Hello fellow TL'rs. I got home from work today and browsed around on the internet while eating, only to read a Facebook post saying that the LoL servers were down. At the same time, I noticed that "League of Legends" was "trending" on FB. So me being the eSports lover I am, clicked it and read through some of it. Apparently, a hacker group known as "DERP" has targeted the servers for MULTIPLE huge game titles and completely shut them down. Including but not limited to, LoL, battle.net, DOTA 2, and more. I looked around on TL and didn't find any posts from anyone about it. The following is a news article on it -

Very well known and popular streamer "PhantomL0rd" has also been... "targeted" by them. He has been in contact with them for awhile, and even had the cops called on him because of a "hostage" situation. More is in the article. The groups twitter is here -

It is unclear exactly what the limits of their capabilities are, but obviously they are very high. Developing...

this whole event sounds a bit retarded, they did all that to target one dude?

They involved him. Twitch didn't do jack shit about the whole situation while the streamer kept "testing" the attackers while he played different games. (140,000 watched),
IMO, not worth a topic. No need to bring them more attention.

As far as I know, no. Somewhere in the article, they said something along the lines of hating greedy companies or something. I believe its in one of the screenshots. Either way, this is very bad news.

If TL deems it to be, they let them delete it, but I don't see why. This pertains to gaming/esports and the general forums section. If you don't care, then don't post.

We've had plenty of hacking/dossing threads (LulzSec and whatnot) before and they usually haven't lasted long. But as you said, TL do what they deem best.
Oh, and they didn't "completely shut down Dota 2".

Not like there is any critical thinking in a DDOS.

ironically TL staff went on reddit and asked mod to stop helping the hackers to get exposure.... And then people posted this thread. Just ignore these assholes.

It's embarassing how immature this group is. Also yeah don't call them hackers, DDOSing is not on the same level at all.

Wasn't 140k actual viewers.
He only had about 30k true viewers, rest were botted, as DERP clearly stated in thier conversation.
|
I can't tell why people think they're cool for taking down some servers and making a fake 911 call. That's pretty much anti-cool in my book lol.

It seemed like someone hacked PL's twitch too though.

Now you're starting to understand.
