With half the Round of 8 decided, the remaining participants of the group stage gathered to complete the quarterfinals of IEM Shanghai.
TIME put in a solid performance against soO, but, though he won game two, he couldn’t overcome soO's ultralisks in the deciding game.
herO was everywhere in game one with adepts and dark templar, but Solar ultimately took the series with baneling drops and staunch defensive play.
soO was fast out of the blocks, but stumbled in game two with another early pool. Game three was a more standard roach vs roach, with soO winding up on top.
With TIME eliminated from the event, herO and Solar split the first two games. In the end, herO’s defense against baneling and zergling drops set up a lethal immortal/archon attack that sent him to the Round of 8.
Last up was Group D. INnoVation kicked things off with a quick 2-0 over Trust, highlighted by a strong two base push that gave him a lead he never relinquished.
ByuN's aggression got him nowhere against Maru as the Jin Air Terran's solid defense, banshee play and tank pushes sent him on to the winner’s match
Maru jumped out to a lead against INnoVation with a reaper opening, but crumbled over the course of the next two games, particularly on Ascension to Aiur where the match slowly slipped from his grasp.
Having knocked off Trust, ByuN and Maru faced off for the final spot in the quarterfinals. Tied going into the third game, Maru's siege on ByuN's natural fell flat. ByuN's counter drop with bio/tank was the nail in the coffin that saw ByuN advance.

These recaps seem to get progressively laconic as time goes by. Artosis called INnoVation vs Maru some of the best games of 2017, but the single sentence doesn't really do them justice.

The glory days of 2013 where every event had an hype-laden preview and an exhaustive recap have come and gone.

I agree, altough it's cool to have those recaps, it seems the only infos you can glean are 1. who was aggressive and 2. (sometimes) the build. It would be cool to know which game was worth watching, as well as whether players were looking strong or not.

in the live report thread JuicyJames always asks for recommended games and then i suspect he puts those recommended games in his "This Week In Starcraft" reports.
Maru v. Inno series in Group D was worth watching. IMO, The only somewhat dull games so far were the ZvZ 5 million roach battle games. The gameplay so far in this Shanghai every has been very, very good.
prolly, no one is willing to volunteer to do recaps. i'm just happy TL keeps Liquipedia going so well so that i can get a grasp on the over all scene.

I'd love do some recaps if I knew how to write correctly and if I had the time to watch all the games (yeah basically this is a post for nothing)

Yeah basically this is a post for nothing.

Recaps are short because IEM is on at an awful time for all of us writers and I wanted them short, since I won't order whoever does the recap to closely go through hours of VODs. That and they're not supposed to be game recaps, but news posts and can, as such, be short if necessary.
