Ex-Brood War and WoL progamer Kal has joined team Prime. Kal finished his military service with the air force last month, and after spending some time resting at home, he has decided to return as a pro-gamer. DES reports that many teams showed interested, but Kal ended up choosing Prime.
Kal spent the majority of his career on STX Soul before joining Air Force ACE. After Air Force ACE disbanded, he served out the rest of his military service as a regular soldier. DES reports that even though the Korean air force disbanded their pro team, they allowed Kal to keep practicing, and he has kept up some degree of skill.

nice to see that prime is investing in new talent and in starcraft!

mr Kal?
wish him the best

KAL! Great addition to Prime!!

Is this for real? Kal is back? It would be awesome to have another dragon back in the scene, and on Prime no less. Best of luck to him if this is true.
|
Kal?!!?
Im glad to be a prime fan.

KAL! :D Probably the best protoss to never win anything <3

Whaaaaaaaat That's sick, never would have guessed! Does it say what his role is (playing SC2? League? Coach?)

Completely unexpected. I hope he brings strong Protoss play to the team, especially with another year of SPL coming up! Great to see him back.

From google translate it looks like he'll be playing SC2, and apparently practiced a lot while in the air force so his condition isn't too bad.
|
Wow pretty cool news. I hope someone translates the article though cause if somebody told me Kal is back I would have thought it was for BW. Im sure they will have asked him about it so I wanna know what made him decide to join a SC2 team for now.
|
|
Wow this is amazing! It'd sure be great to see one of the best Protosses from BW mount a comeback, and on a team like Prime no less! Will be rooting for him!

But at least my favorite of the dragons IS back

Not sure how well he'll do in sc2, but it's awesome to have more old faces around!

AWESOME. Who needs MKP when you have KAL. Only one protoss more awesome than Kal, and that's Reach.
|
Great, but he also might end up like Pure since he also just returned from the military and it's gonna take a while for him to catch up in SC2.
|
Wow that was unexpected, welcome back dragon!

The Shanktoss is back? This is so epic. esports is #saved!

He was ACE's best player in Hybrid Proleague though that isn't saying much. It's been almost 2 years since though so no one has any clue probably

Below is my translation:
---
It is announced that Koo-hyun 'the acrobat' Kim, a.k.a. Goojila, is joining Team Prime.
Goojila recently met Oi-sik Park, the head coach of Team Prime, and agreed to join the team. After finishing his military service at the end of last month and having a break at home, Goojila moved to Seoul to prepare for a comeback. He will join the team in the first week of November.
Goojlia joined Team Soul in 2006, and won the SKY proleague rookie of the year award. He was one of the finalists of GOMTV MSL Season 4, but was defeated by Jaedong 1-3. He won silver medal in 2010 WCG Grand Final, and has been one of 'the six dragons' who once have dominated the Brood War scene.
After suddenly deciding to start his military service following the end of Shinhan Bank Proleague 2010-2011, Goojila has beaten Rain and Flash as a member of Airforce ACE, deterring KT Rolster to advance to postseason. Although he was one of the best players in Airforce ACE, he couldn't do his military service as a starcraft player any longer after the disbandment of Airforce ACE.
Multiple teams were interested in signing him, but it was Team Prime that Goojila finally decided to join. Having MarineKing who started his new career as a LoL player, and Creator as the only protoss player in the team, Team Prime has been aggressive on signing Goojila, even the head coach tried to meet him personally.
Although there is a concern about the possibility that Goojila couldn't have a chance to practice after the disbandment of Airforce ACE, but it is known that he has been training consistently under the courtesy of ROK Airforce.
|
Was it Kal that beat Flash during Hybrid Proleague a while back?
|
nice kal strange that in op post the original name isnt mentioned, because alot people have no idea wtf goojila is but every sc1 gamer knows kal

Hmm, I actually expected, with many players switching back to BW, that he would have just gone straight into BW play again, but I guess he wants to give SC2 a shot at least. GLGL!

Old pro JOINING sc2? If we follow the logic of "sc2 is dead" advocates, then this must mean sc2 is booming and will be in the next oympics :p
Seriously though, will be interesting to follow this guy. I never followed BW so always nice to get a second chance to get to know one of these bw idols or legends or what you want to call him.

I think wolf would love to go with kal as he calls kangho losira a lot. However I feel like khaldor just wants to go with w/e the pro gamer decides. He even called forgg fin when almost everyone was referring to him as forgg.
Also fuck yeah kal (not gonna go with gow/e)! Nice to see some old bw pros return to play sc2, nice change from all the ones unwilling to take on the new challenge!

Why Prime ? Kal was a big name in BW , he probably could have found a better team . Although with SC2 right now i can't really say which team would be more favourable .

Well, considering STX just dropped SouL and the fact their Protoss players are doing really well atm. They're kind of strapped as is, so I'm not surprised Kal would be joining another team after military service. It just makes sense at the end of the day. I don't think SouL can really afford it until they find another premium sponsor. Doesn't matter how good Kal is at the game.

So is he keeping the ID Kal or going with Gojila? Kal is much better
|
It's funny how even the TL staff still can't accept that he already changed his ID to GooJila years ago (this news was titled GooJila at first but it seems somebody from TL hijacked it and simply renamed it to Kal).
Not that I can't understand it in this particular case. I also think that Kal sounds much better but this treatment is not really consistent with other cases in SC2 where people have usually let the players get away with silly changes in the recent past (Innovation, Swagger, Kangho, Duckdeok just to name a few) and didn't just continue to use the old names like they seem to do here.

Yep, we use the old names because we normally go by their aliases rather than their actual names unlike the Korean community. People of old would recognize the Kal name. Not the new one and that's why they changed it, or else they would be going who the fuck is GooJila.

That was for BW. I doubt we'll ever see another Air Force Ace team again and you know what? I don't really mind because they weren't really competitive to begin with. It was a nice gesture on their behalf though and it had everything to do with BoxeR and his star power. I remember the day they first announced SK Telecom as well. Everyone was so hyped because it was BoxeR's team after all and at that time he was the man.

I don't really mind because they weren't really competitive to begin with. It was a nice gesture on their behalf though and it had everything to do with BoxeR and his star power. But the games like Yellow vs Bisu or Yellow vs Jaedong would never happen
;/ Yeah there was some memorable games and sets. Got to love slow drop lurkers (I used to use that strat all the time anyway). They just really didn't have enough practice time compared to the rest and it showed.

It's nice to see someone RETURNING to the SC2 scene instead of leaving it

I think Kal is a way better ID, but GoojilaPrime does sound kinda boss.

Thank you posting these! My memory of Kal on ACE was that he was their ace player and had great game sense and micro.

But Kal played in the hybrid Proleague, so maybe he's still not a rookie. Unless we continue the tradition of pretending that season never existed

To be fair a lot of people still call Swagger Killer or Sangho, Kangho Losira, Duckdeok Finale, and Innovation Bogus.
Hm... I wish that was true because the original names are the best in all of these cases but personally I have seen the majority of people use the new ones for these now.

I think he's referring to the fact that ForGG used the ID "Never" throughout pretty much his entire pro BW career and people still never called him that.
