This is a short article I found on Boxer that tells his story of discovering Starcraft. Translation is not word for word, I focused more on context. ^^

“There’s one person I want to beat.”
The person responsible for introducing Boxer to Starcraft has been revealed. As odd as it sounds to have Boxer, the Emperor, wanting to beat someone so badly, Boxer has never won against this special friend.
Boxer, who is currently serving in the Air Force, told his story that was published on an article named ‘The Lim Yo-Hwan Intermission: The friend I could never beat.’ The article served as a tribute to his friend who has passed away.
The story begins in 1998, when Boxer was a senior in high school at the time. He had very poor grades due to spending most of his free time at the arcades or playing soccer.
When summer came, Boxer decided to meet his friend Kim Jin-Suk to learn mathematics. At least, that was his original intent.
Jin-Suk was playing a computer game at the time Boxer arrived. “Hold up, let me finish this game” said Jin-Suk. Boxer was immediately stunned by Starcraft’s graphics and the variety of units moving around. Boxer had thought that the arcades featured the finest games.
Boxer spent most of his summer at Jin-Suk’s house. Jin-Suk taught Boxer Protoss and Boxer played it until BroodWar was released.
Then came the PC Bang Era, at which point PC bangs started appearing all over the country. Boxer and Jin-Suk played each other a number of times but Boxer could not take a single game from him. By the time Boxer was no longer a newbie, news came that Jin-Suk had past away. The two friends would never get a chance to play.
Boxer considers meeting Jin-Suk a pivotal point of his life. It may explain Boxer’s widely known passion for the game.
R.I.P Boxer’s Master.
The reason I'm posting more often these days is because I'm bored out of my mind here at work. But if I play BW, I'll probably get smacked in the head. So I visit sites like TL which don't blow my cover so easily

Pretty interesting story. I wonder how old that master had to be that he passed away.

similar age i think... he refers to him as a "friend" not a "master" in previous references.

ZERO wins? Their skill difference must have been quite large indeed.

FUCKING BLIZZARD NUBS!
During the days when I was a Protoss user, my favorite unit was the reaver. It was an extremely slow unit, but no other unit could match its power. I enjoyed using guerilla strategies, placing reavers in the shuttle and destroying the opponent’s base. Because the reaver would be a high target by the opponent, I couldn’t look away for a moment. If I especially did not damage the opponent’s base sufficiently and lost both the reaver and the shuttle, the situation would reverse immediately, so I needed to pay attention carefully. The positioning of the reaver was also crucial, so it was important to understand the map and the location of the opponent’s base. For this reason, the reaver-shuttle strategy was one of the strategies that I used with great risk. There are many Protoss users today that still use this strategy, but it requires great amounts of practice and experience to handle the reaver exceptionally. I had proficient handling of the reaver at the time, and with it I enjoyed the heightened tension while using the swift mobility of the shuttle for guerrilla attacks.
But the day came when I had to change my race. It was the day when the 1.04 patch was made.
Starcraft is a game where patches are continuing to be made, to correct any bugs and balances among the three races. With the 1.04 patch, the reaver became unintelligent. At least this was what I thought in the past. There was still the overwhelming power of the reaver’s scarab that directed towards the opponent’s units, but the success percentage of the scarab fell dramatically. And because the reaver is such a slow unit, it is necessary to complement its weakness with the shuttle as its partner, and so an additional amount of resource is needed. It is also a unit that requires a lot of minerals and gas, so it is extremely valuable, enough that the success or failure of this strategy will decide the tempo of the first half of the game. If this reaver, that was placed in a certain position after great difficulty, failed to discharge the scarabs properly or if the scarab exploded in a random place, it was not easy to win. I was very disappointed, as I used the reaver strategy frequently.

That's so sad...
cool story thanks for the read.

I read it that link, I didn't know he died though. T_T

I chose Terran, which was treated as worthless by others, took the dropship, which was considered inferior because of its slow speed, and made it my weapon, developing it and practicing with it over and over again.
damn insperational!! Now i'm all fired up!

Where it says "Reavers and scarabs lose 100 IQ".
I don't think it was changed intentionally, hence, it won't be on the changelog.

The change that made a difference was that reavers no longer shot immediately after being dropped by a shuttle, but had to cooldown first, unlike all other units! I haven't noticed an AI change, but it was 8 years ago, so someone could install vanilla and try if the scarab is any smarter, but I doubt it
The change I mentioned heavily nerfed reavers, but they were too good back then. The reaver just popped out for some milliseconds to shoot and then cooldowned safely in the shuttle. This can still be done with tanks for example, but they deal 30-39 damage, not 100-125!
BTW is the translation at boxerbiography.blogspot.com in progress or has stopped, as all others I've found?

just as a curiosity about reaver cool down. if after using a reaver, i drop it somewhere else to allow it to cool down, and then redrop it in the enemy base, does the reaver get to shoot immediately again? i'm assuming that the reaver needs a cooldown time after shots, so letting it do a cooldown when it's safe is better than doing a cooldown when it should be shooting something.
