It's just BM, back in the day you would have to manually unpause to collect the win, but they patched it. You can't say it's just BM... IT IS ALMOST ALWAYS BY ACCIDENT! If people want to BM they don't just do a quick pause and leave instantly because that does nothing, it doesn't even annoy the other person. They'll flame or make you kill all their buildings, etc. this is correct. a small percentage of times it is BM, but if they're BMing you usually they just pause, wait for you to unpause, then pause again, or they'll rapidly pause and unpause 3 times until their pauses are up. but no one does the single pause + instant quit as BM, if you think that you're paranoid and silly. i do it by accident ALL THE TIME, and this is coming from someone who does BM out of frustration, lol. it's just a misclick.
some people are crazy with the conspiracy theories. like we don't need to prove that people BM on ladder. everyone knows that. but there's no secret behind accidental pauses. they're just accidental pauses.

Sometimes, I miss click. But I know some that BM on purpose
Edit : Though, the BM guys are the one who repause

Avilo just did this vs. Scarlett yesterday in qualifiers.
Ask him.

This is a leftover bm tactic from Broodwar. The person who lost would pause the game and then leave and the person who won would have to unpause the game before getting the win screen. In fact, to be extra BM you would pause the game, the other person would unpase it, then they would pause it again (max 3 times) then finally leave with it paused on the third pause, I remember this being extra douchy.

yeah was, pretty douchy

It is likely a misclick for most (and bm for minority). Personally I always open the menu with f10 but then select the correct button via mouse. And as Blizzard has put 'pause' and 'leave game' buttons next to each others misclicks happen (especially as you usually want to leave as fast as possible )

Because you're actually just playing vs avilo's smurf

I'm salty I lost, so I'm in a hurry to leave the game, and accidentally hit the pause button. Then I feel like an idiot, so I hurry to the post game screen so I can block my opponent before I get a message like "u mad bro". This has happened a dozen times or so in my overall SC2 ladder experience. There's nothing more to it.

Seriously? That's just sad.

There's different ways to BM with te pause button.

I know this post is old, But alot alot of people got it wrong... .. and i just found it on a google search
There was a pause button Glitch where games would continue after both oppents left.
IE (If you where losing, and you A-Moved your army and workers to the enemy base, Hit pause and surrender in rapid sucession... Your enemy would be glitched / frozen / Dropped from the game while your units still moved on the attack... Causeing you to gain a 100% Win-rate... you 'couldnt lose')
Also to troll during attacks as quoted by On April 18 2015 05:16 Thieving Magpie wrote: I sometimes do it right before my banelings get to the marines to disrupt their rhyme to kite
Was very sucessful.
Also its 100% bm.... I do it too..... Pause yell pause again yell some more... pause and leave. or jsut pause and leave causing them to half to take extra effort before the win screen. or build buildings alllll overrrr the map and pause till i couldnt and make him hunt me down. (Percenteage of miss click vs troll/BM is like 2% vs 98%)
Deff BM

I do it on accident sometime pause and surrender are right next to each other. so I pause than leave some times when i misclick.

It is a quick way to tell the opponent that you do not respect his win when you do not have the motivation to write a proper insult.

Which is why Avilo does it after every game since he has lost to a imba Zerg, imba toss or a map hacking terran.

I can respect that. I honestly can not remember the last time I felt my opponent deserved to win. Probably back in WOL.
I also love when my opponents BM me. GG is boring but when they tell me to kill myself when I beat them in a macro game in TvP using mech it puts a smile on my face.
This game needs more emotion and less manner.

When SC2 was launched there was a bug - when a person pauses a game and leaves, the opponent didn't receive msg that the other guy has left the game. So if you were a well-mannered person you can end up waiting lots of time for the other guy to get back and continue playing.
Nowadays people just continue doing it instead of throwing cancer words over the chat.
