Woongjin Stars "posted" (put up for auction) their two players sOs and Soulkey. As a result, Soulkey has joined SK Telecom T1. sOs has joined Jin Air Green Wings, alongside MaruPrime, as previously reported.
With zero players left, Woongjin Stars will be disbanding. Founded as the HanbitSoft Stars in 2000, Stars was one of the oldest progaming teams in StarCraft history. In 2008, Hanbit Stars acquired a new sponsor and became Woongjin Stars, the team's second and final name.

At least sOs vs Soulkey will not provide awkard games anymore. Or will they?
The Proleague arms race is real. I wonder if any of the 3 Ex EG boys will be getting picked up. Maybe CJ entus since they have already worked with the coaching staff.

Scary how imba SKT will be with soo, fantasy, parting, rain, soulkey as a top 5 with a 73% win rate classic as the 6th....

But it is really hard for Prime to be a real champion contender (is that term right?) now. What players can they hire now? They don't have so much money and would need two really good guys to be a real threat. :/

KT could definitely use a good zerg as CH is too funky and Action only suits for photoshop purpose these days. KT.Life would satisfy me (but I have a feeling it's hyvaa lol) Still surprise no one tries to grab Dear/Trap. Wasnt protoss the greatest asset of every team last season?

Classic is toss, and is really really really good, and I don't like him and don't want him to be good, so take that for what it's worth. Fantasy is terran too..
Glad Soulkey didn't join a foreign team or non-proleague team. Same with sOs. As long as they both are playing in proleague I'm okay with whatever team they go to.
The day when SoulKey first defined himself as A-class player with his all-kill
The moment when Free became part of 6 dragons, and performed consistent in the scene.
The moment when Flying became a Proleague starter for Woongjin Stars, working all the way from Gosl days.
The moment when GGPlay reverse sweeped Iris.
And the day that I felt happy when I realized that Hanbit was still supporting StarCraft, even though their support for Korean-StarCraft dropped after few patches.
Another team that fades into history. But another team I will never forget.
1. SKT1 (obviously, lol) 2. Jin Air Green Wings (sOs and Maru are great, and they have support from Savage, Pigbaby, TRUE) 3. KT Rolster (God. Zest, TY, and Crazy aren't bad either) 4. MVP (Swagger, Super, KeeN, DRG, Sniper. So many Code S Ro32 players o.o) 5. Incredible Miracle (Mvp!!!!!!! also, First, Losira, Squirtle, YoDa, YongHwa... they sure have age if anything) 6. CJ Entus (herO, Hydra, EffOrt, and Bbyong are all getting there. What about Sora...?) 7. Samsung Galaxy Khan (unless RorO or Stork become bonjwa, they got nothing.) 8. Prime (lol they suck)
I'm pretty excited. I expect SKT1 to easily win, but imo 2-6 is a toss up.
I would also like to point out that we have gone almost an hour without hearing of a retirement, team change, a player leaving a team, or a team disbanding. What's up with that?
1. SKT 2. Jin Air 3. MVP 4. CJ 5. KT 6. IM 7. Samsung 8. Prime I expect it to be pretty competitive under SKT from 2-6 and then Samsung and Prime will lag behind.
omg I cannot fucking wait for FPL! I just hope they don't release the lineups before the actual games this season
Anyways, as far as how strong the teams are:
1. SKT (obviously) 2. CJ Entus (they CAN beat SKT1! Also Hydra best zerg 2014!!) 3. Jin Air (They are actually very very good now, with Coca, Maru and sOs) 4. KT (They are also good, Flash/Zest/Stats. Missing awesome Zergs though!) 5. IM (Well, as EG-TL learned last time, things are not gonna be good for you, when HerO is to be considered your ace) 6. MVP (meh.) 7. KHAN (HOW IN THE FUCK HAVE YOU NOT STRENGTHEN YOUR SQUAD AFTER YOUR BEST PLAYER LEFT?!) 8. Prime (lol. I just hope Kal gonna be good and transfers before it's too late)
1 SKT 2 CJ 3-6 IM 3-6 KT 3-6 Jin Air 3-6 MVP 7 Galaxy 8 Prime
3-6 are all tied. No way to really separate these teams. But I'd put them in this order. IM is built for Proleague but they will lose a lot of ace matches.
The only team that I have no clue how they will do is KT Rolster considering how many players they have who have no results. However, their team only got better with the pickup of TY, so I think they will put up some serious fight. MVP and IM already have a lot of Code S players, so I think they will do just fine and dandy too.

This is why we need you back in Korea, snm. No one knows their Proleague history like you. :D
How KT missed all the opportunities makes me think they're not really interested in their sc2 team. Well at least Flash is still probably making billions GBP so i'm happy.
Just because SKT1 looks incredibly strong, I will predict they won't even make it to the playoffs. The most notable thing about the players who were once at the top, is people can only talk about what they used to do. Do you remember Nestea? He doesn't do anything conversation worthy anymore, so when people mention Nestea, it's always about the past. I would say that Soulkey, PartinG, Rain, and whoever else they have will not be a threat in proleague at all, if someone asked me my predictions.
My prediction for this proleague is Incredible Miracle. Incredible Miracle's entire team consists of players who have not shown the best results as of late, and I hold those players to be the most eminent threat in all team leagues. Players like Yoda, Squirtle, Liquid.HerO (since he will be playing with them), KangHo and ByuL are the players I will look out to be legend killers this proleague.

Yes, dream teams can be misleading. Nobody last year considered STX a real contender with only Bogus/Innovation the only recognizable name. They went from a 4-10 record at the end of Round 2 to eventual champions with the maturation of players like Dear, Trap, Hyvaa, and a race-changing Classic.

Also, with Maru gone, Prime's line-up looks devastated. Who are they gonna put out as ace? Creator? No offense, but with Creator's form in HotS he'll get absolutely crushed. Parting is really good at PvP so he should do well in PvProleague.
With Prime weakened, maybe this sets the stage for a Prime-SouL partnership that would reunite Kal with his old team as well as bring Dear and Trap back to Proleague.

No that would be KT, except for the part where they actually win things
As a Red Sox and (lesser ) KT fan, I think the comparison is quite apt really.
I hope Prime can come together, though - Byun has been streaming a fair amount lately, and I think Creator still has some fight in him. They just need to get some other players and get growing again.
Rain 's gonna have a super beastly PvZ and Soulkey 's gonna have an almost unbeatable ZvP.PartinG, FanTaSy, soO and the rest are better supports too. No need to predict who's going to win it all.

To my fans, thank you for taking care of me so diligently. Now that I'm at SK, it seems like the Coaches and Players are all good, and they all seem very kind. I think it'll be easy to adjust. I'm going to adjust well, and show you my exploits in Proleague as part of SKT T1, so please keep cheering for me ~^^

That's because Oov shows them there is no hope once the power of Terran is unlocked. Coach Oov is going to wipe the league clean with his strategies and fantasy's hands.

Coach Hyuk will Hyuk Soulkey into a Proleague monster.
SKT, I believe! Though this probably isn't the best time to celebrate the destruction of a Korean team. Still though with Rain + PartinG + Soulkey = victory! FIGHTING

GUHH! Aww, fudge! Bye bye, Woongjin Stars, after only my first season with you and you're already gone (ㅠ.ㅠ)ノ IM it is then, much though I like Soulkey and a lot of SKT T1.
It's great that Jin Air will have both Maru and sOs and yes, I fear for Prime now!

I think it will happen next year. (Dec 2014 Proleague)
The Korean scene still has a few too many teams and has some more condensing to do. Once they get down to 8-10, then a Proleague-GSTL cooperation makes a lot more sense for both businesses. For now though, they both will still see more profit in it going alone, if just to sustain their brands.

I dont think that will happen again. Since pvp is the key matchup right now in sc2 i dont think they will lack in that department.

Damn, this is really sad, now both the finalist teams of last season's Pro League are gone, damn. I'm glad Soulkey found a new home, he deserves to be on a good team, but I just hoped it would be one other then SKT1, they already have such a strong lineup, I don't see how they can't pull together a win this season.

I know where you are coming from, but in fairness I think people have just already accepted the death of Woongjin a long time ago.
"River Flows In You" totally makes me cry QQ. For some reason it also makes me remember the OSL commemoration video. Sorry to see Woongjin go, happy for the players, because how long could they stay in "Zombie" Woongjin?

We already grieved for Woongjin when they announced they weren't joining Proleague again, it was pretty clear the team was disbanding at that point.

SKTs missing Bisu, Best and s2 now some of the people who bossed it in BW but hopefully with Soulkey, Rain, Fantasy and Parting we can be the best again.
How is it that SKT is pouring $$ and KT is just several Code A level koreans with maybe Flash on top (not sure if at this point he is Code A calliber or Code S).
Soo made it deep in SC2 tournaments (and even BW tournaments, placing semi-finals) S2 always did well in BW proleague GoRush won an OSL JulyZerg was a golden mouse winner

Classifying player's ability based on one tournament is silly. Regardless of whether they're Code S/A/B a Flash, Baby, Zest, Stats, CH, Puzzle lineup is still going to be more than competitive with preparation. They came 2nd in the regular season this year, without Baby. Furthermore, KT has always performed way better in team leagues than individual (aside from Flash) and to say they're 'just' code A koreans like there will be a massive gulf between them and Code S regulars makes no sense. With STX and Stars gone KT are either the 2nd or 3rd seed depending on how much you love Jin Air's additions.
Also if you're going to do the caliber thing Flash is clearly S. 3 consecutive Ro16's (Group of Death regular) and the best record in proleague ahead of Innovation/Rain/Soulkey etc. Zest was also 7th overall.

I feel like this kind of a shakeup is fine, so long as Starcraft 2 remains an eSport. The teams are trimming their fat (in the form of players, what with all the retiring and stuff), and in turn, the scene is trimming the fat (in the form of "excessive" teams). So while it's sad the teams are dying (I realize Woongjin Corp. doing poorly financially is kinda unrelated, but let's not forget that the Stars were unable to secure another sponsor). Some German said something to a similar effect in one of these threads, and I just wanted to second that opinion. Anyway, onward to Proleague and Code S!
PS, Jin Air and SK Telecom are gonna be so stacked now... I'd ordinarily watch a match either of the played in anyway, but now I'm going to be having heart palpitations whilst doing so!
RIP WJS indeed, even more sad when you realize they were the one of the oldest starcraft proteam. SKT looking pretty strong for Proleague, can't wait to see them perform.
hmm... too bad it's not a GSTL style league. they could seriously do some major damage in that format. I guess it's more interesting this way, like last when woonjin was lapping the field but lost at the end because of one bad series.

It probably has a lot to do with how there was little emphasis on team leagues throughout the history of sc2, so the people who pretty much only followed sc2 focus more on the individual results and pick favorite players from that rather than a team.

There also seem to be a lot more opportunities for individual players to show off their skills.
Now SK has Rain, Classic, Parting, Soulkey, SoO, Fantasy and guys like Sacsri to back it off. PL is like: let's make this bo 5, maybe someone wants to go to Prime to get more playing time. Seriously the only thing that can stop them are Problems, if Players get mad because they feel like they need to play more.
Pretty big imo. SKT T1 just got a lot stronger in PL. Sad that Stars folded though but it's been known for a while that they might especially after they went from running a team to personally sponsoring Soulkey and sOs.

Well, not always. Players like MMA and DRG became popular from GSTL success, and Gumiho was pretty popular despite never being particularly successful in individual leagues.

Team leagues are so important in developing a good scene. When you have just individual leagues, there isn't enough space to allow talent to grow/show. Also with team leagues you see so many strategies develop you wouldn't have seen if people only practiced for individual leagues.
