Hi everyone, We'd like to post an explanation of the stream problems we had for the Ro8 games today. Many of our staff are located all over the world, in this case our observer (Carnac) was from Germany and there was a routing problem between his ISP and our streaming servers that caused severe delays and buffering on the stream. After the 2nd game of the 1st set, we made the decision to change observers since it didn't look like it was going to get any better.
While we were setting up Kennigit with the observer tools, we found a way using zatic's server hosted in Germany to re-route Carnac's connection over a different carrier, allowing us to bypass the failing link on the Internet. This allowed us to get the stream back online after a significant delay for which we apologize.
The problem with the routing was not just limited to TL staff - many of you were unable to connect to our stream or had terrible lag / buffering issues due to this failing routing that seemed to mainly affect Europe. Unfortunately the problems were occurring way out of the control of us and our ISP so we could not do anything to fix this.
Additionally some of the Brood War audio during the last set was missing. We believe this to be a mixer problem with Carnac's sound card - this is also why the commentary was dropping in earlier casts. This will hopefully be fixed for the Ro4 onwards.
I think the games more than made up for the technical errors though, if you missed them the VODs will be posted soon. Game 1 of White-Ra vs JF unfortunately was corrupted as a result of the stream issues and will not be included at this time.

I had some intense lag before the downtime, but it was perfect after the downtime. Routing to SA seemed to have been fixed somehow.

I'm in central/northern germany and it worked =O.
No worries because of the problems, thanks for the effort everyone

I couldnt watch the series because of this, i hope at least the torrent comes asap.

A rare triumph for Australian internet, as the stream was not THAT bad before (just the lag like everyone else) and after it was perfect. n_n

Always amazed at how many solutions r1ch can pull out of his "hat"

Thanks for all the hard work, TL. I had some trouble with the stream myself. After reading some of the messages on IRC, I found that my own internet was to blame. With a magical VPN connection through another ISP, all the buffering to get still pictures was over.
Can you possibly send R1CH to fix Europe before RO4? I'm sure it would only require an inkling of his immense powers.

Had no problems viewing whatsoever. Thanks for all the hard work. The commentary was amazing today lol, probably cuz they were so tired.

You are forgiven

it was worth the wait.
both JF vs White-Ra and Idra vs Nony matches made up for the problems.

It was a pretty good time for technical issues since I had just started playing in a clan war :D
|
While I value explanations for why these technical issues arise, at the same time I always giggle when r1ch apologises, since the amount of effort and technical skill that goes into these casts is unbelievable, and I'm getting all this great Starcraft for free?
R1ch is a magician, albeit a modest one.

TL is still miles ahead of the clowns at MBC =D

Thanks for the explanation R1CH, u own.

Thanks so much for the TSL. Such great Starcraft, and we appreciate what you guys are doing for this tournament.

Like I've said before.. Gods need not apologize! Thanks for everything you do.

I was happy that the stream worked in VLC this time.

r1ch could drown several puppies and my opinion of him wouldn't change in the slightest. Thank you!!

I could only watch game 1 of the JF-Ra series and afterwards the stream was unavailable for me. This was very frustrating as I was looking forward to a Sunday evening with TSL, which did not work out that well. Fortunately I could watch Vinter's re-stream for the Nony-Idra series.
I hope to god that I will be able to connect to the stream the next week.

good luck zatic's server's connection wasnt afflicted too much by the eu<->us fail that apparently hit many people.
|
It's no TSL without some lack of technology!

thank you r1ch again fo fixing problems, which many other couldnt fix. you rescued the stream yesterday
Altough you should consider having Kennigit already set up for the next casts, so there wont be any bigger delayments

While we were sitting here last night, waiting for the stream to come back up, we were thinking "man, those guys sure must be busy now". Thanks for all the hard work, also for keeping us posted all the time. That was excellent crisis management!

Thanks for fixing the problems R1CH and whoever was involved in this My stream didn't even lag once, so I'm really pleased with the broadcast, gogo and continue with the quality streams for the Ro4!
|
That's seriously amazing stuff R1CH... thanks for all the hard work
|
Considering the awesome job all the guys are putting in, the network problems are very much understandable. Though I couldn't stay up that late last evening to watch the games live, I did it this afternoon spoiler free. What can I say, AMAZING series. Keep up the good work, hopefully there will be no more lag/network problems in the next games and gl to all players (winners or otherwise) !!

dam R1CH is a bonjwa like nony

I can only imagine the effort it takes to set up a pretty much global event like this and still have it run this smoothely, thanks a ton for all the work and effort you guys put in.
