According to Flash, his Golden Mouse is currently locked in the bank's safe-deposit box.
Golden Mouse is the highest honor in Starcraft, namely, three-time OSL champions. It's composed of 275 grams of gold. By the current value, it's more than 12 million Korean won. Most Golden Mouse owners keep it at home, but Flash puts it in the bank's safe-deposit box.
This is because Flash's home was almost burgled a few years ago. One day after midnight, Flash's mother heard some noises outside their door. She got up and saw 6 people were trying to lever the door. She called the police in time and the burglars were not able to lever the door, so nothing was stolen. After this, Flash thought keeping valuable things at home is not safe anymore, so he decided to put it in the bank's safe-deposit box instead.
Flash said: "Although no one was hurt and nothing was stolen, after that day, I discussed with my parents and we thought it's better to put it [the Golden Mouse] in a safer place. Now the Golden Mouse is in the bank's safe-deposit box, and only I know where it is. There is definitely some costs [of keeping it in the bank], but this thing is the testimony of three OSL champions. I absolutely can't lose it before I show it to my children."
Saw speculation on reddit that flash might be going on live on three next week to announce he's joining EG. Now that's pretty far fetched speculation, but it honestly wouldn't surprise me if flash did join eg, with money freed up by idra/stephano retiring and getting more new sponsors recently.
Wow, I would've been impressed if I found out it was just gold leafed, but solid gold? With golds current value that's about $12,400 O_O (Would have been worth over $20,000 towards the end of last year).

Well I'm sure Flash earns enough money to rent an apartment lol..
Thats not the point. He lives in the KT house, spends most of the time there. Why would he rent an apartment just for himself, when he could rent it for his family/mother and live there when needed.

Of course. Just being able to spend money doesn't win games*, you gotta get the right composition.
Why does everyone assume the 6 of them went for the mouse? For all we know, it was a usual robbery, not a targeted one, he just decided to preserve his accolades.

I'm just glad nobody got hurt. It must be terrifying to be in your house and to have 6 men trying to bust your door down. I used to have nightmares about it when my parents first started leaving me home alone.
On another note, I can totally see burglars not realizing that the golden mouse is valuable. Lots of people don't know about e-sports, and I can totally see a burglar seeing the mouse and thinking it's a plastic novelty item, you know, being a sculpture of a mouse and all (you don't typically find mouse-shaped sculptures made of precious metals).

Right now gold is $1276 per ounce and platinum is $1357. Diamonds aren't really openly traded - good-quality diamond in that quality would cost a massive amount of money, but you can make synthetic diamonds for not that much.

It IS solid gold, 99.9% purity, 275 grams of it.
12m won for 275g of pure gold sounds about right.
It may have 275 grams of gold but that doesn't mean that the trophy's only 275 grams.

Rumors have been floating around the Korean community for some time that KeSPA teams are cutting back on SC2 after this seasons Proleague to focus money on LoL (KT just picked up one of the more popular players. Maknoon from Najin, for example).
However, rumors are rumors, and this one is pretty damn silly - especially as Flash is still a marquee player (and arguably the best in SC2 out of the TBLS group).

Yep exactly.12m won is only about $12000 (AU). Judging from the picture (although you can't really tell that clearly), it seems only the mouse part is actual gold since it seems much more lustrous than the base.

The parts that're actually gold are probably 22k.
It's around 64k value in your currency and 13.2 million won in korea if it's 99.9% purity when you melt the gold down. It's definitely something you want to keep in a safe deposit box since the value is only gonna go up over time. This is outside of the "sentimental" value of course.

I don't know why so many people are surprised. I mean there have been several write-ups on the accomplishments with varying stories on their total worth, but at the very least they tell you exactly how many karats of gold they used in each trophy. They are marked. I still cannot find the images of the platinum or the diamond anywhere. X_X
Anyway, I believe every trophy should be ionic in a way that we remember them. Unfortunately a lot of the current trophies seem to miss the mark. I had no problem with the old OSL trophies but everything else recently just lacks creativity other than the Iron Squid trophy.

To be fair, my D+/C- on iCCup friend once pulled off a successful 1v6 against me and my noob friends back when I was a noob, so I'm sure Flash can handle worse odds. 1v16 should be reasonable.
even if it is only the mouse-part of the tropphy that is in gold.. it cannot be 'solid-gold' unless the mouse is seriously hollow 275g is a bit less than 1 cubic-inch.
Based on the picture, I'd say the mouse itself is about 6 cubic inches... or about 100 cm3
Oh, and for mechanical reason it is very unlikely to be 22K (the little cord sticking out of the mouse would be way too susceptible to plastic deformation with 22K gold, iow too fragile)
So it is quite likely that the 275g refer to the pure (24K) gold content of the contraption. which would translate to about 23 cm3 of 18K gold... which indicate that 1/ only the mouse is in gold, and 2/ it is hollow.

Yeah, isn't pure gold like a really soft metal that bends and deforms at like the slightest touch? It would have to have some other metal in it, if only to allow it to keep its shape.

You tell me. You decided to click on the thread, who's title clearly described what it was about.
275 grams is 9.7 ounces, I think that's around 8.8 troy ounces so using GC June @1290, thats around $11,300. Of course you'd have to melt it down first and whatnot. That being said, I'm sure the sentimental value is far more important to him.
The potential thieves didn't think it through very well. The only way they'd be able to get rid of it is if they melted it down for the gold, and every pawn shop/gold seller would be on the lookout for someone selling 275g of gold, as soon as the police report came in. Koreans take their SC SERIOUSLY.

That's why fences exist. That way you don't have to take your stolen jewelry to a CASH4GOLD shop.
A gold trader isn't going to give a damn about the life story of the item he is melting and besides the equipment required to melt such a tiny item would be extremely cheap so you can just melt it yourself and take the homemade ingot to the trader for an assay.
This quantity of gold would sell for 96-97% of the current nymex/London fix price depending on how well you know the trader or how good you are at haggling.
As the melt value of the item is worth (ballpark) 5% of Flash's annual salary I think the entire thread is irrelevant.

True. SC2 is a rarely played game at Korean PC bangs (the main place people in Korea meet to play online). Ironically, Blizzard's extreme vigilant legal oppression against people making 3rd party LAN hacks has created this environment.

12 million won= ~10k USD which is what 270 gram of gold is worth, give or take. Obviously the trophy weighs more than 270 grams total. But that value estimate on straight gold weight is accurate enough.
