You might want to add that there is going to only be 3 rounds of proleague this year from 4 of last year

Wait the real prize is that it starts next week?
Glad that Proleague is finally here after the wait. Curious to see what LotV brings.

Freecs trades for Life then not put him in the line up, did I miss something?

Since when did SPL depend on Blizzard for maps? Last year's map pools were terribly uninteresting too

dang this year's announcement is just disappointing relative to last year but it would be worse if afreeca didnt step up

I loved maps like Neo Planet S and King Sejong Station that eventually became staples in other map pools.

While I can't read it I know Korean LoL does (did?) a thing where they had a tournament for the B-teamers/subs of the various LCK teams, so I'm hoping its something within that umbrella. It certainly sounds like it could be from the very limited information one could gather without knowing Korean, aka just the "Challenger tournament" part

SC2 has been in sore need of fresh blood lately, so a similar challenger tournament could hopefully be good.

Why 3 rounds only??? why????
I didn't expect Proleague to make a cut on content
But I guess we should be happy that we still have Proleague?
|
I THINK (I used Google Translate and me guessing for this) that they are using the points system from the last 2 years for seeding into a special tournament at the end of the year before the main Playoffs where the teams that didn't win a round playoffs will play each other for the final spot in the main playoffs. Each team that won a round playoffs would be seeded into the main playoffs based on their points I assume. Could be completely wrong though XD.

Well there's 2 parts:
1. Cutting KR down to 2 seasons 2. Region locking
I think everybody's in agreement that the first part is bad for everyone involved, but as for the second part, it is completely dependent on the organisers.
WCS region lock by itself isn't that big a deal - look at last year, when everyone was kind of convinced that wcs 2015 was a decent system. It's the fact that it comes at the cost of all the tournaments we've come to love that's the issue.
Basically, this is completely on blizzard / ESL / Dreamhack for having zero communication. If we end up getting a bunch of Global Events, that would be fine by me. I'd still prefer the 2013-2015 systems, but hey - it's a compromise I can accept. Whether that will actually happen though is a different question

It's really inorganic and awkward but the difference in skill between foreigners and Koreans kind of makes a BW-style separation of scenes necessary for foreigners to actually win stuff. I don't like it in theory but I think the foreign scene needs champions to survive in reality.

Champion. No Flash at 8 points to ruin my FPL like the last few times, I might do well!

Most of the WCS changes are fine, except the 4 seasons is absolutely going to decay the scene if there are no Korean Cups that show up in between.
They needed to have start planning having 6 seasons in Korea, and then they can do whatever half-baked stuff they want.
This is probably going to happen, but what I want more than anything for SC2, is them digging deep and finding a sponsor to do something in between GSL/SSL 1 and , like a GSL/SSL that isnt part of the Blizzcon/WCS system.

Yeah, they had two rookie players. Atleast they participated in the GSL qualifiers with a CJ Entus id. One of them was called NightMare and played Protoss but I can't remember the other one. No idea what happened to them.
Samsung only with seven players. What about Guilty?
|
Ugh, while I am glad Proleague is starting very soon. Still bummed that it's only 3 rounds, still bo5, and the obvious 7 teams. I was hoping KESPA can pull a miraculous new 8th team out of their ass, and maybe it could have happened if Sbenu decided to stick with their SC2 team.

Doubt it could have happened at this point. If Sbenu stuck around there wouldn't have been a team for Afreeca to jump in on. Would take some time to organize and field a new competitive team I imagine.
|
Pretty much what I expected.
Although I'm surprised that they didn't go back to the 2014 schedule and move the games to sat/sun
|
bo5 would've been great, if it was bo5 of bo3's..

Thank you so much Lichter! Cant wait for PL to get on its way

It is a weird decision to only allow eight players per team. I feel sorry for the players who were cut. Also Patience was announced to play for Team MVP, but this rule seems to be the reason he isn't in the roster.
|
see. mk still remains with the team he will come back round 2
|
Agh, I hate that they're keeping best of fives. There are going to be so many short, short days and it's going to be so frustrating.
Couple that with starting an hour earlier.. Man, I've been waking up at 3 a.m. for Korean Starcraft for like four years now. Stop making it even more difficult on me. D:
|
Only 3 Rounds. Only Bo5
Hmm meeeh, hoped for much better news.
But at least ProLeague is back!

Quality is not quantity, last years had plenty of pointless games (the usual "will prime win a map this week?") and some disapinting ones too.
If SPL manages to to make all games good and fun to watch, maybe it'll get more hype and viewers in then end.
Anyways, 2016 is a damn crucial year for sc2, I'm crossing my fingers.
|
So did any coach or team captain say something interesting?
Actually forget that I asked. Good games will be shown and the best possible effort will be put in I guess.

Well put. While an even number of teams is ideal for the format, having consistently high caliber games is far more important. Prime (and Startale R2) last season really lowered the bar and cheapened the experience of Proleague. While it would still be great if a quality 8th team could be added after R1, having seven competitive teams is better than before (although I have my doubts about Afreeca in light of Life, and MVP being able to stay close).

The same as the last two seasons. Best of 7 All Kill with the grand final being best of 7 Proleague style

Did someone really expect a Bo7 format? It's not like the SC2 scene is that healthy to support such a format. I mean, I'm really not salty inany way, but the quality of the games would decrease drastically if they turned to a Bo7 format.

hi all im just wondering what the rules are on this tournament or how i can find them, on the wiki page we have all the info about the results and machups but no info on how they are made (usually turnaments on the wikki have a format section explaining how the tournament will go). like i see during round robin each team plays another each week like in a football championship, but how are the maps and how players chosen for each match.
also in the playoffs i see players winning and playing again, so like here its knock out system untill all players from the other team are eliminated.
where can i find the info on all this?
maybe a noob question but i really enjoy the matches of this league and would like to fully understand the format to better understand the plays.

The teams are given the map order in advance and they decide who plays on what map. They don't know what the other team has decided. After both teams have sent in their line ups the match ups are made public.

Yes, the playoffs have a different format. Winner stays on, first team to win 4 games wins.
