For an Android phone, you can get the game by side-loading it, which means downloading it from a website that’s not Google Play.
To begin with, go to your Security settings and click the “allow installation of apps from unknown sources” button.
From there, you can then download the app from another site like APKMirror.Link
Use a desktop app like Android File Transfer (on OS X) and then upload the APK Pokemon file to your Android phone to install it. Or install directly to the mobile phone by googling apk pokemon go on your internet browser.
It’s a good idea to change your settings back to not allowing downloads from unknown sources after doing this as it can make your phone more susceptible to catching viruses.

On an iPhone, you must first log out of your current Apple ID. You can do this by going into your settings, iTunes & App store and tap ‘Apple ID’. You can then sign out.
From there, tap ‘Create New Apple ID’. As you sign in, remember to choose the United States as your region. For payment options, you can select ‘none’.
It may take a couple of minutes for your App Store to update to the US version but once there it is easy to download Pokemon GO. Just head into the app store, search Pokemon Go and download. Once download log into your original Apple ID and continue as normal
Some high level and interesting ways to "farm" or level faster has been explained in two good blog posts for those wanting to get the most out of the game quickly.

How The Game Works?
The game works on the basis of you getting off your ass, going outside and walking around. From there with the app open your phone will vibrate or make a noise if you have sound on when a wild pokemon is near you. From there you look at your phone, click the wild pokemon which can be anything from a Bulbasaur to a Dragonite. You go into a cut scene which brings you to being 1 on 1 with the pokemon, if you have AR on you will see it in a pokemon esc wildlife background if you have that off you will see it in the real world. You then have to catch it with the poke balls you have, you do this by straight up clicking and then flicking the ball towards the pokemon. Advance users will try and do curved ball throwing which gives you an increased chance to catch said pokemon. Then after you have thrown the ball and it has landed on the pokemon, the standard agonizing wait to see if the pokemon is captured begins. 3 clicks you want for the capture!
I Caught Pokemon, Now What?
So after catching pokemon you gain experience to level up which increases rewards and basically the CP of the pokemon you come across in the wild. With the pokemon you catch you can evolve them or transfer them to the pokemon professor for another "candy" of that pokemon. To evolve the pokemon you need "x" amount of pokemon candies specific to that pokemon, aka 25 Pidgey Candies to evolve him to Pidgeotto, then 50 to evolve him to Pidgeot. The specific number of candies to evolve each pokemon is different, our friend Magikarp needs a whopping 500 to evolve into big bad Gyrados! When you evolve a pokemon it also increases its CP as it gets stronger too, sometimes a huge jump is seen, sometimes not. Also you can power up the pokemon, increasing its CP via Stardust which you get from capturing pokemon too, and the odd candy Doing this is important later on if you want your favorite pokemon to be your best!
Ok, So I Evolved Pokemon, Now What?
From here, you have an army of pokemon and probably on your way past level 5, which is what you need to challenge gyms. Gym's don't work the way they do in Pokemon you are used to but are similar. First of all click a gym on the map, you don't have to be near it as long as you're above level 5, from here you will be given the choice to choose between 3 teams to join; Red Valor, Blue Mystic and Instinct Yellow, the mascots for these line up with the original kanto legendaries, Moltres Red, Articuno Blue and Zapdos Yellow. So after choosing one of these teams, getting yourself near a gym which is contested by another team (Either Red/Blue/Yellow logo above the gym on the map) you can battle to take it over. To do this you have to defeat the pokemon in charge of said gym. You can see its CP before you battle it/go inside. So i suggest that if it is a far superior CP to any pokemon you have i would stay clear of that one
Onto the battle!
The essence of Pokemon battles is to make the opponent faint, by attacking it until its health reaches zero.
Whereas in previous Pokemon games the combat has been turn-based, in Pokemon Go it's more of a free-for-all - with the ability to dodge attacks by swiping on the screen at the right moment a notable new feature.
To attack, you can tap the screen to unleash a normal move, or hold down your thumb or finger to build power for a special attack. Battles are one-on-one only and you can only heal damage after the fighting is over. If you win, your team will take the gym and your logo/colour will be above the location, if you lose your pokemon faints and you are kicked out! If you win before you leave the gym you might want to leave a Pokemon behind at your team's gym to aid in its defence. Don't worry, that's not a purely charitable act - you'll be rewarded for your Pokemon's endurance with items and 'PokeCoins' that will help you get stronger.
Ok, I Beat A Gym...
So you have caught pokemon, evolved pokemon and battled pokemon, now it is time to go through the last few bits and pieces of the game.
FIrst of all Poke Stops, you will have noticed on the map along with the Gyms, blue circles all over the place, these are called Poke Stops in which you get items from then when you are close enough to interact with them. To do this, you click the Poke Stop then spin the circle and Poke Balls / Potions / Eggs and what not drop and replenish your stock in your bag. Pokemon Eggs? What!? Yes Pokemon Eggs work the same way they work in Pokemon games we are used to playing, you walk around and they hatch after so many steps....however it is alot of steps in this game. 2km - 5km range on pokemon eggs in this game so you will need to get your ass moving to hatch those pokemon in which you can get anything from a Pidgey to a Pikachu from one.
So now you know about Pokemon Go and what it offers, time to get off your computer and go outside and become a Pokemon Master and capture all 150 glorious Pokemon
Wait, you want more?!
Rehio linked an even better guide than mine, didn't think i could be beaten but i clearly have been, take a look if you still want to know more or don't understand a few things.
