RESULTS
The results for the Ridiculously Entertaining Kerfuffle are out. See the winners!
While the title of this thread implies this is a tournament, it's not really. It's more of a competition for pro players to engage in so I'm putting this in SC2 General.
Dear Pro Players attending WCS Valencia
Are you good at Starcraft 2? Can you give exciting interviews? Well good news then, I'm running a contest where you can win big cash money for doing ceremonies/trash talking on the main stage of WCS Valencia 2018.
$1500 USD Base Prize 1st Place: 50% - $750 USD base 2nd Place: 25% - $375 USD base 3rd Place: 25% - $375 USD base
So what exactly do you have to do?
At 2018 WCS Valencia, on the main stage and on stream, do your best ceremony, celebration or give your best trash talk(that does not break restrictions listed below).
Submit the clip of your moment to me(feardragon) via twitter/e-mail/discord/whatever within 1 week of the event.
I and a few other people I select will decide on the top 3 most entertaining/memorable trash-talk/ceremonies and they will earn a cash prize.
EXTRA DETAILS ON RESTRICTIONS:
Only matches played on the main stage of WCS Valencia 2018 will be eligible.
Within reason, your ceremony/trash talk MUST be on the main stream camera.
You must abide by the WCS Player Handbook's Code of Conduct. Don't do anything that will actually get you in trouble with Blizzard or DreamHack.
Nothing obviously racist, sexist, or seriously and genuinely offensive(like referencing a family member's death or something stupid like that.
Within reason, do not physically involve your opponent or someone else unless they've agreed to it. I'm not going to disqualify you for doing a fake-out handshake with your opponent but before you decide to grab the host's hands during your interview and start dancing with them, make sure you're not crossing personal space boundaries.
Don't be an idiot. This is about entertainment for the audience, not making your opponent feel like shit or disrespecting the tournament.
This entire competition is entirely arbitrary. If you disagree with how I came up with my decision, deal with it cause it's my money. Also, if I personally think you crossed a line you'll be disqualified without hesitation.
Some examples of fair game are:
Waving your country flag on stage
Busting out a rhyming diss in the interview about how your opponent has a 0% chance of winning
Raising your hands up and riling up the crowd more after your well earned victory.
While points are definitely given for ingenuity, the goal is just more entertainment. You don't have to fake excitement or come up with some next level meme, we just want to see you having a good time and enjoying your victories or having some fun with the interviews.
Dear everyone else who likes this idea
If you are interested in supporting this idea, the best things you can do are to help spread the word so players know about this competition and consider contributing to the prize pool. Coupon code="RektValencia https://matcherino.com/tournaments/11321/description

Any particular reason? Matcherino allows you to add funds via PayPal.
yeah, i agree that donating to you rather than matcherino should be "do able".
i mean kids probably can get their parents to allow them to donate to you, but a "matcherino" (place of betting) may sound like something many parents wouldn't allow, no?

thank you for the sc2 funny <3
Honestly I'm using matcherino as a middle man so that I don't have to hold onto a bunch of donations and track stuff. The site isn't for betting. I don't take donations in general so I'd also prefer not to have to set that up.
If it's that much of a problem, you can always give the money to a friend and have them donate it. Again, you're using paypal either way.

Am I correct in saying I need to link an account to matcherino in order to donate? If so, that is one reason (I simply don't like the idea of doing that).
I appreciate this might cause an administrative problem of sorts for you.
Will consideration be given to any in-game shennaniginery? (real word)
Stuff like Manner Muling, Manner Nexuses, Dancing units etc..?
Also, will simply being capable of opening a bottle of champagne like a normal human without looking like you don't understand the concept of corks be considered the best ceremony of all time?
I am a little concerned with the prize pool however. It seems like a lot of money to give for this sort of challenge. It's of course feardragons money, but it just seems like a price pool that pushes people to participate that doesn't do it for the fun of it but rather for the money.

I mean... of course they are doing it for the money, since they would not do it normally. You think these guys would show up at WCS at all if there was no prize pool? :D But inherently you have to have some fun with it and be funny or else you will not win.
I don't want to be a party pooper but I don't actually like that idea. Trashtalk is funny if it comes natural and not when it gets forced. Whatever we'll see how it goes.
Also for people that don't like the event, that's fine. You can put up $1,500 of your own money to incentivize players to be as uninteresting as possible.

That's not what the comments are about. Not at all. It's about incentivizing players to act unnatural. Personally I was most worried about the amount of money, as I felt it is getting in a grey area where some players might feel that they need to 'go for it'. However I realise that I overestimated how much money it actually is, and is starting to doubt that anyone would be in a place where this amount of money has a significant impact on something.

Still deciding if I want to even do this again at Montreal. If I do it's because I believe in NA players taking up the challenge rather than EU players.

Bit disappointed with the entries, I wish there were more. But the entries that there were I enjoyed. Hopefully (if this happens again) it'll be more interesting!
