Congratulations on your championship victory. Tell us how you feel.
I am so glad because this is my first victory in almost two years. I am even happier because I’ve gotten closer to advancing to the global finals.
You didn’t have a happy expression after you won the championship. You were holding the trophy with an expressionless face.
I’m not sure if it was because it was my first championship in a while or what but I didn’t know what kind of expression to put on. I didn’t know whether to laugh or to cry. After looking at the pictures, I think that I probably should have just laughed (laughs).
How did you prepare for the match as you were waiting?
I didn’t have enough time to prepare so I didn’t prepare anything special. So I just mind controlled myself and did some image training.
You observed the match between Jaedong and First as you waited for your turn to come up. Were you expecting Jaedong to take it?
That’s right. I’ve seen Jaedong grab overwhelming victories against Protoss players before so I knew he would win by at least a score of 3-1.
How was it getting to play against Jaedong?
I didn’t know what Jaedong’s play style was. So I approached the match with a defensive mindset because I thought he would play aggressively, but then as it turned out, he played defensively. It felt like Jaedong decided to play it safely since he knew that I was bad at TvZ. But I think that his decision actually ended up playing in my favor.
You faced a TvZ finals whilst having a rather weak TvZ record.
Even though I do really well in TvZ during practice, for some strange reason I tend to never do as well as I do for practices when I perform for tournaments so I was really worried about that. However, I think I’m going to be able to establish some good results from here on out because of today’s results. I think I’m going to be able to feel confident for my TvZs .
You showed an army composition consisting of bio units, siege tanks, and widow mines.
I think mech has become rather terrible since HotS came out. I decided to use a bionic army composition since it’s difficult to use mech.
We normally see you start off TvZ games with a hellion or reaper harass, but it seemed like there was hardly any of that for today’s games.
I have slow hands so I tend to get the worse end of the deal if I go for harassment plays. So I tried not to harass.
Then how did you prepare against strategies based on harassing you?
I made sure that I learned everything there was to know from my games with Scarlett. So I went for siege tanks when I thought Jaedong was going for an all-in attack and made sure I macroed behind that so that I wouldn't have any issues.
Did you expect a 4-0 score?
I had no idea that I would win by a score of 4-0. Even if I did win, I was expecting a score of at least a 4-2 or 4-3. Also, even though the score was 3-0 in my favor, the map for game four was not in my favor so I wasn’t feeling any less nervous.
Even though Terran players do not really use siege tanks in HotS, you do the opposite and actually use them a lot.
I get this feeling that Zerg players find it rather cumbersome whenever I mix in siege tanks in my army composition so I use them. But I still have yet to fully figure out that play style.
After accomplishing your personal best of making it to the semi-finals of the OSL, you also then went on to grab the championship for the WCS Season Finals. How do you feel about securing this kind of achievement at a rather non-young age?
I was in a slump for so long that this championship victory was so desirable. I was so disappointed that I got eliminated from the quarter-finals two seasons ago and because I got eliminated from the semi-finals last season. But I am just so relieved that I was able to do well for the Season Finals.
Any specific match or difficult match that you remember for this season?
I think I felt the most relieved when I took down Scarlett for the quarter-finals. And that match was difficult. I felt confident that I could win for every other match.
With today’s championship victory, you grabbed the third spot in the WCS rankings.
Honestly, I thought that I would never be able to grab the #1 spot even by the end of the year. However, I think I’m going to be able to approach the rest of my games peacefully.
What do you think will happen for next season?
I think I’m going to make it to the quarter-finals no matter what. I think it’s going to feel really great if I can advance to the Season Finals by advancing into the semi-finals.
Do you like your group for next season?
I think that group is neither bad nor good. I think it’s so-so.
Anything else you would like to say?
I want to thank my fans who cheered me on even when I was doing poorly and I want to thank my parents who gave me tons of support from all the way back home.
