With the rumors of Remastered I started casting again in November 2016 and now I'd like to steal a glimmer of limelight after a decade of obscurity. What better way to start to have a thread on TL.
I also run the '~NoHunters Free-for-all' Discord channel initiative - providing a safe space for new players and perpetual newbies to play their first few games and then peer pressuring them into 8 player Free-For-Alls in an attempt to ruin friendships. (Numbering almost 800 strong!)
All replays are sent to me on a voluntary basis, either by posting it in our discord channel or by e-mailing me at grethsc on gmail. Do mention the word 'replay' or 'vidrep' so it gets auto tagged to be ignored for several months until I feel like casting your replay, or discarding it altogether.
Making fun of new players like this seems... Unhelpful at best.
Although it might not seem obvious at first, I am attempting to be humorous. I've always leaned towards the satirical side? - Perhaps more the parody side of casting. People who send me their replays will probably never get casted, and most enjoy the roasting - and even find my low level knowledge of the game helpful.
It might sound weird, but it's important to make light of the situation. I think, historically, I've been the only one to show the way BW is played by 99% of the player population. It's important to show what kind of game the 'real people' are playing. A lot of the C and beyond players are far too serious about this game, there is no relief from the constant drive for competition that only very few people will have. It's important to find those players and help them satisfy their need to get better, but for all the other players it's first important to learn to be at ease with being bad at having fun with the game. Being serious and competitive about BW full-time will eventually destroy you. The levity of the casual side is important, especially when going towards Remastered.
Criticism is always welcome, as I always like a good 'discussion' (excuse to rant).
Can't argue with anything said in the post. As someone who played mostly casual games for a long time in the mid-oughts, including FFAs, Race Wars, Blizzard maps, etc. and "competitively" since then, I have to say that both were incredibly fun and both are without a doubt Brood War and both deserve a place in the public sphere. Greth does a great job of bringing a little love and exposure to this casual undercurrent.
Wishing you the best of luck! I hope you use this thread to update whenever you release a VidRep A brief summary when you upload it would be welcome so that it's not just a video link and nothing else. Key points to look for, overall summary of the game, like a movie preview? "One Zerg fights off the horde of enemy races for 30 minutes and is forced to relinquish its position on the map and hide in the corner. As the other factions fight to fill the vacuum, our Zerg friend tries to recover in a distant corner of this massive world. Will he make it out alive?"
Here we are, let's fucking go! This is the only place to find a quality caster on demand that is LITERALLY taking requests to cast YOUR GAME, the best way to get his attention is by making your replay appear as interesting as possible with an elaborately respectful PM that would catch anyone's attention. If you need tips on how to write up an email or a tactical IM, then I suggest reading or listening to an audiobook called How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnage. There is at least one chapter in that book that deals with how to address your letter so that it has the interests of the reader in mind. That interest is what is going to guarantee you your replay actually getting casted. If it's a good game then don't shit it up by leaving it named as "LastReplay.rep" change that shit up to actually mean something to the replay watcher, and save us the all the agony and pain of such a boring title. Be creative and you'll be rewarded by being on the big screen!
Muahahahahaha, I would know, I've been put out there recently.
Please remember that even though he does bash the people in the replay sometimes for humorous effect, the things, every single person who sends something to him is already aware of what they're in for.
Thanks for the support dudes, - And yeah ofc Psy gets the first reply. All is well with the universe.
Yes Jealous I will bump the thread every chance I get, and perhaps there will be descriptions, but I guess they'll be the usual iterations 'no, THIS is the worst game I've ever seen ... No, nonono, wait, THIS ONE is even worse!' etc... etc....
And yeah Rad, I guess it isn't betraying SC2GG anymore when posting here :p
Hahaha you got me chuckling on the bus when you talked about Protoss devolving to the primal slug form of the defensive cannon whore... spot-on diagnosis when you said all Protoss have it in them.
I think Nina left partially due to frustration but also due to the fact that after Corsair often come DT and that base had no detection. But yea mostly the ling piss stream not being able to melt the Protoss base.
Clearly an old game for both players - oldie but a goodie!

And now it's your turn!
Join us to find out what happens when a T gets bullied into going all-in and gets a little too cocky in the chat.
