How do you feel about advancing to RO16 after beating Innovation?
I thought it was a "Group of Death." I was very stressed because my ZvT was down during the practice. Nevertheless, I feel so good about advancing.
You must have prepared especially against Innovation.
I prepared as usuaul. I asked my practice partners to mimic Innovation's play style. Also of help was the WCS replays that were released. 80% of my practice hours were invested in TvZ against Innovation.
Fast transitions in the first set against Gumiho was impressive. [edit: talking about transtions after scouting Gumiho's mech, I think]
Was there any difficult moment in the series against Innovation?
My builds were slightly disturbed because of small mistakes (losing overlords and allowing hellions in the base) in the first two games. Innovation's relentless push is always a threat.
You showcased very fast creep spread. Did you watch Scarlette's games?
Yes. I used to believe that I was best at creep spreading, but Scarlette's creep spread made me think otherwise. I have learned a lot from her games, thanks to WCS replays.
After losing the first map, you chose Derelict Watcher. Was the large open middle space a consideration?
I honestly did not think of that map until yesterday. Dream recommended that map after he lost to Sleep yesterday. I realized there were some good places for spine crawlers as well as routes for run-bys.
In the 3rd set, despite the narrow paths around the map (Yeonsu) you profitted quite well with muta-ling.
Micro matters. I tried to keep a careful eye on mine-targeted zerglings and move them towards marines so that they would take damage. [edit: is it possible to know which unit is targeted by a mine?] I think the outcome of 4M v. muta-ling depends a lot on controls.
Recently Zerg players focus much on muta-ling play even when they go for Hive. Are Infestors not very helpful?
Infestors are helpful, but the change to its attack type made it very difficult to actually inflict damages. Plus, today's ZvT is non-stop slugfest where you need constant stream of units, so unless you are quite ahead it is difficult to find time or resources for Infestors.
You received Nestea Award and advanced to RO16. What do you think of your chance this season, keeping in mind that it's your only chance to the Blizzcon?
I don't know. I will go with the flow. (laugh) It's the last season of the year so I think it is an opportunity to be the champion, beating strong contenders on my way. I don't mind being in a "Group of Death" I even saved some builds for later rounds, so I don't mind facing any race. I would be modest and predict my chance of getting to the final @65% (laugh)
Any last words?
I thank my coach, family, girlfriend, and fans. Thanks to Dream and other Terran players I ran into on ladder. I heard that some in the community thought I was yester-year's news and wouldn't beat Innovation. Hopefully I have changed that perception today. I will do my best for the global finals.
I expected to advance, though I had a rough time against DRG.
How did you prepare?
I played with my team mates as well as on ladder.
DRG said that he specifically prepared for the matches against you.
DRG's style is very difficult to handle. But if I had concentrated as I did in the set 1, I think I could have won.
In the 3rd set against DRG, you made a mistake of building 4 ebays.
I usually do not build ebays as part of my walls and was a bit tilted after the 2nd set. I made many mistakes on upgrades and supply blocks in that last set.
Many in the audience were shocked to see Mule ceremony. [edit: Which game was it?]
I have seen Zergs with similar styles to DRG's. I have always thought Zerg is a very difficult race to beat, and Terran has no advantage against them. It is important to balance Mutalisks against Terran. [edit: No idea what he's talking about]
With today's advancement to RO16, your start in this season looks promising.
I had a good start last season as well, and did well until I reached RO4. I think I fell victim to mannerism after winning the Season 1 global final. But since moving to team Acer, I feel like I'm having a new start. This season's goal is of course championship. I also would like to revenge Maru, Taeja, and Bomber.
You are scheduled to play your ex-team Soul in GSTL next week.
I've heard Soul has moved to a new team house yesterday. They may need some time to settle, so maybe my team mates [edit: other Acer players] might finish them off before I get to play. It will be exciting and motivating to face my old team mates.
Soul's coach seems confident, though.
I might be a target for a snipe, but xxx [edit: player's name] is the first in the line-up and there is only another player who is skilled. If our team can take down that player we will win without much trouble.
Any last words?
I am soon to be participating in Dreamhack Bucharest. This is my first foreign tournament and I will do my best to win the title. I am practicing hard so I hope to show the best plays in the world stage.

Well, I woke up early to catch the games today.
Innovation's interview is a lot more difficult to translate. I may have to watch the games again to make sure what the heck he's talking about before translating.

He can. Watch his games that got him into Code S and his stuff against Sleep. He plays the style pretty well, but not as flawlessly as Innovation does.
And this is why Blizzard should not release recent replays of players. It's just unfair to see every little detail of a build. First Blizzard nerfed hellbats and then they release Innovation's replays for everybody to see. I feel like Blizzard screwed Innovation quite bad.

Yeah I agree with you there. Replays shouldn't be released...
Some builds are really tailored and needed a lot of time to perfect them and other people could just take the replay and know everything. It's almost like stealing.

It's not like Innovation's 3 OC 2 EB build became standard shortly after it appeared. The thing that was picked from replays was not the build. It was that small details of execution that made Innovation what it is in TvZ.

Exactly what you can find in replays, these small details. On the other hand, he will have to Innovate something, possibly giving us more entertainment.

Exactly. For the sake of better games, keep on giving away replays and patch those small things :D
On one hand I'm so happy for DRG - what better way to show that you're back on top than beating Innovation in his would-be unbeatable match-up? But, on the other hand, I'm sad because I wanted Life to be the one to show Zergs all around how it's done =/

He showed it first, Soulkey added his own trickery and DRG perfected it!

Can you really look at those games and conclude that it was the overseer buff that really helped? Cause I could pick out half a dozen things that DRG did better than other code S zergs. The buff may very well have saved him a few overseers, but I don't think other zergs are suddenly going to be pulling out performances like DRG and stomping Terrans now.

overseers keeping up with mutas allowed him to be that much more effective with them without having to additionally micro manage them (frees up apm for the baneling bombs/taking out scvs with banelings, better muta micro, etc
I watched the games pretty closely and don't think it was an unreasonable assessment to make that it helped a lot.

are you serious? starcraft isn't a game about having a unique build, it's about the mechanics you use to pull your builds off... there is absolutely no such thing as "stealing a build"
gotta agree with sharkie on this one. I think replays should not be released. Imagine you're a player, you come up with a unique build, practice it hard etc... then replays gets released ad everyone finds out about the build, it's weakness and counters it. If DRG wanted to watch Innovation, he can easily watch WCS games with him in it. Not as revealing as replays but will give a fair amount of info and will allow Innovation to maintain his builds secretly.

Well, SouL only has Dear and Trap in Code S Ro16 and Dear or Trap are probably starters on their match, and i dare to guess that if Innovation will have a chance to choose (and i bet he will have 4th place in GSL rankings at the least) he will choose either one of 'em either DRG. Also, at one game, Innovation dropped mules before gging. I believe it was Yeonsu one.

Seriously. It's not like there is some hidden secret behind CC first -> Rax -> Factory -> Hellion harras -> MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM winning formula.
It was great to see improved battle engagements from DRG, though.

DRG has always been praising scarlett. Watch his interview with hot bid at IPL5, (its funny and DRG is speaking english you should watch it) he praises scarlett;s play, iirc he calls her the best foreigner and this was when stephano was still around (its possible im thinking of another interview, but im pretty sure this is the one)

Perhaps he meant "My first foreign tournament with my new team" or since leaving kespa or something, or maybe he just forgot about MLG? Who knows.
"This season's goal is of course championship. I also would like to revenge Maru, Taeja, and Bomber." nice, wonder if he'll meet them soon enough.
"I have always thought Zerg is a very difficult race to beat, and Terran has no advantage against them." hehe, this is gonna set off a balance whine if enough people see it XD

these players know each other's builds already. there is no "build secrecy". what "secret builds" are we seeing in GSL? everyone does the same thing. it's bio mine vs ling bling muta
the reason you and i aren't innovation and DRG is because we don't have the physical skill to execute the matchup the way they do, not because their builds are secret and we don't know how to copy them. you could copy a build off of a live report thread.
actually, I haven't played SCII in a long time and never hardcore played it lol so that's probably why I'm no innovation and won't be anytime soon XD I still disagree. Maybe at the start its the same but its the small subtle things that may be missed when a game is casted that are important. Maybe having a single marine at the corner of your base, a bunker in some weird place, building depots in some weird locations to prevent drops, etc... it's these small details that I'm talking about, not the rax -> cc -> factory -> cc etc... build but the smaller stuff that separates the players from each other.
Fast transitions in the first set against Gumiho was impressive.
When HotS was just released, Terran players would mech pretty often. Back then, my results were not good because I just played with my own style. I had experienced several similar scenarios during my game on Akilon Wastes so I knew what kind of play style I needed to do.
Many in the audience were shocked to see Mule ceremony.
I have seen Zergs with similar styles to DRG's. From a long time ago, I thought that it was really difficult to win against Zerg players if they are good players. Personally, I don't think there's anything good for Terran. There has to be some kind of balance that exists between mutalisks and Terrans.
(I'll be honest here. The question and INnoVation's answer makes absolutely no sense. What does one have to do with the other? This Is Game wtf...? -__-;; )
Soul's coach seems confident, though.
I'm sure they're going to prepare with the intention to snipe me, but Trap came out as the starter so I can't really think of anyone else that could do that besides Dear (laughs). I think it's going to be an easy victory as long as I can take out Dear.

I think the question/comment is better translated as: "Many gamers were surprised/impressed at your ability to land mules [on mineral lines] during engagements." There is no mention of the term 'ceremony' or 'manner muling' in the comment. Then the comment can be interpreted as more of a compliment to Innovation's superb macro skills (i.e. muling in between splitting marines/ burrowing mines etc.) Innovation's answer then makes a little more sense, basically balance whine vs Z, in particular mutalisks (rofl).
I just DLed it then went onto do something else, 99% sure that's the replay though. The link in my last post, scroll down and below the graph with the openers if a clickable "ggtracker" text that leads to what I just linked here - in case you want to look at anything else

Life > LucifroN Life > Scarlett Life > VortiX Life > Nerchio Life < Stephano MC < Stephano Seed < Stephano DongRaeGu < Stephano Squirtle > Stephano
But Scarlett is today the only one foreigner hope imo
A match that was basically just for fun and nobody prepared for was really meaningful...?

Wasn't the koreans trolling Stephano for a while, though? I remember it that way, but it was quite late in the night and I might've been tired.
Yeah they were hard mode trolling. They had papers which they wrote: STEPHANO FIGHTING GOGO STEPHANO etc. And at least MC was pretty much trolling whole game against Stephano writing chat etc (which pretty much cost him the game he didn't see his high tier units path mistake and Stephano killed them) :D Damn I want show match like that again, Korea vs World!
Also Scarlett played really nice there. She almost beat Life.
