We're happy to announce our premium package for the TeamLiquid StarLeague, called TSL+. Don't worry, we're not taking anything away from the traditional TSL experience. As usual, we will provide a free 720p stream. However, there will always be fans that want a bit more, or want to help support the tournament beyond tuning into the broadcasts. For these fans, we're happy to offer a $10 TSL+ ticket and more TSL features. Thank you all for your support!
FEATURES
The TSL4 will be streamed free in 720p. That's pretty good quality. But for those wanting the best possible quality, a TSL+ ticket will give you access to our 1080p stream. That's a full 360p higher than 720p, or a 50% increase in "p" quality. Trust us we used the power of addition and the windows calculator program.
The TSL+ ticket also gets you a free TSL4 poster. You can view the poster here. Look at those shiny colors and that nice looking art. Hang this on your wall next to all the other posters you have, and we guarantee it will make friends with them. Not even in the superficial poster Facebook friends way, but in the real poster friends way where they can hang out for hours in silence or ask each other important questions about each others' lives. Those kind of poster friends are the best. You can claim this poster when TSL4 starts on July 28.
Have you ever accidentally opened up a stream chat and thought, "Wow I really regretted that." Of course you have, we all have. That is why general chat is disabled for TSL4. However, if you want to chat with other people who bought a TSL+ ticket, we can make that happen. Don't worry, we will not hesitate to ban someone who is acting out even if they paid for TSL+. But we don't anticipate that happening often because generally, people that buy TSL+ tickets don't buy it to troll the chat, they buy it to enjoy TSL more.
If you buy a TSL+ ticket, you won't see any of the generic Twitch system advertisements. You'll still see our sponsor directed commercials. But when we play the generic ads, you won't see those. While everyone else is watching an ad you will be just waiting, watching nothing. Maybe we will put up a cool looking screen and some music while you sit there and relax, happily oblivious.
We've also decided to give everyone who buys TSL+ a 5% discount on TL store purchases for the duration of TSL4. Let me give you an example, if you were to buy two hoodies and five shirts, total cost $200, it will now be $190. What are you going to do with that $10? Let me humbly suggest buying another TSL+ ticket. No, the 5% doesn't stack. We know you were thinking that. The 5% applies to all TL store items, not just TSL4 products like the poster or the soon-to-be-released TSL4 shirt. You can apply the discount when the TSL4 starts on July 28. Note: we do not guarantee all items to be in stock for the duration of the TSL4.
We'll be raffling off lots of cool stuff for TSL+ subscribers, like TSL4 shirts, signed goodies, and Razer gear. But the big prize is a trip to a major StarCraft event in your area, whether it's MLG, IPL, or DreamHack. We'll pay hotel and flight for you and a friend to go and experience ESPORTS at one of these events. If we see you there, we'll treat you like royalty. And by that I mean we'll say hello and give you a hug. You better take pictures and write a blog afterward.

Why would i order this when your stream lags constantly? I would LOVE to buy this if it wasnt for this problem, if you can't even stream properly @ 720p how can i expect the 1080p to be any better?
1) how do we pay? aka do i need a credit card or is there paypal or something? 2) will there be HD VODs for TSL+ ticketholders? 3) what is the actual timeframe of TSL4 taking place? (can't find this info anywhere, apologies if it is out) 4) what exactly is a 'major starcraft event in your area'? will the winner be able to choose the event in a certain geographical range or something? would kinda suck if they end up not being able to go to the event you guys are presenting them with.

thanks in advance.
If you win the raffle for the trip it will be to a nearby event, it doesn't have to be the next nearest event, and we will make it work for you.

I sadly have to agree. Would love to buy, but the stream does not work for me in lower resolutions even.
Sweet! At $10, that's pretty cool. And TSL lasts for quite a long time, too, right?
That 5% off the store is a nice bonus - I just hope there will be a North American restock in time... and maybe even an XS sized Team Liquid hoodie will be added as an option? (Apparently 200 is the minimum order for a size)

The event raffle isnt local to just your country. For example, if you live in Brazil, I believe that allows you to attend a NA event, ie MLG, IPL, etc.

Glad I'm not the only one experiencing this. Hope it's ironed out before TSL starts
Bought, I think. I mean I logged in to JTV/Twitch and bought it, they charged me $10, and I linked my account, but didn't really get any kind of confirmation or anything.
sounds like such good value, but iwas just watching the last KR qualifier and it was laggy on multiple qualities on a 60mb connection so im not sure 1080p will actually be usable ;p
will probably buy it any way to support esports and what not

We can't guarantee all items being in stock for this period. As you can see the hoodies are currently sold out, too. We'll try our best as usual. The poster can be claimed when TSL starts.
I want a poster, not going to lie. $10 isn't much anyways, will buy it by Friday. Supporting TL since I've won free stuff from you guys before and what not :D

1080p is actually as good as TWICE (720p+360p), and then some!

I don't know if anybody's trolling, but 1080p = 1920 pixels x 1080 pixels = 2,073,600 pixels (per frame).
720p is 1280x720 = 921,600 pixels (per frame).
So 1080p is actually more than twice the resolution of 720p (2.25x times more resolution, in fact). However, it's only 1.5x the pixels per inch (along either the horizontal or vertical axis), so the resolution (or detail?) increase along one axis is only 50% more. But to reiterate, 1.5x more pixels horizontally and 1.5x more pixels vertically means you end up with 2.25x more pixels in total per frame.
I don't even have 5$ on my bank account and I got no income, but if I had I would totally buy this, seems awesome so I urge everyone to go for it!!! Btw, that poster... *Rainbow puke all over TL.net so it goes into maintenance.*

The poster is prob the main reason I got the ticket :D its really good. I kinda wish I could have gotten that 5% for the tl hoodie I ordered but oh well, supporting ESPORTS!
I'm currently watching the final KR qualifier for TSL4 and the 720p+ stream is really laggy (mostly video, sometimes audio as well, despite 100Mbit connection and i7 3.8GHz, 6GB DDR, HD5870 machine, full bandwidth available). The 720p stream is a bit laggy as well, although a lot less. Will this be improved for TSL4 especially for viewers in Europe or how would we ever be able to watch 1080p(+)?
I always meant to ask this: What exactly is the difference between 1080p and 1080p+? Does the latter mean it is variable bitrate and can spike much higher in bandwidth necessary?
Would it not be sensible to extend the 5% store discount and free poster claim beyond the end of TSL4? I've been holding back on buying the hoodie because I'm waiting on the EU store to save on shipping fees. And ideally I'd want the free poster to ship with a store order then and not have to pay shipping twice.
Are people living in Germany potentially winning the raffle only eligible for a trip to DreamHack or possibly only IEM in Germany because MLG is not in Europe?
As a Random player/Race picker, I SO want the 3 spirit/steel/swarm shirt set, the discount is awesome! And higher quality! And a poster! Triple plus good!
Like alot of other people I want to know if the EU store will be up and running during the time of this offer? That will determine if I buy a ticket or not.

As much as I would love to bash you in the head for printing unnecessary details about your comp. specs in the context I recommend upgrading Memory to around 16GB as 6GB seems to be low compared to all other stuff. Not that will change anything with the stream.
best freemium package I've seen to date. I donated $10 to the TL documentary, don't see a reason not to do $10 for more free stuff + chance to win MORE free stuff!!
Well I don't know if the EU shop will open before the end of TSL 4 but anyways, I bought it nonetheless. Great way to support you guys. I hope you'll get as much as you provide us with.
I already payed the 10 bucks, and linked both account. But if i go to the site: http://www.teamliquid.net/tslplus/ , it tells me i havent done step 1. Upon following the link "Sign up for the TSL+ package at twitch.tv.", it says my status is Active and displays the following information.

You can't just add 360 and 720p. 720x+360 != 1080x, it equals 720x+360. Simple math, people.
you should have a general chat for those who did not pay, but the downside is that everyone can/will be randomly timed out by the people who paid for TSL+
I might do it just for the poster and TL. Damn. Any chance you could make a graphics pack with a poster for each race and perhaps throw in some desktop wallpapers perhaps?
I'm thinking about doing it just for the private chat alone. Seriously stream chat is usually the most dumbest play to be a part of. It's the equivalent of yahoo/youtube comments.
EVO 2012 was smart and made it premium subscribers only to chat.

Whenever there is stream lag, those trying to point to a cause quickly try to blame either the connection (not enough bandwidth for the data being streamed) or the hardware (CPU and/or GPU not powerful enough to render the incoming data quickly).
By stating the hardware specs and the type of connection, I made it clear that this is unfounded and the problem is on the other end, and I'm sure those in the know actually are thankful for this information. My specs aren't even ultra high-end these days anymore, but still decent enough for the task at hand. I'm very much interested in resolving these stream problems for everyone, especially with TSL4 coming up.
Either way, keep your juvenile aggressiveness to yourself. Much obliged.

Not bad. Will definitly consider to buy it when tsl is about to start. any word on the european store? is the 5% discount also for the soon to be open eu store?
Well, I created the twitch.tv account, linked it with my TL account. Now all I have too do is go here (http://www.twitch.tv/TeamLiquidNet), click on suscribe and fill the blanks ? And when TSL4 will begin you're gonna send us a PM so we can give you our adress ?
They said that difference is 360p and their statement is correct if you consider "p" a unit. You don't really have to calculate pixels.
It's the same with screen size which you usually measure by it's diagonal. So the difference in size between 20 inch screen and 22 inch screen is 2 inches - you don't have to calculate the area of each screen and substract square inches to compare two monitors (also you would have to check aspect ratio but for the sake of conversation we can assume that it is fixed).

I'm definitely buying two million more of something, not 360 more of something. It just seems like a better deal.

haha, this is great. I'm getting 2million more things for $10! WoW!
wow i am really disappointed in teamliquid i didn't expect this and i don't approve of this kind of capitolist mentality that is plauging the world. i believe starcraft should be free for everyone.
also i am hugely shocked by the "no public chat" rule.... wow.
The views in this post represent the views of the poster and not teamliquid.
how can i ask a question about the system while being in the system?
wow hi.
was the first post on this thread "staged" ? is that a legal question? I am just trying to add content to my post at this point. i hope i'm not offending anyone, but i have fairly radical views. i've always looked at teamliquid (literally so far) as being a very ideal representation of an ideal government, one of freedom justice and rights. however more and more teamliquid makes choices that I veiw as disturbing on a moral level ish. hahahah ok i'm overstating things but basically i love teamliquid
Gonna be the first time i pay for anything in esports.. well presented and well sold i'm especially looking forward to the poster and the sick stream quality, but i don't know about the seperated stream chats.. i think that part may be a bit silly

Super pumped for TSL4, TSL3 had all the people I wanted to win early lose early, but then I got to learn to enjoy the play of all these cool players. I'm going to be blunt, you sound like a sophomore undergraduate philosophy student who writes their papers under the influence. "[H]ow can i ask a question about the system while being in the system?" was pretty cringe-inducing while reading (on top of it being a completely unnecessary tangent).
How is this the first time Team Liquid has engaged in any sort of capitalistic endeavor? Sponsors and the store would indicate otherwise. How is the TSL4 not free? I don't plan on buying the package, but damn well plan to have my eyeballs glued to the free stream.
Was this thread staged? Is that a legal question? I don't even know what you're trying to convey. TL being about freedom and justice of rights? The amount of forum moderation makes me say otherwise (and I'm not saying I disagree with the heavy amount of forum moderation; TL forums are some of the best because of the heavy moderation).
The scare-quotes on deal at the end was good though. I got a good chuckle from it.
Oh, and if this was just a really weird troll that I just completely missed, kudos.

Starcraft is free... Your entire point is ruined by the fact that you either didn't take two seconds to even think about it, or are just too ignorant/want to stir people up..
In the very first point they state 720p will be free of charge... this is a choice if you want more... this isn't stopping you from watching for free or capitalistic. I am not supporting or bashing MLG for doing pay-per-view, but this is nothing like that... Your entire post hurts my head.
A free TSL4 poster, you only have to pay $10! jk, if I had a way to pay for this (you know, a Visa and all that) I would. For a moment I thought no more 720p free, glad I was mistaken (:!
On July 13 2012 11:10 FakeDeath wrote: What is the difference between 1080p and 1080p+?
I would assume it would be users who have giant expensive monitors capable of going beyond the 1080 and stream in their native resolution. The most common one I can think of would probably be 1900x1200.
I don't really care about no adds or the private chat and my Internet connection cannot handle more than 480p anyway but that poster looks absolutely great! Is is going to be available at some point with the TL store?

This sounds like an incredibly generous offer in my opinion.

$0 for a 720p starcraft tournament is a pretty sweet deal.
I was almost considering it, but then I read the article. The writing feels like it's sort of a joke to them, so I'll take it as that. Almost like the whole E-SPORTS thing they got going on (oddly enough.)
My wife, who otherwise has no interest in Starcraft, has been asking me for months when the next TSL will be. She really enjoyed the pace of it and the ritual of watching a few games once a week and watching me flip out. Honestly, TL has provided me with such a huge amount of joy over the last two years that I'd probably have given you $10 if the text of this article had just consisted of "Hi there. Can we have ten dollars, please?"
I did have to laugh at the "free poster", though. I'd really prefer that you guys knock off the unnecessary marketing hogwash. We're all adults here, just be up front and admit that you're giving away the 1080p stream and charging $10 for the poster.

I would love to buy it except my internet is way too slow to watch a stream. I guess I will hope TSL4 releases the replays within a week of the event being over.
What about VODs? I might subscribe anyway, depending on if I'm working when TSL is being broadcast, but are VODs going to be 1080p as well? If 1080p VODs are enabled by TSL+, count me the hell in. Otherwise, still maybe.
I bought it as soon as I saw this post. I want that jet now!
And I'm sure happy about that poster, it's going to be the 3rd poster after the ones for donating for Liquid Rising that I won't be able to hang anywhere in my room because of a lack of empty walls :| Time to move out I guess.

No public chat from twitchtv rule has been around since the first TSL, people use the TSL thread to talk about it. Your post doesn't make much sense, try cleaning it up.
Oh and to those arguing about their math, 50% of 720p is 360p, so if you add two, it comes out to 1080p, viola magic!
This sounds damn nice, prob gonna go for it. I'd just like to ask, could I receive my Liquid Rising poster and this one as one package? The reason why I'm asking is, I'd like to save up on the shipping costs a bit (I understand why they are so high, that's not the issue) since I live in Europe.
This is what all events should do, offer 720p to the audience for free to generate the biggest numbers, then offer a premium service with slight improvements for a minor price, this is a perfect example of how it should be done! 10$ aint shit, especially not for me who live in Sweden (10$ = 69SKR) and it gives so much more than just a good quality stream. Love the offer, I hope other events will try and mimic this. Obviously the GSL and NASL can't, but week/weekend events can!
That IS true, srs quality for free and VERY nice stuff for the ppl wishing to pay extra, I'm really amazed by how well TL is doing their job in the world of free and f2p content. I didn't feel inclined (is this an english word?) to pay for the mlg arena's but I will pay for the TSL4 premium pass. Why? I've been following TSL for quite some time and they never let me down in terms of quality of the streams. ESL.tv, as a counter example, consistently delivers mediocre free streams and (from what I heard, the free streams didn't motivate me to pay for the premium - apparently a good decision) even worse premiums (based on the comments of ppl in the chat and so on, I MIGHT be wrong), Point being, if you deliver srs, honest quality on free streams and add some neat, smooth bonuses for the premium buyers, ppl will go for it. I sure will.
i agree, this is a great business model. Providing a good free stream without taking away anything from non paying viewers and adding a little extra to those who purchased a ticket for a moderate fee. MLG Arena as a PPV model was a good example of what not to do.

I'll inquire about this
Yeah 1080 VODS are whats keeping me from buying because I may not be able to watch all the games... dam work...
If they are included, ill buy it as soon as you confirm!
I subscribed and even paid and got an invoice to my email stating that i have paid but it still says i need to "Sign up for the TSL+ package at twitch.tv." It has not been ticked yet.
I think this has been asked before but I couldn't find an answer in the thread so far.
Say I get TSL+ and want the free poster, do I have to pay the shipping from your US location or will you also be sending those out from you EU location later this(?) month.
quick question: what dimensions are the poster? is it like the mini little things that come with video games that are like, really kinda tiny? or is it like "BAM! TSL!" all up on the wall?
(obviously inch or cm measurements would be more helpful than a scale from "meek" to "BAM!")
Welcome to capitalism. Pay 10$ and get a free poster (among others).
Nah thanks. While I can see the reasoning behind it, there is no way I'm going to support this way of economical thinking.
And no, I don't want to hear about what TeamLiquid does and how my post is mean and silly, I know TL is great - I'm just too idealistic for this stuff.
Just a heads up for those who clicked the TSL+ link in the top bar before coming here: The link in the top bar doesn't include the info about the poster being available after TSL starts.
You guys at team liquid want us to pay 10$ for your service which isn't bad at all for the coverage you give, but we as fans wanted a live tournament, not just another online tournament which will have the same players we can watch on IPL/NASL/Playhem/GSL etc. playing cross servers. Everyone was so hyped for TSL4 (at least what I hear from my behalf) and everything went down the drain when I heard it was another (unexciting, watch in my spare time possibly) online tournament. I wish you guys the best of luck and I hope you rack in big numbers, but I doubt the work put in (qualifiers, articals SPECIFICALLY for just qualifiers?) will pay off. I mean I just don't see the logic in wasting your time on writing articles for qualifiers, maybe just maybe if it was for an offline event? I mean how many people are going to go back and say hey this guy did well in TSL qualifiers! eh I'm not too sure people will care especially when it's an online event. I may sound like a broken record, but I only want to give my 2 cents so maybe you guys can take into consideration some things for the next TSL event, if you even care to read this post.

Hi lowreezy08,
I don't know if you know this, but every TSL to date has been an online tournament. It is done this way for a variety of reasons which I won't go into because we've said it all before (and yes, it will be cast from replays!). I don't know if you follow the scene very much, but actually qualifying for the TSL has been the subject of much discussion outside of TL - in particular it came up numerous times during HSC V. So yes, people care. So far as comparing the TSL to IPL/NASL/Playhem and so on, TSL is unique in the sense that it is an extended league like the NASL, but every game is an elimination game meaning everything is on the line each week. The TSL delivers high quality games because of this fact, coupled with the week long preparation players have before their matches.
We're okay with you not wanting to part with $10, that's cool, we get it. Regular TSL streams are going to be of pretty good quality and VODs are free. TSL+ is a way for people to enhance their TSL experience and by no means is compulsory for a fine viewing experience. Hopefully, the coming season of TSL will convince you that TSL is not just 'another online tournament' and that it really is something special. And maybe, just maybe, you'll reconsider your position on TSL+ (and if not, that's fine!).
Thanks for your feedback, Plexa
P.S. Other people with questions, sorry I can't answer them at this point! I'll do what I can to get someone in that knows the fine details.
Small question : if I pay for TSL+, will I get 1080p VOD afterward? (Or will they be free anyway?) It's just that I'm not sure to be able to be present on time for the stream.
Also, one remark, your pricing is much more appropriate than MLG.
Sorry if this was replied earlier, but I have a small question.. If i purchase TSL+ and get the free poster, will I be able to get it after the Euro-shop is open? Will I be able to combine this offer with the free poster I got for Liquid Rising? I want to get both posters from euro-shop as one package to reduce shipping costs.

Same here, I'm waiting for the eurozone shop to order a mousemat, so if I take my TSL+ ticket, will it be able to put the poster with the mousemat ?
I would get TSL+, but Twitch has an absolutely horrible track record when it comes to providing lag-free streams at anything at or over 720p. Hopefully some other sponsor will step up in the future. The poster is nice though. Might get it anyway just to support TL.
In any case, I'm really looking forward to the games.
so before I order: 1080p VODS? What times in GMT/CET are games going to be streamed? I live in finland - if I win in raffle, could I go to event outside of finland (we have ASUS ROG's here)?
I was also wondering about VODs, I haven't been able to find any information about the availability of spoiler free VODs. Will there be any? I would gladly get TSL+ if it meant spoiler free VODs would be available (1080p or not is fine by me).
Just bought TSL+, not that I'll watch in 1080p, not that i care much about ads. Not that I need the 5% off at the store, not that I want to be the lucky one getting a trip to mlg even tho it would be absolutely sick. But just cause it's worth it. TSL 2 from what I saw was awesome, TSL 3 is probably the most epic tourny to date and the TSL 4 qualifiers alone were easily worth $10.
I'll try to answer a few questions, Finland is 6 hours difference from EDT is i recall if not it's 5 to 7-8 PM
For Vods there is a page on the website where round by round they will have all of them. Knowing TL, I'm pretty sure they will make sure to make it spoiler free
For commercials, from what I understand there wont be actual ads, just clips of TSL partners products during the broadcast
On July 26 2012 09:09 Ngokromo wrote: if TSL+ provides what it does for the stream, ie no commercials, 1080p, etc, then count me in. anyone know about this?
With TSL+, there are no Twitch.TV generated ads, however our sponsor ads (such as Razer and... well Twitch themselves) will still air. These will be fewer in number than twitch system ads and will be integrated as part of our overall production. And yes, it will be 1080p.
I just purchased TSL+, but I am a little confused about something. I never received the chance to enter a shipping address, although I have ordered things from the TL store before, so maybe it was saved and pulled, but I also never got to see the price on shipping for the poster. How can we confirm that it is 1) being sent to the right address and 2) the price of shipping?

You probably will get a PM when the TSL4 start (like the liquid rising posters). Then you will be able to order it from the TL store for free.

When will the posters be available? I'd like to pick up one of the TSL shirts before they sell out, but I want to wait for the poster so I don't pay 2x international shipping for 2 different packages.

I asked this several pages before, yes the store will be openend in time according to disciple:
I see the poster up in the store. I'm logged in to TL.Net and at the TL.Net screen that has the PayPal paynow button it shows my discount. But once I'm taken to the PayPal page it shows its going to charge me the full amount rather than just paying for the S & H. Please address this.
I am still charged for the poster when I try and get it, it only applies the 5 percent discount, I thought the poster was free and the shipping was all that had to be paid for?
If you add the poster to your cart and try to checkout, but don't finish the checkout, the system will think you have claimed the poster and you won't be able to get the discount a second time. A workaround will be added later this week.
Claimed my free poster this morning, and picked up a TSL4 t-shirt. Got charged sales tax twice, once in the TL store and once by PayPal, and then a $10 fee for shipping my item to the US. Not sure what that's about but I'm not going to complain too hard because I want to support TeamLiquid. I wonder if I'd have gotten charged that $10 fee if I just ordered the poster and not a shirt, if so that's kind of crazy.

There shouldn't be any sales tax at PayPal. Could you take a screenshot of where it says you're being charged sales tax?
EDIT: Some NY states apparently had sales tax enabled at PayPal, this has been resolved.
If you were unable to get the discount for the TSL4 poster, please try adding it to your cart again and checking out, the discount should show on the final stage of the checkout process.

As long as your accounts are linked properly at www.tslplus.com you are automatically entered. Winners are shown on stream and receive a PM on teamliquid.
So I cant buy this b/c when I follow the links it asks me to make a new twitch tv account and wont let me sign into my existing one. Not sure wtf is going on there but its kinda dumb.
edit: I had to sign into my twitch before I followed the links, then it worked like a charm.

More demand gives faster supply I hope. I also would like to know, with the finals getting close...
How do you know what account name you used for twitch? I got tsl+ awhile back and was able to use 1080, still says my accounts are linked, but when I try to switch now it asks me to log into twitch and I haven't the foggiest what user name or pw I used.
