most notable ones are atrox and kingdom under fire funnily enough, imo the best game to emulate the 'feel' of the original starcraft was definitely armies of exigo made by a hungarian developer and published by EA.

What am I missing? | ||

And the brazilian RTS - Outlive, which is even closer to bw in terms of graphics, i have played this game and its good actually some of the interfaces improves over starcraft, and there are interesting ideas in game design. There is small Brazilian comunity playing it on Gameranger server. Im interested if there is actually another clones of sc, share if you know.

For an indie project, it was alright, it had a whole lot of really fresh ideas for an RTS. http://ethermoon.com/main This is the closest thing to a gameplay video I could find :

I actually felt like the "feel" Armies of Exigo captured the best was WC3. I'm not super familiar with WC3 or Exigo, does someone who played those a bit more wanna share their opinion?

I contemplated to try out myself in AoE2 competetively, but that day never came. The game itself requires a lot of skill, ingame knowledge, some multitasking with good macro/micro, but to learn the game`s resource management to a degree, where you can achieve something doesn`t seems worthwile to bother with (for me), I mean it`s not impossible but this aspect is probably the hardest thing for a bw player I guess, the other parts are quite managable. You have to know certainities, like how many villagers you need on food to run x stable, how many villagers on wood to have constant production from 3 docks, etc., and these numbers are fairly optimized, but there is a lot... The civilizations (~20) are far-reaching, but they`re pretty much map dependent, and there are some simple and severeal more complex strategies too. Apart from the resource management the game seems easier then bw, but still it`s quite fun, I watched countless vods. Funny thing is they didn`t had a proper attack move command (until recently, if I know correctly - now they have one) they used patrol command as attack move.
