Pretty sure that the LoL team didnt get much from that. Then dropping this sponsorship could make sense, considering that SC2 is not in the best form in Korea. the money could have been pumped into the LoL then, no? not sure how successful IM's LoL team is now though ~
IM's lol teams were the two bottom teams in OGN's tournament.

while this is a very good idea, you may also write their marketing department a nicely articulated hatemail ^_^

Yup, they always were in the shadow of their SC2 division. A gatekeeper at best in LoL, a top team with many legends in SC2.
Thanks for the news, Chexx

Such a massive hit, feel sorry for IM. Hopefully they can find another title sponsor

Just keep in mind that we found out long ago that LG hasn't actually PAID IM anything since sometime in 2012. So the only immediate effect should be a change in IM's player jerseys.
|
Also since IM was started by nestea, mvp ect, and since they happen to be top 3 richest players of sc2.....

500 million won hmm.. lotsa moola

Pretty sure that the LoL team didnt get much from that. Then dropping this sponsorship could make sense, considering that SC2 is not in the best form in Korea. Ever since esports started in korea teams have been begging LG to sponsor them. Even during the absolute height of Brood War they weren't willing to do so. It was not until star 2 that they started investing by sponsoring a few gsls and even hosting some of their own events (to promote their products but still) and on top of that they decided to sponsor IM, and I'm fairly sure that was 100% based on the sc2 squad as a) I'm not even sure whether IM already had a LoL squad prior the sponsorship b) their lol team has pretty much no results and c) on all the pictures from the signing there are only sc2 players. If I were to sponsor a progaming team with that kind of money and then went into renegotiations or even thought about changing my mind I would have also jumped ship when kespa started to nag me about it. Yeah, but whatever, LG sponsoring few GSLs (including that ridiculous super tournament, that is responsible for like 35% of Polt's winnings) and sponsorship of IM for their sc2 squad made 0 sense to me, considering they never really sponsored BW.
It made a lot of sense to me. Because unlike the majority of Kespa sponsors (Samsung's a big exception of course), LG is a company with real global reach. BW was more of a local deal but SC2 was quite popular internationally from the start and continues to be (probably bigger internationally than in S. Korea even). So for LG it actually makes more sense for them to go for a SC2 team than a BW team, especially since they weren't involved in the BW scene and probably just expected SC2 to take over.

Damn... are they looking for another sponsor?
|
Any sponsor would be glad to pick IM up, i wish they would do more for their loyal foreign fans TT
|
apparently coach kang is a father now by the way, just checked IM's facebook :o wonder if he will keep running the team at a loss when he has a child to support.
|
Sadly, its not surprising to hear. At least they can now put that mess behind them and look for new sponsors.
|
half a mill? for an entire team PER year? holy crap thats nothing.. good that it ended, wasnt too fond of the LG in IM :p
|
Well it was only a matter of time...
|
Oh darn, I really hoped they could sort it out :/ gg
|
Finally they came to their senses wonder what this means for the KeSPA deal, could it be that IM have a new sponsor?
