are still dabbling in writing about eSports. If you provide OP with constructive criticism instead of rolling your e-eyes at him and telling him you hate his piece, he can take it and come back with a better model for future journalism.

What's the big deal with the thread title? People get so upset over such trivial things. What's it like to live life so stressed out and upset over every little thing all the time? It's for entertainment.. calm down.

I can't believe Nestea is making the excuse that a pause screwed up his build in a game vs. Nani. It seems like that is the first Nani heard of that and his expression is priceless. I really do wonder what he was thinking at that moment.

For the record Nestea is known for coming up with this kind of post-game explanations after a loss. You can remember him blaming his loss in non-gsl korean tournaments over the quality of the computer on which he had to play. Now the question is wether the script is made up by himself or by his coach (that we know for being very active on twitter for this kind of matters).

I hope they do too, but only because tournaments need to start restricting what players can and can not do during games and actually enforcing rules ala sc1. Shit is too lax and people like naniwa make sc2 esports seem more of a joke rather than something actually entertaining. Casters also need to stop spinning players as "amazing" and "great guys" and actually call them out on what they do wrong.
you do anything like that in a real sport, you better believe you'll be getting a call from a lot of people and publically humiliated and likely never trusted
edit- read above spoilers instead of trying to give excuses for trash players who are taking up a slot for others that deserve it more

If you ever see a football match where one team is 4-0 down at 80minutes, then you see players who are so demotivated that they aren't trying. Sure, occasionally they try to take a goal as a consolation, but as often as not they don't, which is who you get 6-0 games.

did you watch the first game? + Show Spoiler + At first I just thought he screwed up but now with that last game I wouldn't be surprised if naniwa scored 4 own goals since a player of his skill / gamesense wouldn't take a sightseeing trip around the map instead of killing the zerg tech structures when he was in the zerg base and the zerg had no army
