I dont think this will actually allow maru to skip military service i think it would have to be the real olympics for that
KeSPA still exists, they just don't do SC2 anymore

He's just building Battlecruisers off of 2 bases, doing nuke drops and going mass Command Centres Pretty funny Maru.

The interview Maru gave afterwards while no doubt strictly speaking completely true was the most insincere sounding thing I've read all week.

Maru is awesome, this player is really awesome

In other news, the sun came up today

do you think he could've won this tournament with one hand?
|
yeah the top 3 of asia games were a no brainer imo.
|
This might be the easiest win of a big tournament anyone has ever gotten. I can't remember any other event where one guy was that much better than the others.

Maru's children land. If Has instead of Nice, hcan he win a set?

Does this means Maru could possibly get an exemption from Military Service since he won the Asian Game gold medal like the other winners in other sports?

What is this rule? Gold medalists can skip military service?

South Korea won 4 years ago and all players were exempted from Military. Son didn't attend (Leverkusen said no to him). This rule exists since WC 2002.

It is a very hot topic right now in Soccer world because Son Heung Min of S. Korea team career relied on winning the Asian Game gold medal for male soccer.

This is because there is a law for military exemption if athletes can win medals in a competition where all type of sports can compete in (so no World Cup or specific sport championship). I think it's written in the law/rule that it has to be bronze medal up for Olympic or gold medals for Asian Games.
Since this Asian Games has Starcraft 2 as one of the sport competed, I was wondering whether Maru would be eligible to apply for exemption or not. But it's in the experimental sport category so it might not count.

Yeah since it's only a demonstration sport it doesn't count towards that.

When page 2 reads exactly the same as page 1, literally about 4 posts into it a well respected community member explained it was a demonstration event so no exemptions from military. Kinda crappy that eSports not given same treatment as other sports though,

Very surprised by the result.

Even though Maru's victory was always pretty obvious, looking at the lineup, it's still great to have a Gold medal go to SK (especially after the disappointing LoL finals...)

This was expanded to those who win gold medals at the Asian Games.
Maru doesn't get exemption because it was a demonstration sport, not a medal sport. Maru could lawyer up and press the issue, although the general principle is bringing pride to Korea or raising Korea's international profile, and maybe StarCraft 2 doesn't do it that much. The hard part is not pressing so hard that he looks like he's trying to dodge service but argue that he's legitimately better for Korea as a pro-gamer than a soldier (and this is more like convincing your mom, not a bunch of people on a forum dedicated to the game).
