On the 5th, “Arena of Legend- the King of Kong” was held through the Battlenet and DRG beat Losira 4:1 at the Finals.
You are now the King of Kong
I am very happy right now. But this was only an event therefore I still feel like I’m still in the line of Kongs. I feel like people will keep make fun of me and call me Kong line.
You only lost your second set. You won 4:1 overall. Why did you lose the second game?
I wanted to end the game quickly, therefore I gave up on my game play and tried to do an all-in. But that did not work out too well. I should have just done what I have planned. After that game, I just played as I have practiced and ended up winning.
You won prize money approximately $2000 (Korean won deleted to reduce confusion...). How do you plan to spend that money?
I don’t have any plans yet. I would like to eat good food with my teammates for the new year.
What is your view of the “proper” way to escape the “Kong Line?”
All I have to do is win the Code S to escape the so called “Kong Line.” It doesn’t have to be this season. I think I’ll be fine even if I win the GSL Regular Season later. If I fail to win, I should probably try to not get second place? I would rather fall out of Round of 32 or Round of 16 than lose at the Finals (haha).
When do you think you will end your relationship with the Kong Line?
I really like how I am playing these days and I’m starting this year well. Therefore I think I’ll escape the Kong Line soon if I keep it up.
This is your first victory for this New Year 2012. 2012 is looking good for you.
Since I just won the first tournament of 2012, I think I’ll be able to do well this year. Even I think my playing skills have improved. In fact I am quite astonished by how good I am watching my own replay VODs! Except for the games where I do not play as planned, I really like the way I am playing the games. I feel that I have improved a lot. Also, our team’s skill level has increased tremendously overall. Therefore winning chance is 50/50 in my team when we do an internal team tournament of our own to rank our skills.
In Code S Round of 32, you are in the same group as 2 other teammates.
I hate it. If there were only two MVP players in the group, we can both proceed. But 3 means that one must fall out of the group. It breaks my heart. It is unfortunately, but I will obviously/must advance and I’m sure Genius and sC will be able to sort out the conflict amongst themselves and one of them will advance.
What is your new year’s resolution?
I hope to win more prize money than concentrate on the quantity of the tournaments won. My goal is to win approx.. $259616 (Korean won deleted to reduce confusion...) this year. I hope to earn that much when combining both GSL and Foreign tournaments. It’s a lot of money, but I want to be a bit greedy this year.
Any last words to your fans for the new years? Fans! Have a happy new year! I hope all of you reach your goals and dreams!

Should be AoL:King of Kong Winner's Interview. Your title already spoils it all LOL. and also the huge ass picture of DRG.

"I hope to win more prize money than concentrate on the quantity of the tournaments won. My goal is to win 300 million won( approx.. $259616) this year. I hope to earn that much when combining both GSL and Foreign tournaments. It’s a lot of money, but I want to be a bit greedy this year."
A bit greedy one might say indeed...
|
oh... wow I really suck with titles.....
|
Hands down the best zerg atm.

Kong originated from Yellow, its a korean word for bean that has several connections to Yellow. Yellow was the first notoriously second-place player, and the 'kong-line' is the history of players in a similar situation, aka mkp.
|
I like the goal, setting his sites on Nestea/MVP/MC prize money
|
Also, our team’s skill level has increased tremendously overall. Therefore I am actually around 5th place in my team when we do an internal team tournament of our own to rank our skills.
If that's true then WOW
|
the spoiler alert at the top of the article is great. ;-) but i imagine the title of the op and the picture is enough to spoil, lol.
great job on the translation.

Sorry, but who ever considered DRG to be in the SC2 kong line? For one thing it's far too early for there to be an SC2 kong line. Secondly there's only really one player to have that reputation and he's won a lot more medals than any of the others.
|
Shouldnt 222 Million Won (Approximately $2000) be 200,000? Great artical.

My apologies. misinterpretation. 50/50 chance of winning. Not 5th place. My bad~

Yep, what most people don't know about Foxer is that he actually has a lot of 1st places in tournaments, I think even more than his 2nds...
But people like to concentrate on the 2nd-s, creates more drama I guess.

sorry but i do not understand, was their a typo.
"You won total prize money of 222 Million Won (Approximately $2000)"
but "My goal is to win 300 million won( approx.. $259616) this year "
i could just be being retarded, but that makes it seem like there has been a typo somewhere. did he win $20,000 ?

Total as in from this event.. I will fix that to create less confusion

"Being a Kong refers to a player who is a solid player but have yet to win a GSL or unable to win a major big tournament." Facepalmed at this.
Nice interview. The prize money he wants to win is a bit... crazy.
|
God i want that amount of money shitttt
|
My money was on DRG all along, he's really on the top tier level as opposed to the "2nd placers" lol. Plus, he did win the LG Cinema tournament back several months ago.
|
How is 222 million = 2000 dollars and 300 million = 256 thousand? I know there's a recession and my math is shitty but I'm still confused.
|
yo DRG, if you meet your goal feel free to send me the excess, don't wanna get too greedy now :D
|

It should be 2.22 million.
|
That's quite the ambitious goal for the year. Can't wait to see how well he performs in the upcoming GSL and foreign tournaments.
|
kevin yoonstar pro-est of all interpreters!
awesome job DRG, keep it up :D
|
Thanks! Korean Won has been delted to reduce confusion.. it's so confusing cuz the number system is a little different in Korea.
|
Damn girl that's a lot of money. I hope he works hard so he can do it!
|
haha good interview, nice goals and self image
|
Hahahaha this guy is such a baller XD
|
very ambitious i like
i also like the part about watching his own replays and going "damn im good" haha. what a boss!

It's nice that you tried to delete numbers to reduce confusion when in fact you created more of it.

|
Kinda stupid, you're not "in the Kong line" from a SINGLE second place finish!
|
Hahahaha. $259,000 is a lot of money to be shooting for. And I love his outlook on his GSL group. He's going to advance and his teammates can fight amongst themselves to advance. Love it.
|
I find it both amusing and sad that the interviewer keeps going "You're the best Kong! How does it feel to be in the Kong line? No really, are you worried you won't escape the Kong line? " when DRG's clearly not one, and he's just like "uh... I think I'll be okay... thanks all the same."
"Oh and by the way, I'm so good I've found myself batting off to my own replays. And I'm going to win a gazillion dollars this year. What's your new year's resolution?"
|
According to sc2 earnings mvp won 256 000 dollars this year, I guess DRG choose this number for this reason. DRG number one in 2012? :p
|
Hilarious interview! Gotta love DRG! Bruce-Lee-Lookin-Mofo!

That's the interesting kind of response I like to see from korean pros

$260,000 yeh that is pre good... wait what! that is US dollars! wtf he is crazy
|
|
Drg greed is good! FIGHTING!!
|
I think dongraegu mentioned before that he did not join team slayers to focus on university. maybe he wants to win that much to help pay it off.

He wasn't going to join any team, but the coach of team MVP poached him by telling him if DRG joins and the starcraft career wouldn't work out, the coach would pay for his university tuition. ...that's a pretty good offer to pass on.
