Lives
- Each game will have a different number of lives available. That is up to me to decide.
Other
- If the sentence guessed is incorrect, the game ends there.
- Everyone's points will carry over to the next game. Be smart about your guesses!

- When a new season begins, everyone will start over from 0.
- GL HF!

The first four words are obvious now--not sure about the rest currently. Hmm... Is there any point in going for words for the finals? Or are we all aiming for the sentence?

With the 'I's and 'E's the third word could only be a handful of words. Among them 'Securities' stood out so I searched it in Liquipedia and got the Hana Daetoo Securities MSL. After that I just had to think about what would fit the rest of those words. I almost put "defeats" instead of "versus" before I realized it was a letter off and had a second 'e'.

1. Congratulations to our Season 2 champion, ZigguratOfUr! Back-to-back championships for this bonjwa in the making!
2. I have decided to remove the "monetary prize via paypal" for the time being. It has come to my attention that with technology being so advanced in this day and age, it is far too easy to figure the answers out using the internet. Until I can figure out a way to cancel this out, I won't be doing monetary prizes.
The spirit of playing hangman is to figure answers out using only your brain by narrowing down the available letters. If I'm going to give a monetary prize out then there needs to be a way to verify in some way that the winner won it fair and square.

I don't think you can do anything about this unless you would do it live in person :D Hence, the no more monetary prize via paypal

I originally thought the first word was VULTURES, because, you know, spider mines (and I can't spell). Obviously that doesn't really work with "ACTIVATE" but I thought maybe it was "AUTOMATE" instead, and that's a little awkward so I went with the letter guess. It turns out there are quite a few words that are spelled A _ _ _ _ A _ E.

I didn't find it particularly obvious mostly because the word I thought of first was AIRPLANE.

either you still give him the points (maybe less? :>) or we simply do the next sentence and nobody gets points
|
imho change rule so you can guess a letter, and after seeker acts upon it, can guess the sentence. but just prevent people from playing completely solo (there's bots for that), and abusing the rules by guessing a letter/word and then immediately the sentence (getting > 10 points for guessing the sentence).
But it's seeker's game, so his rules. I broke them (without intending to). so whatever he wants.

If you guess a letter and I act upon it, that does not mean that you can guess the word or sentence right afterwards.

From Liquipedia:
The Dark Templar is an especially effective unit against the Zerg when paired with the Corsair, which can quickly kill off detection Overlords. In competitive play, it is common for the Protoss player to opt for a Corsair/Dark Templar build or Bisu Build. In these builds, Dark Templar are most effective after Corsairs clear out any Overlords, thus allowing the DT to maneuver around undetected. The map control provided by this strategy is very effective and forced Zerg players to come up with counter builds. DT's often enter the Zerg base through a Shuttle drop to further evade attack at the Zerg chokepoint or Zerg entryway. Although mainly used to harass, four Dark Templar can quickly take down any tech building, such as the Hydralisk Den or Spire.

That's a DT drop then. Not a Corsair and DT drop.

That's a DT drop then. Not a Corsair and DT drop. You think I know the intricacies of the Bisu build? I've never played legit BW 1v1. The Liquipedia page for the Bisu build even says that
The intial two Dark Templars are used to deny a bust or a contain of Zerg. Ideally, the Zerg has no option for mobile detection and has to give up the map control for the next minutes. Consequently, Protoss should try to harass the Zerg expansions if possible, but not sacrifice his Dark Templars. Speed Zealot attacks serve the same purpose of threatening Zerg bases and exploit weaknesses in static defense. Shuttles can be used to drop few units into bases of Zerg, especially if Spore- or Sunken Colonies are missing.
Obviously my answer was wrong, but there was some reasoning behind it.

Technically I got more points than The_Templar did within the championship match though . He got 10 for the sentence whereas I got 2 words plus a letter for 11 points.

Because if points don't matter within championship matches there isn't any reason to go for words?
|
Well one solves for words to get 5 points usually, but points are useless in the championship game apparently. So solving for words only makes it easier for others because you cannot directly post again after you solved a word. Doesn't seem to be worth it imo. But sure now the rules are 100% clear :D

If I'm confident enough about a word to guess it, it probably isn't that word that's causing me problems. It would be the words I don't have a guess for.

Seems like a bad strategy :D On March 09 2018 05:09 ZigguratOfUr wrote:On March 09 2018 05:07 Seeker wrote:On March 09 2018 05:05 The_Red_Viper wrote: So did ziggurator win because he has more points or templar because he got the sentence? He got 10 for the sentence whereas I got 2 words plus a letter for 11 points. Yeah that's why i asked. Why would that be a bad strategy? Because if points don't matter within championship matches there isn't any reason to go for words? But what if you can't get the sentence because you're not sure if the word is right or not? If I'm confident enough about a word to guess it, it probably isn't that word that's causing me problems. It would be the words I don't have a guess for. Hence, take advantage of your revives Or YOLO the sentences :p

Yeah i am with ziggurator here, the current intended rules make it so guessing words isn't worth it for the championship game. That's not a problem necessarily, but for me (and him i guess) it looked like you win with most points even for the championship game :D It's all cleared up now though, so that's good.

Except the person guessing presumably already has a good idea as to what the word is, and so you're helping others much more than yourself by actually guessing the word.

I think current rules are fine though, it just wasn't completely clear. The reason I didn't add points for the championship game is because some people are way too ahead of others that even winning the championship game wouldn't make a difference.
For example: In Season 1, rotta had 53 points after the season ended. Which meant that no matter how hard people tried, they probably wouldn't be able to win over rotta. Even if I did raise the Championship Game to give out more points, that doesn't automatically mean that rotta won't take some of those points as well.
That's why I went with this format for the championship game. It gives others an opportunity to try to win it despite being down in points. But the people with high points still needed some kind of advantage for participating in the regular season, which is why I made the revives system.

That's not what we meant by points.
I'd assumed that everyone who qualified started at 0 again within the championship game, and that whoever got the most points by the end of the championship game would win.
But it really doesn't matter as long as it's clear that the winner is just the person that gets the sentence rather than the person with the most points in the championship game.

There are downsides to it though. For example since I was at 11 points, The_Templar would be incentivized not to guess the sentence even though he knew it and get more points through words before being able to end the game by catching the golden snitch guessing the sentence.

How is that a downside? Well it leads to weird situations too easily at current values probably. In general i don't think we would want people to not guess the whole sentence because someone got 11 points before (aka 2 words plus one letter). So maybe the whole sentence should be worth a little more for the championship game if you wanna go with a point based system in the deciding hangman to begin with :D

Ohhhh~ I get it now. Now that I understand what you've been talking about, I'll take some time to think about whether or not that's what I want to do. Because now I see that giving out points would give people incentive to guess the word rather than just try to get the whole sentence. So maybe the whole sentence should be worth a little more for the championship game if you wanna go with a point based system in the deciding hangman to begin with :D If I go with a point system then yes, the championship game would give more points for everything.
I was thinking along the lines of 3 points for letters, 10 points for words and 30 points for the whole sentence.

Championship Game Rules:
- Only the Top 10 are allowed to participate: TBD
- You may use 5 points from your remaining total to PM Seeker to guess a letter in secret
- You may use 10 points from your remaining total to PM Seeker to guess a word in secret
- You CANNOT PM multiple letters and words in a single PM. Each PM must contain either a letter guess or a word guess. The next PM cannot be sent until Seeker responds first
- If the letter/word guessed is correct, it remains a secret. If the letter/word guessed is incorrect, then it gets revealed to the public
- An incorrect letter guess will result in the loss of 1 life
- An incorrect word guess means the person who guessed is out
- An incorrect sentence guess means the game ends there
Revives
- For every 10 points you accumulated during the regular season, you get a revive.
- The cost to come back after an incorrectly guessed word is 1 revive.
- If an incorrect sentence guess occurs then the game has ended. However, 2 revives can be used to bring the sentence back into play.
- Revives cannot be shared and revives cannot be combined between players

Interesting new rules. Points during the season now mean something
|
|
I actually thought about guesses in secret but figured that would be too much work for you, apparently not Interesting changes though!

This is a great change actually. Like Acro said, points matter now.

Do the rules involving consecutive guesses apply to secret guesses? That seems hard to track. Because otherwise I'm pretty sure the best strategy is just to PM all the letters you can think of to Seeker immediately (the highest ranked players should have 5 or 6 secret letters available at least ), and as soon you get a reply make an easy sentence guess. Seems lame that people would just have easy wins due to extra information.
Not really a fan of these new rules--paying points for consecutive guesses would be simpler especially logistically.

Starting sentences with 'and' isn't actually incorrect despite people saying that it is quite often. And it's not like most of the other 'sentences' were proper sentences either.

I have to say I'm not too sure about this championship format. The optimal strategy for anyone who has sufficient points is to only make secret letter guesses (though the letters I did guess which were 's' and 'r' turned out to be just about the worst letters I could guess). And if everyone does that it would become rather boring.
|

Maybe instead of doing it completely secret the person can make a "special guess" in the thread where one guesses a letter and seeker will give that person the exact positions while the others only get how many there are in the sentence. Maybe it wouldn't be allowed to ask for the same letter again. (or if it is people at least waste it) Just a thought.
