Until 2012 the STX Group's total assets... (some writing on the company's poor financial state, which I'm not particularly adept at translating, and doesn't really talk much about the SC2 team)
On the other hand the STX Soul team's remaining players will be following a procedure following the guidelines from the association (KeSPA I believe), and move to different teams or retire abroad, even if the procedure is not followed.
(Sorry for the fairly lazy translation, but I don't find the discussion on the financial state of STX the most invigorating thing to translate right now)
Following suit of winning proleague and despite assurances made by some players and the coach of STX Soul, it is reported by Fomos.kr that STX Soul will be disbanding potentially due to the financial decline of the parent sponsoring company: STX Corporation.
Rumors of INnoVation switching over to Acer due to news closing of the team seem very likely.
When/If someone can properly translate the article, I can attach it with full accreditation.
It always seemed likely after STX filed for bankruptcy protection, there was almost zero chance creditors would have any interest in supporting a pro SC2 team, unfortunately. Especially given that STX never had any real consumer market, even as an advertising expense it didn't make sense (there isn't a huge demographic overlap between e-sports fans and shipping magnates).
Oh no, this is huge news, but not he kind I wanted too hear.
Ok, my mind is racing now and I have many questions that really need to be answered so we can have a clear picture of what the competitive scene will look like in Korea.
1st You wrote that STX Soul could "potentially" disband, so it isn't official yet. Is it not then possible that KeSPA could support STX Soul the team, in the same fashion they have supported T8, until they find a new sponsor?
2nd If the answer to the 1st question is no and STX does disband, how are the players handled, will they be distributed to other teams (most probably some to Jin Air since they require a lot of new players), or will they they be allowed to join any team they see fit with KeSPA mediating it all?
3rd And last question, if STX does disband who would take their place in proleague?

Even if it is, it's almost certain Innovation is going to Acer now.
I have heard that some former STX players might stick together and play in GSTL as " soul " . The STX sponsor is 100% gone so them staying in proleague is not an option. Proleague is likely to either end in 2014 or merge with GSTL in an attempt to save it.
Er, this is just speculation. Just because Innovation may or may not be going to a foreign team doesn't mean the team is going to disband.
mm that link doesn't say STX is disbanded or going to disband. It says that with the transfer of Innovation to "the foreign team", the ongoing existence of STX Soul must be called into question. It also points out that if STX pulls out, the players go into the stewardship of KeSPA. There's nothing about KeSPA making another 8th team or anything like that. Some of the Korean comments are calling the writer out on this just being a sensationalist editorial.
Bad News. Seems obvious that at least Innovation should find a team (acer) able to support him. For the remaining players I am not sure. At least they git the SPL win.

Even if this specific article is " speculation " we know with almost 100% certainty it's true.
The writing has been on the wall for quite some time about STX Soul now, thius shouldn't come as a suprise to anyone. It is a sad day for sure the day it becomes "official" because they are such an old team with a lot of history. I hope the players will find new teams and the whole ordeal will go as good as is possible. STX Soul will be missed for sure

Thanks you for the info, this basically seems to just confirm that Innovation is indeed leaving the team, but beyond that doesn't indicate if or not the team will disband. Still many questions remain as to what would happen if it did pull out, and especially what the next teams would be in the next PL (or if there would even be one).

It's not a sure thing by any means, I really don't know exactly how likely that part is but it was mentioned as a possibility by someone inside STX.
This might explain why Innovation has been a bit off recently, with this hanging over the team it would be pretty depressing. Hopefully once it is resolved he will be back to his old all killing self.

Sorry, but in Asian business culture, "could potentially disband" is code for "will definitely disband". But as anywhere else, they wouldn't say anything at all if there was any hope and they were still trying to pull it together. Making this kind of announcement means they gave up on trying to save the team because STX just can't do it.
They may be giving their players the heads up that they need to update their resumes and signal other teams to give their players a chance to land on their feet, such as Innovation going to Acer if that's true. Hopefully these players all find new teams and don't spend any time without salary.
So does this mean innovation is gone more or less? I simply doubt that the next team which picks up innovation (Acer?) can grant him nearly the same training atmosphere as STX...
Sad that the days are here where even a proleague win can't stop the dissolution of a top team Even in the good ol' BW days they would sometimes threaten in playoffs and then to finally win...and Congrats! They shut down! It's so sad to see this happen
then why give the false faith after winning the PL sigh, with or without this, Proleague is already in trouble. It's hard to live as a naive optimists, even in Esports.
I'm sad for all the current players, STX Soul has such a deep history. They werent my favorite team seeing as they had no player that stood out for me even during the BW days, but this must be crushing to the fans that kept cheering for em all these years. Also if this means Proleague is screwed then.. yeah GG

Jesus shite. Well RIP so sad. So many good players to pick up. And damn gz to Acer on picking Innovation that is pretty mad. Maybe this is the reason for a mini slump for Innovation?? Hopefully some foreign teams can pick up some of the STX players to boost their rosters aswell as korean teams picking some up too.
This basically means that something will happen with Proleague. I guess that CJ Entus message on their fb account about something GSTL related might be true as well
NO. Dammit, only KeSPA team that I thoroughly enjoyed. :C I can't contemplate SC2 without them. Now the rivalry between Soulkey and Innovation can no longer be expressed through Proleague :c
Well now that I actually read the article, this is NOT a proclamation of STX Soul's disbanding. It is an editorial of the author's opinion if the rumors of INoVation moving to Acer is true. As I am on the phone, I can't provide a translation right now, but I will attempt to do so soon.

Sad but I hope it means a merger of PL and GSTL teams to form just one league with 8-12 teams and place for all code S/premier league players on the teams. Six remaining PL teams, Startale, Azubu, MVP, LGIM and some mergers or newfound teams of the smaller teams like acer, prime, stx soul and eg/tl.

Wow looking at the google translate one there was a really telling line that came out pretty clearly "or retire abroad" so it does seem oddly ominous that Innovation will join Acer. I have to say its looking more and more likely that he will and I was just thinking it was silly hype from reddit. Its a massive coup for Acer and if they send him to foreign events like Dreamhack, IEM...etc he will scoop up a lot of those tournaments and the WCS points that you get for them. It just makes so much sense for a foreign team to get him.

EGTL as they are now definitely have what it takes to play in PL in my opinion. They've been nothing but improving and dominating tournaments.

Long time coming unfortunately, I remember them having some financial problems a couple of years ago during the bw era, I'm sure KeSPa did their best to prolong this. Whats actually interesting for me is how much money SK and KT pour in their SC teams and for how long are they are going to keep doing it

hmm this is speculation. Having said that, people have been saying that STX the company was facing a financial crisis so it wouldn't surprise me if it happened. Best of luck to the players! I think if PL combines with GSTL, they can have a stronger team league and would continue the ESF vs KeSPA rivalry that a lot of people talk about(not that the players care lol).

Not alot of data to state it as a fact, Jaedong is probably the most fitting counter argument. In Kespa he would have never attended many tourneys and his chances to do well would be way smaller. But we don't know since we have no Kespa trained Jaedong currently to compare. Then we have Parting who went back to Kespa and fell deep.
Kespa has a superb training environment, but they aren't the only ones anymore.
Innovation seems to be a coach depended player, so hope Acer bought the STX coach as well or he might drop a bit. On the other hand Acer has a great coach already, so I might be wrong. Maybe STX Soul will become Acer Soul, and the price to pay was Innovation :p. I mean EG has 2 Sc2 teams as well xD

Wow. I'm afraid of thinking about what Acer.Scarlett would accomplish if she was in a kespa team. I mean, a foreigner in a foreign team that was close to beat Bomber (2 - 3), that beat the OSL Champion, lost 2 - 3 to JvZ in WCS AM, stomped aLive 3 - 0.
Wow this sucks. I was hoping for EG Innovation since kespa players to EG means said player(s) will improve. Just look at JD. He improved when joining EG while declined while staying With t8. If EG is smart, they'll buy out Acer so these things dont happen.

I asked to Khaldor if such a merge was possible two weeks ago. According to him, it's impossible because of the rivalry between GOM and OGN. For me the only way to see a merge would involve OGN giving up SC2.

Look at the players' tournament performances. Jaedong, HerO, aLive, Oz, Revival, Taeja, Snute could make a strong team core for sure.
I never thought they didn't care enough about Proleague. People were expecting results too quickly from players who hadn't been in a team environment like this for a long time.

This is bad news for the Robot Terran. Nothing outside of a few ESF teams (ST, IM, MVP) has produced the same kind of training regimen that the KeSPA teams have thrived on, if he does move to a foreign team, I'm going to be surprised if we ever see the same kind of results that we've seen from Innovation thus far.

To be fair, his results were backed by hellbat drops (that easily free'd him(with his level of execution) from all the troubles usual TvT and TvP has) and his insane TvZ. Now, that WCS Korea has really low amount of zergs, and i doubt we shall see more than 4 zergs in Ro16, and his TvT and TvP being lackluster (compared to, obviously) he would not win this GSL for sure, even with that practice regimen KeSPA had.
I wonder what made INnoVation go to Acer instead of EGTL of some sort. Either way, if EG isn't taking INnoVation, at least take STX SouL Dear. He shows a lot of potential and has some solid rankings
STX responds "We (STX &Acer) had contact but didn't sign anything. It looks like in Germany, that party gets in touch with 'the player' directly and unilaterally. And then they made announcement. This makes us very awkward. Please wait for the final announcement."
And this is why sponsors are important, it doesn't matter what you win if you can't pay your players or the rent. Its not really the teams fault, since they had one sponsor, who's name was on the team, but it shows how dependent they are on that one sponsor. Huge bummer, but it sounds like the players will find homes at other teams.

That's how Kespa teams work tho. They don't go after multiple sponsors each. They just all represent Kespa.

Yeah, that is a huge bummer for those teams, because they are totally dependent on that sponsor keeping up their support. Its a good system and has worked out for all this time, but this is one of the flaws. I can see why some Korean players would want to go to a foreign team like EG, that isn't solely dependent on one sponsor.

Yeah but if STX disbands, wouldn't we need another team in proleague anyway?
Axiom-Acer could play PL, but Scarlett already tweeted that they will attend GSTL.
EGTL as they are now definitely have what it takes to play in PL in my opinion. They've been nothing but improving and dominating tournaments.
Unless they make a 180turn the chances of EGTL in proleague are close to nil. EG making a new teamleague in the west and Coach park leaving the team. If you thought before they didn't care enough about proleague, what about now then.
They already had the EG Masters Cup though, which in my opinion was a much better format. I don't follow the ATC and their crap for a reason even though they have a lot more teams in it. I really don't care for joke leagues.
Joke league? Care to explain?
ATC format (players allowed playing more than once even if they lose); all the snafus during the league (having joint/joke teams, problems with admins after teams disbanding and not being able to recruit)? There were all sorts of issues I heard about with regards to the ATC. I never watched any of it. Now with the EG Masters Tournament I did watch some of it. The original format was pretty identical to that of the WGTour Clan League, which I was very fond of and competed in. I liked the format and ofc there are always things you can do better but I did tune in for some of it. The new format is something I don't care for and it's very reminiscent of the ATC. The times aren't set in stone, all sorts of problems with the website (I read a lot of critique on it). It's just something I have no interest in.

Alex has already posted his criteria when it comes to selecting which players he targets. Marketing & PR is a huge part of it; he wants content, so I'm not surprised he would pass on Bogus. With that said, I am a firm believer in being able to market anything with proper content and highlighting their strengths. I can come up with all sorts of commercial ideas and content for Bogus that would be a riot with the fans. If he doesn't see the dollar signs in it. No problem.

Name another Terran during that same period that wasn't using hellbat drops, and still managed to go deep into tournaments/win. A single unit didn't create his dominance for him.
His TvT may be in some question (since he's lost however many of the last TvT's he's played) but his TvP is still relatively solid as far as I'm concerned. A 2-0 loss to Naniwa doesn't mean that his TvP is bad, in both games he was over-aggressive and Naniwa followed up perfectly; he didn't do anything wrong leading up to those points where he over-extended.
Personally I think most of it relies on nerves/stamina. He wasn't the same Innovation after that 2-1 loss to Taeja. Taeja wore him out. All Taeja had to do for the next series was defend two cheeses from duckdeok.
Hey please make it clear for me Was that fomos source not official and just a speculation from community and so on ? From what i saw on fomos it's just a forum post :o

The problem with players like Innovation is that their marketability is usually based on their performance, and you're paying top dollar for someone who needs time to be associated with your team.
Compare that to players like Oz, Alive or Revival where EG could pick them up for a relatively cheap investment and then grow their EG connection along with their performance. When, say, Alive's contract is up for renewal, he can probably ask for a much higher price because of his WCS/team league performance, and EG would be much happier paying it since he's been well established as "EG.Alive" in the last year.
How could I have missed this piece of news... =/ I feel so empty after just being able to see them grab the PL trophy. Super happy just a few weeks back, and now so sad. Dark times..

Innovation played 1 tvt (failed 2 rax, 2 rax reaper win and bio against mech on whirlwind), 2 tvps (both against Rain, whom he 3-0'd before at MLG) and 4 tvzs on his path to GSL final. See? He is good, no doubt, but since the population of zergs in general have been shortened to a serious extent his tvz alone won't drive him to championships. And with nerf to hellbats Innovation seriously looked lost in TvP (where he either keeps overly defensive against toss, or absurdly overextends lately) and his TvT (that never was his best match-up in HotS for real) now does not look hot either. And yes, Innovation starts to choke after 2 losses in a row for some reason. And i claim that his dominance came from combination of his TvZ + large amount of zergs he was playing against all the way + hellbat drops and overall mechanical prowess (hellbat drops are only a small factor IMO, but notable in case of TvT).
I'm also thinking of this for the next proleague: there are now only 6 teams remaining, will IM and/or MVP become Kespa ? Will EGTL hit another shot ? (seems unlikely with Coach Park leaving), will (I'm probably drunk for just having this idea) GSTL and Proleague do a common team league or something close ? I can also see several STX players go to foreign teams (except hyvaa cause no one likes cheesers lol), I heard Green Wings (former Team 8) were thinking about acquiring a few new players (I'm kind of sorry to say this but with Argo retiring, they need it).

LoL, now that's a smart marketing move.
If Innovation is picked up by ACER, scarlet suddenly has (debatable) the best tvz practice partner on the planet.
I really think Kespa and esf should combine into a single team league at this point, I'm sure this is just wishful thinking with all the politics involved but I can dream can't I? If they keep losing teams and running into sponsorship problems they're going to have to combine eventually for mutual survival.

My guess is that it's more likely for one of them to go under
ESF to outlast Kespa? Oh what a day. All jokes aside, it's too bad for STX Soul. Winning PL then disbanding because they lost their moneymaker in Innovation. Hopefully they can maybe find a sponsor in the mean time to prevent the good players like Classic, Trap, Mini and hyvaa from being teamless, since not many teams really have the money to pick up additional players. :/

Improbable. It's not because they lost Bogus. I don't know where you got the moneymaker notion from either. There have been a few teams in trouble for some time man. There are teams with money to pick them up.

A lot of players improve after going to foreign teams, not saying all, but alot of them do (Taeja, Jaedong, Alive, Oz, Hero)

STX ( Innovation, Hyvaa and Trap will be the top grabs for teams wanting players. BEAR! You're the UWC! DON'T RETIRE!
What about Dear, isnt he largely considered the #2 player on the team?
Dear probably has the most upside but Trap and Classic are right up there with him. Trap especially has a pretty vicious PvZ.
I think the only thing limiting Dear from being Ace is his stubbornness (hyvaa comments on this quite a bit).
True, I feel like Trap would get picked up by another Kespa team, or maybe an ESF team cause using him as a PvZ sniper would be pretty nice. And good point about classic, he has been improving so quickly. I just think that trap's other matchups are holding him back , so a team would probably view him as a sniper for team leagues more than anything else. Classic i think is being held back by how quickly he has become good. People can't be sure if he is going to stop performing. It has happened with a lot of players, especially in kespa, that they start playing really well for a little bit and then fade away. Cure and Last both come to mind.
Would be sad if Kespa fails to organise proleague for the next season, real indication of where SC2 is heading in Korea (though it's doing MUCH better than BW globally).

Uh, I'd say a lot of those players were just trying to find their bearings. They would get results regardless and that's why you pick up such players. It's all relative man.
Kind of ironic/disturbing that IM and STX despite winning their respective team leagues are in danger of folding due to a lack of support from their primary sponsors.
If its true do you think team managers around the globe knew this before us ? That would explain quite some interviews i heard (and no i'm not talking about acer)

IM is in danger of folding? I know they're having problems with LG, but I haven't heard any rumors of disbanding.
